March 7, 2013

A cracking weekend contest, the rest of the week was really nowhere.
XT2TT (Burkina Faso) was very busy and only just nudged off top spot on Sunday by TX5K (Mayote).

Saturday and Sunday shared over 8000 reported contacts.
VK5MRD, Dave is too successful with his business. He says,
“Just one station worked on 10m, Sergey UR3CTB. I have been hearing the VK8VF and VK2RSY bcns and also the JA2IGY bcn. Same old story here mate, just no time at the moment for radio between work and family commitments.
One QSO of mention is with G4CJC/VK2IBX, yes our Tony!
Tony, it was great to work you via the IRLP whilst you were staying in Sydney.
Here is my band report for Wednesday 06/03/2013. Just had time to turn the radio on tonight before I had to switch off. Only one station worked Stephan OE8SKQ in Austria. I did hear stations from JA, BD, UR and SV too. Hope you had a good trip.”

Yes, it was good to work you from Sydney however briefly. The 11 hour difference makes it difficult from the UK.
Arie, 9W2VVH had another first.
“Feb 28, 2013 - My lucky day to work Alex GD6IA of Isle of Man, my new DXCC #140 contact. Actually I had just switched on my radio and started listening & scanning the frequency, then on 28.478 MHz, I heard him calling CQ for Asia. The condition not so good but QSO done! Mni tnx Alex for FB QSO.”
On Wednesday Arie went data. And worked UY5YK, SP3FCO, OM7ASP, BI7MCK & VU3PJQ. All QSO in PSK63 mode. Rpt 599”
After some prompting from Kevin, VK4UH I think I will be trying PSK31.
Andy, M0HLT , had a good week. He worked UK8OM Uzbekistan 5/9,HZ1DG 5/9 ,VU2PCD 5/5, XE7S 5/9, TA4AU 5/4 and LU1FAM,FM5BH,FG5GP,LU7YS,WP3A,C6ANM.
“Well what a weekend etc, I've worked stations / Countries I have NEVER worked before on ANY band, I have not added the many QSO's with the ARRL contest, but observations were lots of W4's, W1's W8's , W9's and several W5's , although no 6's or 7's or "0's" heard, Friday lunch time was mad, 10 suddenly opened up to what seemed EVERYWHERE? many "G's" heard on back scatter? working VK's etc even heard 3B8CW a EX pat? call a "g0" .....Off topic but tuning around 12 m's heard VK7GM calling CQ with no takers ? so I went back and he replied on my first call, a BRAND new one for me on ANY band in 10 years! over 10,900 miles now that's what you call DX ! 73 “
That's better than me and I was in VK for 2 weeks and only worked 3 stations.

Sun: 6 sunspot clusters but nothing that seems to indicate any solar flares

Stoke City lost by the odd goal to West Ham. It now starting to be a slow drift down the table. Good job we got some points early on. Newcastle away this weekend, slim chance there.
