ARMENIA/GERMANY Shortwaveservice Newsletter 28. July 2017

unseren Breiten. Also ideale Kurzwellenzeit.

Zwei Programmtipps haben wir fuer Euch.
Beide fuer den kommenden Sonntag, 30. Juli 2017.

Zwischen 10 und 11 Uhr mitteleuropaeischer Sommerzeit (0800-0900 UT) ist
wieder Zeit fuer "Radio. Menschen und Geschichten".
Zu hoeren auf 6045 kHz {via MBR Nauen} und 7310 kHz {via Kall}.

Ausgabe 19 hat u.a. folgende Themen parat:

followed by trumpet music until carrier terminated. Fair.
(Rich D'Angelo-PA-USA, DXplorer July 24)

BOLIVIA 6024.98 Red Patria Nueva. Pgmming of various LA mx and canned

CANADA Many thanks from Ian McFarland!

For the 50+ folks that sent their best wishes for this veteran of
World Band Radio, thank you, thank you and thank you.

Glenn Hauser-OK-USA, hcdx and dxld July 19)

CANADA 6070-, UT Sat July 15 at 0122 UT, check of CFRX, interview about
some show at York University, so is it still 'Geeks and Beats' as
previously on the CFRB programme shedule? I wouldn't think so, but finding
the website,

<http://www.geeksandbeats.com/>

show topics, still new ones on podcast at least, are quite wide-ranging.
Unless someone can definitely tell me, will remain Unconfirmed
on DX/SWL/Media Programs.

7850 CHU Ottawa, time signal stn annmt in French and English language,

CANADA Many thanks from RCI's Ian McFarland

"To all my SWL friends & colleagues, I can't tell you how much I
enjoyed reading all your birthday wishes & comments that Colin so
kindly collected & transcribed from all your e-mails.

For this old man it was a most enjoyable exercise in pure nostalgia.

Thank you all so very much!

There were lots of familiar names on those messages, and of course, to
be truthful, lots of names that weren't familiar after so many years.

Memory loss is, after all, one of the unfortunate drawbacks of getting
to the age that people refer to as "elderly"! I find it hard to
believe that I retired from RCI over a quarter century ago now,
mercifully, some years before its impending virtual destruction over
the next few years. I'm just grateful that I was at RCI during almost
25 years of RCI's heyday.

I'm also grateful for all the opportunities I had to travel to Europe,
the U.S. and other parts of Canada to attend a variety of SWL
gatherings and have the opportunity to talk with so many of my
listeners. I'm sure that over my years at RCI I met many times more
listeners than the rest of RCI staff and management combined.

Attending all those events, including the three ANARC conventions that
were hosted by RCI, gave me many useful insights into what our
listeners liked to hear about, and the determined efforts they made,
especially in the noisy interference ridden listening environment in
Europe, to tune in to my SWL Digest program.

I can't tell you how much that meant to me. Many thanks again for all
your wonderful birthday wishes & comments.
Cheers for now & Good Listening, everyone. Kind regards. Ian."
(via Colin Newell - Editor and creator of Coffeecrew.com,
hcdx via dxld)

Colin, I meant to submit my birthday wishes to Ian, but it got past me
and it shouldn't have. I'll never forget my surprise when I found that
RCI's recorded schedule for blind users was done by Ian McFarland
himself. That was a treasure from a man who certainly had plenty on
his plate. Ian has much to be proud of.

To many listeners, he _was_Canada
(Rick Lewis, IRCA via dxld July 25)

IIRC, Ian was a supporter/promoter of the Handicapped Aid Program
(HAP); whatever became of that? (gh, dxld July 25)

I can forward any belated greetings. It's an honor living on the same
Island as a legend.

CHINA/IRAN Unid station low on 1377 kHz.

This one noted on measured frequency 1376.9974 kHz.
Hello Came up stronger around 2235 UT. It was CNR1 Xingyang China
(Barry Davies-UK, mwoffsets July 24)

In remote SDR installations in Delhi and Qatar two MW signals heard,
at 2220-2245 UT on July 25

1376.9965 kHz - stronger CNR signal in Delhi India post,
// 4850 6000 6080 7230 7275 7290 kHz program.

1377.006 IRN probably Chabahar, Baluchestan, Persian language program.
Stronger signal in Doha Qatar ME target.

Re: Unid station low on 1377 kHz.
I don't hear much, but it doesn't sound like Chinese. I have 2000 and
2100 UT clips from that day and I have a strong carrier, which might be
R. Free Africa?

At least Xingyang-CHN is one hour already in daylight at 2230 UT in July.
On 170713 at 2100 UT Xingyang-CHN is on 1377.001 kHz.

