AZORES   QSL of 2006year:  693  RDP Terceira, Azores (yeah, I know, it's
MW, but I am happy with this one!) I sent out about 100 QSL follow-ups at
the end of November, most of them FM, but a few MW. I've received about
30 FM responses since then. Today, on my return home from Christmas break
I was pleased to find a QSL from 693 RDP Terceira, Azores, in my mailbox.

My original report went out April 5, 2006, so this one took more than ten
years to land. I sent my original report to the Azores, and follow-ups,
too. This time I wrote directly to RDP in Lisbon.
This is Country #61 verified out of 73 heard.

I sent an IRC, but it was returned unused:

So was it a card, a letter, or what? Would Lisboa really know what was
broadcast on 693 Azores 10+ years ago?

BRAZIL   11764.63  ZYE726 Super Radio Deus e Amor - Curitiba PR. I was
surprised to hear this coming through at 0402 UT (3:02 pm local here) with

11925.179  on Jan 3 at 0705 UT, JBA carrier as R. Bandeirantes appears to
have reverted to its off-frequency spot, after a while much closer to
11925.0 kHz.

11925.0  on Jan 4 at 0135 UT, JBA talk here, not 11925.2 kHz, presumed R.
Bandeirantes switching again. However, if no Brazuguese recognizable, one
must beware of other 11925 kHz occupants: CNR1 Lingshi #725 site China,
until 0200 UT; BBC Pashto via Oman 0300-0330 UT. Then nothing until 0700-
Turkey.

11925.179  on Jan 4 at 0650 UT, now I do hear a Bandeirantes promo back on
the off-frequency, S8-S5.

BRAZIL/ETHIOPIA   In order to check 6090 kHz channel, when Anguilla unit
is OFF THE AIR at present, noted here both programmes

- Ethiopia on even 6090 fq channel, and

- Radio Bandeirantes at S=6 signal at 0553 UT on Jan 13:
6089.961 kHz exact measured.

[selected SDR options, span 12.5 kHz RBW 15.3 Hertz]
(wb  df5sx, wwdxc BC-DX TopNews Jan 13)

Unidentified 6090-v kHz, Jan 11 at 0717 UT, in the absence of Anguilla,
two JBA carriers beating slightly on the low side. One of them is
constantly varying about 6 Hz from the other, so I don't get a steady tone
with BFO. Ethiopia is supposedly in a break from 06 to 09 (and too far
into the dayside), leaving R. Bandeirantes, Brasil, and R. Kaduna, Nigeria
if active? Aoki shows no Chinese or other Asians now, and never mind the
imaginary Chilean.

[later]  But I was hearing two stations, one off-frequency, three hours
later when Ethiopia should not be audible. Worth checking further whether
Kaduna Nigeria has come back.
(Glenn Hauser-OK-USA, hcdx and dxld Jan 13)

Checked between 07 and 08 UT on Jan 13 via SDR remote units in Qatar,
Spain and Alberta Canada:

6090.003  ETH  Gedja well heard in Doha Qatar even between 07 and 08 UT,
weak and tiny at Madrid Spain and Edmonton Canada. Much stronger always at
this hour 6089.960 kHz Radio Bandeirantes S=8 in Alberta Canada remote SDR
post.

CHINA   4750  Hailar 10 kW / ND CNR 1, on Jan 15 at 0552 UT - I'm quite
surprised to already be hearing China at this early hour. It's at least
2 hours before LSS in the extreme North-East of China, the location of
this CNR transmitter. I measure LSS at about 08:30 UtC, so almost 3 hours!
Good reception, beside minimal CODAR interference.

<http://andenstimme.org>

eingesehen, bzw. heruntergeladen werden. Uebrigens werden wir in den
naechsten Wochen unsere Internetseite neu gestalten.

GERMANY   AFN Germany FM QSYs
FM frequency changes coming to AFN Kaiserslautern, Wiesbaden areas...

KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany

After years of negotiation, American Forces Network has secured an
FM radio frequency compatible with cars made to U.S. specifications for
listeners in the Kaiserslautern area, the agency announced this week.

At 11 a.m. on Jan. 18, AFN Kaiserslautern will switch to 105.1 MHz FM,
from 100.2 MHz.

The change will allow the station's signal to be heard on most modern
American car radios, whose digital dials tune to only odd-numbered
frequencies.

"This change is a long time coming," said Master Sgt. Christina Nelson,
the AFN Kaiserslautern station manager.

"We felt our audience's frustration at not being able to access their
local radio station in their cars, and we wanted to fix it."

Nelson said AFN worked with the German government and Media Broadcast
Germany's largest service provider for the broadcast and media
industry - to coordinate the frequency change.

Deutschland Radio, Germany's national radio station, which currently
broadcasts over 105.1 MHz FM, will take over AFN Wiesbaden's 98.7 MHz
FM frequency, Deutschland Radio announced in a news release.

AFN Wiesbaden will switch its FM frequency to 103.7 at the same time
AFN Kaiserslautern changes, Nelson said.

While the AFN Kaiserslautern signal strength is expected to remain the
same, AFN Wiesbaden will have a smaller reach after the frequency
switch, extending mostly to Wiesbaden and the Minz areas. Until now,
it could be heard in Kaiserslautern.

An AFN Wiesbaden post on its F_B site said that the station currently
broadcasts from the Feldberg/Taunus tower to nearly all of the German
state of Hessen and that "our range will be smaller from the new
location."

Big German public national broadcaster Deutschland Radio said in its
statement, that taking over 98.7 MHz from AFN, after more than 10 years of
negotiations, will significantly improve its reception, allowing it to
reach about 5 million people between Marburg, Aschaffenburg, Bad Kreuznach
and Mannheim, around Frankfurt/Main.

