and to optimise the propagation of transmissions to target areas.
(via Nigel Holmes, March ARDXC ADXN magazine via dxld March 5)

?? We thought Nigel was no longer frequency manager for R. Australia;
or does he still get info from them? These involve some major changes
in frequencies good for NoAM, which had lasted season after season,
i.e. losing 21740, 19000 but not until March 30, presumably. Maybe
9850 will be better for us in northern summer than 7240 kHz.

BANGLADESH/CHINA/KOREA Rep.

Good strength signal from 1742 UTC with Interval Signal, now news on
13580, though co-channel VoA in Somali causing interference (scheduled
until 1800 UTC). When did Bangladesh Betar switch to 13580 - I noticed
Jonathan Kempster logged it on 21st February (no language specified)? at
1815 UTC.

This evening Bangladesh Betar have switched again, to 13860 (ex 13580) for
their European Overseas service. Maybe they heard the MP3 I sent with a
report on Sunday for 13580;-) Currently with Bengali service (1930 UTC),
scheduled to 2000 UTC I think.
(Alan Pennington-UK, BrDXC-UK ng March 09/11)

Bangladesh Betar in Bengali at 1925 UT tune-in on 11 March now on
13860 kHz with excellent signal (ex 13580 kHz - ex 7250kHz).

BANGLADESH 15505 March 13 at 1357 UT, Bangladesh Betar ~1 kHz tone, no
IS until after 1359 UT, VP signal but enough to copy the timesignal ending
8.5 seconds before 1400 UT, theme and opening Urdu.

BTW, the new frequency for English at 1745-1900 UT, 13580 kHz, reported
March 9 was gone by the next day, which explains why I heard zero on it
March 11, but then, BB was found by Alan Roe, UK on 13860 instead. Maybe
they'll stay on that clear frequency?

NBA registers a bunch of wooden frequencies each season, and wb found both
13580 and 13860 kHz on the A-14 season roster for 1730-2000 UT; others on
the list which they might try are: 6170, 7250, 9550, 11915, 11995, 13700,
15505, 15745 kHz.
(Glenn Hauser-OK-USA, dxld Mar 13)

Bangladesh Betar. Heard signing-on in English with a good signal on new

13860 on March 13 at 1742 UT, JBA carrier with tone, presumed BB on new
frequency for English service; 1743.5 UT trace of IS, no timesignal
audible circa 1745 UT. This is ex-7250 kHz, altho on March 9 it started on
13580 kHz for one day, found March 11 by Alan Roe on 13860 kHz; so it has
stayed there for at least a few more days.
(Glenn Hauser-OK-USA, dxld March 13)

Today 14 March, Bangladesh Betar are back on 13580 kHz in English - found
at 1805 UT with their Voice of Islam segment in progress.

CUBA [and non] Confusion reigns at RHC, but that's nothing new; only
exacerbated by the imposition of daylight-shifting by Yanqui Imperialism
(ha ha, the Cubans certainly didn't have to go along with it on exact same
schedule as USA; in fact, it's rather pointless in the tropix with less
variation in sunrise/sunset times).

In last report I found that on first day of DST, March 9, RHC had moved
its Spanish morning schedule one UT hour earlier to end at 1500 UT (and
presumably start at 1100). Based on behavior in previous DST seasons, I
was also expecting the 20-21 UT first English broadcast of the day on
11760 kHz to shift to 19-20 UT but nothing there at 1905 UT. Not rechecked
until 1937 UT, and *now* it's on with mailbag, so off to a late start
clueless RadioCuba operator may have needed reminding to turn the
transmitter on an hour earlier by UT even tho it's same local clock time
as before. Got with it on March 10 recheck, 11760 kHz already going at
1902 UT, but more daytime absorption. Off the air after 2000 UT since
there's no French now until 2200 instead of 2100 UT which used to follow
English, // 11880 kHz.

Further chex on March 9: European service is still on 13680 kHz, at
1940 UT in French; carrier was on way early circa 1910 UT. After 2000 UT
in Portuguese too as before. Presumably 2030 UT Arabic, unchecked.

