BELARUS REP 279 Noticed that BR1 on LW 279 kHz again does not work at
night. The beginning of a shift in 0300 UT, and the end is not noticed,
but after 2100 UT could no longer be heard. When it happened, and what is
the situation at all frequencies - has not changed?
(Alexander Egorov-UKR, open_dxa; RUSdx May 6)

The 1170 kHz time has been corrected: BR1 is carried on 1170 kHz between
0400-0700 and on 6080 kHz between 1430v-2100 UT.

NHK Spanish also audible on 6250 kHz, leapfrog over RNW Bonaire Dutch 6165

mentioned that sometime in the last 4 to 6 weeks. Walt

GERMANY MDR Leipzig Wiederau 783 kHz knocked off by lightning.

Perhaps MDR Info on 783 kHz is at present missed not only by local
listeners, and I already see the usual rumours and conspiracy theories
popping up.

The dry fact is that last night at 2042 UT the transmitter was struck by
lightning, damaging more components than spare parts were in stock. Thus
it was not possible to repair the transmitter today, and nobody dared to
speculate if perhaps a way will be found to bring 783 back on air
tomorrow.

Enclosed a weather radar caption from yesterday 2045 UT, suitable as a
reference for the location of Wiederau (near Pegau, south-/southwest of
Leipzig). This was two hours after I preferred to wait half a hour at the
railway station over walking through the thunderstorm...

Right now I have on 783 a jumble with SAH, apparently consisting of
Barcelona, Syria and Saudi-Arabia.

(Herbert Meixner-AUT, A-DX May 4)

Sehr geehrter Herr Meixner,
vielen Dank fuer das Lob. Wir draengen den Senderbetreiber um
schnellstmoegliche Reparatur.

783 MDS Leipzig Wiederau again on air since May 5 at 1200 UT.

Jahrzehnt ins Land gegangen.

"unverzueglich" gegangen).
(Kai Ludwig-D, A-DX May 4)

Sehr geehrter Herr Meixner,
MDR INFO ist seit heute 1418 Uhr {MESZ, May 5th} wieder ueber 783 kHz zu
empfangen.

GREECE ERA 981 Megara back on the air I was listening to a web stream of
ERA Sport from Greece today, and several announcements were made during
the broadcast, that ERT board of directors have decided to return the 981
kHz transmitter at Megara back on the air starting today, April 27, 2012.

The decision was made because of many complaints by listeners who could
not receive the station in remote areas on the FM frequencies after the
981 kHz was turned off in a cost saving move in March 2012:
(Christos Rigas-IL-USA, April 27, mwmasts yg via dxld)

Right now (April 29, 1656 UT) ERA Sports from Greece can be heard here in

Again starting yesterday Apr 30 with same signal // 102 FM with ID at 2100

981 ERA Sport has been noticed yesterday on evening possibly with lower
power (just S=4) and being in // , 792 kHz Malgara.

LAOS 6130 Lao National Radio, Vientiane. In dxld Feb 15 I commented on
the fact that LNR had "dropped their interesting 1415 to 1430 UT segments.
In past years I could hear English / Laotian language lessons on Mon. Tue.
and sometimes Fri. and Sat.; with French on Wed. and Thurs.", which had
been heard after their 15 minutes of news in Laotian starting at 1400 UT.

May 5 from 1411 to 1422 UT tentatively thought I was hearing English, but
the adjacent QRM was just too strong to be positive.

May 7 from 1416 to 1430 UT, QRM not too bad and definitely heard the news
in English; no English after 1430 UT; similar news format as heard years
ago via their external service on 7145 kHz, which has long been silent.

I suspect they now are broadcasting the external service news from 1400 to
1430 UT here on 6130 kHz, but this needs to be confirmed. Broadcast daily?
Reception depends entirely on how much adjacent QRM there is at any given
moment!

