TONY'S 10 METRE BAND REPORT - 30/08/2012

22:47 Fernando Luiz de Souza 0 Comments

It’s as plain as the nose on your face that this week is back to its more usual format of poor in the week building to a monster weekend especially Sunday.
D64K (Comoro Is) ended it’s spell on Monday then up jumped GT4AAF/P (Isle of Man) just for one day.
They are Dundee Amateur Radio Club and were supposed to be active 18 Aug - 25 Aug 2012 so I wonder why they are only there just the once.
I see Steve GW4BLE, has made it back into the list again, always used to be a strong contender on Ten Metres, Steve.
There was plenty of other DX about, YW5B (Groupo DX Caracus expedicion Isla la Blanquilla), 7Z1TT (Saudi Arabia) and too many others to mention on Sunday.

Sallehan Bin Din, 9W2SBD, worked: BD7OZG 5/9, HZ1TT 5/9, IZ3SQW 5/9 and EA8OB 5/9 on Saturday.
He says, “Lucky to work with 3 continents (EU - Europe / AF - Africa / AS - Asia ) with QRP (5 watt) Using FT817ND/3EL 10M Yagi/.
Here is my antenna http://9w2sbd.blogspot.com/2012/05/just-try.html
and my radio http://qrz.com/db/9W2SBD
Dave VK5MRD has done it again, worked just one contact,
“Here is my list for today (Wednesday). I could hear a few US stations but they were quite weak to me. I could hear Arie 9W2VVH but I think he was working LP so he too was weak. The ZL beacons ZL3TEN and ZL2MHF were quite loud. I only worked one station due to time restraints.” : ZL1AZT. On Tuesday not even one, “No 10m stations worked today but I did hear the VK8VF beacon together with JA2IGY and JR0YAN beacons and also YB9BWN 10m beacon. Although not 10m I did however manage to work 2O12L ( two Oscar twelve London ) on my dodgy OCF Dipole on 20m. I am happy with that.”
Those 2O12l guys were supposed to have set some sort of record, not sure what yet.
Here is a video of Dave working ZL1AZT.

Sun: Three small (?) sunspot clusters none which pose a significant threat for strong flares.
NEIL ARMSTRONG (1930-2012): Former U.S. astronaut, Neil Armstrong, the first man on the moon, died Saturday at the age of 82. "Neil was among the greatest of American heroes - not just of his time, but of all time," said President Obama in a statement on Armstrong's passing. "Today, Neil's spirit of discovery lives on in all the men and women who have devoted their lives to exploring the unknown. That legacy will endure - sparked by a man who taught us the enormous power of one small step."
We (Stoke City) got a draw against an Arsenal side with no Van Percie. We should have had a penalty but the ref disagreed. Wigan away this weekend.
