BRAZIL +Brasilena en 6075.725 kHz?
UNIDENTIFIED 6075.725 kHz UNID tent LA: The mysterious station on this
frequency was back tonight, observed from 2258z until the recording
stopped at 2336z [June 15]. The audio is very weak, just above noise
level. Strongest on Flag Antenna in direction 300 degrees and a little
weaker in direction 210 degrees. This station was noted at several
occasions last year in Aug-Sept and was never identified. Back then also
very weak at all occasions. You can listen to a few recordings here:

<http://www.thomasn.sverige.net/logbook.htm>

Please keep an eye on this mystery station.
(Thomas Nilsson, Engelholm-SWE, dxld June 16)

String on 6075.725 kHz exact visible at 2310 UT June 16. Yes, Portuguese,
heard around 0130-0140 UT June 17. 73 wb df5sx Stuttgart Germany
(wb, dxld June 16)

Thomas, 6075 clip could be R Cultura São Paulo, but that fade at the wrong
instant makes it uncertain. Remember that R. Cultura SP used to be on 6170
kHz. Perhaps they are trying to make a comeback. If you ever get it well
enough, try // the RCSP webstream (AM different from FM). Have you asked
the Brazilians to listen on 6075? If not, I can.
(Glenn to Thomas, via dxld)

Mauricio Molano Sánchez extracted the enclosed file from my recordings
last year with a R Cultura ID. MMS thinks they say São Paulo and Henrik
Klemetz thinks it might be Uberlândia.

If it is a spur from another in the 49 mb the only one is R Cultura
Filadélfia on 6105. I enclose also a recording of Cultura Filadélfia.
Glenn, What is your opinion of the ID for the 6075.7 station when you have
listened to the extracted recording?
(Thomas Nilsson, Engelholm-SWE, dxld June 18)

Hello all, Checked this PP-station again tonight, June 18, from 2230-2350
UT. Weak in the static with mostly music and only a short speech at 2325
UT.

This station is definitely not in // with 6080 kHz Marumby. Also checked
that the following webstreams do no match: R Cultura Filadelfia, Radio
Cultura Sao Paulo AM, R Cultura Foz, R. Capital.

So obviously no spur from 6080 kHz as suggested.

It is a mystery that so few hear this station. More info at
<http://www.thomasn.sverige.net/logbook.htm>
where you can listen to the extracted R Cultura+??? ID.
Mauricio Molano Sanchez, thanks for help with extracting this part.
(Thomas Nilsson-SWE, dxld June 18)

6170 used to carry the R. Cultura FM service, not the AM, so you should
also check that stream. As in LA SW Logs:

6170v B WS R Cultura, Sao Paulo SP [0740-1458/2151-0202] Jun09 B PP
(r)FM103.3 // 9615, 17815

However, the three were not all //. WRTH 2010 still listed them all, but
not specifying which were with AM programming and which with FM. IIRC,
9615{Dec 2008} had AM; 6170{May 2009} and 17815{Jan 2009} had FM.

FINLAND/NORWAY/FRANCE/GERMANY/NETHERLANDS What about the Pori-Preiviiki
shortwave equipment? Years ago transmissions for both IBB and Media
Broadcast did not materialize, in the latter case at such short notice
that only Nauen could be thrown in and hardly substitute due to skipping
(41 metres on winter evenings). But finally there were some test
transmissions for Ralph Gordon Stair, so at least shortwave transmissions
from Preiviiki did not finally cease with the closure of Radio Finland.
And the mediumwave transmitter is, as well known, still active for China.

NRK posted a video from Kvitsoy, too, perhaps not referred to so far:
<http://www.nrk.no/video/forste_radiomast_pa_kvitsoy_sprengt/3D432D45916ADE2/5>

And here is a picture of Sveio before the second transmitter has been
added:
<http://home.wolfsburg.de/elbe/norwegen.html>

So indeed initally just two curtains there, one 250 and one 330 deg.,
mounted on three towers. Must have been one of the least versatile
shortwave facilities in the world until further curtains (if I see it
right on the satellite images) and, first of all, the LP had been added.

