I have observed from my base and mobile listening posts that Radio Symban
- inactive on 2368.5 kHz for an extended period - is also inactive on
their frequency in the Australian VHF NAS band on 151.675 MHz in the
Sydney area. A quick check on Tunein and their website shows their online
stream is inaccessible.

151.675 MHz has been off the air for at least the last 2 weeks. In related
news, Radio Symban's shortwave antennas were removed from a roof near
their studios several months ago and will not likely return as there is a
new block of apartments being constructed a few doors down. If they ever
return to HF, they will have to choose yet another site for their

Has anyone got any contact with anyone at the station?

In news related to other stations previously on shortwave but currently on
the VHF NAS band, Radio Le Manamea Samoa (who also broadcast on 2368.5 kHz
for a short period of time) are still active on 151.475 and 151.650 MHz
from studios in Moorebank (south-western Sydney). However, it is unclear
where the transmitters are located for each of these frequencies as the
licencing information on the ACMA website does not seem to correspond with
signal levels obtained in the vicinity of Moorebank. 151.650 is still
licensed under Angelo Matsoukas, who is also the licensee for Radio

re ABC axes Northern Territory HF Service - Alice Springs, Tennant Creek,
and Katherine.

(Sept 12). Nothing was heard at 2145 UT. But three outlets have been noted
around 2325 UT. So they may have been switched on after 2300 UT. Noted are
4835 kHz Alice Springs, 4910 kHz Tennant Creek and 5025 kHz Katherine. All
are weak signals here, which is normal given that it is 9:25 am local now.

4835 kHz is the strongest here (as always). So, I suspect we will probably
hear 2325 and 2485 kHz this evening.

I noted the switchover from daytime to nighttime frequencies last night
{Sept 13 / 14}. The service is scheduled to change daily at 0830 UT.
At 0829 UT, the Tennant Creek switch was made from 4910 to 2325 kHz.
At 0832 UT, the Katherine switch from 5025 to 2485 kHz. Good reception
was noted from both the 120mb outlets.

How long this service continues remains to be seen.

We can expect that the required ABC budget cuts may see this outback
service come under increasing pressure to be abandoned. It is, however,
still used by remote listeners within the interior of the country, and by
travellers who tour through the outback.

CUBA RADIOCUBA 2016 transmitter lists.

Hi friends,

RadioCuba has recently launched its web site. The most interesting thing
is that they have included the data about the transmitters networks in the
island. Lists of transmitters operating on MW, SW, FM and TV can be found
on it.

But they are presented in a bit unconfortable way as all is based in
interactive maps where you need to click site per site to obtain
frequencies and stations operating from each one.

I have extracted the relevant data from these maps and I have composed
PDFs with the transmitters listsby provinces and by frequencies.

I have also included the respective provincial maps where you can see the
aproximated situation of every tx. site.

I have retouched some MW maps with information directly received from
RadioCuba. Both lists can be downloaded from my blog:

Die vor 10 Jahren installierten chinesischen Made in BBEF Beijing Sender

ERITREA Eritrea (and Ethiopia) on 7175 kHz

Right now I am listening on 7175 kHz a well modulated, almost monster
signal from VOBM Eritrea on 7175 kHz exact via the Twente SDR. From my
previous listenings in May 2015, broadcast should start at 03.00 UT but
just minutes before 03 UT there was a signal on 7175.0 kHz, no modulation,
just empty carrier and turning on and off (just like last year, VOBME
seems to have still unreliable transmitter issues).

Checked again at 03.11 UT and it was a well modulated signal, S=9+10dB,
much better depth and power than Fana 6110 kHz and Amhara 6090 kHz.
Funny enough, Dimtsi Woyane Tigrai was not on 5950 kHz, so I suspect that
transmitter is being used on other matters.

At 03.32 UT, a male announcer in seemingly Tigrinya gave way to a small
speech in which I could ascertain the words "Eritra" and "Oromo", and then
a white noise covered the signal, making it quite hard to notice any
sensible audio.

Eritrea is executing some sort of radio psyop over the airwaves?
If you have been aware about recent events in Ethiopia reported in media
outlets, there seems to be a silent upheaval in various areas of that
country, particularly the Oromo ethnic state, as well as the Amhara state
(in much less force).

