TONY'S 10 METRE BAND REPORT - April 26, 2017

April 26, 2017

A very poor week but Saturday and especially Sunday were pretty good. Well up there in popularity were V53DX (Namibia), 5V7P (Togo), A61SM (UAE) and E51DWC (South Cook Is).

Strange really, plenty of reports but not much activity, certainly not from me!

Mike, ZS6AI , says, “I had a good opening yesterday on 10m using JT65, from 14h20 to 17h45 UTC. All signals were strong, depending on where I pointed my beam of course. -20 was the weakest signal and -02 the strongest. I went up the band and called CQ but I had no SSB contacts, still it was nice to work a few new digital stations.” Thursday he worked PA3BOM, A45XO, EA7TB, PU2UAF, CX4CD, PA3AIW, LU4JHF, PY1ME, CX4AAJ and heard PA2WCB, OH8VGG, ZS5LEE, LU4HOQ, CT1BXT, ZS6OB, YO3GXC, IU3GKQ, EA5WU, LU4XAP, EB8RO.

Nice going.

Sunday, Darrell, G0HVQ, says, “A lucky opening with S79Z finally strong enough to work on SSB. A really decent signal on an otherwise dead band, a few Gs made it into the log.”

No I couldn’t hear him.

Rafael, YV5RED/qrp has had a great few days. Friday he worked KA7IVB -05 @2038, KG5GCC -12 @2204, WB6DKH -02 @2216, KM4SLW -06 @2234, W6MYN -02 @2248, KC2YIL -11 @2304, KG5HTH -18 @2340, K3DPM -18 @2348 and heard XE2YWB -1 @2201, ND4Q -20 @2237, WP4JLU -13 @2253, NC6B -19 @2303, N5WXY -2 @2307, AF5ZW -8 @2319, N5JS -13 @2327, HI8SMX -1 @2329, WE5EE -16 @2335, K5TMT -15 @2341, KK7JS -15 @2355, KA7IVB -21 @2359, TG9AAJ -13 @0007, KI6DY -19 @0037. About Friday he says, “QRV from 2035 A minor (G1) geomagnetic storm is currently in progress thanks to a high speed solar wind stream. More storming is expected over the next several days as a coronal hole stream rattles our geomagnetic field. Hams from USA worked some VK and ZL stations, and 3D2TS I think was the target in the evening.”

Sunday, worked AE2DX -8 @1822, PU2KOB -2 @1845, K4FTP -16 @1852 heard PU2UAF -13 @1817, LW8DJI -6 @1817, W0WKO -1 @1819, LU1DMF -18 @1822, KM4MVV -7 @1827, EA4BAS -17 @1831, PU2MJJ -5 @1833, LU3EJW -9 @1839, SV3DVO -10 @1845, LU7ECO -18 @1847, LW2EQU -16 @1849, CX8AF -16 @1853, LU2CHP -16 @1853, SV8JNL -18 @18.55 QRV from 1817 to 1905.

A little later on Sunday worked K4IGZ 5/9 @1913, KA4EET 5/9 @1920, KM4HEO 5/3 @1940, LU3MB 5/5 @2003, HQ1LEO 5/9 @2015, LU9CCQ 5/3 @2038, LU9AAM 5/3 @2049. QRV from 1913 to 2133 UTC / “Definitely, digimode works much better than SSB (JT65). Ranger RCI-2970 Dual Band Amateur 10 & 12 Metres Transceiver with Solarcon MAX-2000 Base Station Antenna 5/8 wavelength for 10 & 12 Metres”

Monday worked LU4HOQ -08 @1532, LW9DYQ -17 @1606, PY1TS -12 @1707, PY2OSD -17 @17, heard ZP9CTS -17 @1438, PT2AP -18 @1456, LU5MT -16 @1456, LU8HGI -18 @1508, PY2RJ -18 @1516, LU3DJ -5 @1522, LU4XAP -11 @1528, LU4HOQ -3 @1528, CX4CD -20 @1543, W5TN -15 @1619, CX8ABF -10 @1645, LU8XAF -16 @1700, PU2MMD -17 @1724. : QRV from 1436 to 1736 UTC.

And thanks to Rafael for spotting a flaw in the web page button to search for back issues of this very bulletin. It’s now fixed.

Sun: Just 3 stable sunspots. On April 23rd, a dark filament of magnetism on the sun exploded. A new analysis shows that debris from the explosion will not hit Earth. There is, however, plenty of space weather without it!

Stoke lost to Swansea away 2 - 0. Arnie missed a penalty and their second goal took a wicked deflection passed Jack Butland. Good to see him back but we need to score! West Ham at home this weekend.
A genuine 6 pointer.
