Re: LRA 36 recording, - tonight on 15475.997 kHz via SDR Perseus network
rx at Iceland.

Not bad wolfgang cold it be that you record with AGC off? Its two years
ago that I heard LRA36, she send me also a nice letter. Receive this
afther 6 months, so we are hope to listen to LRA36 its a great favorit for
me.
(Maurits van Driessche-BEL, wwdxc BC-DX TopNews May 10)

Yes, AGC taken off, switch the volume control by hand; and opened the
bandwidth curtain only in 15470 to 15476 kHz range, to cut-out BBC 15480
kHz outlet range.

15475.997 Audio level switch was off, from my tune-in at 1935 til 1949 UT
slot. Then at 1950 UT increased audio piece a little bit, operator
switched ON the volume controller at the Base Esperanza station. But
signal is lower on May 10th, than compared to yesterday night 19-21 UT.

Signal ist footprint wise 15 Hertz lower on 15475.997 tonight, was
15476.012 yesterday, LRA36 Radio Nacional Arcangel, from San Gabriel
(Base Esperanza, Antarctica), ATA.

No interference from BBC London Arabic tonight though. Heard again on
Perseus network rx at Iceland. Mostly S=4-5 just on threshold level. Used
Perseus in S-AM mode, only bandwidth of 15470 to 15476 kHz range used.
Recorded with Audacity software at Bitrate 48 kbit/s.

BRAZIL/COLOMBIA/MEXICO 6010 R Mil, still absent, and other details on
this frequency.

With the continued absence of the Mexican R Mil, I have been trying to
sort out the mess on 6010 kHz for several days. This morning, with some
band enhancement I came closer I believe. We have had reports of both a
Brazilian and a Colombian close together around this frequency. The
Brazilian lower, and the Colombian higher.

Probable stations: Radio Inconfidencia, Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais,
Brazil on 6010.120 kHz, and La Voz de tu Conciencia, Puerto Lleras,
Colombia on 6010.210 kHz.

At 0827 UT I began monitoring. The higher signal was slightly stronger. I
tuned lower sideband, centered on 6010.120 kHz, which I suspect is the
Brazilian. My logic is it should peak at their sunrise where I might get
an ID, before they fade and the other, higher one peaks, which I suspect
is the Colombian. The wandering modulation on the higher frequency is
obviously not present the past few days. (8 min screen shot) There is
however a noticeable drift on the lower frequency. It varies between
6010.120 and 6010.130 kHz, at least this morning.

Sunrise in Belo Horizonte - Minas Gerais, Brazil this morning was at
0913 UTC.

By 0921 UT the lower signal had faded below the level of the higher one.
It is fading more and at 0925 UT is barely above the noise.

At 0925 I tuned to USB and 6010.210 kHz. A Spanish speaking man is now
dominating the audio stream, as I have noted for a few mornings.
At 0927 UT the lower frequency is a mere whisper of what it was. This
could support the belief the Brazilian is indeed fading at their sunrise.

0931, an obvious Spanish Christian song starts.

0934 lower frequency barely visible in the SDR waterfall. And once again I
wait to ID. Recorder on when Spanish speaking man talks, recorder off when
another religious song starts. On and off-they don't seem to ID!

Sunrise in Puerto Lleras, Colombia is 0942.

0942 the signal indeed peaks for a few minutes with nonstop talking by
Spanish man. Lower frequency is totally gone.

0951 the upper frequency is fading from its peak. 0959 I turn recorder on
again. Signal obviously fading. 1000:30 short pause, then short accordion
interlude, followed by what I believe is an ID, with mention of Puerto
Lleras. Spanish man still talking from after TOH until 1008:30 when
another man begins talking with soft flute music underneath. This
continues through 1011:35 UT. Signal fading quickly. 1013 piano/vocals
with obvious FMing of signal now that music is present. 1018 it is fading
below listening threshold now.

CHINA Voice of Pujiang has closed all its shortwave service.
{c.f. bcdx topnews #1114]

Dear Friends of Voice of Pujiang,
As many monitors noted, Voice of Pujiang has already closed all its
shortwave service since 2 May, 2013. That means, 1 May is the last day of
Voice of Pujiang on the shortwave bands.

In recent years, Voice of Pujiang has already transformed into a local
station rather only focuses on Taiwanese audience. We still broadcast 18
hours daily on AM 1422 kHz. So, Medium wave DXers are still welcomed to
submit their reception reports. Best wishes!

ITU coordinates, of jamming location sites, direction finding bearings

- Tokyo city area is big and wide,

who knows in which quiet area and suburban village monitoring center is

GERMANY 783/1044/1188 The three mediumwave transmitters of MDR in
Saxony are now silent. As last one left Wilsdruff the air at 0937 UT, as
first one Reichenbach between 0805 and 0815. Wiederau has been turned off
in between, also after 0900 or even 0910 I think.

