TONY'S 10 METRE BAND REPORT - October 24, 2013

October 24, 2013

This was a seriously good week for 10m.

I had to increase the limit for stations worked from three to ten to get into the list.
There was some serious DX about fairly easy to work, but also there were the inevitable pile ups. We’re not used to this in recent years on Ten Metres.
TN2MS (Congo DXpedition) was prominent as was C82DX (Mozambique), TO2TT (Mayotte), and FO4BM (French Polynesia).
Thursday Mike, 2E0YYY, worked a shed load:
7X2JV 5/5, UR6IIU 5/9, N9JTA 5/9, KI4PS 5/9, N8YSZ 5/9, WA3HIC 5/9, KB3VHB 5/7, N9GQ/VE3 5/7, KC2ZFC 5/7, AA8WQ 5/9, N3MMW 5/9, K1KDK 5/9, KD2BBC 5/9, RK3QY 5/9, KC2KNK 5/9, K2LCK 5/9, UY3IR 5/9, KC3ABT 5/9, KJ4RPY 5/6, KE4AIH 5/8, KD4LMU 5/9, KR4AE 5/7, NZ5E 5/7, W4NRM 5/6, AB3SD 5/7, UA6AMO 5/9, KB9UGI 5/9, RX6AM 5/7, KC5NOA 5/7, KC2ZGW 5/9, N1MGA 5/9, VE3UUH 5/9, KK4GGJ 5/5, KD8UQY 5/8, PU5NBX 5/8, PU2YYP 5/9, WX0Z 5/9, PY1OAR 5/9, YY4DNN 5/9, OA6Q 5/8, PY4WDX 5/9, N6PAT 5/9, W2WKD 5/9, N4UP 5/9, KN3X 5/9, N8GEI 5/9, NI3K 5/9, KC4TVZ 5/7, LU5DH 5/7, KC2YJV 5/8, KA9JCP 5/9, K2GSJ 5/9, WP4NQR 5/8, JW9JKA 5/9, KW4TT 5/7, K1CB 5/8, LU4JI 5/3, WA8EQP 5/9, KA3HQS 5/7 and KG4WV 5/9.
“With not too much time for radio last week, it was time for a bit of catching up. Thursday afternoon found the 10m band in good shape, with plenty of DX to be worked. There was little problem working many of the stations QRP 5 Watts. Nice to get Hans OA6Q in Peru, Daniel YY4DNN in Venezuela and the very last call of the day, Bill KG4WV from Guantanamo Bay into the log.”
Friday an even bigger shed!
RX3DN 5/9, UT7GF 5/8, SV1GSW 5/9, R2DU 5/9, UA3G 5/9, 9H5G 5/9, UT2GT 5/9, LZ1SJ 5/9, UR7EN 5/9, YO9IF 5/9, UB3DEN 5/9, UA3RDO 5/7, TA3DJ 5/7, UR5ADG 5/7, IW8TLQ 5/8, PP5JAK 5/9, N3VUK 5/8, UA6MY 5/9, PY3JDV 5/9, KC1AKY/AG 5/7, UA3UUF 5/9, UR4MJB 5/9, WX9Z 5/7, RA3GKR 5/7, KB2OZH 5/9, W2WKD 5/9, K2MIJ 5/9, UT7MK 5/9, UV5EVW 5/7, KA1T 5/9, VE2DJC 5/9, CN20S 5/9, MM0TXT 4/1, KB1ZHU 4/1, N2LMJ 5/9, YY3AJO 5/9, LU7DXZ 5/9, CX6DZ 5/6, K1WVU 5/9, LU7DP 5/9, RN3QQT 5/7, W2YK 5/2, K2VF 5/9, W3ECK 5/9, YY4DNN 5/9, 8R1Z 5/9, PJ2/K8LEE 5/9, UX7ID 5/9, KD2BBC 5/9, VE3AXW 5/9, HZ1SM 5/6, PY2VI 5/9, LU1JHD 5/9, N8NFJ 5/9, K4DET 5/9, KC9WDV 5/9, KB2SLU 5/9, KB3VHB/M 5/8, KB8VGX 5/9, NO2V 5/9, KC2PES 5/9, KD8RKA 5/9, KC5BBP 5/5, CT3FT 5/9, K3ZMJ 5/9, KE4YOG 5/7, N4JG 5/4, LW5DW 5/3, 2E1GSN 5/6, PY4CR 5/9, WA9ASZ 5/7, KC9LDO 5/9, M0USV 5/9, GB2COS 5/9, AE1P5/9, K8GIM 5/9, CE3YG 5/7 , WP4AZT 5/9, W8CZN 5/7, WP4AZT5/9 and AC5O 5/9.
“Hi Tony, Imagine my bitter disappointment when my Friday afternoon work appointment was cancelled, leaving me free to play on the 10m band instead! After switching the rig on and taking a quick look around, I could see the band was well and truly open. Once again there was plenty of DX to be found with Wayne PJ2/K8LEE, on Curacao, arguably the best of it for me. Other nice contacts were Guyana, Venezuela, Peru, Uruguay, plus plenty of North America calls. How long this is going to last is anyone's guess. Lets hope it's for a good while yet.”
Yes, it is quite unbelievable. And with a contest this coming weekend we could well reach new heights.

