TONY'S 10 METRE BAND REPORT - 22/11/2012

15:44 Fernando Luiz de Souza 0 Comments

Not a bad week with just a dip on Wednesday. Saturday was huge.
PT0S (Saint Peter and Saint Paul Rocks) was on the ball all week along with 5R8IC (Sainte-Marie Island), V84SMD (Borneo) and JX9JKO (Jan Mayen Is)
Joao, PU2LHA , worked VE6NU last Thursday, Brazil to Canada is quite a good trip.
Friday Paul, 2E0YYY worked a whole stack: TA1ATC 5/9, UY5UM 5/9, UT1IT 5/9, UT4HM 5/9, TB5ZND 5/8, UT1LL 5/9, ZU6KB 5/9, UR3IQJ 5/9, SV9ANK 5/9, ZS6DAY 5/7, ZS4LD 5/7, PP5BS 5/9, W3MQR 5/9, NA8Q 5/9, KJ4UGO 5/9, PY3AJB 5/7, LU3EMA 5/3, PY5AP 5/7, VE3SJN/M 5/7, VA3RDC/M 5/9, W8DJW 5/9, PU8YPC 5/9, WA4KEB 5/5, KB2TIA 5/7, AA3RE 5/9, R7AY 5/9 , KJ4WNW 4/2, ZS6AK 5/9, 3B8CW 5/9, ZS6NL 5/7, N2CEP, K3BFQ 5/5, PY1AIA 5/8, UY7MZ 5/7, KB2NNJ/M 5/5, UR6IG 5/6, EA8DAI 5/7, PY1PE 5/8, PU4MHO 5/9, 5G12ITD 5/9, HZ1ZH 5/9, W4SVO 5/9. He says,
“The 10m band was in much better shape than at the begining of the week when it was barely workable. Once again, the normally elusive South Africans were making the trip with plenty of South Americans calling in too. Another bright spot was Clive 3B8CW, calling in once again.

Being a big 15m fan, I've never really spent that much time on 10m in the past, however, I'm beginning to find the 10m band somewhat addictive!
Sorry to say Tony, I'm not a Stoke City fan even though my next door neighbour and his son are season ticket holders. Having lived most of my life in London, I'm a Spurs fan.”

A Spurs fan! Well someone has to be I suppose. And of course I won’t mention last week's result against Arsenal.
Paul continues, “Sunday well, I had to decide whether to go and sit on a cold SOTA summit, or spend some time in the nice warm radio shack working the 10m band. No contest, the shack won it. Plenty of DX to be found, although band conditions were somewhat erratic at times, with QSB appearing during the day, sometimes quite deep. Conditions into Africa were surprisingly difficult with just one ZS logged.
Here’s his list:

He says, “I have been tied up with work and other commitments of late and thus have not been near the radio. I did get on late last night and managed 11 QSO’s and just 4 QSO’s tonight.”

Well it’s good that business going well for you Dave, and the family’s fine.
Paul VK5PAS is another one who worked a stack on Sunday.
Good conditions on 10m on the short path this Sunday evening, 18th November, 2012. I heard quite a few stations working the LZ DX Contest, so I decided to put out a CQ DX call and was pleasantly surprised with a large number of takers. The band was very quiet noise wise and a very enjoyable Sunday evening was had here in the Adelaide Hills.” F4DPW 5/6, PD1AT 5/5, PD8JHS 5/7, DG6NBW 5/7, PA2MD 5/9, M0UOK 5/5, DL9HO 5/9, G3FPQ 5/9, G0RBD 5/9, M0IDD 5/9, M0CHK 5/5, PD3MR 5/5, G6TNW 5/3, 2E1IG 5/3I, M0SRS 5/7, G8AKL 5/7, RN2FQ 5/9, M0RZF 5/3, SP1RKT 5/9, ES1TU 5/8, LX1SG 5/6, ER4DX 5/9, A61BK 5/9, HZ1DG 5/9, EA3ESJ 5/9, EY7AD 5/9, EA1KY 5/9, PD1RK 5/7, VU2YVK 5/7, PB5X 5/8, UP0L 5/9, RX1CQ 5/9

The Leonid meteor shower peaked on Nov. 17/18 as Earth passes through a stream of debris from Comet Tempel-Tuttle. Reports so far are consistent with a weak shower--no more than about 10 per hour. In the past, Leonids have been known to produce fantastic storms of thousands of shooting stars. This year, however, Earth is passing through the outskirts of the comet's debris stream, so the shower is relatively mild. [spaceweather.com]