The whole closure turned into a funny mess, caused by the elaborated
approach to air a retune loop. At 0400 sharp the playout of this loop
stopped (must have been programmed this way), leaving open carriers on 783
and 1044 kHz while at Reichenbach the silence detector kicked in and put
MDR Info on air again. Shortly afterwards the 783 carrier went off. It is
not known so far if this was done manually by an engineer or, as I assume,
by an automated system that cuts the carrier when there is no program
audio, perhaps related to the DCC system installed only on this
transmitter.

At 0700 sharp the playout of the loop resumed and Reichenbach rejoined the
regular feed. So all three transmitters again carried that brainwashing
stuff until they have finally been turned off as described above.

And so ended the era of AM broadcasting in Saxony with a blunder that
perfectly fits my opinion about MDR. Now we're curious what we may hear on
783 and 1188 (on 1044 it's San Sebastian anyway) when night comes...

MYANMAR Re: 9730.000 Myanmar Radio Rangoon.
A few days before I left for Melbourne I heard 7110 kHz around 1400 with a
test tone and into modulation and off. It appeared that the txer which had
technical problems, which as a result was off the air 2300-0130 on 6030,
0430-0630 9460 and 1030-1500 on 7110 kHz was being repaired, which might
be the one Wolfy heard on 9730 kHz.

I am on holiday visiting my daughter and her family who live in Melbourne,
Bon Beach Australia, till the 27th of May. I did not bring my Perseus or
any receiver. If any Ozzie DXplorers like to call me please do; the number
here is 0061435792786. Experiencing lovely wx.

For those who want SLBC QSLs, please hold on till I get back. I will get
things attended to ASA I get home.

PAPUA NEW GUINEA Long-awaited QSL for a January 2006 reception of the
4960 kHz transmitter of St. Gabriel Radio (Catholic Radio Network bcsting
from Vanimo) rcvd from Father Paul Kote, the (relatively) new Director of
Radio Maria, the current all-FM Catholic radio network in Papua New
Guinea. The QSL (attached) was a card I designed that Father Paul signed
along with a station stamp, scanned and e-mailed back to me. He mentioned
that shortwave may be reinstated from Vanimo but that it was a low
priority given funding constraints. He was able to QSL based on a Radio
Maria audio technician listening to my recording on <www.box.com> .

This is the same Radio Maria organization that I hrd several yrs ago as
the Polish Radio Maryja (Polish for Maria) transmitting from Samara
Russia. Just getting a decent recording of this station was a challenge as
it never matched other PNG 1 kW stations like Radio Fly and Wantok R.
Light in signal quality. If there are any others out there who have
recordings of the CRN xmtr on 4960, I believe Father Paul will oblige with
a QSL. As far as I can determine, this transmitter went off the air
sometime in 2006 after Radio Maria assumed control of the network.

PORTUGAL 720 RTP-Antena 1, Miramar 720 kHz site Collapse.

Back in January of this year, the top hat monopole at Miramar collapsed
due to a storm: this may be old news by now.

Acc. to another piece of info. I got yesterday, the site shows no wrecks,
no trace of the antenna at all, just the concrete base.

While all these months can be considered more than enough time to ge the
site active again, in a recent phone call to the RTP last week I learned
the company has not rulled out the possibility of installing a new
tower... but at the same time there is simply no plans for a new one. This
sort of "action" has unfortunately become the typical reaction of the RTP
whenever one of their MW antennae collapses.

Examples thereof existed in Porto Santo & Madeira as well as in the
Acores: in the former archipelago, the other two remaining txs, Ponta do
Pargo 1125 kHz & Sr.a do Monte 1332 kHz, were shut down while in the
Acores only two txs remain active, viz. on 828 and 837 kHz.

This time, however, there were complaints from listeners in the Porto
region, but in view of the shear lack of response from the RTP in terms of
reactivating the fq , I wouldn't be at all surprised, if 720 kHz Miramar
(*) may be left on a long, very long stand by period or simply suppressed.

RUSSIA [Chechen Rep] April 17, 2013 - this year marks 85 years since I
first radio call sounded in the Chechen Republic in the Chechen language.

The first airing of Grozny broadcast station PB-23 was held April 17,
1928. Worked as a station on the wave of 380 meters with 500 watts.
November 20, 1936 radio station was an independent organization with a
staff of 6 people. Less than a year later PB-23 already had a radio unit
for receiving the circular radio messages from the city of Pyatigorsk and
radio coverage of Grozny to the remote mountain regions of the country.