The only similar case I'm aware was the Greenbush site in the forests
north of Bangor/Maine, also with just one transmitter and two curtains, in
this case a high/low pair. It's hardly a surprise that WHR finally decided
to do without it, not having at Furman to deal with restrictions like the
ones at Kvitsoy. Must have been almost a nightmare to find a suitable
location for the transmission facilities in Norway.

Re: Fredrikstad. These two Thomson transmitters came from Hoerby (Sweden)
when they were replaced with new ABB/Thales. Also the Thomson-transmitters
became prohibited to use in Sweden due to PCB in the isolation.
(Chris Stoedberg-SWE SM6VPU, June 11, ibid.)

Re: Kvitsoy SW RIP.
What about the Pori-Preiviiki shortwave equipment?

<http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%89metteur_d%27Issoudun>

claims, without quoting a source, that the three 500 kW transmitters have
in 2009/10 been moved to Issoudun. If so, they must have replaced some of
the 1973/74 vintage gear at the Centre E complex, a replacement of the
newer transmitters of the ALLISS units can certainly be ruled out.

This Wikipedia page further claims that TDF decided to concentrate its
shortwave business at the Nauen, Montsinery and Issoudun sites, which
would imply that Wertachtal is slated for closure.
(Kai Ludwig-D SW TXsite June 12, via dxld)

Hello Kai, It is not true that the Wertachtal site is slated for closure.
As a matter of fact, when I was there a month ago, I was told that
Wertachtal will become the heart of the TDF-Media Broadcast network.

At the moment they are installing a complete new network and applications
that will enable them to control the Nauen, Issoudun, Montsinery and
Wertachtal sites from the control room in Wertachtal.

They are even hiring new personnel, but because knowledge of shortwave
sites and engineers with that knowledge are hard to find, that is a
problem. A few months ago they hired a new engineer from Hungary.

At the moment only 3 transmitters are still controlled by the old
computersystem and software. Among these 3 is the old AEG transmitter
SV2500 which were the first transmitters in 1972 to be used. These
transmitters will be ruled out in the near future, I expect. The rest are
already controlled by a complete new system that they built themselves
using software modules that are obtainable from the Software market. If
you like, I can supply you with photos of the new system. Regards

GERMANY   CRI wants to use 603 kHz for Berlin. {only local stn strength}

China Radio International wants to use 603 kHz at the Zehlendorf (east of
Oranienburg) transmitter site, the frequency used there by Voice of Russia
until they replaced it by 693 kHz and last in 2010 by Oldiestar (now Radio
B2) until they replaced it by FM. Allocation procedures have today been
launched and will automatically result in a licence for an EU-based
subsidiary of CRI if there will be no other applications, which is to be
expected.

GERMANY New 6070 outlet.
Dear friends of Radio 6150,
maybe you already read it on the net; we have a new frequency.

From now on we can no longer be heard on 6150, but on 6070 kHz, and we can
use it 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The new QRG is completely free in Germany, and from July 1st, when Radio
Vatican ceased using 6075 kHz, free from disturbances from adjacent
channels.

We will start testing very soon; it could be a good idea to have a look at
<www.radio6150.de>
regularly!

Regards from sunny Bavaria

6070 is covered by adjacent 6065 channel in winter season, and 6075 kHz
will be used by big broadcaster as from July 1st too. wb.

INDIA Old habits die hard at Kolkata A.

Kolkata A noted on Febr 19 at 0215 UT on 657 kHz announcing end of
transmission on 4820 kHz. Says shortwave transmission will resume from
0230 UT on 7210 kHz.

In actual fact Kolkata A is not carried on 4820 kHz or any other shortwave
frequencies at all and neither does 7210 kHz sign on at 0230 UT. 4820 kHz
was noted carrying Kolkata B during this time without break. For the past
month 4820 kHz carry Kolkata B from 0025-0400 UT.

I wonder if it was a communication error between studio and transmitter or
an old habit dying hard at Kolkata A studios.

ITALY 9999.995 kHz time signal fake ?
Heard yesterday June 16th, around from 1400 UT onwards. Could also be a
joke fake pirate operation, read comment by Fabrizio, 5 Hertz lower on
9999.995 kHz.

