AZERBAIJAN AZE off MW?

This autumn I haven't been able to hear Azerbaijan on either of their
usual frequencies: 801 or 891 kHz. Both have been some tens of Hz above
nominal and rather usual catches here in Finland.

Also the very weak Voice of Azerbaijan transmitter on 1296 kHz has been
missing these months. I'd be glad to be proven wrong, but looks like
another country may be gone from medium wave.

AFGHANISTAN Radio Afghanistan English observed on 6100 kHz shortwave,
online.

David, thanks for that posting. Afghanistan is one of my favourite DX
targets, and I look forward to trying for it from the west coast of North
America. It has been heard hear in past years, and I also remember picking
them up on 41 meters from Maui.
(Walt Salmaniw-Vic-BC-CAN, dxld yg Oct 27)

Radio Afghanistan external service in English was observed on 6100 kHz at
15:30 UT today (26 October 2016) with very poor reception via a WebSDR
remote receiver in Israel.

It had disappeared from there when I checked again at 15:45; not sure if
it had faded out or the transmitter had gone off air. Initially, I
monitored the service via the live stream of Radio Kabul [Radio
Afghanistan's local service for the capital] on the Radio Television
Afghanistan website

<http://rta.org.af>

when it announced 6100 kHz and Radio Kabul's 93.0 MHz frequency. An Urdu
broadcast followed at 16:00 UT, announcing mediumwave and FM frequencies,
but the stream crashed at 16:15 (remains offline as of 17:30 UT) and
nothing was heard on 6100 kHz, so I'm not sure when the programme
finished. Recording (from the web stream) of the opening announcements of
the English & Urdu programmes are on the Interval Signals Online website
at

<www.intervalsignals.net>

Radio Afghanistan English observed on 6100 kHz shortwave.

Fun listening to Afghanistan this morning and into afternoon, English
program from about 1536 UT tune in, male and female announcer with seeming
news or commentary program, music between, then abrupt switch to Urdu
program with ID just past 1600 UT, with male in news, then music through
to carrier off at about 1640 UT. Here's a brief mp3 ... all of this using
Twente SDR, but heard more clearly using the Sweden Kiwi SDR.

ALBANIA Monitoring B-16 season ALR - Shijak broadcasting center.
Valmir, our ex-Director of Stations, called me up twice, today at 11:18 LT
(not heard by me ?), and, after my re-call, again at 14:53 LT,
asking me to extend tonight the shift 2 from 23:00 - 02:00 UT, to control
the broadcast of Radio Tirana 3 in Albanian to North America,
and, - to report him 'live', tonight after midnight, via SMS,
how it is heard this program at our Monitoring Center,
with signal reception, based on ground wave propagation.

Valmir told his request is due to good recent reception reports coming
from Indian Ocean, while many complaints coming from destination North
America...

I mentioned him antenna pattern, and his own earlier reports, that
antennas in Shijak were in bad conditions, and cut by people around ...

Via SMS, I got approval for Valmir's request from my Director,
Henri Mucha, RTSHDrejtor i Njesise Teknike, after my notification via SMS.

Reminder:
One hour back shift in Radio Tirana will occur on 30 October 2016:
01:00 will be back as 00:00 LT, so the Albanian Program to North America
should start at 02:00 UT with old summer time.

Me and my staff cared to accord the studio and Shijak site for this hour
change.

Please, Glenn, Noel and Wolfy, notify Radio Tirana listeners in your blogs
for B-16ALR request schedule via SHI Shijak shortwave bc site.

Thanks a lot, for your useful cooperation.

BROADCASTERS, JAMMERS WREAK HAVOC ON HAM RADIO FREQUENCIES.
Southgate Oct 26, 2016

The ARRL reports the battle in the amateur radio 7 MHz band continues
between Radio Eritrea and Radio Ethiopia, which is said to be jamming
the Eritrean broadcaster with broadband white noise

The problem for radio amateurs is that the battle is taking place in
the 40 meter phone band - 7.145 and 7.175 MHz - with the jamming
signal reported by the IARU Region 1 Monitoring System (IARUMS) to be
20 kHz wide on each channel.

The on-air conflict has been going on for years; Ethiopia constructed
new transmitting sites in 2008 and is said to use two or three of them
for jamming purposes. The interfering signals can be heard in North
America after dark. According to IARUMS Region 1 Coordinator Wolf
Hadel, DK2OM, Radio Eritrea is airing separate programs on each
frequency.

