A good weekend for the Field Day contest Region 1 with Saturday being a little more prolific than Sunday. Ah yes, memories of lots of coffee, curry and beer and large fry up breakfasts.
That apart, the week was slow. Friday improved probably with the various groups out testing their kit and working out operating schedules. Fun on a stick!
Please try to get reports to me by 12:00 UTC on Wednesday for inclusion that week.
Arie, 9W2VVH , sent in his report a bit too late last week, here’s what he said, “Sorry Tony for late report for last Week. Sunday Aug 26 – I was in the CVA DX Contest. Thanks Arie, a whopper report this week with a lot of success.
On Saturday Tim, M0URX, worked: JA1DCK, UA9BA, JE4YKY, JA7OWD, RW0A, JA1YPA, JA3AOP, JE1ZWT, JS3CTQ, JE1LFX, JI1LET, JE4CIL, JA3QOS, UA9MA, BX5AA, HL4RBR, D3AA, WY5I, AB2DE, VA2BYO, VK4CZ LONG PATH, VP9NNL and KJ4CVY. He heard: FO4BM. “Excellent conditions on 10m on Saturday for the All Asia contest and the cream for me was working VK4CZ Scott long path at 2140z.”
Also Saturday, VK3FZ, Roger, worked 4O3A, IK6CWQ, GO4RCG, OK1CF, OH1VR, E21EIC, UI9I, LZ8E and SO2O mainly on phone. He says, “Conditions very good, started at around 04:30 with 4X0A and finished with IK6CWQ at 07:50 the only G I worked was G0RGC on cw at 06:14. Maybe Sunday will be top for Fathers day in VK with the SFI over 140.”
On Sunday very similar. He worked IK6CWQ, 9V1YC, XV1X, V55V/P, IT9AUG, 5B4AIF, DU1AV, UA9UO and JR6NEI/QRP.
Things were good for Andy, M0HLT. He worked: V55V/P, P3RP, EN1IFF, S55W/P, EA8/IK1JPV and 5B4AIF (Norman) who was 5/9+ 40! Calls heard: HZ, XS and ZS6. His comments are, “Well propagation just seemed to come alive over the weekend, with much DX being heard and worked here in the far southwest, and many signals were 5/9 +
I initially went out and about for the RSGB 144 trophy contest, but signals did not seem to good? ....so I QSY'd to 28MHz. Off topic but on Saturday morning I was hearing 5/5 with qsb and back scatter affect was ALASKA, KL7?? who was workable for nearly 2 hours (are we on for a repeat of this time last year for 2 months + of great DX?)” I hope so.
Alan, KK4IS , was also active on Sunday. He worked 9Y4LAS 5/9 and CE1VIL 5/9 and he heard: HD2A 5/9, XE1XR 5/7, PY1ZV 5/7, PY2LED 5/9, PY5AP 5/5, PY1PDF 5/7 and HP1/IZ6BR 5/8. “22:00 UTC, 02 SEP: All stations heard/worked barefoot with an inverted V dipole cut for 40m and a 150' long run of RG8X, so not ideal. 9Y4LAS was running barefoot with a Mosley beam pointed to Europe (I am in Miami, FL). During our QSO he switched to his 40m inverted V dipole with no change in signal reports on either end.” As you say Alan, not ideal. But when 10m is open you can work the world on 10W and a piece of wet string, when it’s not open 1kW and a quad doesn’t get to the end of the street.
Carlos, PY2XC , hasn’t reported in for a while. “Band was crazy on last Wednesday and Thursday 08/29. In a matter of minutes (23:00 to 23:28) worked JA1DDZ 599, JA1GW 599,JA1JEJ 599, JA3AZD 599, JA3EGE 599, JA1EDZ 599, JA8DFQ 599, JA9CAC 599, JL7CTR 599. The next two days worked LA6LDA at 20:11 and V44KAI at same time. On 08/31 worked KL7J with 599 and his antenna was beaming Europe! Just forgot one happening! On 08/31 at 20:27 after CQing for a while, heard DU7DRU answering my call! Via Long Long pass. And a bit more!, another fantastic contact: TF8GX on 08/31 at 21:04 UTC (that means 18:04 for us). Band was wide open.” OK Carlos, I think we squeezed everything in there. I hope these conditions do hold up for a while.
Sallehan, 9W2SBD , says, “I was very lucky to hit the target of 6 continents in less than 1 year with QRP. Start 1st contact 10M with 9W2ZAM at 2011-09-07 16:02:00 UTC
Until 2012-09-02 16:13:00 work with HD2A
My Map is at HRDLog Net > pls check this link > Map 9W2SBD
Mark, G4SKO , feels September has started with fireworks (in the UK fireworks are mostly reserved for November and Guy Fawkes). “August went out with a whimper with the 31st bringing just one contact PY2VI 5/5. The fireworks started on the first day of September and continued through the AA contest with HS0ZIA, BD1QXU, B1Z, UN1O, JH4UYB, JS3CTQ, JA7OWD, 9N1AA, UA9MA, and 5B4AIF who was a staggering 30db over for most of the day. The fun continued with. 4Z4OQ, K4AAK, 4X4FR, G4EKT 5/5 via tropo some 60 odd miles away and V55V. on the 2nd. This being a contest they were all giving 5/9s of course hihi. The 4th of September brought ZS6TAN 5/8. All in all a great start to the month, lets hope it continues.” Yes, indeed Mark, there are quite a few of us hoping just that.
Dave, VK5MRD , of pooch perming fame, did manage a Dad’s Day stint on 10m. “Here is my list for today. It was Fathers Day today so not much time for radio today but I was happy with my little list. Stations heard were:- IK6CWQ, 9V1YC, R3GZ, HS0ZIN, 5B4AIF, BD7IS, R8MC. I was very happy to work V55V/P in Namibia, I guess I was just there at the right time! Worked E20WXA , V55V/P , IT9AUG , BX5AA , YB9/DJ7XJ , JA7OWD and JA5FBZ.”
