TONY'S 10 METRE BAND REPORT - 25/10/2012

October 25, 2012
An absolute monster week with the number of reported contacts rising each day.
T30PY (Kiribati) was good from Wednesday to Sunday when he as topped by 3B9SP (Rodriguez Is)
There was loads of DX, even some UK stations in there. Not me though, tough to get into my own lists. If this rate of activity continues through next weekend, then the CQ WW DX SSB contest will be a monster.
Dave, VK5MRD , is back in “one mode” on Thursday.
“Just one station worked today on the VK5RSC 10m repeater whilst I was mobile between jobs. ZL2UJI on 29620.0 MHz at 0343 UTC. He was very clear into the repeater. Once home from work I had a quick listen but apart from a "Woodpecker" on 28490.0 MHz there were just a couple of very weak JA's”.

Saturday, “Only had around 40 mins but it was broken but yielded some great contacts
Stations heard were:- 5B4CY/b, SV5TEN/b, VK8VF/b, OM5MO, JE1FQV, OM3EY, F5OWT, DK1QH, SP6OUJ, DL1EZ, G0REK, US1US, DK7LX, DF1MM, LY2OU, ZL4CZ and BD4QQ.
Stations worked were:- ZL2UJI, LX1SG, HB9ELE, RU3JC, DD0ZN, YO4RIU and ER4DX.”
Sunday, “Here is my list for today, roughly 30 mins worth. Stations heard:- DL0CS, JL1MUT, DK0EE, DL0WH, UR7EN, DQ2X, VK8VF/b, 5B4CY/b and SV5TEN/b. Stations worked:- IZ4BOX, DR4U, M3CPY, DF2LH, DJ4MM, DR1A, DR1D, M0URX and EI3JZ. Great to work into the UK again on 10m.”
Tuesday, “I had some time in the morning then some time later in the evening. I couldn’t get on till late but I was watching the cluster on my mobile phone and for around three hours before I could get on the band was pretty much wide open from VK to EU but I am glad the band held out. Stations heard were:- LU6IZT, JA7BZU, ZL1KN, TX4FO, VE7VQ, NT4H, N8RY, VR2XMT, 9W2EJT, JA7CZU, BA7JA, PCG, GU3UOQ, DM7DX, PD3 and VK3JEF and VK2IR both on scatter. Stations worked were:- T30PY, JA3CZY,RW0CE, K5OO, W5OU, 9W2CEW, RV9UCN, UR3HC, LZ2TW, IT9OPJ, RV9JN, IZ6CLZ, ES5QD, EI3JS, MW0ZZK, SP7HKK, GW4BLE, DL1DAW, ER4DX and at 1203 UTC or just after 1030pm local KG6DX in Guam.”
Well done Dave, not much time on the band but still a hat full of contacts.
Wednesday, “I had about an hour tonight but it was very broken with family duties but quite a wide variety of DXCC. Stations heard were:- VR2UNG, M0IAA, A41, A71, BU2AV, EA5WP, IT9VPT, A41KJ, IZ0PAD and VK2NSS and VK4CZ on scatter. Beacons heard were VK8VF/b, 5B4CY/b and SV5TEN/b. Stations worked were:- 9W2HWR, OD5ZZ, DK3EF, RT4RO, A62A, VU2RAK, 4S7AVR, IT9GSF and G3MXH.”
Paul, VK5PAS, sent this in.
“Worked IT9GSF 5/9, IZ5WTV 5/9, HZ1HN 5/9, TK4LS 5/5, A41KJ 5/9, OD5ZZ 5/9, YO5TP 5/8, HE5LC 5/7, UN8LWZ 5/7, G1PQJ 5/3, US4IOG 5/5, PD1BM 5/7, 5B/SQ2MGM 5/7, PD0AG 5/4, UY4IF 5/8, DG1BP 5/5, DM3HZN 5/8, ER4DX 5/9 and XX9THX 5/9. Heard: A62A 5/7. “Band in quite good condition. Lots of FM interference”
Tim, M0URX , is almost overwhelmed.
“Wow what a morning on 10m! Although I have a day off work today I was up early and switched on the computer to check on emails and check band conditions, all very quiet but I noticed that a warning of an X1.8 flare had been issued at 0322z this morning. So I made a cup of tea and back into the shack to wait for the bands to open.

10m opened at 0700z with a QSO to Paul VK5PAS in Adelaide Australia, closely followed by a spot on the cluster for VR2XMT Charlie in Hong Kong, always a good operator to work and with a very strong 59 signal. I decided to call CQ on 28.528 MHz and soon had many European and Asiatic Russians calling me, "what was that a ZL? The ZL again please?" "Zulu Lima Two Bravo Charlie Golf calling you" Just brilliant, my first ZL on 10m, I love that buzz you get from working DX, conditions just excellent.
Then many Japanese stations calling in. After about an hour it seemed to go quiet so i tuned around, I found Glenn G8NOF further down the band working a VK2, I joined them for a few minutes as Glenn wanted to go QRT so he said take the frequency so again I called CQ DX beaming towards VK, and VU3KPL from Bangalore India called in another CQ and a reply I struggled to work out where to beam all I was getting was L7 or NL, i tried again, and got the call "NL7V beaming long bath" rotator turned to about 150 degrees and there he was NL7V in Alaska some 20,720 miles on long path. we also tried the short path which was slightly stronger, Glenn called back in to work the NL7 I noticed a huge echo with G8NOF it sounded like our signal was going around the globe, great to hear and something I don't hear very often on 10m.
Phewww, I need a cup of tea!”
Oh yes!, 10m is in good nick at the moment.
And a strange report from Arie, 9W2VVH. While Ten was moving for the rest of the world, Arie managed only a few on Sunday and two on Tuesday.
“Wkd 1 JOTA stn from Namibia - V55JAM 55/55. Others stns are W6KH 56/59, JA2QBS 55/58, JA1JLP 56/58, JH1APK 59/59, JH3JEZ 54/59 & new DXCC QSO to T30PY 59/59.

23 Oct 2012 - Wkd only 2 stns - JA2DYI 56/57 & PU2LEP 53/56 via LP QSO.”

Sun: 4 sunspot clusters with two of them whoppers and 1598 posing a threat for X-class solar flares.
Well we (Stoke City) lost to Man U away but did score 2 goals. A couple of defensive errors really let them in. We gave them a game though and were the better side at many points in the game. Sunderland at the Britannia Stadium this Saturday, another hard match.
