6100.000 ganz exakt S=9+25dB starkes Signal,

<http://64.37.60.11:9990/;stream.nsv&type=mp3&volume=5&autostart=muted.mp3>

<http://64.37.60.11:9962/;stream.nsv&type=mp3&volume=5&autostart=muted.mp3>

CZECH REP [and others] 1071 kHz, two separate Czech CRO txs on air.

DENMARK Denmark to Add Nationwide Digital Radio Network Capacity.

Copenhagen - Denmark's Radio and Television Board has authorized new
digital radio networks that will come on-air there in October 2017. There
will be capacity for multiple radio stations to have nation-wide access,
according to
<slks.dk>

Digital Radio Teracom A/S, part of the Teracom group, and 100% owned by
Teracom Boxer Group AB, which is itself 100% owned by the Swedish State,
has been given the right to be the "Gatekeeper" of digital radio
transmission in Denmark, with an authority that goes from January of 2017
till December of 2028.

The only other candidate for gatekeeper status was Bauer Digital Media.

"The Board has received two highly qualified applications in its decision
to undertake a global assessment based on the established evaluation
criteria. The assessment was made in favor of Digital Radio Teracom A/S,
which generally performed better on each criterion, especially in the job
as gatekeeper on objective commercial conditions," said Radio and
Television Board Chair Mads Bryde Andersen, quoted in same article.

FRANCE France Inter longwave Allouis 162 kHz close down service
in Jan 1, 2017.

Although the licence for 162 kHz LW from Allouis will be revoked from 1
January 2017, it was announced on air this morning that France Inter
transmissions on that frequency will cease on 26 December 2016.
(David via Mike Terry-UK, BrDXC-UK Dec 21)

LW 2000/1000 kW unit on 162 kHz will keep sce will continued from Dec 27
til Jan 1st 2017, and will bcast a continous information loop annmt to
inform the listeners. French standard frequency and time signal service
will still also keep sce to be will continued in 2017, probably in a
limited 20 to 50 kW power unit data sce transmitter only, in order to
serve the whole France territory.

Usual standard and time signal broadcasts would also work fine in range
between 10 and 50 kW power on a different TX location in France.
look pages 668 - 669 in WRTH 2017. (wb)

FRANCE The time signal will remain on the 162 kHz of France Inter
Wednesday 21 December, 2016

The National Frequency Agency (ANFR) was commissioned by the Government to
maintain the broadcast of the hourly signal after the stop of France Inter
GO in late December. This service is widely used in key sectors of French
industry to synchronize more than 200,000 clocks.

France Inter on Long Wave, broadcasted throughout the metropolitan area on
the frequency 162 kHz from the TDF site of Allouis (Cher), will stop at
the end of December 2016.

Since 1977, the frequency of France Inter transmits also a reference time
signal elaborated from atomic clocks. This signal is inaudible but, when
it is picked up by an appropriate apparatus, it provides French legal
time.

Some public service undertakings, such as SNCF, Enedis or Aeroports de
Paris, but also local authorities, use this signal to synchronize clocks
in public places, information panels, Public lighting or the
synchronization of pay and display machines.

This radio-synchronization service on the 162 kHz frequency provides a
time reference of very high accuracy and reliability. It has the advantage
of being better received in indoor spaces than other time bases, such as
GPS or mobile phone networks.

The Government wished to maintain the broadcasting of these hourly signals
after the termination of France Inter's programs. In this context, it has
mandated ANFR to organize the maintenance of this broadcast as of 1
January 2017. ANFR, in close association with TDF, the CFHM (French
Chamber of Watchmaking and Microtechniques) , And the main users of the
signal, will carry out tests from early 2017 to adjust the broadcast
parameters of the time signal.

new 60-m-Ham Radio Band ab sofort, (fuer Funkamateure Klasse A).

5351.5 to 5366.5 kHz nutzen. (Tom DF5JL)

Danke fuer die Nachricht, Thomas. Die ersten 15 Laender sind bereits
gearbeitet, darunter sogar DP1POL. Nicht schlecht fuer einen zwangs-
angepassten Multiband-Dipol.

Historie.

Lokal koennte ja das AFN Senderprogramm Stuttgart
vom {Adenauer ZDF history} Fernmeldeturm Stuttgart-Frauenkopf 102.3 MHz

F, LUX, BEL, HOL koordinieren

INDIA FM Phase III.

While some demand that the public broadcaster All India Radio should
abandon medium and short wave in favour of FM, the enthusiasm on the side
of the private sector may have gone already. On the 20th day of the e-
auction of 266 FM licences in 92 cities, 44 cities are still to receive
bids for one of the up to four licences. In all the cities bid for so far,
channels are still available. The exception is Muzaffarpur where only one

KUWAIT MW and SW BCast center Kabd - upgrades for 2017.

Ampegon to Update Shortwave Transmitters for Kuwait Radio.

Swiss-based company Ampegon has accepted a contract from Al Rashed to
handle the upgrade of five analog shortwave transmitters that are more
than 20 years old for the Kuwait Ministry of Information in Al Kabd
station.

