TONY'S 10 METRE BAND REPORT - May 2, 2013

00:24 Fernando Luiz de Souza 0 Comments

May 2, 2013

A really dull week, Monday the band was hardly awake. Things did improve at the weekend though with 1660 reported contacts on Saturday and 1790 contacts on Sunday. No overall extra popular DX but there was a lot about.
I had my new rig (IC7600) under test and worked, on 10m, OD5, EA8, VU2, ZD7 and TR8CA without really trying. More tests and learning need to be done.
At the moment the power supply, a Mydel MP- 304 mkII, is causing concern, it’s very noisy.

Paul, VK5PAS , worked TJ3AY, 5/9, ZS6RF, 5/9, ZS2DL, 5/9, FR4PF, 5/9, Z81B 5/8 on Sunday. His comment was,
“Great conditions on the short path into Africa. Had a really great chat with Leon, ZS6RF for 30 minutes and signals held up really well.”

Mauricio, CA7FKG , heard the following stations OD5ZZ 59, K4A 59, YL2SM 59 and LX1KM 59. From his report I wasn’t sure if he’d worked them, so apologies if you did Mauricio.

Dave VK5MRD worked his usual “few” in between work and family. F5CAC, IK5IFH, UR3CTB, PD1RK, Z81B, JJ6VAR, KH6RC, JH1CDR, YB7GRN, ZL1ZLD, VU2DSI, VK3FFB, K6XX, W7CI, K6OKW, ZL1ABR, ZL2UJI, VK6HV and ZL2UJI. He says,
“I forgot to mention that today’s highlight was working Z81B from South Sudan. I was actually near the radio at the right time Hi Hi.”

And a farewell of sorts from Andy M0HLT. In his own words,
“Hi Tony and gang, I've not posted reports for a while, due to the fact I have been occupied with work things, as I am off to the Falkland islands on a 2 year work contract (6 months at a time).
I have arranged to acquire a VP8 call, but will not know the suffix until I get to the post office. I fly down (8000 miles) this Sunday the 28th, so when this is published, I would have been there a couple of days. Callsign info to follow, operation will be holiday style, and of course on 10ms, when conditions allow.
I will be working on the military base, British of course, 35 miles west of Port Stanley. There is a RAFARS shack on base, VP8FIR, got the contact for that. I am working for a MOD civilian contractor, maintenance etc as I am a career electrician, so QRV when work allows. I have arranged to meet up with BOB VP8LP, at his home. I am picking up a VP8 call from the local post office.
I was down there in 2002, as a contractor on a 5 week job, but this is a full time PAYE job, and of course a full licence this time. Had to do something work wise, as it’s still not good out there (uk wise). Jobs, but all temp/ agency work, and after 7 years down in Cornwall, most of that recession time. It's not good. I can also save and save, and the fiancé,  has come to terms with it, she wants a new car at the end of it anyway, 73 all.”

Well thanks for the long over, we await your first 10m report from VP land. I did warn him that the neighbours can be noisy, hi hi.