Did not check around 2100 UT, but assumed 13680 kHz and other frequencies
would be on an hour earlier instead of from 2200. This did cause 'En
Contacto', the DX program to show up at its summer timing of 2244.5
instead of 2340v, as heard best on 13680 kHz, also on 11840 kHz VG level
but undermodulated; 9810 kHz poor, 9710 kHz fair. So despite missing its
Sunday morning airing which should have been at 1335 UT, show still
exists, with this edition being #10 for 2014y: only two birthdays to
celebrate, then clip of R. Mil XEOY/XEOI; rerun of perennial Ruben
Guillermo Margenet 'Efemerides' this week in radio history, starting with
PCJ being heard in Saba on 11-12 March 1927.

Tuning in 13680 kHz a bit earlier, at 2240 UT the Filatelia show was
running another quiz; 2243 UT RHC self-promotion with a clip of Fidel
about the inauguration of SWBC back on 1961y, and then multi-lingual IDs,
including two incomprehensible ones, ergo *still* not only Quechua, but
also Guarani which was deleted years ago.

Next day March 10 checked at 2102 UT, and confirmed 13680, 11840
undermodulated, 9810 very poor, 9710 kHz poor, all on the air by this hour
now; 5040 kHz could also be on this early but inaudible. It is audible by
2212, poor in high noise level, Spanish.

13780  on March 10 at 2217 UT, RHC VG in Spanish, but not // 13680 kHz;
then found 13780 // weak 6000 kHz, so those are the separate 'Mesa
Redonda' TV simulcast, starting as early as 2200 UT now.

The African service during standard-time season had been on 11880 kHz at
2100 French, 2130 Portuguese, 2200-2300 UT English. You might assume any
change for summer would be one UT hour earlier, but like last summer,
these have moved an hour *later*: March 9 at 2230 UT confirmed opening
Portuguese, noting that the music is not distorted but the speech is, and
it's running about 6 seconds behind another PP playout on 15230 kHz (which
as heard March 10 at 2215 UT has additional Portuguese in the previous
semihour, also undermodulated; prepeat?). First talking about Amerigo
Vespucci, presumably another day-in-history item. And English confirmed
now from 2300 UT and // 5040 kHz which is just becoming audible. However,
next day March 10 at 2214 UT, 11880 kHz is missing, and no replacement
found anywhere on 11 thru 17 MHz bands. Meant to check whether it was on
by 2300 UT for English, but missed it.

March 9 being Sunday, I also check 15370 kHz at 2235 UT, and find
Esperanto is still running then, but undermodulated, crackled and
distorted, and with some understation, per Aoki KSDA in Chinese during
this hour to its northwest. Not surprising, as at this time, KSDA is a
regular with 'Wavescan' on clear 15320 kHz, at 2236 UT check.

5040 kHz on March 10 at 0552 UTHC English service with music // 6000,
6060, 6100, 6165 kHz, but 5040 goes to dead air by 0600 UT, and off by
0602 UT, while the 4 x 6 MHz overkills resume another hour of English
with IS.

9850 kHz on March 10 at 1247 UT, RHC Spanish modulation is cutting out;
wiggle that patchcord. This frequency about to go off, but at 1304 check
of 19m, the new frequency first heard yesterday, 15370 kHz is gone again,
and instead back on 13780 kHz, as well as 15340 kHz mixing with HCJB. So
was 15370 kHz a mistake (on their roster for tarde services), or an
experiment by self-styled propagation expert Arnie Coro? +Que sera? +Quien
sabe?

17730 on March 10 at 1403 UT and later, today's AWOL frequency, while
17580 kHz is on; not sure whether I was hearing 17730 an hour earlier.
At 1405 UT on 15230 kHz has fair signal but JBM.

EQUADOR/GERMANY Voz Andes German Service for America Latina. Just heard
an announcement on HCJB Weenermoor (3995 kHz) that the German Service for
listeners in South America will stopp its Nauen relay (9835 kHz at 2300-
2330 UT)) at the end of June. Costs are too high and reception quality is
too low.

They are now looking into the possibility of broadcasting the service
directly from Quito again on 6050 kHz and ask listeners in South America
to send in reception reports for that channel. Some of their listeners in
South America are living in remote areas and shortwave is the only way for
HCJB to reach them.

GERMANY AFN Sender Stuttgart Hirschlanden 1143 kHz ceased service for
ever.
1143 kHz 10 kW, MBR outlet of AFN Stuttgart Hirschlanden ceased.

MW-Standort verschwinden.