The five transmitters were originally installed between 1992 and 1995.

Ampegon will refurbish all of the transmitters, and in addition upgrade
three of them to full digital DRM integration and converted to the new
transmitter control system UCS; this will include new motor drives within
the tuning circuits.

Work on the transmitter is expected to start in January 2017.

it's obviously Madagascar as it has that characteristic variable wobbly in

Tune in to very weak signal w/ afro chorus music followed by string

along with what sounded like a carol in local lang. Signal level rising as
I listened but also drifting , 5007.98 to 5007.87 kHz. Despite increase in

type of het on 5008.41 kHz but not a real problem. OM & YL w/announcements

PARAGUAY I was pleased to hear from Adan Mur and the following brings us
up to date. The new site is still unknown but delays gives us more time to
locate the facility.

"Radio Nacional del Paraguay is still finalizing the definitive move to
Chaco-i. Both Transmitter Sites now exist, and RNP has a new 20 kW
transmitter, to be used at Chaco-i, with the new 1/4-Wave Tower, as well
as a new, PCM Radio Link to the Studios. This will facilitate a more
graceful move of the 100 kW transmitter, from Capiata.

There are problems, obviously, associated with such a move. First, and
foremost, have been the number of ferocious storms which have whipped our
region. Just now, the Paraguayan Government is asking for bids on
Insurance Policies, protecting the new Transmitter Site. Chaco-i is an
area exposed to the possibility of severe flooding, as well as other,
storm-related damages. The probability of unfortunate accidents, in the
area of Chaco-i, is very high.

There are also Political Realities, which lessen the urgency of the move,
and allow for a more graceful transition. This is very good. The
Government wishes to make use of the Capiata site for an Industrial Park.
It is a superb location for such a park, with easy access to suppliers and
to customers.

I hope that this information will be useful.

Another station with tower-related problems is 760 AM, Encarnacion. They
received permission to resume operations, but with a directional, two-
tower array. Owing to the cost of property and the second tower, the
station managed to wriggle a temporary authorisation from the CONATEL, for
omnidirectional operation, but with highly vociferous results from other
users of this, and adjacent frequencies. The station will have to abide by
the original, two-tower, directional array plan, or face a sea of
complaints and interventions by the neighboring countries."

There is no doubt that my website will be fully live during January
although I cannot yet tell you a precise date.

SWAZILAND 3240, Dec 23 at 0321 UT, Hallelujahs in unknown language,
S=9+15dB. It's TWR Manzini in Shona daily at 0255-0325 UT per WRTH 2017
where it's under SOUTH AFRICA [non], and followed by Ndau at 0325-0340 UT.
I wonder why so many of their quarter-hour language services start at odd
times :55, :10 or :25 past the hours? Unexpectedly loud signal, and much
more so than 3345 kHz, Channel Africa in English, also reading S=9+15dB
but must be undermodulated. To boot, 3345 kHz runs 100 kW at 5 degrees
from Meyerton AFS, while 3240 kHz emits only 50 kW at 3 degrees from
Manzini SWZ. But Sonder Grense outdoes them both on the meter at S=9+25dB
on 3320 kHz, 100 kW at a more favorable 275 degrees from Meyerton, all per

U.K: BBC Monitoring: MPs raise fears over service's future

What is BBC Monitoring?

 - BBC Monitoring was set up in 1939 to tap into foreign broadcasts and
 propaganda during World War Two

 - The service was independent from the BBC, and paid for by the
Ministry of Defence, the Foreign Office and the BBC World Service

 - Since its inception, it has provided coverage of the Cold War,
the Yugoslav War and most recently, the Arab Spring

 - The service translates communications in 100 languages from 150
countries,
 with offices across the globe

 - In 2013 the service began being paid for by the licence fee.

 - Since 1943, Caversham Park in Berkshire has been the home of
BBC Monitoring but after a ?4m funding cut, the remaining journalists,
academics and translators are to leave the country estate for offices in
 London.

BBC Monitoring: MPs raise fears over service's future. BBC NX - 20 Dec
2016

BBC Monitoring, the UK service that translates and analyses global media,
is in danger of becoming a "hollow shell", MPs have warned.

The government has moved responsibility for its funding to the BBC, which
the Defence Committee said had "entirely predictably" led to cuts.

It added that BBC Monitoring was "vital" to diplomacy and business.

The BBC said it was "confident" the service would continue to meet the UK
government's needs.

The government directly funded BBC Monitoring until 2013, when
responsibility passed to the BBC under an agreement announced by
Chancellor George Osborne in 2010.

The cross-party committee said this had left the service exposed, with
around 100 jobs set to go under a re-structuring programme.

It expressed concern at plans to move Monitoring out of its current
Caversham Park headquarters in Berkshire, where it operates alongside US
counterpart Open Source Enterprise, because of potential disruption to
information-sharing.

'Catastrophic decisions:'

Currently, Monitoring covers 25% of the globe, while Open Source
Enterprise covers the remaining 75%.

The committee's report said: "The government uses open-source information
for indicators and warnings of areas of instability and potential threats
to UK security.

