TONY'S 10 METRE BAND REPORT - September 26, 2013

20:39 Fernando Luiz de Souza 0 Comments

Not too bad a week with PJ2/DL8OBQ (Curacao) most popular in the early part of the week and XZ1Z (Myanmar (Burma) the rest of the week.
The weekend was particularly good I had to increase the contacts required to 5 to get into the list.
Saturday I managed to work 4Z5OP and LU5VV on PSK31, 9K2OD and ZS3Y on SSB. Monday D2QR/qrp, G8NDL and EA8ATE on PSK31 and LU3CM on PSK63. But I’ve not had too much time for radio what with doing jobs for the daughter and jobs at home. I hope to buy a Cobwebb antenna, I just can’t quite commit to it yet. It’s not so much the antenna as how to get it up high.
Dave, VK5MRD sends news of a happy event.
“Sorry for my absence. I have been extremely busy with work commitments and family commitments, there just does not seem to be enough hours in the day or days in the week!
Fantastic news, my wife gave birth on Friday to a beautiful baby girl, my second harmonic! Mum and Bubs are recovering in Hospital but are doing well. It has been a long 9 months and a challenging pregnancy.
I have had to pack up my HF gear to make way for our new arrival, no need to say how much I am missing HF esp 10m. But as you know family comes first. I still use the VK5 10m FM repeater on 29.620MHz and frequent the VHF/UHF bands in my work vehicle or at home. I will still be around from time to time whilst visiting the QTH's of some of my mates (also hams) I hope to venture back on to 10m where I can. On a lighter note maybe I might be able now to catch up on some QSL cards that have piled up Hi Hi!
Hope all is well your way mate? Please check out my Youtube channel, where I have uploaded a few recent QSOs mainly from 10m.” Congrats on the new harmonic. Things are just fine here, we hope to be in Oz again in the new year just in time for the Sydney Ashes Test!
Steve, M0STC managed to hear just one station, today, on CW J28NC 5/9.
You sure that antenna of yours is connected?
9W2DTR, Dexter ,(yes, I can see the callsign and the name connection) worked SV2FLM 5/7 and VU3DMP 5/7. He says, “SV2FLM is my first DX contact on 10m after getting my license 7 years ago and installed my homebrewed 3 element short boom yagi. This was very good and a proof to myself that my antenna is not a dummy load. On the second day, 21st Sept 2013,between 14:30 - 14:30 UTC, I've work TB5ZND 4/5, IT9ZEO 5/5 and IT9STG 5/6.”
Good stuff. Dexter, let us have some more info about the home brew antenna.
Amzari, 9W2GEO , has sent in a report, the first of many I hope. He worked: Friday(20/Sept) 09:50 BX2ADQ 59 59, Saturday (21/Sept) 10:16 YO4RIU 59 59, 10:31 4U1GSC 59 59, Sunday (22/Sept) 10:55 DU2BOQ 59 59 and Monday (23/Sept) 9W2PDT 59 59. He says,
“Hi Tony, this is the 1st time I give my 10m report to you, I got to work with 5 stations last week.”

Excellent, new reports are always welcome. Let me know what equipment you are using.
Monday, Zaki, 9M2ZAK worked JA9APM 599 and heard JA2IGY/B 599.
9W2VVH Arie reports, “Friday 20/9/13 - Short opening mostly to EU from West Malaysia. Managed to work 15 stns - I5KAP, F4WBN, CT2HTM, IK6HMF, I0SSW, I5QNJ, EA3AXZ, TB5ZND, YO5OVM, IT9OEO, IZ5LDD, YO6DDF, IS0HQJ & BX2ADQ. Friday I worked RA6FN, UA6XY & YE1NZ. Heard SP9KR & 9W2MZY. Wednesday I managed QSO with 2 stns - HA6NF and LZ1QI. Heard HS5NMF and EA8OB” Malaysia does seem to active on Ten Metres.

Sun: Just 5 small sun spots and with none actively flaring, solar activity is low.
Comet ISON is now close enough for amateur astronomers to photograph through backyard telescopes. The comet is not as bright as forecasters expected, but experts say it is still on track to become an impressive sungrazing comet later this year.

Stoke City played well, passed the ball, had loads of possession, plenty of chances but still lost (3 – 1) to Arsenal. We lack a dead cert, bang on striker. Norwich on Sunday at the Brit, we could do with a good win.