Failure by NDR info on medium wave the NDR medium wave transmitter Hamburg
Moorfleet currently due to a damage of the cable fails. The program of NDR
info is affected special, which, among other, transfers selected
parliamentary debates. About DAB+, on the Internet on NDR.de, as well as

is still unclear when the problems on the medium wave transmitter will be
eliminated. The failure relates to the metropolitan area of Hamburg, as
well as parts of Schleswig-Holstein, Lower Saxony and Mecklenburg-Western
Pomerania. The reason for the failure is damage to an underground cable
that connects the transmitter unit to the mast. The damaged part of the
cable is located under one of several meters thick layer of gravel.
Extensive earthworks are required for the preparation of repair.

March 12/13, 2014, is a very important day for PCJ Radio International.

It was on this date that after an absence of 14 years The Happy Station
Show returned to the airwaves. A few months after that happened PCJ added
other programs to it's schedule. For our 5 year anniversary we will
present a special program looking back at the past 5 years and revisit
some of the fun moments over the last 1825 days. It should be mentioned
that this is not a Happy Station Show. But rather a special anniversary
program.

As your aware March 12, 2014 PCJ Radio International will be celebrating
it's 5th anniversary. Here is the final schedule:

Full schedule on Wednesday 12 March is now:
1330-1430 Africa/ME/SoAS 15720 kHz (Madagascar)
1330-1430 NoEaAsia 9335 kHz (Trincomalee)
1330-1430 Europe 5995 kHz (Nauen)
1330-1430 Europe NE/ME 15455 kHz (Trincomalee)

0130-0230 [March 13]North America 7730 kHz (Okeechobee FL USA)
ALL TIMES UTC. POWER 100 kW and 125 kW

Re: PCJ R Int 5th Anniversary broadcast Wed 12 March

A 5th frequency has been added for our special anniversary broadcast on
March 12th. The site we are using is the ex Radio Netherlands relay on
Madagascar now called MGLOB. The frequency is 15720 kHz from 1330 to
1430 UT. It will cover English speaking African countries. We just
updated the website so pass it along. I'm sure it will be audible in
other places as well.

For our special March 12, 2014 we will have a special QSL.

If you would like to send us a recorded message to use in the show please
contact us no later than March 7, 2014 with your phone number and we can
call you back or you can also send us an MP3 file up to 2 minutes. The

Re: PCJ special on March 12/13.
Victor, could you clarify the QSL situation for these PCJ broadcasts? Am I
correct that QSLs would be available from PCJ itself; and from WRMI (in
the case of broadcasts via Okeechobee); and also from you? Are you
verifying Trinco transmissions only, or all? And what would be the e-mail
or postal addresses for reports to you? Tnx, OM.
(Jerry Berg-MA-USA, DXplorer March 8)

Of course a special QSL is being done!!!
(Victor 4S7VK to Jerry Berg-MA-USA, DXplorer March 8)

PCJ 5th anniversary special.

Checking the channels at 1330 UT Mar 12, only 15720MDG UT is useable. I
would give it a SINPO 3 5 5 3 2-3; it was improving for a while but now it
has deteriorated a bit. There is a signal on 15455[TRM], but not enough
audio to work with. I think there is something on 9335[TRM], but very
weak.

And of course nothing on 5995NAU kHz from Europe at this hour. When
15720MDG opened, they gave this ID:

"This is PCJ Radio International broadcasting to Africa from 1330 to 1430
UT on 15720 kHz; from MGlob, Madagascar." MGlob is the "new" operating
company of the former-RNederlands xmtrs. I assume the "MGlob" ID is used
generally on xmsns from the Madagascar site, but this is the first time I
have heard it.

15720MDG kHz went off at 1428* UT, by which time the signal had declined
to poor and you couldn't make out much of what was being said. 15455TRM
kHz was just audible by then, poorer than 15720MDG kHz, but it continued
on to
1430* UT.
(Jerry Berg-MA-USA, DXplorer March 12)

7730 March 12 at 0125-0140 UT, NO signal from WRMI for publicized PCJ
Radio International special fifth anniversary broadcast. All the publicity
said it would be at this date and time, followed by 1330-1430 UT March 12
on four other frequencies from three other sites; but Jeff White and Keith
Perron soon confirm the correct UT date for the 0130-0230 UT special is
really tomorrow, March 13 Wednesday night in North America. At 1330 UT, we
might also get 15720 kHz from Madagascar (recently heard at 1430 UT with
NHK Hindi way off-beam), or even 15455 kHz from Germany[sic Trincomalee
Sri Lanka instead?]; also on 5995 kHz from Nauen Germany and 9335 kHz from
Trincomalee Sri Lanka.

the transmitter. Back on now on 6245 kHz (our planned new SW home if it
proves OK over the next few days) Power still at 75w but we plan an
increase for next weekend if all goes to plan."

re: Horizon FM 6245 kHz.
Mike, re 6245.003 kHz maritime radio band pirate intruder, at 0945 UT
March 10 do you know the un-licensed Pirate anorak stn relay location in
Ireland?

