Radio Prague now on 9885 kHz via Gavar Armenia.

At 20:08 UT in English, European Heritage Day.
S=9+5dB or -70dBm. In Hungary, Amberg Bavaria and in Belgium.

Interesting would it be to learn how the transmission signal
at Scandinavia Beam arrives in the target ?!

The 25 mb signal on 11845 kHz was somewhat stronger than the 9885 kHz
transmission.

9885 kHz Radio Prague Czech / English, aaah now I see -
send far north at 330 degrees azimuth:
at Mauno in Finland, the signal is quite stronger,
S=9+20db or -54dBm signal strength.

Unfortunately, the Swedes bring no clever remote SDR units in the network,
really shameful for a great DXers nation,
and the stuttering Web connections show absolutely nothing
of commonly executed presence as a media model of Sweden,
compared to poor web speed in Germany.

9405 at 2100-2130 UT over the southern direction antenna toward Spanish
Peninsula with 280degr.

Noted at 2106 UT in Finland Remote Unit S=8 or -83dBm signal.

Spain, Hungary, Switzerland, Belgium and Amberg remote SDR installations
S=9+15dB or -58dBm.

ASCENSION ISL   not bad signals made it northwards even at sidelobe signal
also during downunder deep winter.

Heard three ASC signals in Detroit Michigan remote unit this morning
on 49 meterband in 05-06 UT time slot.

5925 BBC English S=7 signal at S=6-7 or -82dBm,
via 114degr azimuth outlet to zones 52, 53, and 57.

// 5875 kHz - this 65degr azimuth outlets was little lesser strength
in 05-06 UT.

But similar to 5925 kHz BBC,
heard VoA Hausa language service from ASC at 27degr azimuth,
S=8-9 at 0515 UT on Aug 25.

ASCENSION ISL   SPECIAL DRM TRANSMISSION FROM ASCENSION ISLAND -
SUNDAY 28TH AUGUST 2016

DRM will be part of a big anniversary on a small island in the Atlantic
Ocean. On 28th of August at 1155 GMT, Babcock International will ensure a
special BBC digital transmission from the BBC Atlantic Relay station on
21715 kHz, marking the fiftieth anniversary of the BBC's first short-wave
radio broadcast from Ascension Island.

Since 1966, the Atlantic Relay station has broadcast BBC World Service
programmes to Africa and South America, and to this day, continues to
broadcast over 250 programme hours every week to East and West Africa in
English, French, Hausa and Somali.

The two hour-transmission will start with the old, special sound of Bow
Church Bell in east London, the sound of which, even if in DRM this time,
will remind older listeners of the BBC broadcasts of many decades ago. The
2-hour transmission will be the regular BBC programmes for West and South
Africa and will end at 1400.

This special transmission will be sent with greetings from Ascension
Island's BBC and Babcock International staff and visitors, who will be
celebrating half a century of sterling broadcasting on August 28th.

ASCENSION ISL   I caught the very briefest peel of bells in AM-mode
on 21715 kHz at 1155 UT before I could see that the transmission switched
to DRM - however the signal here was minimal and was far and away too low
to ever be decoded.

Re: Special DRM transmission celebrating 50th Anniversary of SW broadcast
from Ascension Island

Noted here in central Europe DRM Block ASC 21715 kHz at 1205 UT,
only S=6 or -87dBm strength.
Sorry, I've no DRM decoding software / unit gear at hand.

Similar AM signal, but easily to understand 21630 kHz in 13 meter band
BBC London French program via ASC relay site.

Also 17640 kHz BBC French from ASC relay site,
but 16mb, S=9+25dB much stronger than 13 mb outlet, noted here.

in 13 mb:

strongest sce is BSKSA Riyadh-ARS 21505.020 kHz S=9+20dB,
RFI TDF ISS 21580 kHz,
IRN 21520 and 21750 kHz,
Brother Stair TOM from RMI Okeechobee USA 21675 kHz.

ausgefuehrten Einbruch. Gestohlen wurden insbesondere alle Senderoehren;

Rundfunkbetrieb in Koenigs Wusterhausen abzuloesen.

