TONY'S 10 METRE BAND REPORT- 28 November, 2013

00:50 Fernando Luiz de Souza 0 Comments

Not much opportunity to get on the radio this past week, lots of family stuff to do.
As you’d expect it was a bumper weekend for the CW contest but during the week wasn’t bad. To keep the pages to a reasonable size I raised the entry point to10 during the week and 15 at the weekend.
Needless to say there was more DX than you could shake a stick at.
One oddity shows up during the week and not at the weekend, there were many less spotting stations than those transmitting. I’ve not noticed such a marked difference before. Anyone with any possible explanation please let me know.
Popular DX XZ1J (Myanmar), XR0ZR (Juan Fernandez Is), Z81X (not ZX81, remember those?) (South Sudan) and ZD8X (Ascension Is).
Hard-working spotters W3LPL, XE2B and W4QO.

Judging by the lack of reports people are still recovering from the contest.
Last Wednesday Steven 2E0NHR worked A61AS 5/9, YO4RIU 5/9 and UY1IP 5/7. He comments, “Don’t think 10 meters is as good as a couple of weeks ago. I even managed an AM QSO on 29MHz”
Are you sure, that’s usually the F.M. region. I haven’t heard A.M. in ages. Then Thursday he worked RA3EA 5/9, PY2LED 5/9 and K3RA 5/9.

Sun : All the current talk is about comet ISON (why the upper case?)
What happens if a solar storm hits comet ISON? On Nov. 28th, Comet ISON will swoop through the sun's atmosphere little more than a million kilometres above the sun's fiery surface. What might happen if, at that moment, Comet ISON gets hit by a solar storm? Experts discuss the answer in today's story from Science@NASA.

Sunspots AR1904 and AR1905 have 'beta-gamma' magnetic fields that harbor energy for M-class solar flares. Neither sunspot, however, is facing Earth nor actively flaring. (spaceweather.com)

Stoke City duly beat Sunderland 2 – 0 with a controversial sending off (red card) of a Sunderland player. Next weekend Everton away.
