9 - 10 May 2015

On Saturday and Sunday, 9th/10th May 2015 the Netherlands will be holding a National Windmill and Pumping Station weekend during which many windmills and pumping stations will be open to the public to view. Guides will be in attendance to explain the operation of the machinery and to answer questions.

For many years, in the U.K., the events of this weekend have been shared with amateur radio stations and became known as the ‘Mills on the Air’ weekend. In 2009 Jelle (PD5JFK) and Bernard (PB7Z) decided to set up for the first time their own special radio station to contact mills in Holland and elsewhere in Europe and so advertise the opening of Windmills and Pumping Stations. This proved to be so popular with millers and volunteers alike that they were encouraged to repeat this promotion each year and this year is the 7th year.

This event has proved to be an excellent way to advertise the hobby of amateur radio to the many members of the public who visit the mills and pumping stations. It is not generally realised how distant our amateur radio communications can travel and with experts on hand to explain the operations as they are taking place within the mill.

On this page[ http://www.pd6mill.com/  ] are listed those windmills and pumping stations that will be on air over the weekend of 9/10th May 2015 not only in Holland but in other European countries as well. There will probably be additional ones added. This year for the first time, the special award is being extended to be international in nature and include all radio stations at mills not only in Holland but worldwide.
