TONY'S 10 METRE BAND REPORT - 26/07/2012

July 26, 2012

Another poor week, even Saturday and Sunday refused to rally. So we hit the summer doldrums. Just when the weather gets hot and the Olympics start. Not that I’ll be going to any events.

Dave VK5MRD is still struggling to get much time on the radio. Also struggling with a whopper dog.
“I have not had any time for radio this last month, work has been extremely busy. As I only have a dual bander in my work van I am somewhat limited however lucky for me there is a 2m simplex gateway to the VK5RSC 10m repeater. Today I was there at the right time to work three mates in VK2 on the rptr. I hope to get near the base rig soon... Oh and by the way today I had a client who was upwards of 87 kilograms. He was a St Bernard, such a beautiful dog! Here is my list for today all on 29MHz.”
VK2SLM, VK2IPK, VK2JDE.

What do they get Dave? Short back and sides or shampoo and set, the dogs I mean, not the VKs.
And Arie, 9W2VVH once again has only one contact on 10m.
“Hi Tony. Guess what? Just one again this week. Worked with Aldrin 9M8WAT of Sarawak, Malaysian Borneo on July 24, 2012 around 1020utc at 28.440MHz and ragchewing about 40 min in very good signal rpt 59 both stn.

Last week become my memorable week - on July 20,2012. I rcvd the "ARRL My First Contact Award" - 1st contact with Carl VR2CB on March 28, 2008. On that day, there are WPX SSB Contest and my first time time ever heard audio/stn calling CQ (with additional word "contest") in 10m band ....... hi hi. This is a true story happened to me. So, I responded to VR2CB’s call and a big surprise for me, he replied, gave me his RST and his serial number - 058.
Then he asked me his report and his number... Actually I had no idea what contests were all about - so I said "Your rpt 59 but I don’t have any number for you...!, This is my 1st time wkd on 10m and your are my 1st contact!...". Then he told me to start with 001... On that day, I managed to work 5 more contest stns. So a total of 6 stn for my 1st day working on 10m. Tnx vy much Mr Carl VR2CB for being my 1st contact & my 1st contest in 10m band”

That is a most excellent story Arie. Carl used to be a regular here but I’m not sure if he is in Hong Kong any more. We met up a couple of times when my daughter lived there.

Sun: 5 sunspots but none really active. But now we do have warm weather and sunshine in the UK.
England lost the First five day Cricket Test against South Africa. It was their superb batting and our poor batting that did it. Hamish Amla scored over 300 runs and Jacques Kallis over 200 run not out. Magnificent! We however could not defend till the end of play. I was there on the last day at the Kia Oval, what an atmosphere.
