ALBANIA/TURKEY Spur 'intermodulations' from Cerrik Albania relay site.

Since many years, since TX site refurbishing action of China in 2004, the
150 kW powerhouse transmitter in Cerrik Albania produce spurious signals
in 25 mb in our European mornings, at 0700-0857 UT time slot, always an
intermodulation of both 11785 and 11855 kHz, some 70 kHz distance signals
apart.

This morning noted also again a bad mixture on 11925.0 CRI English sce
(of 11785), and TRT Emirler oddity on 11925.023 kHz.

The symmetrical spur of the 11855 CRI Chinese service noted on otherwise
clear 11715 kHz channel between 0700 and 0800 UT too, Febr 13.

Les Trembles Sidi Hamadouche 549 kHz 600kW Harris transmitter of spring

Bel Abbes, yes, that would be a good shortwave location, directly at the
lake side, south of the MW mast Sidi Hamadouche. That would give an
amplifying signal propagation. Whether that ever comes to realize again,
may be doubted.

It is rare that the Algerians set a station like Tipaza for one year
still, and renovate the facility and equip it with a new hardware and
software.

As was equal in Les Trembles, Sidi Hamadouche 549 kHz, and in Ain Beida
531 kHz equal a new antenna and a TX house built some 9 km away southerly,
when the new 600 kW were delivered HARRIS stations in January / March of
2010. As you can build in peace, without intermediate solutions and
preventive measures in case the construction area meet with close to
airports must.

Ourgla was for 25 km outside of LW (near future in SW) planned.

Les Trembles Sidi Hamadouche retains only two plants, from the early days.
The end of the colonial period in the 60ties and 70's years i.e. MW of
1965 year, and the extension improvement of the antenna system in the late
80s and early '90ties. That looks also beautiful with the two built here
TX houses. But on ITU frequency registration - also inactive - I see no
further 2nd frequency planning at Sidi Hamadouche site.

See report of January 2010 by inauguration item:

<http://www.tda.dz/fr/article2/station_radiodiffusion_OM?t=station_radiodiffusion_OM>

The new Medium Wave power 600 kW broadcasting station Central Rahal Zoheir
Site Sidi Hamadouche (W. Sidi Bel Abbes) was officially start the lundi 25
January 2010 by Mr. MIHOUBI Secretary of State to the Prime Minister in
charge of Communication in the presence of Mr. Wali Sidi Bel Abbes and
General Director of TDA and EPRS.

The station replaces the old existing on the same site. This important
achievement is part of the project "Construction of two (02) Medium Wave
broadcasting stations in Ain Beida and Sidi Bel Abbes" to renew the two
main radio stations broadcasting the CHI program Amplitude Modulation and
covering essentially the both East and West regions of Algeria.

As a reminder, this renewal project involves the replacement of equipment
of 600 kW broadcast stations in operation since 1965 in both East and West
regions. Since the earthcake in 90s, these stations have become very old
and outdated and no longer emit at reduced power due to the degradation of
their characteristics.

Drive two tracks from suppliers
1 - Les Trembles - Sidi Hamadouche 549 kHz site,
and Ain Beida 531 kHz delivery by Harris US firm, and

2 - Bechar Knadsa 576 kHz site,
and Ouled Fayet 891 kHz but delivered by Transradio Berlin Germany.

Did you already see the new G.E. Tipaza longwave site images, like of Oct.
2014 and January 9, 2015 viewed?

The single longwave mast is now beautiful newly red and white colour
painted, in October 2014 sees beautiful the entire ground network, as if
new copper wire were placed as laid in the earth. Before, there was never
such a G.E. Image sight in Tipaza area region before.

If I have lost count, it looks like 120 Copper metal strip trench ditchs
laid out each 3 degrees direction, of each 360 meters in length on entire
perimeter.

I'm curious when the official inauguration at Tipaza will occur this
spring.

Maybe they let the Transradio Berlin and Ampegon Schifferstadt antenna
establishment firm workers to finish work on both Bechar Knadsa and Ouled
Fayet construction sites ... ?

The Harris transmitters were inaugurated in January and in March of 2010.
You had discovered at that time the official announcement on the TDA
website.

Mehrere
hundert farbige Luftballons steigen in den Bonner Himmel. Sie

MADAGASCAR Madagascar World Voice.
For those of you who may have missed the December announcement, here it is
again. KNLS will soon have a sister station. The document was issued by
the government of Madagascar.

Written in French, it gives World Christian Broadcasting permission to put
new station, Madagascar World Voice (MWV), on the air. The new station's
towers are already built. The new transmitters are on the way, and hope to
have MWV on the air by the middle of 2015. See here

history of Dec 2009:

God's Fingerprints Cover the Broadcasts From Alaska and
the Construction in Madagascar.

The mighty hand of God is working in a wonderful way to use the tool of
World Christian Broadcasting. Every day millions of people are contacted
with messages from the Lord Jesus Christ. World Christian has many
professional, clever and visionary workers. But the progress of the
construction in Madagascar and the continued broadcasting from KNLS in
Alaska can only be attributed to the hand of God.

We have had two 500,000 watt diesel powered generators sitting in a port
in Madagascar for almost one year. They have been released and delivered
to our station and put in place inside the generator building. Their
release can only be explained by involvement by God to make this possible.
This was a major hurdle to clear toward completion of the station and the
beginning of as many as 40 additional hours of programming every day.

The technology of God is so amazing when you think of the great number of
people who can be reached with a message of hope. Websites in all of our
broadcast languages have enabled us to introduce Jesus to an even wider
audience. Over 6,000 pages from our websites are being read everyday by
listeners from all over the world.