Re 9999.995 kHz time signal anncmt in Italiano

Hi Wolfgang,
yes, I'm receiving it through the Perseus network, thanks to a tip by a DX
friend ;-)

The time signal is the one used the Italian national network RAI and it
corresponds to real CEST. Location announcement with the highest
probability is just a fake, as the phoney Italcable ID.

A well organized pirate possibly mocking the 5 MHz operation?

"Location Juliett November sei centa tre Delta Victor"

The recorded ID says "Italcable, stazione radio Italcable, trasmissione
sperimentale del segnale orario, frequenza 10 megahertz. Il segnale viene
inviato in modalita SRG. Per maggiori informazioni
<www.italcable.it>
Locator JN53DV". ("Italcable radio station, experimental transmission of
the time signal, frequency 10 MHz. The signal is sent in SRG mode. For
further information <www.italcable.it> ".

The JN53dv locator corresponds to region Tuscany, somewhere near
Viareggio, not far from the Tyrrhenian coast.

Grazie per l'interessamento alla stazione radio attivata dalla
associazione Italcable, ottimo articolo, 3 piccoli appunti,

Cordiali Saluti
Italcable

Thanks for your interest in radio station Italcable activated by
association, good Article 3 small notes:

1) it is not a pirate station (I know 'that are more' attractive but this
does not and '),

2) no "vacatio legis" indeed, the Italian legislation and international
and 'quite accurate and does not leave room for improvisation,

3) regarding the takeover of boredom, Well we say that having now begun
and there being committed at least 10 years with the 'consent to pass
issued by the Ministry, we have no intention of giving up it would be.

Best Regards

Marco Volpe amici - Italcable,
please add 5 Hertz in frequency to quit standard frequency stations 10 MHz
e v e n too. (wb.)

A new Italian - pirate - time stn on 10 MHz.
A new experimental Italian time station is on 10000 kHz in USB. There are
time announcements every minute by a male voice in Italian and at H+00,
H+15, H+30, H+45 there is a longer announcement by a female voice in
Italian.
ID: "Italy Cable". Web: <www.italcable.it>

Each minute is filled with instrumental music, there are different
compositions every minute. Sometimes even a national anthem of Italy.

U.K./ASCENSION ISL Dear Mr. Martin Goulding,
on which date the "British Antarctic Survey Special" occur ?
June 20 or June 21 ?

BBC - British Antarctic Survey annual mid-winter greetings broadcast to
BAS staff in Antarctica on Midwinter's Day in Antarctica. Many family
greetings from GB are read and all embedded in a music request program.

Is there also a Woofferton frequency outlet on that occasion ?

kind regards de
Wolfgang Bueschel
Stuttgart Germany.
(June 18)

I can confirm the following for Friday
[no, not correct, is really on Thursday June 21]:

Skelton
2130-2145 GMT 5950 on 195 degrees
2130-2145 GMT 9850 on 195 degrees

Ascension Isl
2130-2145 GMT 7360 on 207 degrees
(Martin Goulding, Transmitter Engineer, Babcock International Group PLC

Still nothing about this in HFCC-all for June 18.
However, 5950 already has something on it:
5950 2000-2200 37,46 ISS 250kW 185deg French F KBS TDF
Is that really active? (Glenn Hauser, dxld)

5950 KBS French from Issoudun S=9+25dB signal ends at 20.59:54 UT.
Empty channel from 21-22 UT. {was 5980ISS in winter B-11}

USA/PALAU Fiji Democracy & Freedom Movement, Mondays only.

11565 I meant to check this one this Monday 18th morning, 0830-0900 UT,
but didn't remember until 0855 UT, by which time there was only a weak
signal on the channel, ausio unusable. It did close at 0900 UT, however,
as FDFM has done in previous weeks. I surely would have heard this if it
were on from Cypress Creek. Maybe they weren't on? Closed early? Or maybe
they have moved this to Palau? Anyone else check this one this morning?
(Jerry Berg-USA, DXplorer June 18)

Checked 11565 channel this Monday 18th morning. WHRI? program was on air,
when checked about 0820-0825 UT. But very weak signal noted in CA (also
five Perseus net rx in CA / Vancouver Isl). Tambien very weak signal in
Tokyo Japan. So I guess instead of Cypress Creek was coming probably from
Palau today.

