BOSNIA/BULGARIA/UKRAINE   [to KURDISTAN]  11510  Oct 18 at 0548 UT,
presumed Kurdish, fair with flutter (while Turkey, overlapping Kurdistan
had a good signal on 11980 kHz). 11510 kHz from Denge Kurdistanya, as Ivo
Ivanov spells it, and who has uncovered what has really been going on with
this service: ex-Denge Mezopotamya, broker TDP, now called BRB, which had
been via Luch, UKRAINE site on 11530, but that site suddenly closed down
at the end of August, leaving D.M. and several other clients in the
lu[r]ch.

He says there were no broadcasts Sept 1-5 on 11530 kHz, but Sept 5-13
under renamed D.K. they tested the Sofia, BULGARIA site on 11510 kHz at
03-19 UT, as he could tell from their powerful local signal. On Sept 12,
D.K. was on two frequencies at once, 11510 kHz at 03-19 UT from Sofia, and
back on 11530 at 03-15 UT, which was from Bijeljina, Bosnia-Herzegovina!
I.e. International Radio Serbia's site which until then had never relayed
anything else. Those are the lengthy off-hours when the 250 kW transmitter
is unneeded for own broadcasts. That has a weak signal in Sofia, due to
distance and/or skipping over. As of October 16, Ivo says that since Sept
14 the D.K. operation has been:

03-15 UT on 11510 kHz via Bijeljina, then 15-19 UT also 11510 kHz but via
Sofia.

Therefore I wanted to see if I could catch the handover at 1500 UT, Oct
18: First checked 11510 kHz at 1401 UT to find presumed Kurdish music and
announcement, poor signal. At 1457 UT retune, only a weak carrier; with
BFO I listened for a break or change in the signal, but heard none. Of
course, it might already have happened a few minutes before 1500 UT. At
1500 UTit did come in slightly stronger, with a timesignal about 15
seconds late, continued with talk, very poor signal.

BOSNIA/BULGARIA/exUKRAINE   [to KURDISTAN]  11510, Oct 12 at 1402 UT,
Denge Kurdistan, Kurdish music, poor with flutter, presumably via UKRAINE.
Meanwhile, VOA Kurdish had just opened exactly 4 MHz higher via
Wertachtal.
(Glenn Hauser-OK-USA, dxld Oct 17)

People kept reporting this as UKRAINE, but I was never convinced. Now we
know: (gh, dxld)

DENGE KURDISTAN VIA BIJELJINA, NO SW FROM UKRAINE ANYMORE.
(Re: DX Mix News)

I meant to put the real hot news into the headline. To summarize it:

Shortwave transmissions from Luch [UKRAINE] ceased Aug 31, eliminating yet
another SW BC transmitter country, at least for the time being. This
disrupted Denge Mezopotamya Denge Kurdistan until it had been restored
from Kostinbrod in the evening of Sep 5 while Miraya FM was off even until
Sep 16, a situation that indicates a sudden closure with no or little
warning in advance.

And the even bigger, because indeed unexpected news is that Denge
Kurdistan 11510 is during daytime now transmitted by the Radio Serbia site
at Jabanusa near Bijeljina, which thus as far as I know is leased out to
an external customer for the very first time. It so happened that I
checked 11510 kHz this late morning, and I found it booming in, with a
modulation that would indeed fit Bijeljina (and did not fit Luch at all).

The webpage that used to feature the Jabanusa transmitter fell victim of
Yahoo's action to eliminate the Geocities heritage, but here are at least
three photos from outside:

auch nicht mit dem gewoehnlichen Kuechenradio innerhalb des Hauses. Um
0740 UT ist der Sender Selestat noch on-air. Und eine ID in Franzoesisch
hoere ich auch: "Radio Alsace...". 73 wb, Oct 20.

Has Radio France silently started to switch off their MW-transmitters?
This question was asked by Atlantic 2000 in their latest transmission last
Sunday. As mentioned here a month ago, the transmitters in Pau 1404,
Grenoble 1404 and Besancon on 1494 kHz were closed without any kind of
official notice from France Info, the former user of these transmitters.

In addition, France Bleu Alsace has decided to discontinue their
transmissions in the Alsatian language (a German dialect
"Elsässerditsch"), which have been aired over Strasbourg Selestat tx site
on 1268{sic, 1278} kHz. The listeners are now instead referred to
obtaining satellite receivers for the reception of the programmes and the
informant has his doubts that they will do so. Then the question is
whether the highpowered Strasbourg transmitter is going to be closed down
or is just switching to another service?

GERMANY   Dear friends of free shortwave radio, we have some bad news. Our
output amp was again returned to the manufacturer, and is adjusted to the
control transmitter, which has arrived meanwhile. Up to now, we have no
appointed date when the transmitter and amp will be returned. Our plans
remain the same, but the launch date of the new station cannot be kept.
Also, we will not define a new launch date before transmitter and amp have
passed some tests with maximum power. Sorry, but postponed is not
cancelled. Presently we are air with the old control transmitter 75 watts.

GREECE/ALGERIA   890.992 kHz ?  It looks like Algeria is jumping between
two offsets: this and 890.947v kHz.
kHz.
(Mauno Ritola-FIN, mwoffsets Oct 15)

Mauno/Wolfgang, Oct. 16, 04 UT 890.991v (deviating with approx 1 min
period and 1 Hz amplitude). From the recent past ~ daily observations
ALG is using 2 xmtrs 891 (judging by tracks) interchanging each other
every next day, so appearing alternatively both
890.947 (straight track)
890.991v ("sine")

Ironically nearly the same happens with THA's xmtr 891 these days.
Alternative 891.002 & 890.992. At *2131-1702*. Can't say for sure if they
also use different xmtrs.
(Vlad Titarev-UKR, mwoffsets Oct 15)

At 1835 UT Oct 15 890.947 kHz, noted Arabic - Algeria.

Andaman & Nicobar Islands (AIR Port Blair) doing well 4760 about 1328 UT
went off the air at 1334* UT back by 1455 UT, but off again at 1456* UT.
Transmitter problems or problems with supply of power? Too bad,  as their

I am never hearing any audio. Oct 18.

AIR Aizawl 5050 kHz so strong now as to cause serious QRM for BBR/China;

with strong whine in audio and weak adjacent channel splatter.

We discussed that already past days here in German ng.

Nigeria is using 2 xmtrs 7255 kHz (judging by tracks) interchanging, so
appearing alternatively both 7255.000 and 7254.992 kHz.

Terrible mess 7255 kHz at 19-20 UT slot. Noted at 1940 UT CRI Turkish
and R Belarus EVEN frequency 7255.000 kHz, but terrible 80 Hertz
heterodyne signal, seemingly caused from Voice of Nigeria Ikorodu
on ODD 7254.920 kHz.

15120.000 Abuja vs. Ikorodu. Now at 0750 UT Oct 14 15120.000 kHz just
exactly the frequency. S=9+10dB here in Germany, flute mx from West
Africa. Also 0600 UT Oct 16.

Just measured it at 0920 UT 9690 kHz in English, the channel is exactly
9690.000 kHz, rather down half a Hertz.

15120.000  Vo Nigeria from Abuja site, not so bad audio feed today. Only
