CUBA 5025, on March 27 at 0535 UT, Rebelde is off, while 5040 kHz RHC is
on. And so it goes. Dino Bloise forwards one explanation of what's
happening on 60mb:

"Radio Rebelde. El Diexista cubano Miguel Angel Lahera ha publicado en
Frecuencia Al Dia / F_B lo siguiente:

Cambio en Radio Rebelde: Su frecuencia habitual de los 5025 kHz ya no
emite 24 horas, y su antena de omnidireccional paso a ser dirigida
unicamente a America del Sur, con 100 kW alternando con los 5040 kHz
de RHC".
(Glenn Hauser-OK-USA, dxld March 27)

I think their fellow countrymen within Cuba island country know the
leastway details and reason for the alternating use with a transmitter
alternately.
Ask rather Prof. Arnaldo 'Arnie' Coro at RHC directly.

RHC Quivican transmitter site contain two NVIS fountain spring like signal
antennas for 60 meterband usage. Also two independent txs for these 60mb
are at the station. Regular transmissions on both 5025 and 5040 kHz heard
regularly since Sept 2013, up to 4000 kilometrs southerly and northerly,
but limitation to approx. max.700 kms during local daytime. But either one
of the two txs has a failure at present, - or main power loss shortage -
electricity lack on the site - cannot handle a 8th tx unit at the location
properly.

60mb antennas worldwide are mostly non-directional ones. It's not known
yet, whether RHC also has built an easy 60mb dipole curtain antenna on his
property.

GERMANY [non] DW website now has the A14 transmission schedule:
<http://www.dw.de/popups/pdf/33565557/shortwave-frequencies-as-of-march-30-2014.pdf>

Despite all the rumblings about a restructuring and reduction of SW output
in 2014, I don't see any cuts in transmission hours. Perhaps those might
come later.

The 0400-0700 UT English block should still be favorable for NoAM
listeners, but the 1900-2200 UT block will be tough most of A14 due to
frequency and beam choices. Had hoped for a 19 meterband frequency to WeAF
at 2000 and 2100 UT, but no luck.

Here are recent photos from the Tbilisskaya site (for Glenn: that's what
known from HFCC data as "ARM" for Armavir and often also being referred to
under Krasnodar which in fact is 120 km away):
<http://fotkidepo.ru/?id=album:52273>

It starts with FM/TV gear. Then on the last row of page 2 what must be the
console of the transmitter used by GTRK Tatarstan on 12095 kHz (I don't
know anything else that would still have been on air there at the time the
photo was taken). On page 3 the 171 / 1089 / 1170 kHz equipment or at
least one of these transmitters, installed not before 1989, perhaps
replacing what has just been removed on page 1? And then on the last row
of page 3 and on page 4 more shortwave, also including the 1000 kW gear.
One of these transmitters used to put a huge signal of Radio Moscow and
later Voice of Russia in German into Germany. Sigh.

RUSSIA Succeeded by "Voice of Russia" new agency "Russia Today" does not
intend to continue broadcasting on medium and short waves. Thus, all
broadcasting in these bands should be discontinued from 1 April 2014.

Later broadcasts will be organized through local VHF repeaters in some
regions (most likely where they already have now), as well as via the
Internet.

Although the date of writing this report I found out that some Internet
projects will also be closed.I note that this information has not been
confirmed by official sources, as is currently the structure of the new
broadcasting agency "Russia Today" has not been formed, contracts with
potential employees have not been concluded.Earlier, the head of the new
agency "Russia Today" Dmitry Kiselev said that the structure of the
broadcast will be initially stored maximum established for many years, the
brand will not change, mass layoffs of staff are also planned.

But in fact 10 days before the end of the existence of the "Voice of
Russia" all his employees have received notice of dismissal, but no one
received a formal invitation to become an employee of the agency "Russia
Today." In the team go to various rumors and unsubstantiated promises fire
someone completely, and someone to take a new job. (Ed.)

Just learned that "the general director of the agency "Russia Today"
Dmitry Kiselev" hit the new sanctions list of Russian officials, who
published the EU.

SRI LANKA Re: PCJ Radio changing frequency again

PCJ Radio International are changing frequency again for their Sunday
hour-long broadcast (targeting SoEaAsia azimuth at 30degr from
Trincomalee, Sri Lanka):

"From Sunday March 30th our new time is 1230 to 1330 UT on 13655 kHz."
(Keith Perron on PCJ Media Facebook, via BrDXC-UK 25 March)

13655 in A-14 season, Suns only at 1230-1330 UT.

Re: PCJ Radio changing frequency again. In A-14 season 13650-13660 kHz
slot. 13655 kHz channel may work fine in East ASia instead, but further
westwards CRI and Kigali Rwanda are also on these adjacents.

13650 kHz is used by CRI Cerrik Albania relay and also Urumchi Tibet China
500 kW relay, 13660 kHz registered for TWR Kigali Rwanda 250 kW relay.
(wb, BrDXC-UK, wwdxc BC-DX TopNews March 24)

Re: 13655 PCJ Radio changing frequency again.
I HAVE CHECKED so much there this is the only frequency I can have Wolfy.
China is everywhere and jamming also. So decided to start the season on
13655 kHz and change, if the stations registered really use the
frequencies registered.

Also problem is, if I use 15 MHz which should be okay in East Asia or Far
East, South India is in signal skip zone. Very hard to try to cover all
areas with one transmitter!!! I saw Kigali Rwanda with 1300-1315 for East
Africa. Once the season starts if 13655 kHz is not giving me good signals
in target, will see operational / occupancy and change. Any suggestions??
(Victor Goonetilleke-CLN 4S7VK, BrDXC-UK March 26)

Good morning Victor,
the previous 9335/11835 kHz one was always weak and tiny signal here in
Europe.
It's not the mainlobe from TRINCO though. You should ASK at the DXers
monitors in IND, BGD -- and in INS like <richardlam11 @ xxxxxx.com>
recourse.

I can help you from posts here in Europe only little. And the Global-Tuner
receiver post in HongKong or Perseus net at Tokyo are too far easterly.
You should first wait occupancy in the new season A-14,
and then hit every decision.

Please watch these channels too, instead: 13680 and 13820 kHz in A-14.

some separate 50 kW shortwave units were put together combined to a

BBC Radio 4 LW Interruptions to Transmission.
My contacts tell me that the BBC Radio 4 transmitter at Droitwich on LW
198 kHz is scheduled for maintenance over the next three months, during
which it will be off air for extended periods during the daytime between
1000 to 1730 UT.

The maintenance works are "to ensure the continued viability of the Radio
4 LW service". This will probably be more of a frustration for the DXer or
listener than a blessing, but it will give us the chance to see how
strongly the other two transmitters in the UK are at our respective
locations.

NOSTALGIA / Need for help.

On 2 March 2013 died a Bulgarian DXer O. Chengeliev (dswci #823). One of
his latest questions was to recognize the unid radio station which was on
the air during the period 1961-1963 on around 9750-9770 kHz (we used small
tube receivers in early 60s) in times (daily) 1015-1045 UT and repeated
1800-1830 UT.

This radio without IS and ID played old rock'n'roll songs from Elvia,
Louis Prima, Bill Haley and the Commets etc. As a school boy I runned from
school to catch this station on noon. If someone know something about this
radio please let to inform me on Top News BC DX. Thank You in advance!
(Rumen Pankov-BUL, wwdxc BC-DX TopNews March 23)

Best regards,

Michael Bethge