<http://www.radioeins.de/programm/sendungen/medienmagazin/radio_news/beitraege/2015/wiederau.html>

INDIA   {SIKKIM}  4835  AIR Gangtok (presumed), 1310-1410 UT on Aug 31.
Second consecutive day of AIR reception here, made possible by the
continued absence of ABC Alice Springs NT; segment of distinctive
subcontinent music/singing 1338-1340 UT, with the remainder of the time
mostly just announcers; 1406 UT seemed to be phone conversation and brief

4835  AIR Gangtok following up on Ron's great catch and heads up of
Gangtok in the absence of ABC, on Sept 1st tuned both Japan and Brisbane
Perseus sites which had all-darkness paths: carrier but no audio from
Brisbane, stronger carrier and only threshold audio from Japan (near
Tokyo). Carrier only from my QTH.

Surprisingly, very nice signal (Fair to Good) from Perseus site in
EaFinland over a largely daylight path with end of a musical piece and man
ancr from 1354 tune to 1355 UT fol by another man ancr to 1406 UT. Back to
vocal/inst music pgm and man ancr at 1406 UT. Com'ls 1416.5 to 1418 UT.
Surprised to hear En pgm at 1430 to 1459 UT with woman ancr intro ("Hello
all you beautiful people out there.this is.Gangtok.today we will be
talking about.") fol by intro inst/vocal music piece. Talk on women's
equality in education and society. Pop vocal/inst music selections in
between talk segments. Back to Vern pgm at 1459.5 UT w/ man ancr and local
inst music. Com'ls at 1512-1515 UT. Intermittent slight CWQRM on 4836 kHz.

Have logged Sikkim from this site before but in the Dec/Jan time frame and
with QRM from ABC. From this site Gangtok was one of the predominant
carrier indications on 60 mb.

Ternate; ending at 1227 UT with patriotic song; after which no longer // ;
1229 UT "Programa Satu RRI Wamena" ID.

1235-1303 UT - with the Thursday only edition of Kang Guru Indonesia
("KGI") in mostly English, but a few short segments in Bahasa Indonesia;
much stronger than normal reception; QRN (static); still tough to make out
a lot of what was said; many KGI IDs; one listener told of collecting "KGI
Magzines" since 2008year; segment "Good neighbors make good friends,"
discussing differences between Australia and Indonesia as to whether to
walk or ride.

Recently it has become clear that a major change was happening at KGI.
Their extensive website was recently drastically downsized. Seemed like
the Indonesia Australia Language Foundation (IALF) was taking over. At the
KGI website, I see that KGI has now completely stopped producing any new
radio programs. The final show was produced back in June. The program
heard today was an earlier production. We can only hope that RRI stations
will continue to recycle these older programs well into the future.

Have listened to these programs going back to when it was Kang Guru Radio
English ("KGRE") and even before that with "Kang Guru II Radio English,"
in 1976year, when Greg Clough was the original "Kaptain Kang Guru." Am sad
that they will no longer have any new shows.
Has been very entertaining listening to them over these past 40 years!

MALAYSIA   Malaysia - Aug 30 "National Day Message".
Last year on Aug 30, I listened to a major speech given by the Malaysian
PM Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak. Some of my audio from last year at
<goo.gl/NB1j1C>  , with some English, but mostly in vernacular.

This year he will again give a "National Day Message" at a gathering at
Merdeka Hall, Putra World Trade Centre, in Kuala Lumpur. This important
event will start at 1300 UT on Aug 30.

Last years coverage was via 6050 (Asyik FM) // 9835 (Sarawak FM)
// 11665 (Wai FM), all via Kajang. This years special broadcast should
also be via the same stations.

Full story at  <goo.gl/mHdS5H>

"He said leaders and public figures would be invited to attend the event
which would start from 9pm. [1300 UT]

Besides being broadcast live on local television as well as radio stations
including Bernama News Channel (BNC) and Bernama Radio, the event would
also be streamed live via the Bernama web, Zulkefli added.

He said the event would start with singing of the national anthem
'Negaraku', video clip display as well as recitation of prayers by
renowned speaker Datuk Kazim Elias...

The National Day Message was among the programmes being drawn up for this
year's National Day celebration ..."

Aug 30 - Yes, the PM did indeed address the nation of Malaysia. Tuned in
at 1311 to hear the speech already in progress on 9835 kHz (Sarawak FM)
// 11665 kHz (Wai FM). Unfortunately 6050 kHz (Asyik FM) had another day
of only strong open carrier (no audio from them, but very faint audio
underneath the carrier from probably Tibet).

