Another *'difficult'* find.

MW & SW site of RADIO VERDES FLORESTAS *I tentatively* suspect for

I think this site might fit.

Some of the Google map overlays in the western remote areas of Brazil for

CHAD 6164.960 Radio Diffusion Nationale Tschadienne from N'Djamena with
fair signal across Sahel zone into Europe, at 2120 UT April 29. Very nice

CHINA 6065 CNR2 - "Haiyang live show".
CNR-2 / China Business Radio, 1210, April 26. Comedy / variety "Haiyang
live show"; in Chinese; 6065 kHz // with 6155, 7315, 7375, 9755, 9775 kHz
(strong het produced by Taiwan's Fu Hsing BS on 9774 kHz) and 9810 kHz
(suddenly off 1229* UT; conforms to schedule). Several program IDs in
English; "Ladies and gentlemen - Haiyang live show", per attached audio.

At 1230 UT additional frequency of 7265 kHz and also heard 6090 kHz (which
earlier was blocked by R. Japan in Chinese); continuing with the "Haiyang
live show".

1300 UT heard 6065 kHz // with 6090, 6155, 7245, 7265, 7315, 7375, 7425,
9755, 9775 kHz (no het - Fu Hsing BS signed off 1300* UT) and 9820 kHz.

CHINA CNR Lushan Emergency Radio (LER) National Urgent Radio 9800 and
12000 kHz noted at 0537 UT April 23.
(wb, wwdxc BC-DX TopNews April 23)

9800 CNR 1 National emergency broad
0000-2400 daily Chinese 100 217 Shijiazhuang #723 CHN CNR1 from Apr.22

12000 CNR 1 National emergency broad
0000-2400 daily Chinese 100 217 Shijiazhuang #723 CHN CNR1 from Apr.22

And that answers my next question about transmitter site. But why? CNR1 is
already ubiquitous to say the least all over China and most of the world.
There is no point in adding these unless there is special programming on
them. Maybe part of the time it's Lushan Emergency Radio (and how is that
ID in Chinese?), filling the rest with CNR1?

I was monitoring 12000 this morning, and CNR1 // programming was there for
a while, but also something else, detailed report to follow. Of course,
it's also a Voice of Vietnam frequency, not a very good choice for another
China outlet. Note yesterday I was also having CNR1 QRM to VOV at 1251.
(Glenn Hauser-OK-USA, dxld Apr 24)

CHINA 9800 Lushan Emergency Radio (LER) (presumed), at 1101-1108 UT on
April 30. The scheduling of the non-CNR1 programming is rather fluid; this
segment not // CNR1 (6125 kHz) and sounded appropriate for the post
earthquake emergency broadcasting; gave out phone numbers; at 1108 UT
switched over to CNR1 programming. Noted 1136 to 1200 UT with LER
coverage; YL announcer with background piano music; played a lot of EZL
songs. 1200 UT QRM and again switch back to CNR1 programs; // 12000 kHz.

Re: CNR National Monitoring May 1 randomly from 1005 to 1115 UT on 9800
// 12000.

Times that I heard Lushan Emergency Radio (presumed), i.e. non-CNR1
programming (not // CNR1):

1005-1007; 1016-1018; 1029; 1101-1107 and 1114-1115 UT.
Times carrying CNR1 programming ( // CNR1):
1007; 1018; 1107 and 1115 UT.

Clearly they are frequently switching back and forth between their own
Lushan Emergency Radio programming (usually either woman announcer with
background piano music or playing EZL music) or carrying the normal CNR1
programs.

Thanks Sei-ichi for the additional information. Also thanks to Jonathan
Short <Qiao Xiaoli> for his response to my inquiry about Lushan Emergency
Radio:

CHINA Firedrake Logs from Shanghai, China, April 21, 2013 I brought
along my Sony SW77 on this trip to Shanghai, China and I was able to log
the following Firedrake signals from my hotel. I did not really realize
how many Firedrake signals are present at one time until I started to log
them all!

I just let the SW77 scan up the dial and quickly noted the frequency which
was Chinese and had CNR programming (so some of these may be "legit"
frequencies mixed in with intended jammers). All frequencies had Chinese
talk or music except the ones noted with buzz jamming.

(Harry Smith, on trip to Shanghai-CHN, dxld Apr 24;
adds of var. sources at other times of the day, checked by wb on April 27)

Harry, Quite a list. The term "Firedrake" applies only to the raucous
instrumental music modulation, not to CNR1 programming. But apparently you
did not note which frequency had which?

