Commonwealth Contest: win a Centenary morse key! The Commonwealth Contest takes place on 9 and 10 March and the RSGB have donated one of the Centenary Keys for the prize draw. All stations that enter the contest and make at least 75 good QSOs after adjudication are entered into the free prize draw. This is a 24hour CW contest on the 10 to 80m bands. The exchange is simply a report and serial number and there is free software to make the logging, sending and entry very easy. Only QSOs between call areas in the Commonwealth count, so have a look at the call area list in the rules. Check out the website at:www.beru.org.uk/
MEGA IOTA TRIP !! UPDATE: Ralph 5W0W / H44RK is planning an IOTA tour starting the 1st week of June 2013. He will be joined by SQ9KWW Dom and H44MK Maggie (the only local YL Ham). They are applying for the callsign H40IOTA.

Their plan is to activate (in order) the following IOTA's.

New Georgia OC-149. Russell Islands OC-168. Solomons OC-047. Rennell Island OC-127. Stewart Island OC-285.

Of special interest to IOTA chasers is OC-285 Stewart Island, having never been activated.

After the activation of OC-285, Ralph will continue solo to Brisbane (aboard SV Hafskip) with a view to activating the following IOTA's.

Reef Islands OC-065 Nendo Island OC-100 Vanikolo/Utupua OC-163 Torres Island OC-110 (YJ - Vanuatu) Banks Island OC-104 (YJ - Vanuatu

Ralph and the team will be donating much needed supplies and solar lighting packs to each chief of the island villages they operated from. Therefore, they are requesting donations for the Expedition, and look forward to you being a part of this trip, whether it be small or large to help support those most in need.

Please contact Ralph at ralph.honiara[at]gmail.com which is also the paypal address. They are also looking to take onboard one proficient CW operator for the OC-285 leg of the journey.

ZS8C & ZS8Z - MARION ISLAND - Two radio amateurs will be part of the over wintering team and will be active on Marion Island (AF-021, WAP ZAF-10, WWFF ZSFF-012) from May 2013 to April 2014. ZS8C Carson (ZR6CWI) has been appointed as the Space Weather Engineer and is employed for the next year by the SA National Space Agency (SANSA). ZS8Z David (ZS1BCE) has finally been appointed as the radio technician. His appointment was delayed due to a clerical error. Expected modes will mainly be SSB and digital modes, they may only use the existing commercial broadband HF antenna, and their QSL Manager is ZS1HF. More info will be posted on their respective QRZ.com sites once they have been created. All enquiries via Pierre ZS1HF at this stage. [MM0NDX]

73 and Good DX!