Speech mostly in vernacular, with sprinkling of English words ("Global
economy ... global competition ... Moments of Unity") Briefly in English,
per attached audio clip. Speech ended at 1354 UT and stations then no
longer // . News item -  <goo.gl/OnbGP3>

MALAYSIA   6050  Asyik FM, via Kajang, on Aug 26 heard open carrier, which
would be consistent with the signal strength for Asyik FM; at 1146 UT no

sure, but signal was almost all strong open carrier, very weak modulation.

MALTA   999 MW, R Malta. Can be heard regularly on daytime, since distance

Programming is in Maltese with occasional English talk. Several IDs "Radju

all the latest news on exciting market developments. Also on show will be
innovative solutions for multi-standard receivers from Europe and Asia.

With four key events planned throughout the five-day exhibition, anyone
attending any of these events will have an opportunity to enter the DRM
Prize draw and win an Avion DRM digital radio!

The events hosted by key Consortium members will tackle various DRM

sound broadcasting standard and the ingenious receiver solutions being
developed at the moment. Radio is not in decline: on the contrary, it is
entering its maturity phase with confidence. DRM is smart, flexible, and
cost-effective and fits in the new digital multi-platform environment
perfectly.

About DRM Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM) is the universal, openly
standardised digital broadcasting system for all broadcasting frequencies.

The DRM standard comprises two major configurations one intended for
broadcasts on short, medium and long wave up to 30 MHz providing medium to
large coverage areas and low power consumption (called 'DRM30'). The
configuration for the VHF bands above 30 MHz is called 'DRM+', tailored
for local and regional coverage with broadcaster-controlled transmissions.

All DRM configurations share the same audio coding, data and multimedia
services, service linking, multiplexing and signalling schemes. DRM
provides high quality sound combined with a wealth of enhanced features:

Surround Sound, Journaline text information, Slideshow, EPG, and data
services.

The DRM Consortium was awarded by ITU for it outstanding contribution to
the Telecommunications over the past yearsand has signed the EBU Smart
Radio Memorandum that promotes access to free to air radio on all devices.

NIGERIA   [not real, at present]   Rob, - re 6089.97tentat Nigeria,
FRCN Kaduna ...

I've my doubts, according recent fq footprints on 6090v kHz channel in
2016:

Kaduna Nigeria heard last in April 2016 on 6089.857 kHz, on lower side.

ZYE956 Radio Bandeirantes Brazil noted lower side
on range 6089.955 {Aug 27} ... 6089.961 kHz.

But the powerhouse from Anguilla Caribbean on upper sideband 6090.0025
kHz. This tonight 22.54 UT on Aug 27.

And on Aug 29 logged
6089.998 Radio Amhara Amharic Ethiopian tentativelly, heard strong Horn of
Africa mx underneath 6090even fq, latter which was CRI Romanian language

NIGERIA   6089.85 R. Nigeria Kaduna back? yes! (resend with more info)

Just now, 1835 UT on Sept 1st, a relatively weak signal in Twente with
somewhat dull audio/modulation. Would perfectly fit to R. Kaduna. Not
heard for months. Co-channel Amhara National State Radio not heard for
three weeks at least (last week being on holiday and therefore off-
receiver though).

Kaduna IDed at 1844 UT via a polish SDR where it is audible in remarkable
strength! What a difference to Twente. Surprisingly, on my balcony it's
also quite good, though I'm living close to Twente...

Btw.: VoN is back in DRM on 15120 kHz this week, missed for several
weeks also. On the other hand, more Ethiopians are/were missing
tonight (~1830 UT):
R. Oromiya on 6030 kHz and R. Ethiopia 7235v kHz.
(Thorsten Hallmann-D, hcdx Sept 1)

NIGERIA   Yes, right Radio Nigeria Kaduna is on air in 6090 kHz channel
again, was off at least since April 2016 or so.

Thanks to the tip of Thorsten of yesterday:

6089.853 kHz exact measured Kaduna Hausa sce today at 1710 UT on Sept 2nd.

the only single radio signal on this channel in 1700-1730 UT slot.

In Germany fair S=8 or -81dBm,

on S=9+20dB or up to -54dBm proper powerful signal.

Today on Sept 2 at 1505 UT:
the ONLY radio stn observed on Madrid Spain, Moscow Russia, Doha Qatar
and Delhi India remote units:

CHINA  CNR2 transmission from Geermu on 6090.0025 kHz exact measured.

