TONY'S 10 METRE BAND REPORT - 26 April, 2012

17:11 Fernando Luiz de Souza 0 Comments

During the week the DX was there but signals were not strong and many operators gave up.
There were plenty of opportunities to work IARU stations and even ET3AA (Ethiopia) was about.
I did shout loud and long but to no avail. I think he may well be the last/only operator there. No doubt someone will correct me if I’m wrong.
Scotland, Saturday, Ian, MM0IMC, got his first
(I think) CW contact on 10. He says,
“Worked BA7IO 5/9/9 I'm new to CW and still learning, this QSO was done with the DM780 program. I'm trying to learn on the key too.”

More power to your fist then, it’s a mode I never really got on well with.
Also Saturday but this time Northern Ireland, Melvyn, MI0MSR worked RV6HU 5/9, RN4ABD 5/9, UA4NR 5/9, EK5KE 5/9 and UA4NX 5/9 all on PSK31. Its about time some one sent in a short note on how to do PSK31 on 10m and is it worth while?
Bob, N2MDA, sent me a very pleasant note in. He says,
“Tony: I think you're doing a spectacular job in keeping us informed on what’s going on out there on the 10 meter band. Here in North America conditions have been poor on 10 meters. So poor, in fact, I've moved to the 17 meter band to make my contacts
(No, no keep the faith). These are very uncommon propagation conditions. I've heard of one way skip, and now it looks like we have selective region skip as well. I do enjoy your articles each week. GOOD JOB! BOB N2MDA”.
Thanks Bob. Some weeks I feel no one reads this column then up pops a report like yours.

Sun: 5 sunspot clusters but none are particularly active although Earth is passing through the wake of a CME, and this is causing geomagnetic storms at high latitudes. Last night, auroras were spotted in more than a dozen US states including Michigan, Nebraska, Kansas, Wisconsin, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, Illinois, and Colorado.
Apart from the moon Venus is the brightest thing in the sky at the moment (at night obviously!). Here in the UK, we have an official drought and hosepipe ban but pouring rain and over cast skies. And it’s cold! What’s all this global warming stuff then?
Stoke duly lost away to Newcastle 3 – 0, it was a poor effort by us. So we’re safe from dropping down a division but it’s not good for the fans. Arsenal at the Brit this Saturday. I be there but unless we play mucho bettero we’ll get stuffed.