[later] May 8, English segment 1401 to 1430 UT; heard a few bits and
pieces of the intro ID; sounded very much like their canned external
service ID: "This is the Lao National Radio, broadcasting from Vientiane,
the [Lao?] Democratic Republic. Our English language is broadcast twice
daily at 1300 hours and 2030 hours local time, which is 7 hours ahead of
UT. It is transmitted on a frequency of 97.25 MHz. Still need to confirm
if the ID on 6130 kHz is in fact identical to this or not; news items;
fairly heavy adjacent QRM. Needs improved conditions to get better
details!

Re: Laos - LNR in English on 6130 kHz. again on May 8.
LNR official confirms that their English language programme is broadcasted
from 1400-1430 UT every day on 6130 kHz. Actually, they broadcast five
langagues for 30 minutes each: Thai, English, French, Vietnamese And
Khmer, starting from 1330 to 1600 UT.

Re: Kachin BC Station, Myanmar.

Hallo Juergen,
anschreiben
>Psychological Warfare at the Ministry of Defence !!!<
>Psychologische Kriegsfuehrung des Verteidigungsministeriums !!!<

im WRTH p. 638

Myawady Radio
Pyay Rd.
Mingalardon Tsp.
Yangon, Myanmar

- MRTV
- Myawaddy TV & Radio sce

ausgegraben :

Thazin/Rakhine/Kachin Radio bzw.

>Psychological Warfare at the Ministry of Defence !!!<

Psycho-Sender weiter.

NIGERIA GOODLUCK MERGING Voice of Nigeria (International) AND
Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (Domestic).

Daily Trust (Abuja), 25 Apr 2012, Gabriel Omonhinmin: "I have no option
but to join in the on-going debate, whether or not, it is proper for VON
[Voice of Nigeria] to be re-merged with FRCN [Federal Radio Corporation o
Nigeria], twenty-two years after it was excised from the then National
Broadcasting Corporation (NBC). ...

For the benefit of the general public, it is appropriate to clarify the
mandate of both stations. The FRCN main focus is to feed its Nigerian
audience with local news development whereas Voice of Nigeria's mandate is
to broadcast the country's view points to the rest of the world. ... I am
... not saying that [VON's] function could no longer be carried out by VON
if the organisation is eventually re- merged with FRCN. But one thing is
certain; the station will never again be as effective in its primary
assignment as it is now. Knowing the make-up of FRCN and VON, high level
of intrigues, manipulation and fight for supremacy will be the other [sic]
of the day. This will never in any way help neither stations nor the
country."

Information Nigeria, 3 Apr 2012: "Almost a year after he introduced the
transformation agenda, which implementation so far remains but
unimpressive, there are strong indications that the Goodluck Jonathan
administration is now set to do the right thing. ... The core elements of
the new initiative as revealed to The Guardian are the overhaul of the
country's tertiary education system, scrapping or merging of agencies
performing same or overlapping functions, and a significant cut down in
budgetary allocation to current expenditure in favour of capital spending.
... [A government committee proposed] the Nigerian Television Authority
(NTA), the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) and the Voice of
Nigeria (VON) may come under the umbrella of Nigerian Broadcasting
Corporation (NBC) with a Director-General as it is with the British
Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) and South African Broadcasting Corporation
(SABC)."
(kimandrewelliott.com via dxld May 2)

The BBC, the Australia Broadcasting Corporation, and CNN demonstrate that
there are synergies to be enjoyed when domestic and international
broadcasting are conducted by the same organization.

Shortwave listeners in the US, even as far west as the Pacific coast, are
hearing and decoding VON's new DRM digital shortwave transmissions.
According to other listeners, some days the DRM transmissions are not on
the air at all.

PAKISTAN Radio Pakistan Transmitter API 9, 100 kW. With reference to
dxld issue no 12-17 dated April 25, I have to verify that Radio Pakistan
is using API-9, 100 kW transmitter for Azad Kashmir Radio Trarkhel (also
known as Rawalpindi III). I monitored the broadcast from 1340 to 1350 UT
on May 1, 2012 at 3975 kHz.

The transmission of clandestine Radio Voice of Jammu Kashmir Freedom
movement was also noted at 3995 kHz during the same time, i.e. 1340-1350
UT. The transmission for Voice of Jammu Kashmir freedom Movement was being
carried out via a noisy transmitter, presumably API-3, while API 9 signal
at 3975 kHz was strong and clear. Noel Green assumption that API-9 is
being used for Voice of Jammu Kashmir Freedom movement is not correct.

