TONY'S 10 METRE BAND REPORT - 5 November, 2013

5 November, 2013

This issue of my Ten Metre column is out earlier than normal as I have to fly to Shanghai for family reasons. I will not be able to include any reports sent after Monday, so apologies in advance. I will try to include any unused reports in next week's issue.
A pretty good week all round, not quite up to last weekend’s record but still good. Lots of DX about JT50SSB (Mongolia), OX3XR (Greenland), SU9AF (Egypt), 5J0F (San Andres Island) and XR0YY (Easter Island) to mention but a few. I even managed to work the OX but not the SU.

9M2ZAK, Zaki
 , Had a good few days. On CW, Friday JH1EQH/2 599, JA4XW 599, HL3EHK 599, W6QUV 599, KB5RZ 599, KA6U 599, K7NTW 599, JA3IER 599, W7GTF 599, BD7RS 599, JA2HXV 599, JE2CAI 599, JA1WRI 599, BD8SZ 599, JN3ONX 599, JA7DDK and JA1NIR 599.

Hafizi, 9W2TZW, worked a few on Sunday on SSB, despite a few problems. VR2XMC 5/9, JA1FCC 5/9, JA3PJL 5/9, BD7JPX 5/9, VR2YDC 5/9 , VY3DJQ 5/9. And heard 9W2MZY 5/7.
“Hi Tony, its been a week since my delta loop "passed away"..well that didn’t mean I had to quit the hobby..but it gave me new strength to wake up ! Finally, I could build my own homebrew 3 element yagi full size with the help from my "cw guru and supporter", 9M2AVB. The new antenna works great and has performed very well... all contacted stations loud and clear. No offence, but I hope to conquer the 10m world with this antenna. Thanks Tony. Have a good day and good DX 73.”
Yes I too have been antenna constructing and testing but that will have to wait for a few weeks now.

Monday G3ZPF David heard
“Signals from all over. Not heard 10m like this since the late 70's. Weird sigs on 10m today, Monday. 2 second bursts of rough tone. One of 3 diff AF freqs, all over the band. Weird thing is if you turn the tuning knob the pitch does not alter. Wondered if an internal prob with new rig, but...talking with K1WHS it’s a worldwide phenomenon. 30 kHz wide sigs, which are actually a 'comb' transmission. That explains why the audio tone doesn’t alter as you turn the tuning knob. Anybody got a clue as to what it is? Ionosondes? OTH radar?”
I heard it but I’ve no idea what it is.

Afiq, 9W2AHU , worked a few on Sunday: A92HK 5/9, LZ1QI 5/5, IZ1NDZ 5/5 QRM, F6DHI 5/4,F4EZJ 5/5, D3AA 5/7, SP2XF 5/7, IS0BSR/IMO 5/9, ER4DX 5/9 , 5H3JJ/QRP 5/7 and he heard CT3MD 5/4. He says
“Hi. Tony, How are you? I hope you and the family very well. On the Saturday, I was very lucky to collect 6 new DXCC calls around 0700 - 0945hrs. Many other stations I heard and tried to check in but did not succeed, brazil (3), Madeira Island (1), Russia (2). (MY10G - Nothing Is Impossible) some group of Malaysia DXers.
I never check if I’m anywhere near to an award. Must do. I think HRD will do it for me

9W2GSG, Nasmi worked JF1QQK 5/9, P29FR 5/9, PP2BIL 5/9, PY4YZ 5/7, PT7MM 5/7, PY2VI 5/5, PU1KGG 5/8, PR7AA 5/7, JM3ROY 5/9, AD6PB 5/7, K6CUA 5/6, KJ6YXI 5/5, VK8GM 5/9, JA9DTV 5/7, BG7YH 5/9, JA5OVF 5/9 and JH8BOE 5/7 on Sunday and on Monday TG9ANF 5/9, JR3WJX 5/9, JH0EOS 5/8, JH1MRF 5/9, PY4LA 5/7, JQ6QNQ 5/9, JH1BKL 5/7, JH1ESB 5/9, JA1WQD 5/9, ZS5JY 5/9, ZS6MAR 5/9, ZS5SF 5/8, FR4OX 5/9, PU5IKE 5/9, PU2RIO 5/9, PY1TV 5/9, PU2WSQ 5/9, 9W2SBD 5/5, PT2ZXR 5/9, ZS1OK 5/9 and ZS3AAK 5 on Monday.

Sun: Big sunspot AR1890 has a 'beta-gamma' magnetic field that harbours energy for M-class solar flares. So far, however, this new sunspot is quiet. There are six other clusters.

Stoke managed a draw against Southampton. Our goal keeper Asmir Begovic scored a goal within 15 seconds of the start!! Most unusual and odd with the help of the wind. It was a poor game with neither side really playing well. Swansea away next Sunday.
