May 23, 2013

Not a bad week at all, Thursday and Friday drooped a bit, but as usual the weekend compensated.
G100RSGB and GW100C are genuine calls to celebrate 100 years of the RSGB.
VP8DOH, Andy, did get on the air and into the list. There were other VPs out there. SX5KL (Athens) was well sought-after with CX1AZ (Uruguay) dominating on the weekend.
Owing to my early deadline last week, a few reports were held over to this week. Here they are now.
9W2VVH, Arie worked the following on the previous Monday:
G4RUW, 9A8DX, IT9AJP, ID9/HB9FNN, UA6GZ, OE5SLN, G0FWX, UR4QP, RU3GM, IT9SUQ, UA3RKK, RA6HNR, UA6BQC, UR4QQF, RA3RNN, R3ZF, US8UA, RX6LPV, ON6SX,R7FL, EW2CC, IW1GGR, SV2GWI, IW3IBN, SV2GNC, SV2GJV, SM4YPT, G0WCK, HB9SLO, M1WML, IZ7XMY, UY7MZ, G1UZD, F4EPR, HB3YFC,OH6RE, UY5VA, M0VKY,SP2Y, RN6HDL, DO1VC, F5RRO, DL5RMM & OH2PM.
He said, “Hi Tony... today May 13, 2013. Again The Malaysian 9W2 had their good time on 10m band! Opening to EU and wkd in pile-up condition. im managed to wkd 45 stns... Other local stn on air like 9W2SBD/qrp (47 QSOs), 9W2HWR (39) & 9W2MZY (106).”
Last Wednesday, ZamriX, 9W2NMX, worked TM3B 5/8, F4EJW 5/7, UR4MJB 57, IK2ZEC 5/3, EA2DNY 5/7, EA5ASB 5/7, F1AKE 5/7, UR6QA 5/8, UA3ZJI 5/9, EA3AXZ 5/8, EA6XQ 5/9, EA1KH 5/7, EA4HW 5/9, RU6YK 5/8, RN6A 5/9, WP4U 5/9, URØQK 5/9, IZ8LLQ 5/8, F1NZC 5/9, IZ8GCE 5/9, US1MD 5/7, UY7QN 5/9, IK8NSR 5/9, F1MLN 5/9, IV3XNF 5/3, EA7CB 5/9, EA5BZS 5/9, IK2SGF 5/9, IZ2IPF 5/7, EA4TV 5/8, UR8ES 5/8, FM5DN 5/8 and IZ8SUI 5/7.
He heard 9W2VXP 5/5, 9W2MZY 5/6, 9W2GEO 5/6 and 9W2YND 5/4. In his words, “After enjoying pile up on 7th May, Again on 8th May I did it again! WKD 33 Station while my 3 Element Yagi beaming to Europe as yesterday. After I 'start engine and warming up' QSO with TM3B at 28490KHz, I'm start CQing on 28500KHz at 1604z until 1648z. Really enjoy the pile up while the band is open in very good propagation. My 1st & 2nd target in 10m band reached on yesterday 7th May where I managed to reach the 100th QSO & 100th WKD Station. So after this I need to focus on to achieve my 3rd target of 100 DXCC anyway..
Thursday 9th May, I'm WKD 3 station only. Because it seems/sounds like I'm late to get a 'parking' for start a CQ session... Hihi.. Sounds like every frq full of pileup station but i can't here who is CQing.. Lucky tonight I finally WKD with 9M2IDJ.. This station is one of the first I've heard on 10m band since 2011 when I bought and setup my HF equipment Starting with Sloping inverted V dipole and my vertical antennas, I tried to get him as a contact on 10m band but failed. Tonight is my good fortune. With the help of 3 element Yagi beaming to south, I managed to WKD him RS 5/9. Saturday 11th May, I start quite early on OJØ2ux. Although not continuous, as could have dinner n watch television, I managed to WKD 6 stations. 1027z I 'enjoyed breakfast Tom Yam together with HSØZiN in Thailand'. Tea break with Sushi and Green Tea was co JA3JOT in Japan. My lunch was 2 times. Once together YC8GZP rice dish with chicken Penyet in Sulawesi, Indonesia and again in Kuala Lumpur with 9W2YND having grilled lamb meal. With HA1RJ we have afternoon tea break in Hungary. And fly directly to Columbia for dine together HK1T. That's fun to work at 10m band.”
Hey, leave some fun for the rest of us, don’t have it all.