TANZANIA 11735 What you probably would have heard is "Sauti ya Tanzania
Zanzibar" (which means "Voice of Tanzania Zanzibar"). The English ID is
now Zanzibar Broadcasting Corporation but I'm not sure how that name is
announced in Swahili.
(Dave Kenny-UK, dxld May 2)

Announced it by the program of Swahili on 11735 kHz that I received with
"ZBC Radio" (Sei-ichi Hasegawa-JPN, dxld May 2)

11735 Zanzibar BC, Tanzania, songs & talks, in Swahili, good.
(Giampiero Bernardini-ITA, dxld May 2)

Listening to African music and occasional Swahili announcements from
Zanzibar on 11735 kHz as I am finishing off this column 1648 UT May 1, S=9
fading up to S=9+15db on the S metre, clear channel and good audio. No
interference from other stations.
(Mike Barraclough-UK, May WDXC Contact magazine direct and via dxld)

I think I saw years ago somewhere explanation for Radio Tanzania Zanzibar
using 11735 kHz. It was beamed to Persian Gulf for the Zanzibarians
working there.
(Jari Savolainen-FIN, dxld May 2)

That may be, but FWIW, Aoki shows it as non-direxional, not beamed. Could
be merely a default assumption lacking real data as in other entries. Not
in HFCC, of course, and EiBi does not get into azimuths, nor does WRTH,
unfortunately, but saves a lot of space / number type.

The newer curtain Made in China is NEVER non-dir type ! ...
Finnished new equipment on July 11, 2005 !

Two latest designed curtains from China - first reports of July 11 in 2005
year - for the 50 kW units 6015 and 11735 kHz. Looks like two rows stocked
dipols.

At 06 06 01.54 S 39 15 32.52 E two curtains at 010/190 degrees towards
Yemen, Saudi Arabia and UAE/Kuwait. 25 mb ant left, 49 mb antenna right
side.

At 06 06 05.98 S 39 15 20.26 E see on G.E. image of 25 Febr 2008 only:
older era easy dipols on lower height masts visible, but in east-westerly
direction towards Ea/CeAF instead, left of the TX house. These were used
til June 2005 on ODD frequencies ...

HISTORY:
TANZANIA [Zanzibar] Zanzibar surprising (ex-11734v).
Long-standing problem of Voice of Tanzania from Zanzibar always standing
off-channel (11734v) is seemingly over now.

Today I was extremely astonished to find them on 11735.00 kHz started
after 1630 UT. All titles are as usually in Swahili. I had to caught ID
because till the last moment I was thinking about something like IRIB in
Swahili or anything else.

I guess this July 11, 2005, is quite certainly HISTORIC date in African DX
scene.

[later]
For me 6015 is permanently closed (except early morning grey-line condx):
in the evenings there is always KRE's jN (noise jammer) very strong (as
'dx').

Yes, I also had first thought about Chinese techicians when finally IDed
Zanzibar 11735.0 kHz. From another side: for many DXers this dx
possibility will be lost due to co-channels easy blocking of TZA signal.
(Vlad Titarev-UKR, DXplorer July 11, 2005)

Hi Vlad, some German guys heard an UNID greyline station on 6015 kHz on
early evening in past days. I believe the Chinese technician has done a
EXCELLENT job on 6015/11735 TZA site.
Close-down at 21.01:15 UT with National Anthem?
(wb, wwdxc BC-DX TopNews July 11, 2005)

Voice of Tanzania-Zanzibar on 11735 kHz. Heard here in Birmingham from
around 1745 UT tune-in, 11 July 2005. Nx in English at 1800-1808 (didn't
quite catch an ID in English), otherwise in presumed Swahili (ID's as
"Sauti ya Tanzania, Zanzibar"), including news at 1900 and 2000 UT. Nice
selection of mx too. Still good at 2015 UT ... presume will sign-off at
2100 UT?
