TONY'S 10 METRE BAND REPORT - October 9, 2013

October 9, 2013

Don’t forget to participate in Juno at 18:00 UTC on Wednesday 9th October and maybe get a QSL card from NASA. Details here.
A good week except for Thursday, so much so that
the limit to get into the lists was raised to five.
The weekend was seemingly open to the world.
Friday I worked G4BHS, 5B4AHY and VA3ZDX.
Saturday RA3PS, US4IPC, RX6BN and TA1EF, all on PSK. Sunday JW9JKA, KC4TVZ, KD4BVG, N1RHY on SSB, XR3Y and VA3MIR on PSK. Monday SV9FBG.
Mostly Monday I was putting up the home brew RFL vertical for 10m. Brief tests show it seems to be 3 or 4 S points up on the Windom. More later.
And Tuesday I was at the Central Criminal Courts, commonly known as The Old Bailey.
I have a friend there who clerks for one of the courts and I spent the day comparing the inner workings of those courts to magistrates courts which I have much more knowledge. Wednesday just worked 6V7T Senegal.

2E0YYY, Mike , had a good Saturday working 4S7AVR 5/8, 4Z5FI 5/9, N3WLB 5/2, KC8PBP 5/3, K4FQT 5/5, W2WKD 5/5, N2BEG 5/9, W4UW 5/9, WQ7X 5/9, KI4EPN 5/5, KA2ADX 5/9, KE2DN 5/9, K4RWP 5/9, WA2WOL 5/9, KD8GAJ 5/9, K4KTK 5/7, WW4BT 5/9, KJ4AOM 5/3, K3UHU 5/9, PU1PJR 5/9, KK4SGQ 5/7, AD4C 5/9, KB3YRO 5/7, W3ECK 5/9, LU9FFZ 5/9, LU6EVD 5/9, LU8DFV 5/9, KJ4UGO 5/9, KC2YRC 5/9, W2OIL 5/9, KC2ZGW 5/8, KC3BBU 5/7, K2SJ 5/9, G8MIA 5/9, LU6DLL 5/7, CU7CG 5/8, LU8FAU 5/9, PP7LL 5/7, WB8VWI 5/9, NE3Z 5/8, CX3CC 5/9, N3SBA 5/9, KD8VAE 5/7, KA4JCD 5/7, PP5BA 5/9, KP4CPC 5/9, RI1ANU 5/9, ZS6AF 5/9 and OD5ZZ 5/9.
He comments: “Hi Tony, once again I found the 10m band in good shape, with my first contact being 4S7AVR Noel in Sri Lanka. Plenty of Stateside takers and a nice contact with Oleg RI1ANU in South Shetland. Seems like Stoke City are bang out of luck at the moment losing 1-0 to Fulham. Still, early days yet.”
You did have a good Saturday Mike. Whereas I spent a good bit of it watching Stoke City run all over Fulham and not score. Good ground and good family orientated club Frustrating.
Mike then went on to work
just a few more on Monday!!, “UA9XMC 5/9, RA6YJ 5/9, UR6HDJ 5/7, M6RGF 5/7, M0ZOF 5/7, M6BLV 5/6, 4Z4DX 5/7, UR1KK 5/9, UR3CTB 5/8, UR0QK 5/7, UA9FFF 5/9, UR5ZBZ 5/8, UX6IR 5/9, SV1MOO 5/6, UA6AH 5/7, RA4PPM 5/9, UA9UDX 5/8, UR3LUA 5/9, US7IZ 5/9, RA4LK 5/5, RN6AJ 5/8, RK3DBK 5/9, RU3II 5/6, UC7LA 5/8, RA3PPA 5/5, UU4JU 5/9, UT1MT 5/9, JW9JKA 5/9, UA4HTT 5/9, YE1NZ 5/5, UA4AAC 5/9, UR5IRM 5/8, US6IKF 5/9 and WU8R 5/9.
“I went out portable to activate SOTA summit G/SP-013 Gun, in the South Pennines near to Leek, Staffordshire on Monday. Once again, found the 10m band in good shape. Plenty of Eastern Europeans coming back to my call.”
Hope you had a flask of coffee handy.

Saturday Steve, M0STC, with the beam now pointing NW, all JT65's worked:- N9ACD -06, WT9WT -09, VE3VSA -09, WU9D -07, AC0DX -15, N3GTY -05 and W0GN -04.
He heard amongst others, also JT65's CX8AF -21, PD0TVA -21, PD05JOS -21, PU2KNM -17, PU8YPL -13, ZS1AGF -13 and ZS1AW -14. Click here for info on JT65 mode. Sunday on SSB he worked W3EP 5/9, KB0EO 5/9+20 and K0JU 5/7.
I would echo his comments about Sunday which were, “Just too easy today. Not that I'm really complaining ! Heard stations in Africa and the Middle East too, but not worth trying to work them with the beam pointing to North America.”
He also worked these on PSK31, FG5LA 5/7, AI8F 5/5 and KB3AAY 5/7. I’m not sure if it’s a typo Steve as those reports would not usually be for PSK mode.

Sun: 8 small sunspot clusters. Solar activity is picking up. New sunspot AR1865 erupted this morning (Oct. 9th at 01:48 UT), producing the strongest solar flare in nearly two months. NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory recorded the M2.8-class eruption. (spaceweather.com)
As noted earlier Stoke City extended their run of defeats to 3 by losing to a single goal at Fulham. No matches this week as the international World Cup qualifiers are being played.