Just yesterday and today a lot of the traditional Firedrake frequencies
have been occupied by CNR1 modulation instead, to confuse matters further.
No doubt the same transmitters/sites, just different modulation input.
(Glenn Hauser-OK-USA, ibid.)

Hello all, Over the last couple of days I have noticed that many time
slots and frequencies that are normally the Firedrake Jammer have switched
audio to CNR 1. For example, at 1340 UT today (April 21, 2013) the
frequencies of 14700, 15115, 16160, and 16920 all had CNR 1 audio on them,
but normally they have Firedrake in this time slot.

Not only is the CNR 1 audio being used on these frequencies instead of
Firedrake, but the way they came online to cover the stations they were
jamming is the same way Firedrake does it.

For those not familiar, Firedrake has 2 basic modes of operation, "on at
the top of the hour" and "on later". In the "on at the top of the hour"
mode Firedrake typically comes on like any other SW station at the top of
the hour or slightly before. In the "on later" mode Firedrake comes on
sometime after the station to be jammed starts, typically Firedrake audio
starts anything from 5 to 40 minutes after the hour, with about 10 to 20
minutes after the top of the hour being average.

For the last few days I have seen the CNR 1 audio start displaying the "on
later" habits of Firedrake and on frequencies that Firedrake has normally
hit. In the last 12 hours I have found NO Firedrakes active, and normally
I find them at will.

In the 1400 UTC time slot only two CNR 1 audio jammers appear to be active
at this time (1445 UTC), on 12230 and 12370 kHz, both regular Firedrake
targets. All other outlets of Sound of Hope and other regular Firedrake
targets are in the clear and have been for the entire hour.

Could the Chinese, in response to the recently publicized jamming articles
and complaints, have reduced usage of Firedrake? I suppose they could be
having technical issues.

T! Mojave Desert, California, USA
(via Dan Ferguson-USA, NASWA yg via dxld)

Hi Dan, As I have written in the past, Firedrake and CNR-1 appear to have
the same point of control as well as some commonality in transmitter sites
and transmitter feed sourcing. It has not been uncommon for CNR-1 and
Firedrake, on different days, or even on the same day at different times,
to be targeting the same frequency.

I did not monitor Firedrake Saturday or Sunday due to other commitments.
However, I did monitor them on Monday through Friday last week and
Firedrake was heard on over a dozen frequencies with nothing that I would
consider to be a major deviation. During my listening times of 1130-1530
GMT daily, Firedrake was heard primarily targeting the Sound of Hope, and
secondarily targeting the Voice of Tibet, and to a much smaller degree,
Radio Free Asia.

Again, it is not usual that CNR-1 and Firedrake change off day to day, and
sometimes even hour to hour against specific frequencies.

Also be aware that CNR-1 and Firedrake are NOT the only Chinese jammers.
There are other "systems" in use, including, but not limited to the
propeller jammer (so named because it sounds like an airplane propeller).

Also be aware, that for what I assume are "high value" target broadcasts,
the Chinese sometimes "double team" a frequency, using more than one
jammer on the same frequency at the same time. For example using both
Firedrake and CNR-1 or both Firedrake and Propeller.

Please understand that I am not saying that there hasn't been a change.
What I am saying is that a few days, does not a trend make. A lengthy
study, perhaps a month or two would need to be done. At least one such
study is in progress. The results of a lengthy study should allow perhaps
five hundred or more jamming intercepts to be made and compared to prior
Firedrake/CNR frequency usage. That should provide an answer, with some
degree of certainty, as to whether the Chinese have made an actual
strategy change or whether it is simply part of the normal Chinese
rotation of their various jammers.
(Steve Handler-USA, ibid.)

We don't need 500 intercepts to conclude that there has been a drastic
reduxion/replacement of FD audio by CNR1 audio. This is probably less
significant than it may seem, perhaps even ad-hoc punching in a different
audio circuit at master control on a whim, and could easily shift back to
FD audio any day now. We prefer FD because it's so easy to spot in
bandscanning, and has to be for jamming, rather than CNR1 which on some
frequencies is legit.

CHINA Voice of Pujiang will terminate shortwave service this year.

Dear radio friends of Voice of Pujiang,
As early as last year, the director of China Business News Radio, of which
Voice of Pujiang is a part, was considering terminate all the shortwave
service to save money and put more fund to develop new media, especially
social media. This year we also see that we have developed smartphone
application for both android and iphone.