I assume Ethiopia's NISS seems to be jamming the Oromo language or any
Oromo related broadcasts over Eritrea airwaves. Anyways, funny that in
these times of dwindling SW outlets, we are still witnessing a crass usage
of radio spectrum.

INDONESIA (History 1996)

Minister inaugurates nine new SW transmitters.
Information Minister today [14th Sept, 1996]
inaugurated new RRI [Radio Republic of Indonesia shortwave] txs
in Banta Sunggu, Gowa District, South Sulawesi
{and at Cimanggis too, wb.}.

The minister has said that the government is making efforts to ward off
inaccurate reports about Indonesia in the overseas foreign media. One of
the ways to achieve this is to build RRI txs to reach all levels of
society in every part of the country. The British governm and Marconi have
provided assistance for the construction of nine new RRI txs. Five txs
have been installed in Banta Sunngu, South Sulawesi, while the four other
250-kW txs are located at the RRI complex in Cimanggis [near Jakarta].

Latest news from RRI Jakarta:

11885 before 0100-0800
15125 2300-0800
15150 2230-1500+

All frequencies loud and clear in Ujung Pandang, apart from some QRM
sometimes; thus these QRG's are not some regional RRI outlets relaying
Jakarta, these are at least 100 kW transmitters, only 9680 is a bit
weaker. In the English language newspaper so far is no mention of any new
or expanded RRI facility. This expansion is however well timed to come
just before the National Day on August 17th.
(fax from Gerhard Werdin-INS in Ujung Pandang, Sulawesi,
via van Arnhem dswci DX Window, Aug 11, 1996)

Ujung Padang, Bonto Sunggu Jeneparto site in Sulawesi,
also erected new Marconi England TXs and towers,
were defunct even after a half year in use in tropical area zone
end of 1996.

Back in Summer 1996, when they were installing the Bonto Sunggu site in
South Sulawesi, I was in Ujung Pandang (now Makassar) for some months,
thus also monitored the test transmissions.

In addition to the External Service on 9525 kHz they had at certain times
of the day up to eight frequencies carrying RRI Jakarta Programa Nasional
simultaneously (from all sites), plus the old tropical band txm on
4777 kHz !

Later in the year the test transmissions evolved into a regular schedule,
they even had two National Programmes, ID'ing as RRI Indonesia programa
satu and dua respectively.

What happened to all five of the Bonto Sunggu transmitters?
I don't see them listed nor mentioned anywhere ?
Have they in the relatively short period of 15 years all broken down due
to neglect and lack of maintenace ?

It's hardly possible that half a dozen txms are so worn out that they
cannot even be used as spares !

11885 kHz was at least a decade "traditional" VoINS Ujung Padang,
Sulawesi frequency, from 1996 via new Marconi transmitters at
INS Ujung Padang Bonto Sunggu Jeneparto Sulawesi; of 1996 at 6 masts,
visible at
05 16 14.15 S 119 25 29.44 E

Never worked proper on Sulawesi jungle though ...

The TDP listing shows the following at Jakarta Cimanggis:

A series of 50 / 100 kW transmitters installed between 1950-1974 and now
believed withdrawn from service.

Then there are these

3X100kW Harris of 1982
1X250kW THO of 1983 (ordered/or in service)
4X250kW MAR of 1992
4X250kW MAR of 1996

5X250kW MAR of 1996 (ordered.or in service) at Bontosongu, Sulawesi
1X250kW THO of 1983 (ordered/or in service) at Padang Cermin, Sumatra

As far as I'm aware, 9680 is regularly on air with a domestic RRI
programme, but now the 9525/6 transmitter is short of spares. So what
happened to all of the other transmitters?
Were they installed at all - and which of them is used on 9525/6?

Maybe all the cannibalising that can be done to keep it on air is why
there is only one transmitter left for the FS?

NETHERLANDS IBC Show Amsterdam IBC Annual Exhibition in Sept. 2016
cost-effective DRM to a flying start - Rebirth of DRM.

New receivers, transmitters and deployments highlighted.
By Doug Irwin, CPBE AMD DRB.

DRM - Digital Radio Mondiale says the organization got off to a flying
start at this year's IBC Show, which annually attracts over 150,000
visitors from over 160 countries.

DRM's first event was hosted by consortium member GatesAir.

They unveiled their DRM+ G4 Exgine card offering a quick DRM digital
upgrade solution for their range of Flexiva FM transmitters, developed in
association with another leading DRM Consortium member RFmondial.

