TONY'S 10 METRE BAND REPORT - JULY 4, 2013

17:27 Fernando Luiz de Souza 0 Comments

July 4, 2013

A good week for me, well Wednesday anyway, I was top spotter.
Actually in general the week was very low and although the weekend was better it was not really brilliant.

Better to come as there are 10m contests this coming weekend.
Our newest recruit, Steve, M0STC has sent some info regarding his kit.
“Three antenna pictures attached. It's a Sirio SY 27-4, which I have trimmed down for 28.3MHz, and this seems to have worked well as it is a good match over most of the 10M band.
As you can see, it's not very high up, and it's right up close to the house, trees and phone lines, so maybe some of its theoretical 10dB gain is lost.

Also I am waiting to see if there is any negative reaction from neighbours, and I'm hoping I don't get any complaints about interference to TV/radio/audio systems !
(Actually I have had to take some measures in our house to eliminate problems with broadcast FM radio reception and computer audio.:)
We have a very small back garden which is mostly tree-covered and crossed by two or three phone lines, i.e. pretty well useless for antennas, so fixing it to the back of the house was really the only option. The difficult part was working out how to get it up there in the very restricted space, but I managed it single-handed in the end.
When I get a rotator I will try to get it a bit higher, and it will need additional support (guying, or more aluminium and wall fixings) if it is to become permanent.

Anyway, it seems quite promising so far, and as I said, I'll let you know when it's pointing your way.”
Tuesday “Data Modes worked: CX1BP -12 (JT65) Antenna pointing west this week.” Wednesday LU8DY 4/9. Saturday SP6EIY 4/9, OK1NZJ 4/9. Sunday CT2HFZ 5/9, PY2DN 5/9, LU1DA 4/9, LU3VCV -19 (JT65), EA2BPJ -11 (JT65). Heard: PY3AGI, CT1EDJ, IZ0OVW, SP9MRO, TR8CA (USB).“Very frustrating not having a rotator !”

Yes, I’m sure, but not half as frustrating as not having a cracking beam like yours (or linear). (Grumble, grumble).
Still here’s my (G4CJC) list just for the week from 24 th to 30 th inclusive, IZ8OYV, OE5BTM, OE2GEN, DJ5RQ, R6AV, YL3BF, IK3FUS, LA1SNA, IZ8GNR, IZ5HGI, I0KNQ, CT4RC, IZ4UFB, XR80PDI, IZ8QKJ, EA3FHP, SP6MLT, SP7CKU, UR5WCA, IZ7DMT, EU3AA, F1PKH. Mostly PSK31 but a couple of SSBs.

Sun: Seven sunspot clusters with whopper sunspot AR1785 posing a growing threat for flares.

Stoke sprang a slight surprise in signing Marc Muniesa from Barça (Barcelona), defender/ midfielder. So now we need a winger or two and a sure fire goal hitter.
The Lions have it all to do on Saturday, what a build up. My James who lives about half a km from the Sydney ground can’t get the ticket so will have to watch it in a pub with lots of other rugby mad guys. Oh what a shame, my heart goes out to him (not).
The Ashes approacheth.