He said in the IARUMS September newsletter that telecommunications
regulators in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland have been informed, so
they could file official complaints.

KURDISTAN
[non; - Armenia, Bulgaria, France, Moldova/Pridnestrovye]
9400, on Oct 30 at 1314 UT, Denge Kurdistane is back on its B-season
frequency, ex-11600 kHz. Unexpectedly good for starters, and surprisingly,
no CCI from FEBC Philippines like last winter, maybe because FE
propagation is so degraded today?

That's still registered at 10-14 UT in Chinese, 100 kW, 330 degr from Iba.
Some ACI from 9395-WRMI kHz. At 1337 UT still good and clear at S=9+10dB;
1358 UT check music, 1403 UT ID and Kurdish talk. By 1440 UT recheck,
declined to S5-S8 but still QRM-free. Ivo Ivanov shows site change at 1400
UT from PRIDNESTROVYE to BULGARIA.

HFCC B-16 shows these sites for some BRB FMO client on 9400 kHz:
04-08 & 12-20 PRIDNESTROVYE. 08-12 ARMENIA. Also something "New" for SPC
Sofia Kostinbrod BULGARIA in "English" at 0200-2359 UT !

This is quite contradicted by Ivo Ivanov's better-informed lineup:

From Oct 30 11600 will be changed to new 9400 as follows

0400-0800 9400 KCH 300 kW 130 deg WeAs Kurdish [PRIDNESTROVYE]
0800-1200 9400 ERV 300 kW 192 deg WeAs Kurdish [ARMENIA]

MALAYSIA 6050 Salam FM, at 1501 UT on Oct 25. Islamic programming
(reciting from the Qur'an, etc.); in vernacular; many singing IDs; 1515 UT
ID with "shortwave" and "FM" frequencies; still on the air at 1530 UT,
which is unusual, as they normally pull the plug shortly after 1500 UT.

Probably stayed on longer than usual due to Asyik FM starting very late
today on 6050 kHz; Asyik not heard at 1040, 1220, 1234, 130, nor 1330 UT
(only Tibet heard). Finally at 1444 UT heard Asyik FM with very good
reception.

BTW - 11665, Wai FM, on Oct 25, still silent.

Quillabamba was giving it a run for its money. Had to tune in LSB to avoid
the het from Rebelde. A bit of noise too, possibly from 5015 kHz. Would
say conditions were poor. Had it be good, I can't imagine what Quillabamba
would've sounded like!!

USA 7780 on Oct 30 at 0629 UT, the PCJ Radio International special,
'From the Archives of Radio Nederland' #4, supposed to be all about Eddie
Startz this month, is NOT airing at scheduled time of 0600-0800 UT
on WRMI 7780 kHz to Europe.

Instead I am hearing some familiar 'World Music' default fill, African
percussion & chanting, 0632 UT on to another tune. Still music at 0701 UT
final check. This is S=9+10dB, but off side of beam as always much weaker
here than BS on 7570 kHz to NW at S=9+50dB, and 7730 kHz to WNW at
S=9+30dB.

I suppose there will be another try to make good a week later. Meanwhile,
will the scheduled repeat to North America, UT Monday Oct 31 at 0100-0300
UT on 7570 kHz, transpire? (frequency which Keith mis-spoke on MN+ at
"7750" kHz).

October 30th & 31st PCJ Radio International presents program four in the
continuing series From The Radio Netherlands Archives.

This month we put the spotlight on Eduard Franz Conradin
(aka Eddy Startz).

Startz was hired as a program maker for Philips Omroep Holland-Indie in
1927. In 1928 he started presenting programs in English, French, and
Spanish. The name Happy Station came from the first words he spoke in
English when he said "This is Philips Radio PCJJ your happy station) on
November 19th, 1928. Hence The Happy Station Show was created.

The program will include some rare clips from his early days with PCJJ,
PCJ and Radio Netherlands. Also part of the program will be a full
80 minute edition of Happy Station by Startz.

Nachrichten der DARC-Bandwacht

Im Spaetsommer und Herbst 2016 haben wir auf unseren Baendern wieder
Hochsaison der Radare. Es handelt sich wie frueher auch um
Ueberhorizontradare - Englisch "Over the Horizon", kurz OTH - mit

Abendstunden in Deutschland hoerbar.