During this same event, two new DRM receivers, including the first DRM+
receiver were displayed to the public.

New consortium member, Gospell Digital Technology presented the GR-216
which works in DRM30, AM and FM stereo.

The other receiver unveiled was the PantronX Titus II, an SDR/android
tablet solution for DRM and analog, being in effect both a DRM+ and a
multi-standard receiver.

These new radios demonstrate the growing interest from receiver
manufacturers in producing DRM capable solutions.

On day 2 two of IBC Digital Radio Mondiale members announced new
transmitter deployments.

Thomson Broadcast in their event emphasized the return
on investment and cost-effective
nature of investing in DRM transmitters.

Key representatives of RRI, the public broadcaster in Indonesia, and
WECODEC, a non-profit organization serving disadvantaged communities in
South Africa, enriched the event with their understanding of DRM benefits
for their own countries.

In the afternoon, Nautel hosted their now traditional Saturday DRM event.

Among the highlights this year was the announcement that in Europe,
Antenna Hungaria (the national network operator in Hungary) recently*
placed an order for a 2 Mw DRM MW transmitter.

The Nautel representative in India also announced that All India Radio had
demonstrated further confidence in the company and ordered another 6 six
DRM-capable transmitters to supplement the existing thirty-five DRM
transmitters currently delivering the largest* digital radio project in
the world.

PERU 5980 kHz, Sept 2 at 0015 UT, JBA carrier, so R. Chaski is back on,
and enough S6 signal at 0057 UT to hear some music modulation, but after a
quick check of VOV/WHRI, 5980 kHz is already off circa 0059 UT! So their
slippery autotimer has indeed been reset way earlier; and now will resume
sliding about 6.5 seconds later per 24 hours until another reset.

5980 kHz, Sept 3 at 0051 UT, JBA carrier from R. Chaski, and this time I
stay with it from 0058 UT to catch exactly when it cut off: 0058:38* UT
following the latest reset. It will keep regressing to 0105 UT or so by
~6.5 seconds per night until another reset. At that rate, it will take
12 or 13 days just to reach 0100:00* UT.

6173.9 kHz, on Sept 2 at 0100 UT, JBA carrier is surely R. Tawantinsuyo on
its signature off-frequency, in the absence of anything on 6175 kHz such
as Woofferton, WHRI or VOV as it claims.

POLAND Abgang bei Polskie Radio.

Eine russische Mitarbeiterin des Auslandsdienstes von Polskie Radio,
Mascha Makarowa, hat den Sender am 22. Juli verlassen.

In einem "offenen Brief" prangert sie die dortigen Entwicklungen in
scharfer Form an.

RUSSIA RTRS sent to the state examination of project documentation for
the construction of radio and television transmitting station with a
210-meter TV tower in Vladikavkaz, Caucasus.

The total estimated cost of the project is about 500 million rubles. The
station will be built at its own expense RTRS. Management of the Republic
of North Ossetia-Alania assisted in the allocation of land for the
construction of a new communication object, and the administration of
Vladikavkaz is ready to participate in the improvement of the adjacent
territory. The object is planned to be commissioned in 2018. The new tower
will replace the existing radio tower, which is physically and morally
outdated. The station will provide television and radio signals in digital
and analog formats for more than 80% of the population of the region.

"The new tower will optimally combine functionality and aesthetics.
Instead of carrying the vertical belts used in typical projects it planned
to apply skew. Thus, the load is distributed evenly, and this design looks
sleeker. Openwork "lace" and bright lights will make the construction of
the decoration of the republic's capital. The architectural appearance of
the tower agreed with the Government of the Republic and the
administration of Vladikavkaz, "- said General Director of RTRS Andrew

Acting head of North Ossetia Vyacheslav Bitarov noted that the agreement
between the Republic and the RTRS carried out on time and in full. "Radio
and Television broadcasting station - is not just a new technical
opportunities for the country. The old tower is still one of the most
recognizable symbols of Vladikavkaz, and the new to become a worthy
replacement. We are talking about an interesting and bright architectural
solution. As promised the experts, the object will last at least half a
century. But most importantly, the station has resulted in improved signal
quality and significantly expand the coverage area of ??broadcasting, and
hence the audience. In addition, in the future it will allow us to develop
the new technologies ", - he stressed the head of the republic.