PAKISTAN   7265  Azad Kashmir Radio, at 1223-1230 UT on, Aug 30. Very much
appreciate Dave Valko's help in confirming I am hearing AKR, as he was
listening via remote today and heard same type of music (repetitive) as I
was. Nice to have it confirmed AKR does not sign off at 1215* UT, as per
Aoki. Am hearing this much stronger than last year! After 1230 UT is
unusable due to CNR2 signing on with strong signal.

PAPUA NEW GUINEA   3260  NBC Madang, at 1139-1206 UT on Aug 29. A good day

NBC News in Brief" ("Police in East New Britain have arrested and charged
a man with murder following the death of ..."; Australia seized 95
kilograms of cocaine aboard a cruise ship in Sydney harbor; "forecast,"

mountain climbing in that country due to digitally altered fake

PAPUA NEW GUINEA   3325  NBC Bougainville at 0959 UT, M anncr ment of
upcoming NBC nx, brief mx bridge then into EG nx by M. Slowly improving.
Came back and was really nice at 1025 UT w/Pop mx. 1026 UT M in PD w/song

PERU   5025v kHz.
Cuban Radio Rebelde nor ABC NT either, are not on air at present.

Instead noted 5024.916 kHz a S=7 or -81dBm signal in Brisbane and
Washington-WA-US state, most probably Radio Quillabamba Peru, across the
southern Pacific Ocean path, South American mx heard. 1117 UT on Aug 30.

[selected SDR options, span 12.5 kHz RBW 15.3 Hertz]
(wb  df5sx, wwdxc BC-DX TopNews Aug 30)

Re: Radio Rebelde off the air, - for the moment. And ... the weak signal
on 5024.91 cut off at 02:03 Ut, which agrees with Quillabama's schedule.

Not sure why, but I just noticed that Radio Rebelde Cuba, 5025 kHz, is off
the air. I hear a very weak signal, which is on 5024.91 kHz as best I can
measure it Radio Quillabamba PRU ?
(Art Delibert, North Bethesda, MD-USA, dxld Aug 29 / 30)

RUSSIA   7345  Radio Sakha, via Yakutsk, on Aug 29, with open carrier at
0858 UT; audio started 0900 UT with ID and into the news; did not have IS
nor time pips; today clearly this was the higher powered transmitter,
(Ron Howard-CA-USA, wwdxc BC-DX TopNews Aug 29)

SOLOMON ISL   9544.999  Solomon Island BS Honiara, S=8-9 or -73dBm signal
up to -66dBm fluttery noted at 0522 UT on Aug 25. Downunder in remote
Brisbane Australia unit. Phone-in interview about education and
qualification of foreign national workers. Usual schedule 20-08 UT.
[selected SDR options, span 12.5 kHz RBW 15.3 Hertz]
(wb df5sx, wwdxc BC-DX TopNews Aug 25)

SOLOMON ISL   5020  Wantok FM relay via SIBC, at 1312-1330* UT on Aug 26.
Unlike my Aug 24 reception here with no IDs, today no question as to who
was providing the programming; frequent IDs ("This is Wantok FM 96.3 MHz.

Good times, great music" and "The hottest sounds with the hottest DJs,
96.3"; mostly pop songs ("Saturday Night" by the Bay City Rollers, Dierks
Bentley with "Drunk On A Plane," etc.). I love it when they run past their
usual 1200* UT sign off! My local sunrise was at 1334 UT.
(Ron Howard-CA-USA, dxld and hcdx via wwdxc BC-DX TopNews Aug 27)

SOLOMON ISL   5020, SIBC, 1208 UT and subsequent checking through 1238 UT,
Aug 29, heard strong open carrier with no audio at all; by 1312 UT was off
the air. Are they experimenting with a possible new schedule here or what?
(Ron Howard-CA-USA, wwdxc BC-DX TopNews Aug 29)

SOLOMON ISL/VANUATU/PNG-not   On Aug 31 at 1940 UT heard on 5020 kHz exact
even fq, Solomon Isl BC Honiara S=9+10dB or -62dBm signal in downunder
Brisbane unit.

At 1946 UT on Aug 31
7259.959  Radio Vanuatu observed at S=9 and -74dBm but much fluttery,
also heard downunder at Brisbane Queensland Australia unit.
Heard a month ago also 'thin signal' on 3944.205 kHz at VERY LOW
MODULATION.