Today on 1376.9975v kHz is Xizang RGD Chinese // 4820 kHz,
NOT // CNR1 4800 kHz. No sign of CNR1 on 1377 kHz at 2120 UT.
(Mauno Ritola-FIN, mwoffsets July 25 / 26)

<http://www.asiawaves.net/mediumwave-1368.htm#mediumwave-1377>

but which CNR1 to be heard in Delhi India remote post at 22 UT ???

Baiding Lhasa #602 tx 200 kW, or Xingyang City Henan #554 tx 600 kW ?
nead more check, also on time pips at 22.30 and CNR1 world news //
(wb df5sx, mwoffsets via wwdxc BC-DX TopNews July 26)

CHINA [and non] 11845, on July 15 at 1256 UT, Chinese song, 1300 UT
timesignal, CNR1 ID and theme. This is jamming India's only broadcast in
Chinese scheduled until 1315 UT on 11845 kHz; but CNR1 goes off, and no
AIR heard, rather residual Cuban pulse jamming against this long-
abandoned Radio Marti frequency. CNR1 was same as on 11785 kHz jamming VOA
Chinese via Philippines.
(Glenn Hauser-OK-USA, hcdx and dxld July 19)

Dear Glenn, - With reference to All India Radio in Chinese on 11845 kHz as
mentioned in dxld 17-29 , I would like to inform that this frequency is
now not used by AIR at that time. Only 15040 & 17705 kHz are used.
Their official sked listed in website is:
1042017.pdf>
(Jose Jacob-IND VU2JOS, dxld July 22)

re China jamming on 11845 kHz.
yes correct, - AIR Chinese sce and AIR interval signal only heard on 15040
and 17705 kHz, not on 3rd channel 11845 kHz anymore.

CNR1 China mainland jamming TX switched on crash start fully
exact at 11.45:08 UT July 22,
powerful S=9+25dB strength even at remote New Delhi SDR site.
(wb df5sx, wwdxc BC-DX TopNews July 22)

COLOMBIA 6010.103 varying slightly, on July 24 at 0419 UT, weak talk S9
but vs OK storm noise, and music splash from 6000 RHC, M&W alternating.
Listening closely, I realize that the W is in English and the M in
Spanish, so one is translating the other, presumably a sermon. Guess which
is the originator? From La Voz de tu Conciencia. Meanwhile there is
nothing circa 5910+ kHz from the other HJDH, Alcaravan Radio, which I have
not heard for some time beyond a sometimes JBA carrier.
(Glenn Hauser-OK-USA, hcdx and dxld July 24)

6010.097 ... wandered up and down to x.094 kHz La Voz de tu Conciencia
from Colombia, tiny S=5 at 0432 UT on July 28, observed in Alberta CAN
remote unit. Also adjacent a rather threshold poor level signal from
ZYE521 R. Inconfidencia, Belo Horizonte MG Brazil on 6010.057 kHz.

CONGO {COG} 6115 Radio Congo, Brazaville, at 1816-1835 UT on July 24,
French, comments. Very weak. 14321. Also heard at 1820-1829* UT
on July 25, French, comments. Clear signal today. 24322.
(Manuel Mendez-ESP, DXplorer via wwdxc BC-DX TopNews July 27)

CONGO 6115, on July 14 at 0543 UT, VP signal with some talk, presumably
R. Congo nominally from *0500 UT, as it's rather too early, especially in
summer, for JOZ6 to be propagating from Japan, before 3 pm local. Don't
you believe the La Voz del Llano, Colombia, 6115 kHz listing still in
Aoki, long defunct.
(Glenn Hauser-OK-USA, hcdx and dxld July 19)

CUBA But what happened in Cuba Quivican San Felipe TITAN transmission
center? - at 0400 UT heard loud and clear on the RHC fq
CRI Beijing Cantonese language program instead on both

odd 5999.9975 kHz and 9790.000 kHz too !

In 60mb RHC Bauta on 5040 kHz little stronger proper S=9+15dB, than lower
S=7-8 only signal of R Rebelde Bauta too on 5025 kHz, heard at 0437 UT on
July 28 in Alberta-CAN.

9535even RHC Spanish from Bejucal at 0445 UT on July 28,
S=8 rather not strong today in Detroit Michigan remote unit. // 11840 kHz
S=6-7 from TITAN site near Quivican San Felipe.

17580.011 RHC Bauta in Spanish, poor and noisy S=5-6 backlobe signal into
Detroit-MI remote SDR installation. RHC ID stn theme at 1331 UT
on July 28. Nothing audiowise noted on scheduled 17730 kHz RHC channel.