For iphone users, the app can be installed here:
<https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.esa.pujiang&hl=zh_CN>

Now, I am authorized to announce that Voice of Pujiang will terminate all
the shortwave service this year. This decision was promoting by our
director and approved by Shanghai Media Group and several upper
authorities. For the exact date, we don't even know, because it needs a
complicated bureaucratic procedure to have the decision to reach into the
telecom company's hand and implement by the transmitting site. The Zhenru
transmitting site is a very historic one, built in the year of 1930, while
the three transmitters were relocated and reorganized here in 1980s. In my
opinion, it will end as early as in this May and as late as before the
beginning of B13 time.

As a DXer myself, actually, I very much favor with this decision. I deeply
know that there is a much shrinking and very limited audience on the
shortwave. But I am still very much sad to see Voice of Pujiang joining
with other stations to say goodbye to shortwave. This is the tide of our
era, we can not resist it.

Still, I am very much pleased to verify reception reports before the
closure of shortwave service, issuing QSL letters both regular and
electronic.The schedule is:11.30 - 16.00 UTC on 3.280 kHz, 4.950 kHz and
5.075 kHz. Some monitors say the 5.075 will change to 9.705 in early May.
Again, I don't even know because we have no contact with transmitting
site.It is totally their decision to change or not.For regular reception
reports, an IRC is needed to cover the international postage and the
address is as follow:

Mr. Qian Xiaoyan
Voice of Pujiang
Floor 11,Radio Building
No.1376 Hongqiao Road
Changning District
SHANGHAI 200051
P.R. CHINA.

At last, many thanks for your yearly support. For most BCLers and Dxers, I
have to say goodbye to you, because I think you will less likely to listen
to our programs on smartphones.

Best wishes!

GERMANY/AUSTRIA/FRANCE/MADAGASCAR/SRI LANKA
Wertachtal almost dead (Re: A-13 MBR schedule, April 15).

Perhaps I missed it, but in case it has not been gathered from all the
clutter yet:

No use of Trincomalee-CLN by Media Broadcast anymore, so apparently the
Germans have finally withdrawn and SLBC is on its own with this facility
now. Placements at Moosbrunn-AUT have revived, and for the first time
bookings have been placed at Kostinbrod-BUL and Talata Volonondry-MDG,
both for Bible Voice Broadcasting.

But by far the biggest bummer: Wertachtal-D has essentially been
withdrawn, almost all transmissions have been transferred to other sites
in at least three steps during April. Have VOA and RFE/RL ever used
Issoudun-F before April 1st? (As far as I know: No.)

Still scheduled for Wertachtal-D are Brother Scare 1400-1600 UT on 9450
kHz, Lutheran World Federation 1830-1900 on 9655 and, if this transmission
exists at all, WRMI with what? 1930-2000 on 11945. On Thu and Sat there is
also Radio Biafra London 1900-2000 on 11840 and only on Sat Bible Voice
Broadcasting 1500-1515 UT on 21460 kHz. That's all now.

Reminds me badly of the final weeks/months of Juelich-D, when only two
transmissions in a very limited time frame remained to facilitate
maintaining the equipment in operational condition. I suspect that's also
the state in which the Wertachtal-D plant is now, for the time being,
until a final closure at a not too distant point in future if not
something completely unexpected will happen.

Re. MBR MEDIA BROADCAST (ex Deutsche Telekom, DTK),
comment by wb.: TENTATIVELLY - in HFCC list requested under YFR Arabic,
English, and French languages.

I.e. merely wishful thinking. Is Harold Camping still able and, more
importantly, willing to grasp that he has killed his life's work himself,
even hit more than just the final nail into the coffin of the largest
shortwave plant in Central Europe? What a tragic figure.
(Kai Ludwig-D, dxld May 1)

re Wertachtal almost dead (Re: A-13 MBR schedule, April 15)
Not looking good for Wertachtal. Perhaps corporate cousin TDF Issoudun in
France provides enough capacity along with Nauen-D.

I recall hearing the original test transmissions from Wertachtal-D in the
early 1970's. Big improvement over Juelich-D for DW reception.

Speaking of Madagascar and BVB I notice that tdp.info shows the two
Thomson transmitters from Bonaire being moved to the MGLOB facility. I
think there were three units moved from Horby. Could MGLOB have as many as
six transmitters operating, assuming the electrical supply will handle it?
Might be as many as seven if the old "third" (ABB?) 250 kW unit is also
still running? I assume the original two Philips from 1972 were scrapped.

GERMANY MDR mediumwave closure FOR EVER. 784/1044/1188 transmitters.