Monday, Mohd, 9W2MZY, worked ID9/HB9FNN, UT9IX, RK6YT, MW3HAS, IT9SUQ, UR4MJB, SV2FLM, RX6LPV, R3ZF, RA6HNR, EW2CC, RA6LF, RA3AGF, OE5HWN, UA6GZ, SV2GWI, SV2GNC, IW3IBN, SV2HZT, SM4YPT, IZ7XMY, IW0HOQ, RM6J, G4VWX, G0RBD, US5UX, US3IHR, UF6VA, HB3YFC, ON4CB, UA6BML, F5RRO, ON6SX, RN6HDL, RU3GM, EA1SB, IT9WKU, EA7IQQ, OH1TX, OK1MOW, SP2Y, IW2EFG, G0WCK, R7FL, RA3BL, UY5VA, DL5OCD, SM5YSL, R3AT, OH2PM, I6KRC, DL5RMM, ON7TZ, LA9IMA, SP2DTO, R27AHA, PD1ATH, OZ9F, SQ4KBB, EA2AJB, EA5BZS, EB1IC, EA2DT, OZ7DKS, DL1EKQ, DL5SDZ, EA1EYG, DL3GCB, IK2XDF, F4EIT, IZ1WYO, PA3GWN, EA5KI, OH2LI, RX6LG, YL3CW, OK1BKO, EI6GHB, AE7QW, UT1LL, GI1ANG, S51GL, RW2CW, OH1QA, SP4PIN, PD0EMR, EA3GTO, SP1MWN, SP4KA, LA6SLA, KP4RV, SQ1PTO, SP4CMY, IZ7XNB, IZ7UMS, EA3AUQ, US8UA, DG0VO, F4FJL, SP6EF, G4ATA, SP6EQZ, IZ5ILF, SP9NRO, IZ3DVU, YO9GDN.
“This time I have worked a massive pile up on 10mtr , worked 100++ station , mostly towards European country with good report 59. Seem like the propagation on 10mtr opening in the midnight until 2 am early morning in Malaysia Standard Time, duration about 2 hours from 15:40 UTC until the end on 17:33 UTC.”
That is quite a pile up, many many years since I had one.

Shankar, A65CR , worked this lot from his balcony on Saturday, CT1ETK, CT1EWX, TA4AU, VU2PCD, 9M6YBG, 3B8CW, SV3ICL, UR4GE, RA3DKM, UR3IV, UT9IX, J28UC, 9W6DLD, 9A3B, UN6GK, UN7QF, HS0ZIN, UN7QF, HA3FTA, JA6XMM, 5B4AHY, 5B4AHY, YO3HBK, UK8OWW. “Back on 10m after a long time. Enjoyed the DX from my balcony antenna!”
And welcome back to you Shankar, 10m is in pretty good shape.
Sunday, Steve, M0BPQ worked CR3FZL, PR8ZX, CZ1AZ and D3AA and heard “Plenty of PY and LUs. The SPE season has also started so lots of EU on my reverse beacon skimmer. Only had about 30 mins on the band on Sunday, but good to hear some DX. 100W and triband yagi at 32 m agl.”
Andy, VP8DOH is definitely up and running working Saturday he worked LU, CE, CX, PY, EA8, CT, F, DL, ON, M0, MW0, MM0, G4, G3, EA, I, F, OM, RA6, RA1, UT, Z4 and ZS.
“Hi Gang, sorry I don’t have access to callsigns, but I think you get the idea. Strange to work what would be DX from the UK, but only a couple of thousand miles in some cases, operating on 28,444 (I will try and keep to this frequency) when QRV. First call in asking for UK stations was a 10watt M3, good on him, then of course ALL hell broke loose when I was spotted on the Cluster, now I know what it is like on the RX end! 2 hours and about 56 callsigns, and 16 (approx) countries was quite enough for the first operation from the shack (at the works location) 100watts, FT950, and a 5 band cobbwebb antenna, although plans afoot to get a lattice town and 3 ele tri-bander installed, By the way propagation was excellent to the UK at around 10am my time, or 2pm (utc+1) UK time, next operation will be a week Saturday, the 2nd I think? at those times.” Thanks for letting us know Andy, you can of course bank on a pile up now you’ve told us when.
Last but not least Dave, VK5MRD’s latest trawl. Monday he worked UR3CTB, 5B4AHY, 5B4AHY, PD1RK, RK3BF, UARPFM and UR4MSF.

Sun: 7 sunspot clusters, with spot AR1748 substantially decayed since it unleashed four X-flares last week. It now poses a lesser threat for M-flares.
The long-awaited sunset sky show
of May 2013 is beginning. In only a few days, Venus, Jupiter and Mercury will form a tight triangle in the western sky, visible to the unaided eye around the world. Last night, Fred Espenak of Portal, Arizona, photographed the trio in the early stages of convergence:
Last week, I was in Gran Canaria at Mas Palomas, not far from the satellite tracking radio telescopes (11) and I could easily see, naked eye, Jupiter and Venus.
Unfortunately now I’m back in the
UK and we have blanket white cloud forecast so the telescope will stay indoors.
Stoke and their manager, Tony Pulis have parted company. I’m sorry to see him go but time for a change. Who will the new manager be? Rafa Benitez, Roberto Manchini, Roberto Martinez, maybe the “Special One” if he really fancies a challenge.
