TONY"S 10 METRE BAND REPORT - 10/08/2012

23:33 Fernando Luiz de Souza 0 Comments

A poor to 'iffy' week with a massive increase in activity at the weekend, so much so that I had to increase to 5 stations worked to get in the lists. Fairly consistently the radio world, 'waits for the weekend'
Remember a week or so back Dave, VK5MRD was tending to a 87kg St Bernard dog, well here he is.
Dave has actually worked a few more stations this week.
“10m was wide open on Sunday but I was stuck doing my business Tax so I couldn’t get near the radio to make good of the conditions however I had a few minutes today in between dogs so I called in home and in a few minutes I had a little list Hi Hi. Troy KQ6PK was a great copy as usual at 5/9+. KF7TSK Anthony in Idaho was also good but weak with QSB. Arie 9W2VVH was also very strong once I swung the beam his way. I also worked my mate Greg VK3MTV via scatter some 350+km away, so I was happy with my short list.”

VK3MTV, 9W2VVH (see below), KQ6PK and KF7TSK.
Here is a set of reports from our Malaysian correspondents.
9W2SBD, Han , had a good session. IT9BUN 5/9, EA9IB 5/9, 9A7JCY 5/9, OK1FED 5/9, IK4ADE 5/9, YO9HLB 5/9, 9A208DX 5/9, SP5EAQ 5/9, IT9HFG 5/9, YO3HBK 5/9, R2RA 5/9.
He says, “My memorable week for a QRP station like me. I worked 12 stations and 5 new DXCCs.”
OK Han how much QRP do you have and what’s your station set up. QRP or not if you can’t hear them you can’t work them so you maybe have a super antenna system?
Sunday 9W2VVH, Arie did well working VK5MTM 55/57, EA71ZJ 55/55, EA7ANC 55/55, EC4ALB 57/56, EA1AZ 55/57, KH6QR & CN2YZ 57/57 and heard KP4JRS.
He said, “Sunday Aug 5 - Band open to Spain late midnight local time. Wkd 4 EA stns and one stn frm VK, CN & KH6.” On Monday: VK5MRD 59/59 & VK3MTV 57/57. “Vy nice signal contact to Big Dave around 0110utc/0810mst.” Tuesday: DV7DRP 59/59, DV7DRZ 55/51, PY2EB 55/57, PU5SVE 59/59, UA0NL 55/41, PU1KGG 57/55, KD0JJO/DU7 58/55 & VK2CPC/4 MOBILE 51/51. “Heard H44USMC of Solomon Is. calling CQ and pile-up with VK & JA.” Wednesday: P29FR 57/55, PU2SDX 30/53, PU9FDO 43/41, 9M2ESM 51/51, UY5IC 51/53 & 9W8ALF 55/51. “Wed Aug 8 - Band open for local QSO. On Wednesday Zaki, 9M2ZAK, worked RX6LCQ UU2JA US2IP RX6AOB I1EIS YO8DOH LZ1DQ UA6JQ RA4DB RM6J EA7MT EA9IB RN6AM EA7GV all in CW, 28025.3 and heard HS0ZEE.

I’ve at last had a picture of Kevin’s (VK4UH) new (ish) tower and beams. We have been friends for years but last met at my son’s wedding in October 2011 in VK. He had just put up his new kit then. Here it is. Hope to visit him early next year.
Sun: Six sunspots visible with another just emerging.
Big news of the week is the safe landing of Mars rover Curiosity.
This landing gives a whole
new meaning to the phrase “sky hooks”.
The Olympics is giving us a whole clutch of gold medals, well done everyone involved.
Test match cricket gave us another draw courtesy of rain. The result of the series will all hang on the result at Lord’s.
I shall make the 5th day if it lasts that long.