1 May 2013, 1841 UT: MDR Info is still on air with the loop that advises
listeners about the MW closure.

They (= MDR radio headquarters at Halle/Saale) made the switch from MDR
Info to this loop on April 30 at 0400 UT, causing problems due to a
combination of a pretty high audio level and their typical overproduced
style, with every gap between words being filled by this oh-so dramatic
and emotional bumper bed (as they would use it to produce promos with
hooks from reports about someone's death, as done in 2005, driving me
finally and definitely away after I found this too disgusting) with its
distinctive bass component. It brought them very soon a phone call, urging
them to reduce the audio level.

Vague but plausible word is that the transmitters will be finally turned
off on Monday in the morning ("between 6 AM and 8 AM"), when maintenance
staff is at work again and will drive out to kill these babies.

Here are a recording of the switch-over and two so far unseen video clips
from the Dresden-Wilsdruff MW 1044 kHz transmitter, with the second one
from June 30 1993, showing also the Funkwerk Koepenick original of
1953year vintage 250 kW transmitter on its last day of regular operation
(it has been turned on again only one more time, 2.5 months later for
presentation on an open house day):

MOLDOVA [to Eritrea] 11610 MY most awaited catch:
11610 Sharooqa program finally heard !!!
1610 UT YL with stringed instrument S=6-7 IDed by OM and echoed (not clear
with many talks in AR) Program seems religious (?? Catholic? ) as 'al
kitab' was mentioned several times. then HOA songs were aired. Therefore I
can suppose that the program is aimed towards Somalia (??).

Question: I read that Sharooqa means sunrise. Is this station related to
Radio Sunrise of UK? AFAIK in older times was a possibly successful Indian
song station.

Below are logs only on shortwave using R75 with 2x16inv V and HF150 with
16 m horizontal antenna and with the help of DX remix bulletins:

15400 Kenyalang {via Palau?} is blocked (?)by the local FDM like beacons
of signal S4.

13820 KLL-Germany 0907 UT song 'chary chery lady' and signal S=3 max. at
1057 UT talks by man in German. On 1100 UT there was the German version of
'easy rider'.

15720 (S4)and 17720 (S1) Pakistan in Chinese program with quranic sermons
like prg at 1210 UT clock (!) then man with news. Both with garbled
modulation.

It's the same Organization for Radio Erena, and Radio Assenna.
Mainly an opposition group against the current regime in Asmara, Eritrea.

mentioned.

MOLDOVA/KOREA D.P.R. 11635 Terrible co-channel MIXTURE sound service at

fluttery audio at S=8 signal on sidelobe target in southern Germany.

MYANMAR 9730.855 R. Myanmar, 1110 UT definite talk by W, in music at
1111 UT. W returned at 1118:50 UT. Stronger than noted the other day and
actually fairly strong carrier, but audio level barely there. Slightly
stronger on the Wellbrook but also higher noise. Easy-listening M vocal
subcontinental music at 1218 UT. Soft-spoken W at 1222 UT briefly, then
back to music. W announcer again at 1225 UT. Suddenly off at 1227:45 UT.

Severe QRM from 9730 CRI Kunming relay after 1200 UT but able to notch it
out. Actually both were about equal. Had Myanmar's audio level been up to
100%, it would have been IDable. 8 April.
(Dave Valko-PA-USA, dxld Apr 24)

But when checked this channel before CRI starts at 1200 UT :
At 1055-1105 UT Apr 28 heard undoubtedly Myanmar Radio phone in program -
today on different new unit on EVEN 9730.000 kHz - by female announcer in
'singing' Burmese tonality, to male in-caller. poor signal on remote SDR
unit at Brisbane AUS.
(wb, wwdxc BC-DX TopNews Apr 28)

Thanks Wolfy for the tip. April 30 also heard on 9730.00 kHz at 1123 UT
Apr 30; ex-9730.83 kHz; poor in vernacular.

[later] Re: 9730.000 Myanmar Radio Rangoon.
Hi Wolfy, Please check this out! May 1 at 1023 UT heard the Myanmar tx on
9730.81 kHz, but by my next check made at 1119 UT, had switched tx to the
one with exact frequency (9730.00).

This is the identical situation that Myanmar used with their tx's some
years ago on another frequency. An hour or two before they ended their
broadcasting day they, for some reason that I never figured out, would
stop using the off frequency tx (5985.83 kHz) and started transmitting
with a tx with the exact frequency of 5985.00 kHz.

Needs more monitoring to confirm this is what is happening with 9730.81 /
9730.00 kHz. The switch perhaps is happening around 1030 UT or so?
(Ron Howard-CA-USA, wwdxc BC-DX TopNews May 1)

MYANMAR 9730.831 ODD frequency signal of Myanmar Radio Rangoon. Empty
channel when tuned-in at 1024 til 1028 UT May 2.
But Rangoon TX switched on into service, started at 10.28:30 UT.