15230 RHC Spanish TITAN from Quivican San Felipe site, backlobe signal of
Brazil-Argentina southerly target transmission. S=8 or -78dBm at 1338 UT
on July 28.

15369.991 RHC Bauta in Spanish, heard at 1343 UT on July 28, S=8-9 and
preferred welcomed 12.2 kHz wideband audio, history talk about Marti in
Guatemala ...

13740 CRI Beijing in English, via TITAN Quivican San Felipe relay site,
meant rather precisely at 305 degrees towards CA/Vancouver/WeCAN, but also
heard in Detroit-MI remote SDR at S=8 or -78dBm audio level.
At 1410 UT on July 28.

11760 Non-directional crossdipole antenna towards local Latin Central
America and the Antilles/Carrib. RHC Spanish Bauta at 1420 UT at S=7-8
or -83dBm level also heard in Michigan.

9535 and 9640 kHz, both RHC Spanish via former USSR R Moscow relay site at
Bejucal. Poor S=5 noted at Detroit-MI, 1430 UT on July 28.

[selected SDR options, span 12.5 kHz RBW 15.3 Hertz]
(wb df5sx, wwdxc BC-DX TopNews July 28)

CUBA 6145, on July 28 at 0131 UT, RHC English frequency is S=9+10dB of
dead air, so check the only other one, 6000 kHz:

VG S=9+20/30dB signal and VG modulation too but wait, it's not RHC
programming, rather China Radio International in English // 9580 kHz where
it is only supposed to be, and which BTW, is undermodulated by comparison.
It's also // 6020 kHz Cerrik Albania relay. Source soon becomes obvious
when the talk is about stock market activity including NYSE.

Things are REALLY messed up at RHC tonight. Obviously no one at studio or
sites is monitoring what is going into or out of the transmitters! So how
can they expect any listeners to do so? Shortly I check all the RHC
Spanish frequencies for further anomalies but they are all on correct
feed: 5040, 6060, 9535, 11670, 11760-overmod/distorted, 11830, 11840,
11850, 15230 kHz.

At 0200 UT, 6000 kHz goes into Chinese like // 9580 kHz. 6145 kHz is still
dead air of S=9+10dB. Ditto at next check 0222 UT. Next2 check at 0456 UT:
6000 kHz is now in Cantonese CRI // 9790 kHz, and 6145 kHz is STILL dead
air.

At 0500 UT we finally get to hear RCI in English as the extra frequencies
have come on: 6060, 6100, and best 5040 kHz. Both 6000 & 6145 kHz are now
dead air. At 0548 UT I notice some hum on 6000 kHz, and at 0550 UT RHC
English modulation finally cuts on, while 6145 kHz remains dead air.
Enough for tonight!
(Glenn Hauser-OK-USA, hcdx and dxld July 28)

ECUATORIAL GUINEA 6250 Radio Malabo, Malabo, at 0455-0545 UT on July
27, after being reported by several colleagues, heard in Reinante, Lugo,
anos", African songs. news and comments, id. "Radio Nacional", "Hoy es
jueves, nos acercamos al fin de semana", "Informamos para Radio Nacional",
"Si Vd. quiere viajar a la ciudad de Bata...", "Desde los estudios
centrales de Radio Malabo, en la ciudad de Malabo, "Companeros de la Radio
Nacional de Guinea Ecuatorial..., saludos a nuestros oyentes", "Radio
Nacional, Radio Malabo en la onda corta, continuamos con Panaroma
nacional". Clear signal. 25322.
(Manuel Mendez-ESP, DXplorer via wwdxc BC-DX TopNews July 27)

5005 RNGE, R. Bata, at 0513 & 0550 UT on July 27. Definite open carrier,
but unable to pull in any audio, which is usually the case here during my
summertime.

6250 Radio Malabo, at 0502-0602 UT on July 27. Thanks to alert from
Brandon Jordan; not a music loop, but actual programming in Spanish;
started poor and improved up to almost fair, but heavy QRN (static); news
and comments; both IDs given together - "Radio Nacional, Radio Malabo";
0556 UT commercial announcement by child for "Banco Nacional."
(Ron Howard-CA-USA, DXplorer via wwdxc BC-DX TopNews July 27)

6250 Malabo reactivated July 26 after 6+ years.
6250.000 kHz precise on-fq at 0650 UT on July 27.

Heard in remote SDR units Detroit-MI and Florida,
S=5-6 signal across the Atlantic Ocean this morning.

