TONY'S 10 METRE BAND REPORT - 14 November, 2013

09:52 Fernando Luiz de Souza 0 Comments

Well it was another good week with Saturday proving the best day by far. The honours for most contacted DX go to K9W (Wake Atoll), T33A (Banaba Is), and 5J0R (San Andres Is).
Myself, I’ve been in Shanghai without any radio kit so have not worked or heard anything except the constant horns of the local traffic.
At long last it seems these esteemed pages are available in China. Now we need a few reports from Chinese radio amateurs on 10m conditions in China. Big place, there must someone out there.
However our daughter is recovering from a successful operation performed by a most excellent Chinese surgeon.
Here are a couple of reports that I was unable to include last week so do remember they refer to stations worked or heard the previous week.

Hafizi, 9W2TZW , worked VR2XMT 5/9 and
heard 9W2AHU 5/5 and A92HK 5/9.
He says, “Hi Tony, this week really give me a new hope to work on 10M...with the new 3 Ele yagi full size in action, I managed to hear A92HK 5/9....but still not enough got luck to make contact with him....maybe will work with him soon. I hope your visit to Shanghai goes well. All the best.73 de 9W2TZW”
Thanks for those kind thoughts Hafizi and as you can see above our daughter is well.

Tuesday Zaki, 9M2ZAK worked NA2U 599, K7LVJ 599, BV3TOB 599, NP4IW 599, W6RFF 599, K7EF 599, NJ5W 599, KE1B 599, JH1OTZ 599, W7GF 599, WA7G 599, JA2KGQ 599, K7CO 599, W7LNG 599, JE3HSL 599, JR1LVB 599, DU1KA 599, W7DBS 599 and N7NR 599.

Arie, 9W2VVH sent in this report about the previous Saturday. “Hi Tony... Here is report from Malaysia... sorry for late report for last week. Oct 26-27, 2013 - Participated in CQWW DX SSB. 10m propagation in good shape. Managed to work 173 QSO, 325 point, 24 zone & 40 country
total = 20.8K in Single Op Assisted 10M Low Power Category. Contact analysis by continent AS=14, EU=11, NA=3, OC =6, SA=2 & AF=4. New DXCC for me FH8PL - Mayotte Is & KL7RA - Alaska. Wednesday I worked K9W, K6RTC, JA3HBF, 06 Oct, 2013 - HL3IB, N6MB, JA1HOX and T33A. 2 new DXCC: K9W Wake Is & T33A Banana Is. Both island station are most popular DX this week.” They sure are (see above) and thanks Arie, sorry I couldn’t get it in last week, I was flying when you sent it!! He adds for this latest week, “Friday Nov 8, 2013 - I wkd as 9W2VVH/P Icom IC-718 with dipole antenna. Wkd ZS6TAN & YB9KA/QRP
Wednesday Nov 14, 2013 - Wkd JR1CAD/8, WA6KLK, JJ1PLS, JA3EQC and BH4UTT
Was this out mobile and how many Watts?

A new report this week from Redzuan, 9W2VXC, the Malaysian contingent continues to grow. Thursday Reduzan worked ZS6TAN 5/9, Friday A92HK 5/9, JA7HB 5/9, JH7OHS 5/9, ZS6BAF 5/9 and Monday VK1MA 5/9, DU3/N0QM 5/7, RW0CD 5/9, VK4AFU 5/9, JA4CSJ 5/9, JR3LSV 5/9, JG1PED 5/6. Tuesday VU3DJQ 5/7, A41PG 4/4, JH3LCX 5/5, UA9AU 5/5, UA6MW 5/1.
He also said, “Thank you.” I think it should be me saying that!

9W2ORB Rahman , says, “Wow!! thanks for this day...make my day...2 new DXCC as a QRP station...complete a 35 DXCC as QRP station right now....Thanks my friends from My10mg for support and thanks Tony...hope to see you soon..” I would love to work a Malaysian station but no luck for ages. Wednesday he worked ER4DX 5/9, LZ1QI 5/9, IK4JPK 5/9 and EA3BFX 5/9.

2E0NHR, Steven , sent in his first report. He worked WB2REM 5/9 over 40 and S506PMC 5/9. “Just found this 10m reporting what a great idea!”I like to think so. I’ve been doing this for about 10 years or so now (the editor will no doubt correct me if I’m wrong and if he bothers to read this). So keep sending in the reports long or short.

Nazmi, 9W2GSG enjoyed the Japan contest. “I join in the JIDX contest and I got 135 Japan contest stations on 10m band because I did not run for fulltime on this contest..but I still enjoy the contest.. 73 from West Malaysia..” Friday he worked ZS2EC 5/6, ZS6GMH 5/7, YB9KA/QRP 5/9, ZS6GAS 5/9, ZR5SF 5/7, ZS6ACP 5/8. Then Monday ZS6MAR 5/6, PY7CPC 5/7, 9W2VXC 4/4 and 9W2GEO 5/5. “I'm very happy when I heard PY7CPC can speak Malay (Malaysian language) for a little bit...” All these little things help and of course make our hobby full of variety.

Tony, YO3IPR /G4IPR , says “Hi Tony, Great column! You may remember me as I used to live in Enfield and was active there 1979-1993, see my QRZ.com pages for the old and current calls. Back on 10m and other HF bands since 3 August after 20 years of absence from HF. The odd tones all over 10m that were mentioned in your 5 Nov 2013 article are the well known Iranian Over the Horizon Radar reported on Southgate back in Feb: http://www.southgatearc.org/news/march2013/
oth_radar_from_iran_on_28_mhz.htm
and audio clip can be found herehttp://www.iarums-r1.org/iarums/sound/29000-iran.wav It is very loud at times and is proving to be a real nuisance recently.”
You see, the editor should have know that and pointed it out. I have to confess I do not remember your call. I came to Enfield in 1987 and was not too active to start with. Richard G4TUT lived in Enfield for yonks. He will remember.

Sun: Solar activity today is low, but there is reason to believe the quiet won't last.
At least three sunspots pose a latent threat for strong flares.
They are circled in this image from NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory. [spaceweather.com]

Stoke City squandered a 0 – 2 lead against Swansea to eventually scrape a 3 – 3 draw in extra time. No match this weekend owing to international commitments. Good because I’m in Shanghai.