At the birth of the Chechen Radio were such luminaries as Chechen
journalism Saidy Hasanov, Mahammad Mamakayev, Arby Mamakayev, Andarbek
Shamilev and others. RTPTS (Broadcasting House) Chechnya - this is one of
the first stations of the North Caucasus.

In 1944, after the expulsion of the Chechens and Ingush{to Kazakhstan...},
radio work was stopped. But in spite of the difficult years of deportation
in 1955 in Kazakhstan, representatives of creative intelligentsia resumed
work Chechen Broadcasting, which was continued after returning to their
historic homeland in 1957.

During this period, were actively involved in the work of journalists
Andarbek Shamilev, Shama Tsakayev, Khamzat Sarakaev, Salman Aiskhanov,
Shaid Deegan and others. Broadcasting was conducted in three languages -
Chechen, Ingush and Russian. In autumn 1958 began construction of a
television center in Grozny, and from November 7, 1959, and opened an
experimental television broadcast on TVK 3 2 kW. May 1, 1961 the Grozny
television station building was completed, was made official the facility
into operation.

Back in 1943 the staff of the Chechen radio and RTPTS ensure uninterrupted
broadcasting and radio communications during air strikes on Grozny and
massive fires in oil wells of the city. It took 49 years, and again RTPTS
the Chechen Republic was in the maelstrom of war. In the early 90's radio
work was again suspended. July 1st, 1992 at 1:00 50 minutes on VHF station
in Grozny was all about. As a result of a terrorist act tragically killed
the watchman Zabnin B. and M. Piminova operator, was completely destroyed
by an equipment trunk signaling TV and radio programs are incapacitated
all feeder line transmitters. Employees RTPTS made great efforts to
restore equipment, and July 16 broadcast of all programs again been
continued as usual.

As a result of the fighting in the period from December 1994 to February
1995 infrastructure RTPTS CR was significantly destroyed, completely
destroyed by two powerful radio center and a powerful VHF station. In
1995, the efforts of the Beslan Haladova and other journalists it was
renewed. The same structure also contributed to the revival of the regular
broadcasting in 2000. Since 2001, the restoration of the network
broadcasting the beginning of the line provided by the federal target
program "Restoring the economy and social sphere of the Chechen Republic."

May 27, 2001 by Terridge in the Mount Hawk was commissioned television and
radio transmitters power of 1 kW -5. During 2002 to 2006. renovated and
restored in broadcasting Nadterechniy, Naur, Shelkovskom, Gudermes, Grozny
districts, established distribution network of satellite television and
radio programs STRC "Vainakh" restored television broadcasting on a
temporary basis in the mountain villages Greyhound Chatou and Kharachoy.

Today, the airwaves is represented mainly by two major radio channels from
Chechen broadcasters - RTR "Vainakh" and CGTRK "Terrible".

Television and Radio Broadcasting "Grozny" is working in satellite mode
and packet-switched networks (computer networks - the Internet radio). In
December 2008 RTRS FSUE "Chechen RTPTS" together with "Telecom-project-5"
assembled and installed equipment transmitting and receiving control and
satellite TV stations broadcasting in the city of Grozny.

A little earlier in Grozny assembled and erected a 120-meter radio and
television tower on the mountain hawk-like. In addition, at about the same
time earned three relay and the administration building radio television
broadcasting center CR.

The country achieved expansion of the zone of federal television channels
and distribution television broadcasting signals in mining and in the
plains.

Radio is now very much in demand in the country, especially among young
people. Every day, watching as public transport youth listening to music
on headphones. Basically - it is the students, high school students. Also,
it's interesting to know the latest news on the go, which keeps you
informed of new developments. Radio has become an integral part of
society.

TAJIKISTAN/KAZAKHSTAN/[U.K.] 1251 / 1188 BBC's odd transmission via
Dushanbe, Tajikistan.

Although BBC Russian Service stopped producing most of its shows and news
programmes along with broadcasting on short waves back in March 2011,
there is still a mysterious medium wave transmission on 1251 kHz (which
seems to be via Yangi-Yul, Tajikistan, 100 kW) at 1730-1800 UT Monday -
Friday, carrying back editions of BBSeva show hosted by Seva Novgorodsev.

This broadcast has not been mentioned in BBC's official schedules for two
years now, though several times I used to see it in WRTH pdf supplements,
along with an odd broadcast on 1188 kHz (B-11) in Kazakhstan. What is the
point of carrying back editions on a regular basis? Maybe someone knows
more on that...

P.S. It should be noted that starting from March 2011 BBC Russian Service
produces only three radio shows available as podcasts.