The skillful clever China engineers of BBEF Beijing are again on repair
and maintenance tour, like formerly in Zanzibar-Tanzania, Ethiopia, Mali
and other African countries, or Thazin Radio, Pyin U Lwin Myanmar.
(wb df5sx, wwdxc BC-DX TopNews July 27)

Still a great signal here in Tennessee USA. Hoping I can get them to QSL,
while I QSL'd Radio Bata and Radio Africa previously, I never got a QSL
for Radio Malabo which is considered a separate Radio Country in NASWA,
Equatorial Guinea - Fernando Poo. Still non-stop music till this post at
0002 UT on July 27.
(Brandon Jordan-TN-USA KM4PBQ <http://www.swldx.us> dxld July 27)

If it's any encouragement, Malabo was an easier QSL for me from the 1970's
whereas Bata's QSL (other than Radio Africa) has eluded me for several
years. For a test broadcast they should be forthcoming one would hope! ??

Vy nice catch! Have not hrd this for a long while!
Vy good signal into KiwiSDR receiver in Reykjavik Iceland with highlife
vocals from 2340 UT tune - SINPO 45544. Somebody must have fixed a xmtr as
this was (is?) a nominal 20 kW unit and is hrd much better than Bata's
nominal 50 kW. Nothing listed on Short-Wave.info.
Maybe they fix their Bata xmtr as well??
(Bruce W. Churchill-CA-USA, dxld July 26)

Re: Radio Malabo 6250 kHz at 2323 UT on July 26.

Tnx for tips, quickly checked July 25 at 2351 UT to find very poor level
music on 6250 kHz, or slightly on the low side, S8 vs S7 noise level,
still going past 2403+ UT. If they stay on all night, should improve
considerably. Best time for it used to be around 0500-0600 UT after their
sign-on.

This old Malabo frequency, 6250 kHz, was last heard in May 2011 per DSWCI
DBS, but that appeared to be a mistake, as at that time Bonaire was
producing a leapfrog mixing product of 6080 over 6165 kHz another 85 kHz
higher on 6250 kHz during the NHK Spanish relay until 0527* UT.

6250, RNGE, March 17 at 0543 UT, Spanish talking about events the last few
years in Malabo. Fair with usual ute bursts on low side. dxld 11-12.
(Glenn Hauser-OK-USA, hcdx and dxld July 26/27)

Tuned into this at 2245 UT on July 26 and heard back-to-back tracks from
Celine Dion up to the hour then canned ID in Spanish followed by an
African song. Then came a live announcement in Spanish, giving frequency
details, and continuous soukous and other African songs which were still
going when I tuned out at 00:20 UT. Reception was good via a remote web
SDR in Asferg, northern Denmark.
(David Kernick-UK, Interval Signals Online, dxld July 27)

EQUATORIAL GUINEA 6250 R. Malabo (pres.).
Perseus SDR (on DC) with 153 foot Delta Loop. While testing a new USB
cable to power the Perseus SDR with an XTPower power bank charger, was
shocked to find a strong signal here at 0001 UT w/African Pop mx. Nonstop
mx past 0045 UT. M in song at 0034 UT mentioned Malabo clearly several
times. Very glad to have it reactivated (if it is indeed Malabo) and hope
it stays on. So far Brandon Jordan in TN noted it first.

Presumed Radio Malabo, from Equatorial Guinea, Reactivated.
Was shocked to find a nice strong signal with African Pop music
from presumed Radio Malabo reactivated on 6250 kHz with this recording
at 0017 UT.
(Dave Valko-PA-USA, July 27)

EQUATORIAL GUINEA Re: Log: Radio Malabo 6250 kHz at 1845 UT on July 26.

Lokalsprache.

(Franz Suess-D, A-DX July 26)

EQUATORIAL GUINEA 6249.995 on July 27 at 0314 UT, after originally
hearing it before 2400 UT, another check for reactivated after 6 years and
4 months, RNGE Malabo, and as expected by now over all-dark path, the
signal is much better, S9-S7, so I measure the frequency more accurately.
Nothing but African pop music heard past 0344 UT, altho others were
reporting some periodic IDs in Spanish and the same music repeating on a
loop.

My next2 check at 0610 UT: still audible, but now talk definitely in
Spanish, noticias, vs storm noise from TX Panhandle, and the NR on the R75
certainly helps (not the NB). Many more reports of it followed from Europe
and North America, one from South America, including still testing and
asking for reports the following evening; none seen yet from Africa, Asia
or Pacific.
(Glenn Hauser-OK-USA, hcdx and dxld July 27)

EQUATORIAL GUINEA 6250 Radio Malabo, Malabo, at 1857-2020 UT on July
27, African songs, at 1900 UT ID. "Radio Malabo", Spanish and Vernacular
comments, at 2005 UT general interest advertisements in Spanish, "Por una

Radio Malabo asking for reception reports.