The reduction of American forces in Germany to significantly fewer
sites allowed the frequency change, Deutschland Radio said. A network
of stations, "tailored to the needs of the American armed forces," has
been created from parts of "the former frequency islands of"
Deutschland Radio.

KOREA REP OF    Echo of Hope - VOH on new 9100 kHz.

9100, Echo of Hope - VOH, briefly heard at 1403 UT, Jan 11. Very surprised
to find them on the air at this time, as their schedule is supposedly
1800-2400 UT on this frequency. Once it was heard (not jammed), went to
check for // ; yes, definitely // 4885 kHz, which was well heard as usual
and not jammed, while // 3985 // 6003 and // 6348 kHz were all jammed;
news in Korean; when I tuned back to 9100 kHz at 1405 UT, found they had
already gone off the air. A brief test of some type? Thinking of expanding
their schedule?

LAOS   6130  Vientiane 50 kW / ND Lao National Radio, on Jan 15 at 1415 UT
- I happened to listen again to a WOR episode from the Fall, and heard Ron
Howard's reception of Laos, being a tough catch. Gone are the days of easy,
armchair copy. Still a terrible copy with awful adjacent splatter: worst
is the North Korean jamming of the Voice of Freedom on 6135 kHz which
easily bleeds down to 6135 kHz in all of it's 'glory'. Almost as bad is
CNR 1 splatter from 6125 kHz.

UT - Russian program at good level. No hint of their 2nd transmitter on
17640 kHz which should be in English at this hour. At 1828 UT gave the
postal address for KNLS in St Petersburg, then email address .ru, and then
a phone number to contact them. Again repeated contact details and
schedule at 1847 UT. Also web address, which I'm sure was  <www.KNLS.ru>

At 1849 UT, back into inspirational music (in English). Sign-off
announcements at 1855 UT, but this time also gave the Anchor Point
address. Left the air at 1856 UT.

SOLOMON ISL  I'm getting a carrier on 5020 kHz early eves here from 17z,
have not monitored when goes off ... but will.

Im probably fooling myself but at times seems to be a bit of audio. Only
Solomon Isles listed. Are they on at this time cannot see listed ... but
only just back at the dials after a long break.
(Mark, Isle of Anglesey, dxld Jan 11)

5020 has made for some interesting monitoring. In Oct., Nov. and through
mid-Dec, SIBC had many days of an extended schedule, running past the
usual 1200* (Dec 2, with 1253-1550+) UT, with either their own SIBC
programming or more often than not with relay of "Wantok FM 96.3. Good
times, great music" programming.

Often after SIBC signed off (either at 1200* UT or after their extended
broadcast), both Hiroyuki Komatsubara (Japan) and I noted there was a weak
open carrier on 5020 kHz. We both believed it was not associated with
SIBC, but we never heard any audio, so it still remains a mystery.

Listening to many hours of programming in languages I understand at least
partly, I realise how much of the content is centrally prepared. I note a
dominant word in all languages: "terrorist" (PKK, PYD, Guelen movement,
IS). And I note as inconsistent compositions of quotations from
international press reports into a commentary programme as in the German
programme.

Beziehungen.

Turkey - During my ongoing research of their web stream

<http://www.trt.net.tr/Anasayfa/canli.aspx?y=radyo&k=trtvotwest>

I note that the designer of the web site of Voice of Turkey did not
envisage pages for frequency and programme schedules in the different
languages.

I know that a number of the services available via

<http://www.trtvotworld.com/>

are not broadcast on short wave; nonetheless interested listeners of those
on short wave should ask for current frequency information to be included.
It would also be in the general interest of the specific language services
to have all platforms (incl. FM affiliates) mentioned that they are on.

The German Service does give frequency and programme schedules for their
short wave transmissions. So, I did not note this deficiency of the design
of the web site before. I just came across this problem when finding
German on internet streams and not finding any references on the German
site.

Listeners of the English service should also note that the link at

<http://www.trtvotworld.com/>

directly leads to the TV service

<http://www.trtworld.com/>

This leads me to ask whether there is still any English audio content to
be found on the web site of the Voice of Turkey.

Hi Wolfy, The programs in Chinese ("Praise for Today") that are carried by
WRNO on Thursday (UT) and Saturday (UT), are currently on the

air starting just before 0400 UT (about 0355) till just before 0500 UT.

This change is due to USA changing the time back on Sunday, Nov 5.

In fact, I did briefly hear the Dec 29 Chinese program, so it was
broadcast that day, just an hour later than you checked. Sorry, on
Saturday, Dec 31, WRNO (badly drifting around) did not carry the program
in Chinese, as heard last Thursday. Had a music program at 0400+ UT;
subsequent checking also found only non-Chinese. A one Saturday only
anomaly?
(Ron Howard-CA-USA, via dxld Jan 4)

USA   VoVTN English 7315 kHz. As I suspected, VoVTN English on 7315 kHz
at 0100 UT Jan 15 much better without CNR2 interference !

Voice of Vietnam 7315 kHz in English via Cypress Creek, SC to the
Carribean at 0000 UT. Would be an excellent listen and stellar if not for
some low-ish modulation on the part of VOV's production and interference
from CNR2
on 7315 kHz in Mandarin to China.

Will try again for the English program from VoVTN, it replays on the same
frequency in 45 minutes on the same azimuth heading. I suspect VoVTN
on 7315 kHz will be better at 0100 UT as CNR2 signs off at 0100 UT.
