TONY'S 10 METRE BAND REPORT - 12/07/2012

July 12, 2012

As poor as last week, so much so that I changed the criteria to get into the list down from Five last week
to Three this week.

1A0C (Sovereign Military Order of Malta - DXCC but not a country per se. Italy) heads the list in the early part of the week with HV5PUL (Vatican City) jumping in on Thursday. YE0M (Kaliage Besar Island, Seribu Islands DXpedition, Indonesia) and YV8ER (Venezuela) fought it out for the rest of the week.
Here is a graph showing the overall daily contact totals for the first 6 months. June was poor for 10m contacts and weather!

9W2SBD, Sallehan, works only QRP. Saturday he worked A41KJ 5/9 and VU3GYA 5/9. His motto is “Work more with less”. And admirable sentiment but then a huge antenna helps, always.
Arie, 9W2VVH, has just 1 station again but it’s not VK Dave this week its VK3MBW.

Sun: Sunspot cluster 1520 looks a good bet for M-Class flares. This is one of the biggest sun spots in several years. During the late hours of July 8th, a series of rapid-fire explosions on the sun propelled three coronal mass ejections (CMEs) into space. Despite the number of eruptions and the breadth of the billowing ejecta, Earth is little affected. All of the clouds appear set to miss our planet. Nevertheless, this flurry of CMEs highlights the currently-high level of solar activity. It is only a matter of time before a significant CME comes our way. [Spaceweather.com]

The cricket has once again fallen foul of the weather. No matter, we still win the one day series against the Aussies with an emphatic last ODI over 32 overs. The real stunner of the week was Mark Boucher’s eye injury which forced him to retire from cricket. I wish him well in his recovery.