It is a pity, no remote unit in Australia on net accessible at present at
this time - since collapse of ADSL connect in Pavia de Udine Italy.

USSR Radio Moscow era - YFR Simferopol QSL 2012.

QSLs eingetroffen.
In nur zwei Tagen traf eine Menge DX Post bei mir ein. So z.B.:
8 QSL-Karten mit verschiedenen Relais von YFR Programmen via
(Simferopol, Jerewan, Taschkent, Abu Dhabi, Nauen)
(Michael Lindner-D, A-DX June 19)

Congrats for the bountiful harvest.

Tse ...

even 21 years after the end of the USSR, pulls the concealment tactics of
the communist system
(personally of late Anatoly Titov - Frequency Manager - rest his soul)

Even today with the big guns QSL hobby.

Simferopol from the Crimea, where it has never been on shortwave band.

The price of such veiled Mykolaiev-Luch in Ukraine is 260 kilometers away,
far beyond the north-west Crimea.

We had discussed these days about it.

Radio Moscow QSL - Vinnitsa TX site

Hi Wolfy,
Vinnitsa > Lviv or Kyiv
could also be Grigoriopol Moldova ?

sure Grigoriopol (Moldova/Pridnestrovye enclave) could be
(and maybe most likely it was, IMHO)

small MW and SW site in URSS era,
veiled as Starobelsk:

there are/were NO HF facilities, village of Pidgorivka
(? AFAIR... I was there ~30+ years ago,
just small 2 MW xmtrs (both less than 10 kW) and few FM (UKW).
It's just another R. Moscow's era fake site.

UKR Petrivka Radio Maiak 765 kHz 100 kW 2 masts (veiled Starobelsk)
46 59 24.00 N 30 53 33.26 E

yes, Petrivka was listed as HF but actually never was.

Yevpatoriya > Mykolayiv
one more fake, widely seen in QSLs. Yes, most likely it was
substituting Mykolayiv HF (village of Lutch)

Ivano-Frankovsk ?? > Lviv Mukachevo Lypivka or Grigoriopol-MDA

any RM's fake high power HF site (1950-1990s) actually could be only
one of these five:
Kyiv(Brovary), Lviv(Krasne), Mykolayiv(Lutch), Kharkiv(Taranivka) -
all UKR plus Grigoriopol/MDA.
(Vlad Titarev-UKR, SW TXsite June 17)

Ivano-Frankovsk ?? > Lviv Mukachevo Lypivka or Grigoriopol-MDA
Kalach ?? > St.P.
Kenga ?? > Novosibirsk
Kinghishepp > St.P.
Konevo ?? > Novosibirsk
Kursk ?? > Balashika ??
Lazarev > Komsomolsk Amur ??
Nishni Novgorod ??
Omsk > Tolkyn_RC#7, near Qaraturuk-Kazakhstan
Orenburg ?? > Ashgabat-Turkmenistan
Orsha > Moghilev-Ukraine
Swerdlowsk ?? > Yekaterinburg ??
Tver/Kalinin > Taldom
Ulan Ude ?? > Selenginsk??
Ulyanovsk > Kazan
Vinnitsa > Grigoriopol-Moldova
Volgograd ?? > Armavir-Krasnodar
Voronesh > Taranivka/Kharkiv or Kuybyshev/Samara
Zhigulevsk-Jigulevsk > Kuybyshev/Samara

ps. I saw also 3 x 25 MHz channels at that USSR era 30 years ago:
25570 Lvov, 25715 Vladivostok, 25780 Armavir ...

Calendar of SW Specials, Farewells June 19 update

CALENDAR OF SW SPECIALS, FAREWELLS.
Dates, days and times are strictly UT

MONDAY JUNE 18 +
This is the final week for Radio Canada International, probably also for
CBC NQ 9625, and relays via Sackville. You may want to make an effort to
listen more than usual before the Last Days scheduled below.

THURSDAY JUNE 21
2130-2145 British Antarctic Survey special, 9850 & 5950 Skelton UK, 7360
Ascension; or may be 2130-2200, and possibly on WED JUNE 20 instead.