Re poor 75 watt power,
even now on deep morning/noon time seen/heard only in SDR remote net at
few posts in England like Manchester-Liverpool, and Ipswich posts, latter
S=6 signal at G3XVL post. 500-700 kilometers distance from Ireland.

Very weak in Belgium, some 1000 kilometers away.
Nothing heard in Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Greece.

Probably virtual produced and operated by 'Andy' like Andrew Yeates and
Jelena Sevcenko in East Grinstead, West Sussex U.K., used two PC pre-
recording files and fed also to Irish pirate relay station outlet on
weekends.

I'll never understand why this small tiny shortwave outlet is a must
prestigious project in the ANORAK scene, so accordingly expect the effort
will make everything make it appear the program is "legal" and "factual",
so look at the F_B page.

OFCOM England U.K. would do much sharper action in a non-license crimes
matter.

Even 6245 kHz frequency selection is MIDST ON MARITIME RADIO BAND.
But the Irish authorities are determined as much negligent on such crime?

May you have contact to Baldock (IMS) OFFCOM monitoring finding station
staff and may ask them on azimuth measurement towards Ireland ?

UNKNOWN SITE Cambodian clandestine on 17860 kHz identified.

Note the two unIDs I mentioned on WOR #1712:
7530 at 2100-2130 with something in Chinese, presumably clandestine;
I couldn't hear it, but Wolfgang Bueschel did. And:

17860 at 1130-1200 UT, Wolfgang also could hear this one, and listening to
his recording, it's definitely in Cambodian. David Kernick then reported
after its March 14 broadcast:

The Cambodian clandestine heard by Wolfgang Bueschel on 17860 kHz at
1130-1200 UT March 7 was the Voice of Khmer M'Chas Srok - website here:
<http://www.khmer-mchas-srok.org/index.php?lang=en>

Last 5 minutes observed today with fair reception on that frequency, off
air after closing announcements at 1200 UT. The website includes a web
radio claimed to be on 24/7 hrs/d, and details of this SW broadcast.
(David Kernick-UK, intervalsignals.net online, dxld March 14)

CLANDESTINE Two new clandestine broadcasts are on the air.
{probably via TAC-UZB?, heard for first time on March 7, clandestines
heard on 17860 kHz Khmer on March 7th, and 7530 kHz Chinese on March
7th/8th already by wb}

Voice of Khmer M'Chas Srok:
1130-1200 17860 secret / hidden site to EaAS Khmer, 35533 on March 14

UNIDentified station:
2100-2130 7530 secret / hidden site to EaAS Chinese, 45444 on March 13

Thanks of Glenn Hauser and Wolfgang Bueschel for this info in WOR#1712.
Thanks of David Kernick, which determine the name of Cambodian station.
(Ivo Ivanov-BUL, via wwdxc BC-DX TopNews March 14)

Website partly in English says it started Feb 14, and who are they?

Definition of Khmer M'Chas Srok.

1 - "Khmer M'Chas Srok" means the sovereign Khmer people included the
contemporary Khmer as well as our compatriots disappeared since
generations, all Khmers who basically remain attached to their
civilization, to their traditions and to their religion.

2 - The "Khmer M'Chas Srok" gathers all Khmers who consider Cambodia their
motherland and are determined to safeguard it, means to defend Cambodia's
territory and all resources within it that is underneath the ground, on
the ground, on the firm land and in the water.

3- Le "Khmer M'Chas Srok" unites all Khmers who want to make the Khmer
society a modern and developed society, in which people live in harmony,
in an ideal of equality, with the intention of establishing sustainable
peace and stability within and outside Cambodia."

I don't find any contact info or clew as to whence this originate, and
transmitter sites for both remain unknown.

UNKNOWN SITE [BULGARIA/FRANCE] 15180 New shortwave broadcast in Somali.

The website of transmitter brokers Alyx & Yeyi (formerly TDP) lists a new

15180 kHz. This is not necessarily aimed at Somalia itself of course,
possibly [also?] for Somali-speaking region of Ethiopia. No website for
this broadcast found, although there is a Somali news website called
Hillaac.Net (note slightly different spelling).