I (G4CJC) managed to work UN9LW, YY5FRD, YY4DNN, W1EHQ, CK3NOO, 9H1EJ, UT3IB, RN3KL, US0QV, RA6LR, UT5EY, RU3EJ, GB2GP, PY2VA, RN6DZ, UA6LUQ, K3RA and TA4/G4IJD. Mostly on Sunday (I was at the Stoke City match on Saturday) mostly on PSK31. The YY stations (Venezuela) were worked on SSB and PSK31. I have yet to work VK with the new radio.

Mike, KK2DOG worked CO6LC 5/9, M0BJL 5/9, G3ZQH 5/8 and EA8AM 5/9 on Saturday. “Nice opening from across the pond.”
But why only 4 worked Mike?

Shankar, A65CR , is back! Saturday he worked, S52NR, YB0NDT, 5B4AHY, OZ6TW, T6RH, RW6YY, SK0HS/0, UK8ZC, 9M2IDJ, G0TSM, IK3HIK/3, UA6UCW, F5BBD, 3B8BAE, RA3QPT, R100MFF, VU2RBI, 9W2HWR, OD5NH, C82DX, 9W6ZIM, RA7T, UT7LW, UK8OCT, PD2BA, DK4MD, VU2JE, 9W2VVH, 9W2SBD, VU2DSI, TO2TT, R7GV, EA2DNY, VU2DSI, M0BJL, VK6BP, YB8SI/0 and OZ9DCN. In his own words,
“Back on 10m after many months! This time with new radio TS590S & Buddipole on the balcony. Met some 10m familiar call signs and also some special DX- TO2TT, T6RH, R100MFF. All with 50W
!”
Now that is some effort.

Arie, 9W2VVH , has this to say,
“Worked HB9S 53/57. The only one JOTA stn that 9M4CSB (op by me...) wkd on 10m are HB9S -the amateur radio station of the World Scout Bureau, the headquarters of the World Organisation Of the Scout Movement (WOSM). HB9S operated by Yves HB9AOF. Very happy to wk HB9S for the second time. The 1st contact to HB9S last 2 yrs but on 20m. Here are the photo of 9M4CSB in the HB9S log.”
 Wednesday he worked DO9OM, HB9BTI, DL2VBN, CT2HTM, RK6A, Z33Z, PA9RD, PB7XYL, UT7QL, M0DAZ, DF3VW, PE1LJS, DL6IP, R3NA, UY1IP, RL3AN, IZ5TLE, EA2AFR, G4ATA, GM3UCI, UA3ERD & PA0DOM. But I think he was most delighted with, “Thursday Oct 17 - wkd twin surfix "DX" = AC6DX and KH7DX. Friday Oct 18, 2013 - Once agn wkd twin callsign - double letter in suffix = JE3SSL and JQ6DDO.”
Nice ones Arie. And here is a log excerpt to prove it.
Nazmi, 9W2GSG , worked DU2XXA 5/9, JL8LOC/M 5/9, JI1IXW 5/9, ZL2CS 5/8, H44MS 5/5 and ZL3CHE 5/8 on Wednesday. Then on Monday, JE1RXJ 5/9, VK2BVS 5/8, UR4MKY 5/9, DL4UNY 5/9, OH2BAD 5/9, Thursday G3PCG 5/5, DH1PAL 5/4, DF3TE 5/5, R9XM 5/9, VU2XO 5/9, UR3CTB 5/8, 9W2NMX 5/4 and Saturday DU1KA 5/9, KH7DX 5/9, JA2XLV 5/9 and NH6I 5/6.

Sun: Sunspot AR1875 poses a growing threat for X-class solar flares. Although there are another 5 clusters AR1875 is the biggest.

Stoke City were lucky to get a draw last Saturday against West Brom. Begovic, our goalie was the star. Again we missed chances but it was not the same side that ran all over Fulham (but still lost). ManU away this weekend. A miracle is needed or for Van Persie to have an off day and score an own goal!
