April 24, 2014

Sometimes you just wonder what’s going on. It seemed like Ten was drifting back to the old days of a dead band or sparse weedy signals. Then suddenly (usually at the weekend) it springs back into life.
This week had it’s ups and downs but Friday through to Saturday were actually really lively. Not that I worked too much, I was at the Sky TV Studio for a live footy broadcast.
I worked SV5BYP, HZ14WARD, EA8URT, RW6A, TC47A, UR4QX, TC10SWAV, 4X1IM and ZS1CBT. I also heard ZS6CS, D3AA, V51B, 4Z1JS, VU2UUU, 4L8A on Friday and Datta, VU2DSI on Monday.

Earth is passing through a stream of debris from ancient Comet Thatcher, source of the annual Lyrid meteor shower. So far this year's shower is trending toward the usual--that is, mild--but surprises are possible. Forecasters expect the shower to peak on April 22nd between the hours of 10:00 UT and 21:00 UT. Stoke City worked at a creditable draw 1 – 1 against Cardiff away. This coming weekend it is Tottenham Hotspurs at the Brit. I’ll be there