Re: WRNO back on 7505 kHz.
March 14 (UT), WRNO also heard here in California on about 7506.57 kHz.
Not much different from the last time I heard them on Feb 24, on 7506.60
kHz. Today first noted them at 0057 UT with religious songs and preaching;
final check at 0248 UT, still on the air; heard several IDs; announced
frequency as usual as 7505 kHz; overall was fair.

USA HRI "DXing with Cumbre", and Pirating with end.

I am writing to comment on the report some of you have read in dxld. Glenn
Hauser is correct. This weekend's "DXing with Cumbre" program will be the
last show. I have had huge work responsibilities since the departure my
station's program director a year ago, and things are not letting up.

There has not been time to do a show every week, and this is why.
Something has to give, and my boss at WCNY-FM has also been worried about
my being overworked. Something has to go so that I don't go, and so I am
giving up Cumbre. I love radio, but the radio that I do as my profession
has to come first, and I'm sure that you and others will understand.

The Cumbre DX Facebook group and DXing with Cumbre Yahoo group will
continue. I thank all of you for your participation over the years. As
mentioned in my reply to Sudipta Ghose on F_B, this group will remain open
for all of you, since it and the Cumbre DX F_B group are the successors to
the former Cumbre DX, which came long before the radio program. Again, my
thanks to all of you, and I hope you will stay with this group and stay in
touch with me. I am not giving up radio, which is my profession; I just
have to give up the Cumbre program. 73 and 88 to you all.

USA/DENMARK 5850 and 7455 kHz from RMI Okeechobee-FL:

Next check at 0646 UT March 5, VG on 7455 kHz playing gospel rock, with
RTTY still audible, crushed underneath. Unknown if runs all the way to
1100 UT, and whether TruNews hours repeat further, but after DST is in
effect, may stop at 1000 UT instead.

7455 kHz operations also apply to // 5850 kHz. Ivo Ivanov thinx the
azimuths are 355 on 5850 kHz and 285 on 7455 kHz; and points out that
5850 kHz is co-channel to R. Farda until 0300 UT, not a problem here,
via Kuwait.

He also says there is RTTY on both new WRMI frequencies, but none heard
here on 5850 kHz. As of 1600 UT March 5, these *still* have not been added
to the WRMI graphic frequency schedule. Expect a major overhaul, anyway
due to the arrival of DST March 9.

Today - March 6th - at 0730+UT WRMI was totally covered if using 5850 kHz
by a strong, and regular, Stanag type digital signal co-channel.
And 7455 kHz was only just about traceable underneath a strong (and
regular at this time) RTTY.

ITU monitoring shows on their lists

5850 kHz STANAG #4285 G1D mode, 2400 Baud,
originate located - probably - between Haslev and Copenhagen, Denmark.
Digital data block covers 5848.5 to 5851.6 kHz today.

At 1215 UT March 6th, S=9+15dB in Stockholm, Sweden,
S=9+20dB signal in Hamburg, Germany.

Seemingly Danish marine/NATO service ?
5850 logged always also at least in past decade now ?
Probably Anker knows more ?

Re: Danish Marine Service on 5850 kHz.
But RMI main azimuth is towards Edmonton, Chicago, Vancouver and LA ?
from 23 Dec:

5850 2200-1100 4,9 YFR 100 355degrees #805 Eng USA RMI FCC
and NOT to NATO target near Little Mermaid Copenhagen :-)

Re: Danish Marine Service on 5850 kHz.
WRMI is now using 5850 and 7455 at 23-11 UT.

Dear DX-friends,
With the help from our utility expert Bent Nielsen, I am pretty sure, that
the transmitter, Noel and Wolfgang heard on 5850 kHz, is from Stevnsfort
(the former Stevns Fortress during the Cold War).

It is located at the coastline east of Haslev Denmark and build into the
cliff with an excellent view towards all ships approaching from the Baltic
Sea. Stevnsfort is now a "Cold War museum", which I visited last August
together with Kaj Bredahl Jorgensen.

But I noted, that there still are some shortwave antennas, so this may be
the OVG relay in accordance to STANAG (Standard NATO Agreement) No. 4285
dealing with Characteristics of 1200/2400/3600 bit/s single tone MODEMs
for HF radio links. No doubt used for contact with Danish marine vessals
in the Baltic Sea.