UPDATE: Wolfgang Bueschel asked Martin Goulding of BaBcoCk Woofferton
which date is correct, and he replied June 22 Friday! We can only suggest
trying June 20, 21 and if still not heard, 22. BTW, HFCC shows that KBS in
French via France is on 5950 at 20-22, but EiBi and Aoki say only 20-21.

FRIDAY JUNE 22
2100-2100 SATURDAY JUNE 23 "MidsummerRadio", special from Scandinavian
Weekend Radio, Finland, low power on 25 and 49mb; hard to hear beyond
Europe
<http://www.swradio.net/index2.htm>

UPDATE: Alan Pennington refers to this page
<http://www.swradio.net/schedule.htm>
which says the 25m frequencies will not be used for this (since they are
in white), but shows which hours for 6170 and 5980 kHz.

<http://www.hfcc.org/data/schedbybrc.php?seas=A12&broadc=RCI>

June 24 also appears to be the final day on air for Sackville relays of
other stations. It is unclear whether all of these will be gone once the
UT day June 25 starts, but assuming they are, listen UT June 24:

NHK World Radio Japan: English 0500-0530 on 6110, 1200-1230 on 6120;
Japanese 0200-0500 5960; 1300-1500 11655 kHz.

effort to listen before the Last Show special scheduled below.

FRIDAY JUNE 29
0200-0400 PCJ Radio Special farewell to RNW, on WRMI 9955 kHz.
For more details visit <http://www.pcjmedia.com>

A bit cheeky to schedule this at the same time as RN's own Last Show!
0159-0257 RNW's Last Show special to EaNoAM, 6165-Bonaire [not 11640].
0259-0357 RNW's Last Show special to CeNoAM, 6165-Bonaire.
0459-0557 RNW's Last Show special to WeNoAM, 6165-Bonaire; NZL/SoEaAUS
12015-Bonaire.

In case there are any further changes from the 'final' schedule:
<http://www.rnw.nl/english/article/were-changing>

Will Tom Meyer appear on this one? He does in Spanish:
1000-1057, RNW farewell broadcast in Indonesian: 17840 & 21485 Madagascar,
15300 & 15565 Sri Lanka; maybe also at 1100, 2100 [or June 28].

1330-1430 RNW Spanish farewell program with live video stream, including
interview with Tom Meyer; repeated on SW the following evening on usual
frequencies; see SAT.

1400-1457 RNW's Last Show special to Asia, 9800-Sri Lanka.
1800-1957 RNW's Last Show special to Africa, 17605-Vatican [audible in
NoAM]

1859-2057 RNW's Last Show Special to EUR 6065.

1900-2057 RNW's Last Show Special to AF 7425-Madagascar.

1900-2057 RNW's Last Show Special to AF 11615-France.

1900-2057 RNW's Last Show Special to AF 15495-Vatican [maybe audible in
NoAM]. 2057 UT is really The End, for English

SATURDAY JUNE 30
0000-0057 & 0100-0157, RNW Spanish Farewell program [that's what they say,
unlike English which will end the previous night.

Also check UT Friday June 29 in case that is correct date for Spanish
too], 6165-Bonaire. See
<http://www.rnw.nl/espanol/radioshow/cartasrn-en-v%C3%ADsperas-del-
%C3%BAltimo-programa>

VATICAN RADIO is also canceling most of its SW and MW broadcasts to
Europe, and SW to Americas as of July 1. Presumably many of them will last
be aired on June 30, altho the Sackville relays may have ended a week
earlier. See

<http://www.hfcc.org/data/schedbybrc.php?seas=A12&broadc=VAT>

Many of the SMG transmissions to elsewhere are audible in NoAM; also via
Madagascar; and especially BONAIRE:

0030-0200 15470 in Portuguese, Spanish;
0230-0250 6040, 9610 in French.
Since these are after 0000 UT, will their last day be UT June 30 or July
1?

UPDATE: VR will continue to the Americas via Bonaire according to its
website, including 0030 Portuguese 15470 (says Jorge Freitas) and 0230
French 9610 (says Jean-Michel Aubier). After 0250, 9610 has been switching
to Sackville for English, Spanish to 0400 UT.