Shortwave technology continues to be on the cutting edge and will in the
future open up new opportunities for communication to countless millions
of people. God is truly awesome and remarkable. He leaves fingerprints for
us to see every day.

But hey, I like that "shortwave technology continues to be on the cutting
edge" too bad it is largely destined for depriving countless cultures of
their original religions. This page which linx to above pdf also has some
photos of Madagascar facility, with MWV embossed on one of the walls, its
callsign-go-be, for Madagascar World Voice. And some additional info which
may or may not be new:
(gh, dxld)

The station sending out Madagascar World Voice continues to be built. Our
workers have not missed a day of work and progress is being made.

Three 100,000 watt transmitters have been built, tested and are in Dallas
ready to be shipped out of Houston TX.

Two new 500 kW diesel powered generators are now in place. These
generators are large enough to provide power for all three transmitters,
all three antennas, and all other operations at the site for the
foreseeable future.

The three transmitters are digital ready, which means that from each
antenna 4 simultaneous broadcasts on 4 different frequencies will be
possible in the future as digital receivers become more plentiful. More
people than at any time in history will be able to hear the gospel each
day from 5 antennas.

You have a standing invitation to come to the International Home of World
Christian Broadcasting in Franklin, Tennessee, meet the international
staff and visit the studios where all broadcasting is recorded and then
sent to Anchor Point, Alaska and Station KNLS.

PORTUGAL More charges emerge over Radio Portugal's shortwave closure.

The controversy over the closure of Radio Portugal's International service
nearly four years ago seems to be reemerging.

The listeners' advocate at Portuguese state broadcaster RDP dropped a
bombshell on January 30 when she confirmed that the real reason behind the
government's closure of Radio Portugal's Sao Gabriel shortwave transmitter
site is to sell the land to the private sector.

In her radio program Em Nome do Ouvinte, Paula Cordeiro confirmed the
allegations which have been circulating for years following Radio
Portugal's shortwave sign-off in 2011.

A similar complaint made by her predecessor cost him his own job in 2012
as RDP listeners' advocate, a position which serves as an ombudsman
between radio listeners and the corporation, and is appointed by the board
at Radio e Televisao Portugal.

The latest details of this ongoing flack were published by Spanish
Listeners Association (AER) on its Facebook page February 13, and taken
from a previous post by Joao Costa of Portugal, on the Facebook page of
the O DX Clube Sem Fronteiras, of Brazil.

Apparently, the private sector is interested in the land where the
transmitter towers still stand in Pegoes, east of Lisbon. For years,
however, government officials have reportedly "deceived" the public,
according to RDP broadcast employees and listeners, by giving other
reasons why they were shutting the Sao Gabriel Centro Emissor de Ondas
Curtas (CEOC).

Among the reasons were that RPD shortwave listeners were diminishing
around the world (a claim they failed to back up any audience research
figures); the high costs to maintain the center (which were greatly
exaggerated in the Portuguese parliament); and work for half the
technicians at the site was (even though they had just been hired in
2002).

The Sao Gabriel site was inaugurated in 1954 with two 100 kW transmitters.
Even as recently as 2006, two additional high-tech 300kW antennas were
unveiled by government officials to cover the United States, Canada and
South America.

Cordeiro replaced Mario Figueiredo, whose contract as listener's advocate
was not renewed by the RDP board in 2012. Figueiredo had denounced the
restructuring plan that was taking place at RDP, including the plans to
sell off the historic CEOC in Sao Gabriel.

"Without a doubt I was called on the carpet, mainly because of the
shortwave issue. But I was in a position and obligated to refute the
statements made by the (RTP) president Guilherme Costa," he recalled in an
interview later.

In August 2011, Costa said that maintaining shortwave was "too costly" as
well as it was "an obsolete service."

"Shortwave doesn't have the audience that is use to have, in addition,
those services can be replaced," adding that he had up until then received
190 letters of protest. "More than half of those came by email from people
who can already hear it on the internet."

Possible demolition

As of early 2014, the tower faced demolition by the Russian State
Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting, after having been allowed
to deteriorate for years despite popular calls for its restoration.

Following a concerted campaign calling for the preservation of the tower,
it was announced in September 2014 that Moscow City Council had placed a
preservation order on the tower in order to safeguard it.

EAJ34 COPE-RADIO GIJ+N is on the air. Heard in Aldea del Cano (Cáceres)
past week with local advts. for Gijón. The station closed in Asturias is
EAK91 licensed to Avilés, but moved to Oviedo city in the 90s and
rebranded as COPE-Oviedo [1143 kHz].

EAJ34 RADIO GIJ+N was licensed in 1932 as a private commercial station
and was associated to SER for many years. In the late 80s or early 90s the
parent Company "PROTEMAS" decided not to renew with SER and moved all its
stations to COPE (they have several FM licenses also). That's why it is an
EAJ station in the EAKs network [882 kHz].

USA 17775 on Feb 12 at 1437 UT, zero signal from KVOH, which by now has
normally built up to VG daytime level, more than an hour after sunrise
here, so it's off. Still absent at 1511 and 1532 UT chex. Maybe this means
progress in installing their replacement transmitter.
(Glenn Hauser-OK-USA, dxld Febr 12)

Re 17775 - the transmitter overheated at about 1615 UT on Wednesday, Febr
11, and took itself off the air. We are working on fabricating some
replacement parts, but it was off the air for the remainder of the
broadcast yesterday and is off again today.

There is no impact to our evening broadcasts on 9975, which have just been
extended (now 0000-0600 UT Tue-Sat, 0130-0500 Sun, 0230-0500 Mon). Work on
the 100 kW tx continues, but has been more extensive than we anticipated.
We're still several weeks away from being able to bring that online.