Ave. 3 de Agosto 90, Ap 195. Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, Africa.
Thats the address for "Radio television de guinea ecuatorial" (RTGFE)
in WRTH 2017.

Here in Reinante, Lugo, today July 28 at 0457-0540 UT, clear signal,
but a little more weak than yesterday. Program "Panorama Nacional",
male with Government advertisements of general interest for Equatorial
Guinean people "Por una Guinea mejor", ID. "Para Radio Nacional",
"Radio Malabo".

The recording is an interview with a correspondent, news and Government
advertisements for people, mentioned "Ministerio de Educacion".

Here in Reinante a little good signal than in your recording,
but not as good than yesterday.

Radio Bata on 5005 kHz also on air at 0511 UT but with very very weak
signal, barely audible. Greetings. Manuel...

EQUATORIAL GUINEA 6250 on July 28 at 0130 UT, RNGE Malabo with African
pop music is poorly audible, peaking S=9+10dB combined with high noise

At 0459 UT better now and I confirm comparing to WWV 5000.000 that this is
also right on 6250.000 kHz. At 0551 UT, now Spanish talk, mostly announcer
monolog, with a few words caught: "una manana agradable", "en Malabo". At

Anything from off the air completely, to part of the time, to reduced

substituted by other relay sites? And is that all? Two hours a day
for 4+ months? But not any other transmissions, transmitters or antennas

would not be on air anyway?

MEXICO Radio Educacion XEPPM.

I have just published some photos of the antennas at R. Educacion for
their 6185 and 1060 kHz outlets. These come after a discussion I've been
having over the past week with my friend and fellow DXer, Magdiel Cruz in
Mexico. Magdiel visited the station in 2013 and took many excellent shots
of the txer, antennas and studios.

More details at:

And Magdiel's website is well worth checking out.

Hope this may be of interest to someone here.

degrees {towards Sahel zone, Ce and WeAF azimuth, wb.}. Aoki agrees except
315 degrees, which is more likely as that would be aimed USward. RSO makes
lots of wooden registrations, with only one transmitter, could also be on
9500 or 9650 kHz at this hour. Not to mention 15140 kHz, left on the air
far beyond 2200 UT as sometimes happens. Could be a convergence of luck:
solar flux unexpectedly bumped up to a hefty 90 yesterday, and axually
transmitting on this frequency! But not much else trans-Atlantically on

the air later, as Hiroyuki Komatsubara today reports them on the air at

3275, NBC Southern Highlands, at 0951, 1026 & 1042 UT, on July 16, heard a
decent level open carrier here that I believe was them; off the air by
1050 UT; never any audio.

Spanish, presumably mandatory to be praiseworthy. Not too distorted this
time and not wobbly carrier.

17775, Friday July 14 at 2104 tune-in, KVOH is still on more than a bihour
past nominal 1900*. Maybe it depends on whether someone gets back from
lunch in time? Not sure if there is a pattern, but maybe tends to run
later on Fridays since they are off the air weekends. Strangely, sounds
like Pat Robertson talking in English, with alternate/consecutive
translation into Spanish, mentioning that it's the day after Trump
launched the Tomahawk missiles into Syria, i.e. several weeks ago. VG
signal level now but wobbling, and cut off abruptly at 2106* UT, still off
past 2116 UT.

17775, on July 27 at 2025 UT, KVOH is still on in Thursday extension, with
music, presumably Spanish, S9 and wobbling. Their engineering staff must
be taking their sweet time to get the 'new' transmitter going. Reminder
that on Fridays only, they are allegedly back in English at 1900-2100 UT,
first quarter gospel music, rest huxterism, not even 'Wavescan'. Should
they also run overtime on Mondays, as is possible, 'Frecuencia al Dia' is
on the schedule at 2000 UT.

Einladung zum 12. KBS-Hoerertreffen in Berlin am 2. September 2017

Liebe Hoererfreundinnen und liebe Hoererfreunde,
anbei sende ich Euch die Einladung zum 12. KBS-Hoerertreffen
am 2. September 2017 in Berlin.

schreiben.

12. Hoerertreffen von KBS World Radio in Berlin.

Hoererclubs. Die Gruendung des Hoererclubs fand am 29. Maerz 2007, also

Leipziger Platz 3
10117 Berlin ausgesucht.

Viele Gruesse und beste 73 aus Berlin,
Andreas Muecklich (July 24)
