TONY'S 10 METRE BAND REPORT - August 15, 2013

August 15, 2013

Contacts were very thin on the ground again this week with the peak being on Sunday.

Again no single station dominated the scene. Unusual but pleasing to see a Guernsey station GU3UOQ, Paul, top DX on Wednesday.
I, (G4CJC) worked a couple of EAs on SSB and a
Polish and an Italian station on PSK31. I have also discovered that HRD + DM780 can do split on PSK31.

I missed a 9J2 because I couldn’t work out how to do split frequency. And I just couldn’t get a TK7 (Corsica) with a complete call though he had mine complete. HRD + DM780 can do Slow Scan. Worked CT5JAK on 10m SSTV!
Steve, M0STC, got a few in this past week. Saturday he worked SQ6NDL 5/9 (PSK31) and EA4GGY 5/5 (PSK31). Sunday IW8PQU 3/3 (PSK31), DL7GN 5/9 (PSK31), UR5WCA 5/5 (PSK31), SP7FFY 5/9 (PSK31), 5B4AHY 5/5 (PSK31), SQ8KEZ -10 (JT65) and OZ5AGQ -16 (JT65) and he heard 4X6TU (beacon) and 9J2CA 5/5 (PSK31) (the one I missed)

He comments: “The NCDXF beacon 4X6TU was clearly audible in the morning so I was hoping there would be Middle East stations about, but nothing doing. I might have been able to contact the 9J2 - if only I had a rotator !! (I'll be asking for one for my birthday in November.)”
Arie, 9W2VVH worked JA6ETS 55/55 & JA2NVM 31/55 on Tuesday.
He sends in this report.
“Tuesday Aug 14, 2013 - Managed to wkd 2 stn from JA after almost 2 month no opening at my side! By the way, I want to sharing our FB group "My10Mg" photos during 1st Malaysia Amateur Radio Conference on July 6, 2013.

Nice to hear from you again Arie.
Also Tuesday Pedro, CT5JZX, worked F5SAR 5/9 and G0AZE 5/9.
“I'm on the air on maritime mobile 10 meter band SSB since June 20, 2013 until August 20, 2013.”
Ok now we will all look out for you.

Sun: Half a dozen sun spot clusters with a couple possibly looking as though they might flare.

The Perseid meteor shower is well underway. Monday night, international observers counted more than 120 meteors per hour from dark sky sites. Sky watchers should remain alert for Perseids during the dark hours between midnight and sunrise as Earth passes through the debris stream of parent comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle.

And we now lead Australia 3 – 0 in the Ashes series (cricket). This means we have now won them outright instead of just retaining them. Superb victory on the 4 th day of 5 for England.

Stoke City start the soccer season away at Liverpool. Fun on a stick.