"The decisions made concerning the funding and governance of BBC
Monitoring over the past decade or so have been woefully short-sighted and
catastrophically ill-thought-out.

"A service that has the potential to be a vital tool in opening the world
to UK diplomacy and business is in grave danger of becoming a hollow shell
of its former existence."

A BBC spokeswoman said: "The media landscape has changed vastly since the
creation of BBC Monitoring in the 1930s and we believe our planned
restructure is vital to equip us for a world in which digital skills are
far more important than physical location.

"We are confident that we will continue to meet the UK government's needs
for open-source monitoring and they have told us they are happy with our
changes."

New International Call Sign Handbook 5th Edition

Now Available on Amazon. It became available last night at Amazon.

Press Release: Teak Publishing Company, P.O.B. 297, Brasstown NC 28902 USA

Ask any radio monitor what information they consider important during any
monitoring session, and usually two items will top their list: frequencies
and call signs. If you can hear activity on a particular frequency, unless
you can fully identify the participants transmitting on that frequency,
you can't fully appreciate or document the traffic you are hearing.

With millions of radio stations furnishing a variety of communication
services throughout the world, it is necessary that their transmissions
carry distinctive call signs or identifiers. Call signs have a four-fold
purpose: They may identify the nationality of the station, the agency
operating a particular station, the type of station, and the identity of
each individual station being heard on the monitored frequency.

The need for station identifications/call signs can easily be illustrated
here in the United States, which leads all other countries in the use of
the radio spectrum, that now has some 85 different kinds of radio services
operated by the government, military and civilians entities, providing
air, sea, land and space communication services. There are hundreds of
thousands of stations on the air and call signs and other forms of
identification help the radio monitor sort through the various stations
that are heard.

A call sign is defined as any combination of alphanumeric characters or
phonetically pronounceable characters (trigraph), which identifies a
communications facility, a command, an authority, an activity or unit. To
aid the radio monitor in their listening endeavors, the International Call
Sign Handbook series of books/e-books has been published.

Teak Publishing is pleased to announce their latest Kindle e-book the
fifth edition of International Call Sign Handbook by Amazon Bestselling
author Larry Van Horn, N5FPW. This e-book represents the most
comprehensive collection of military and government station
identifications ever published for the radio listening hobby. It is the
result of year's research, study and monitoring the HF/VHF/UHF radio
spectrum, by the author. Many different radio monitoring disciplines have
been used to compile the listings in this book. If you monitor the HF, VHF
or UHF radio spectrum, there is something in this book for you.

The information presented in this book has also been gathered through
personal correspondence, material published in the former Monitoring Times
magazine, various radio publications, newsletters, public domain
government and private internet web sites, but most have been gathered the
old fashioned way via on-the-air monitoring. In addition, we have received
generous support and contributions from many individuals in the radio
hobby.

In addition to international and military/government tactical call signs,
other types of identifiers such as Automatic Link Establishment (ALE) and
Mode-S aircraft addresses have been included in this e-book. There is a
chapter that had basic introductory material, as well as chapters devoted
to call sign / words used by the Department of Defense including the US.
Air Force, U.S. Army, U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. There are sections that
cover the various Military Auxiliary Radio Services and the U.S. Air Force
Civil Air Patrol auxiliary service.

There is also a chapter that covers call signs and ALE identifiers for the
U.S. Coast Guard service. Sections in that chapter include a Coast Guard
aircraft fleet list, miscellaneous U.S. coast guard calls, and also their
international call signs.

Another large chapter covers various U.S. Government call signs. Sections
in this chapter include the U.S. Custom and Border Patrol COTHEN radio
system and ALE address list, plus call signs from the following department
and agencies - Department of Commerce (DOC), Department of Energy (DOE),
Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Department of the Interior (DOI),
Department of the Interior (DOI) Bureau of Indian Affairs, Department of
Justice (DOJ), Department of State, Department of Transportation,
Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA), Drug Enforcement Administration
(DEA), Environmental Protection Agency, Federal Aviation Administration,
Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Federal Communications Commission,
Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Federal Highway Administration
(FHWA), General Services Administration (GSA), Health and Human Services,
Housing and Urban Development Department (HUD), Miscellaneous Listings,
National Aeronautics and Space Administration, National Communications
System (NCS), and U.S. Marshal Service (USMS) service.

One of the larger chapters is devoted to an international / worldwide call
signs list. We have a sampling of government and military call signs from
75 counties and international agencies.

The latest craze in aircraft military is decoding Mode-S/ICAO24 radio
signals and is included in this book. Our list in this edition covers
primarily government / military aircraft and introductory material on
Mode-S monitoring.

The last chapter of this book contains a large list of resource
information, useful in interpreting the individual entries listed in the
book. Sections on U.S. Navy ship/squadron classifications; U.S. Coast
Guard cutter designators; a massive list of abbreviations and acronyms
that appear in the book; a comprehensive country abbreviation list; and
the latest Table of Allocations of International Call signs from the
International Telecommunications Union (ITU) are included in the last
chapter on the e-book.

The Teak Publishing 5th International Call Sign Handbook is now available
for purchase worldwide from Amazon.com at