By the end of year RTRS plans to hold a tender procedures for choosing a
contractor for the construction of technical buildings, television towers
and pipelines.

SIBC 31mband Frequency Varying.

SIBC 9545 kHz has been missing lately so I was pleased to hear them again

Firstly at 0148 UT on Sept 16 when the frequency was measured at 9545.146
kHz, the at 0455 UT recheck they were on 9545.620 kHz but the frequency
was still wandering - up to 9545.700 kHz within a minute.

Re: [HCDX] [dxld] SIBC 31m Frequency Varying.
Thanks Bryan, - now at 11.18 UT on Sept 16 noted SIBC in 60 meterband
outlet on 5020 kHz nearly even frequency, but minus 1 Hertz on lower side,
as observed in past weeks already.

Maybe SIBC did a test with the older reserve transmitter unit
on 31 meterband ?

Reception taken on remote Perseus SDR unit at Brisbane Australia.

SPAIN StreetView Re-visits:
RNE Noblejas.
Some areas of the world are lucky enough to receive several revisits with
the Google Streetview cars, whilst other particular areas haven't received
a re-run since 2007/2008, e.g. parts of Australia & USA.

Resolution of StreetView imagery is now much better than it was in the
early 2007 / 2008 period and one SW site than has now received six (6)
visits by the Google Streetviews cars is Noblejas, Spain. It received its
most recent StreetView imagery update in Sept 2015, but due to lighting,
the best imagery is that of July 2012.

As for satellite imagery, thanks to Worldview's sharper 0.3m/pixel
satellite imagery, we now have available some much improved resolution
imagery. Noblejas received some sharp 23/June/2016 imagery. With another
Worldview satellite due to launch this month, there'll be an increased
rate of sharper images to come. Enjoy

THAILAND Re my BBC on new 5810 kHz, Wolfgang Bueschel points out that
altho HFCC doesn't show it, latest Aoki does as having started Sept 9:

5810 * BBC 1200-1400 UT daily English 250kW 25deg Nakhon Sawan THA a16"
* means jammed by the ChiCom, {white noise scratching jamming, wb.}

5810 on Sept 16 at 1249 UT, S6-S8 poor signal, talk with accent but seems
English. See UNID log of yesterday. On theory that it is BBCWS, I check
6195 kHz which is certainly BBCWS via Singapore - or as HFCC still labels
it, 'Kranji (Merlin)'!

And it matches, furthermore, just about synchronized, but 5810 kHz could
still be a different site, such as Nakhon Sawan, Thailand. The current
HFCC page for BBCWS still does not show any entry for 5810! What do they

So it's on 5810 kHz for at least two days in a row, rather than jumping

TURKEY 9870 & 9770 & 9830 kHz, Sept 13 at 0112 UT, Voz de Turquia is
missing from both nominal frequencies and even the frequently used
mistaken one! Can't be propagation, as e.g. 9964.88 kHz Cairo is S9.

5960 kHz, Sept 13 at 0130 UT, as I continue bandscanning, eventually find
S9+5 Spanish here and it is VOT! 5960 kHz is normally employed only in the
B-seasons for English to North America at 2300-2350v kHz, so have they
made unexpected S-season changes, also affecting other broadcasts? Or is
this a double whammy, not only wrong frequency for 0100 Spanish, but wrong
season? Out of the transmitter memory bank, perhaps.

Ending feature 'Costumbres de los Turcos' with music theme bit identical
to opening of program as they always duplicate intros and outros, saving a
lot of produxion work. I can't be sure it's starting or ending until the
next item at 0132 kHz: 'Pregunta del Mes', which I can't copy fully, but
something about someone who 'fallecio', and multiple-choice answers, A, B,
and C. (So with three separate entries during a month, no way not to win,
if you can only understand the choices but you still have to win a draw
after that.) 0134 UT on to vocal music. TRT lux out as 5960 kHz is not
otherwise occupied in this A-season, so in the clear. Now where is the
second one? Never find it, but at 0152 UT, 5960 kHz is already off.

Now I recheck the 31m channels, and in the meantime they have come back
after some op woke up: at 0152 UT, 9770 kHz is poor at S7, and // 9870 kHz
is even poorer at S6, in sign-off mentioning Spanish schedule but I bet
not 5960 kHz! Then into IS playing past 0153 UT.

SDR remote radio access.

I would appreciate if some could post a list of SDRs that can be accessed