Followed program by Burmese female announcer, at 1042 UT also male voice
noted. Signal was tiny poor, S=4 about -105 dB signal strength, but at
1105 UT increased to -90dB, like S=5-6 strength.

Still on odd frequency at 1125 UT, but station OFF the air when checked
again at 1135 UT May 2nd.

For orientation heard on adjacent channels
9725.000 CRI Hohhot in Russian language.
9734.985 RTI Taiwan, Hakka/Japanese services from Tainan-TWN site.

5915.000 Poor signal on THRESHOLD level, like Burmese typical music noted
at 1120 UT May 2, originate probably from Naypyidaw.

Nothing from Myanmar on 6030, 7110 and 7200/7185v kHz.

But Naypyidaw heard with native ladies songs on 7345.0 kHz at 1133 UT on
May 2 [requested 1030-1330 UT], on equal signal level of co-channel CNR
Beijing in Chinese from 1100 UT.

And on 5985.790 kHz noted a rather strong open carrier of S=8-9 in peaks,
fluttery signal at 1122 UT, probably also odd Rangoon unit. Yes, heard on
next tune-in check at 1136 UT in likely Burmese language.

All monitoring done at remote SDR unit in downunder Australia.

Rangoon schedule seemingly like probably this on Aoki list
9730.0  0230-0730  {En nx at 0700 // MW 576 594 kHz}
9730.8 0730-1100
9730.0 1100-1228 UT.

acc Aoki list
Naypyidaw 9590 kHz 0130-0930 UT.

[later] CONTINUATION Myanmar log May 2nd.
7200.087 Myanmar Radio Rangoon noted here on odd frequency from 1200 UT
May 2 onwards. S=6-7 fluttery signal at -90dBm strength level.

But also on TWO ACCOMPANIED spurious signals, some 14.283 kHz distance
AWAY.
Little lesser signals on both 7185.804 and 7214.370 kHz channels.

On 9730.000 only CRI English program heard from Kunming in 12-13 UT slot.
All monitoring done at remote SDR unit in downunder Australia.

Re: Radio Taiwan Internacional anuncio que desmantelar subestaciones que
transmiten noticias sin censura hacia China continental.

This story published by Epoch Times is a piece of Falun Gong propaganda.
Epoch Times is leaving vital information out and has created much of the
information in it's story. First Epoch Time is funded by Falun Gone just
as New Tang Dynasty Television. While it's true that the Huwei station is
being taken off line.

There is a good reason.
First: This site is only of the older ones in Taiwan and has many
technical issues.

Second: These antenna and this site is and was used for targeting South
East Asia. Never China.

Third: The other site they mention is in the same position as the Huwei
site. And broadcasts from these two relays will be moved to the more moden
stations.

Fourth: RTI managers have met with CRI managers many times before.

Fifth: The meeting that took place was at a meeting of Asia broadcasters.
Other broadcasters were there.

Sixth: These two sites were slated to be cut years ago.

Epoch Times is very pro Democratic Progressive Party or PAN GREENS. Ever
since Ma Ying Jeou was elected as President of Taiwan Epoch Times and New
Tang Dynasty Television have been on a all out attack against the
Kuomintang or PAN BLUES.

This story is nothing more than political propaganda against the Ma
government. It increased when the former DPP and President Chen Shibien
was sentenced to 20 years in prison over corruption. The DPP and Falun
Gong keep saying these charges are all fake. This is despite the fake that
the US Government has seized property with 30 million USD, The swiss
Government returned to Taiwan over 20 million in Swiss Bank accounts.
Chen's children who fled Taiwan have an arrest warrant against them for
making a transfer of Taiwan state funds to Singapore worth 2 million.

Informationen ueber WRMI.

Radio Miami International wurde im Jahr 1989 gegruendet von Jeff White
(derzeit Generaldirektor) und Kiko Espinosa (Cheftechniker, der 2005
verstarb). RMI fing 1989 mit gemieteter Sendezeit bei anderen
Kurzwellensendern an verschiedenen Orten an zu senden. Schliesslich

Service of the Christian Science Monitor, der Voice of America, Radio
Canada International, Radio Netherlands, der Deutschen Welle sowie vielen
weiteren Senderketten.

Programme "Viva Miami" in beiden Sprachen. In seiner Freizeit reist er
gerne mit Thais.

Thais White (Jeffs Ehefrau) ist unsere Bueroleiterin und Managerin unserer
Reiseabteilung; gelegentlich kann sie auf "Viva Miami" gehoert werden. In