7324v Wantok PNG not heard on air in past months.
(wb  df5sx, wwdxc BC-DX TopNews Aug 31)

SOLOMON ISLANDS  5020, SIBC, 1206-1221 & 1236-1245 UT and still on at 1319
UT, Aug 30. Pop Pacific Islands music and pop song "I Shoot The Sheriff";
PSA; no IDs, so SIBC format (not Wantok FM); almost fair.

Aug 31, 5020 kHz  Wantok FM 96.3 relay via SIBC, 1202 UT on Aug 31. Start
of the relay with pop Pacific Islands songs (C&W song "Mama Likes The
Radio On All Night"); frequent IDs with "96.3" frequency; still on the air
at last check of 1241. Continuing with their extended schedule. Very nice!

Aug 31, checking 9545 kHz for SIBC sign off; random checks 0420-0507 UT
found them clearly off the air; no trace of a carrier.

SOMALIA   [Puntland State of Somalia,
Dowlad Goboleedka Buntlaand ee Soomaaliya,
1880-1941 Italian Empire, Italian East Africa colony;
1941-1949 British Somaliland;
1949-1960 UN, Trust Territory of Somaliland under Italian administration]

13800 H3E mode   Radio Puntland Garowe, heard Aug 25 from SDR sites in
Eastern Finland (clearly the best site) and Netherlands from 1410 UT to
extended 1551* UT.

Signal level from Netherlands was Weak to Fair from 1410 to 1440 UT,
Eastern Finland a stable Good from 1440 to 1510 UT. After 1512 UT,
Netherlands slowly improved from Fair to Good until sign-off. Px seemed to
be a long-running drama with men and women dialoguing interspersed with
HOA vocal/inst music. At 1546 UT, a woman was speaking or singing briefly,
ending with "Radio Puntland" (almost like a pre-recorded annmt). This was
followed by the usual Qur'an reading by a man to 1550 UT. Carrier stayed
on until 1551* UT.
(Bruce W. Churchill-CA-USA, DXplorer Aug 27)

SOMALIA   13800  Puntland R. at 1246-1250 UT continuous Koran-like
chanting by M, but not breaks as you'd hear in the Koran recitation. M
w/rhythm singing style at 1250-1301+ UT. Fading by 1255 UT but M still
singing. Really strange that I'd get this as it was almost broadside to
the BOG. (Wed 31 Aug)
(Dave Valko-PA-USA, hcdx Aug 31)

SOUTH AFRICA   7285.021  SenTec Meyerton tx not stable in frequency, hopps
up and down 3 Hertz constantly, already on air early at 0457 UT on Aug 25.
Noted on remote SDR unit at Detroit Michigan.

Scheduled 05-08 UT in Afrikaans, SABC Sonder Grense program from SenTec
site Meyerton. S=9 or -76dBm heard in MI-USA east coast.

VANUATU   3944.2   Radio Vanuatu, Emten Lagoon (presumed), at 1232-1407 UT
on Sunday Aug 14, heard long after usual s/off at 1015* UT, light music
till 1300 UT, when most likely news till 1311 UT. Later checked at 1342 UT
and had possible religious program and religious music(?), but too weak to
be sure, 1401-1407 UT seemed to be news again.

7260   Radio Vanuatu, Emten Lagoon, heard on the second day of their new
extended schedule, 1326-past 1400 UT, Country and Western type songs,
faint, but clear ID for "Radio Vanuatu" at 1331 UT, 1335 to past 1400 UT
seemed like a man being interviewed by a woman with him speaking at
length; poor, but positive is R Vanuatu; QRM from Xinjiang PBS, China.

Also heard at 1237-1302 UT, Aug 17. Looks like their extended broadcasting
of programming is continuing, non-stop light  pop hit songs in English,
mixing with China. Still needs more monitoring to confirm just what the
new schedule is.

7259.96  Radio Vanuatu, at 0917 UT pop mx. Lady DJ at 0924 UT, jingle by
M, then into "Karma Chameleon" by Culture Club. 0929 UT canned anmnt by M,
then one by W, and live lady DJ returned. More mx on 0948 UT recheck, 0953
UT jingle by M, then same lady DJ w/ment of "tomorrow night", 0955 UT
sounded like an ID jingle by M, and back to mx. Better at 1035 UT w/speech
in lcl PD w/ment of "people" and "500". Signal seemed strong enough but
modulation was low. (Wed 31 Aug)
