TONY'S 10 METRE BAND REPORT - 04/10/2012

October 4, 2012

A most spectacular week the like of which we haven't heard for a while.
To conserve space ten (10) or more contacts were needed to get in to the list during the week rising to fifteen (15) at the weekend. The average per day was over 4000 contacts. Lets hope it continues.
Most popular were 3D2C (Conway Reef) and FO4BM (French Polynesia) with W3LPL on the spotting.
Wall to wall DX everywhere.

VK5MRD got a few in this week, though he still bemoans the lost opportunities.
“I missed the 10m opening yesterday but I was able to catch part of an opening today with 15 QSOs including a new one for me of 4L4WW.”
JR3LSV, JF1WXN, JH1BXR, JR1UBR, BD5BMC, BG6DUF, RZ6LY, UR3CTB, DW1UBZ, XU7AAJ, YC1DML, JR7IAD, 4L4WW and 9W2WWW .
From Andy, M0HLT, a warm comment indeed and it's good to know this column is appreciated.
“Hi Tony, first of all I would like to thank you for the time you put into this every week and have for many years! I forgot my list I have been making since Friday (10am tea break) as working away again this week, But Friday was fantastic. At tea break sat in the van with the 706 mk1 and a sirio 4000 mobile whip, it was / seemed? like I was listening to 20m's , the band was jammed pack, hearing much DX, EAST /WEST prop again, Friday evening (when I got to the home QTH) was wall with N/American stations, I worked my first Californian on 10, 5/5 received, lots and lots I wrote down , but no list with me! (that's 4.30am drives on a Monday) but I guess you get the picture, and hopefully there are many others (around the World) will say the same. But all dropped off in the last 24hrs although heard Brazil on way back to the digs this evening (Tuesday) Cheers. Worked KE6M (California) and a couple of W0's and a WP4. Heard BD7CB.”
Thanks for that Andy.

Shankar is having a great time at the moment. He worked VU3TMO, VU3NXI, EA3AKP, 9W2MZY, 9M2IDJ, S51ZZ, VU2AGJ, YO4RIU, F4GLK, US9IDD, GU3UOQ, VU3LMS, VK3ZDX, JX9JKA, YB4IR, 9M2MSO, VU2DSI, F1HQM, BD9ALM, T6RH, UR5ZEV, 5B/SQ2MGM, RW3OZ, UR5ELE, RZ6CQ, FR/DL1YAF, UU0JM, VU2SMN, VU2XO, VR2XMT and HA3IN. “Once again a very satisfying weekend! (I think now Iam fully addicted to 10m- other bands are seem not very interesting”Ah yes, once you've got the 10m bug that's it. Of course it does help when conditions are good, but then every one sort of becomes DX.

Mark G4SKO also had a good time but he does highlight a down side of the good conditions.
“This week my trusty 2 element quad brought me. JA3JOT 55/57, JA3CZY 59/59, BY1WXD 59/59, JA8VZY 59/59, EX2F 59/59, JH1AJT a staggering 59+ both ways,JA3EGE 59/59, VR2CB 55/55, UA0ADX 59/59, WV4X 59/59, OX3KX 59/59 poor Jesper was subjected to worst of radio manners and bad form, stations calling out of turn and deliberate QRMing, he stood it for a while, then simply went QRT and who can blame him. NY3C 59/59, KB3WD 59/59, FG4NN 59/59.
A pretty good week all in all but conditions have tailed off as I type this Wed evening.”

I wonder what sort of amateurs do that. There are ways to get round it but one way is QRT.

Arie, 9W2VVH, is, as usual, working a goodly bunch of stations. Monday, PY2BL, BH4RXP, WB6PSY, WB7AC, BI7PER, JA3RDD/M, JG1RRH, PY2COI, JA1XXI, JR1TUC, JA1MZS & JP7EVD/M.
“Good opening on 10m & beaming my yagi 30 deg north. mngd to workd 12 stns from PY, BY, JA & K.” Wednesday, EA5EE, DL3MDJ, EA5IAE, IW5EID, 9W6RT, EA3HJ, I4KYO, YB1UUN, 9W6DVY, 9M6CMS, 9W6RAL & 9M6DIN. “Good opening to North Borneo with good signal rpt.”

Sun: Sunspot 1583 is in a near-constant state of eruption. Magnetic instabilities in the sunspot's magnetic canopy are hurling massive "puffs" of magnetized plasma into space. The Solar and Heliospheric Observatory caught some of them emerging during the early hours of Oct. 2 nd.
Well, Stoke duly beat Swansea with Crouch scoring both goals. He has to be picked for England. Liverpool away this Saturday, a tough one, - for them.
