ARGENTINA/ARGENTINE ANTARCTICA / Antártida Argentina.
Argentina flatters my ears. Thanks to the tip from Italy, mille grazie to
Mauro Giroletti.

Two footprints this night here in Germany

15345.106 wonderful Tango music program at 1936 UT, RAE Buenos Aires in
Spanish carried "Radio Publica" magazine program. -69dBm or S=9+5dB
signal. April 21.

and

15475.976 LRA36 Radio Nacional Arcangel at 1931 UT on April 21 at MUCH
FLUTTERY -85dBm or S=7 signal.

[later] LRA36 faded out around 2125 UT tonight between Malvinas and
Germany. Seemingly schedule tonight extended til 2200 UT ?
Slightly moved down 5 Hertz now on 15475.971 kHz.

But RAE Spanish from Buenos Aires much reasonable now 24 Hertz down on
15345.082 kHz at 2134 UT April 21, and wandered downwards some more
32 Hertz, now on 15345.050 kHz at 2143 UT.

Since 2130 UT now magazine report about prominent Colombian writer Gabriel
Jose de la Concordia Garcia Marquez in Mexico City.
S=9+15dB or -58dBm signal here in Germany. Jingle "Radio Nacional" at
2135 UT on April 21.

ANTARCTICA 15476 LRA36 tuned at 2042 UT April 24 from Perseus site in
Amberg Germany (using the ALA-100 antenna - other 2 rcvrs here (crossed
loops and beverages) produced no carrier indication) with a decent carrier
signal and discernable audio - woman ann to 2049 UT fol by Argentinian
vocal/inst music. Woman ann hrd again at 2100 UT fol by more vocal/inst
music at 2105 UT. Woman ann at 2117 UT. Big signal jump at 2123 UT to S2+
to S3 when vy nice instrumental music started again. At 2134 UT woman ann
came on again until the carrier disappeared sometime between 2138 and 2140
UT (I lost connection with the Amberg ALA-100 rcvr around 2139 UT). In
moving the mode from AM to USB, the freq seemed to be right on 15476 kHz.
SINPO 1/25432 improving to S2/3 after 2100 UT. Also tried Stockholm site
and got a carrier indication but no audio - nothing seen from Karelia MW
DX site in Eastern Finland. - Thanks to Ron for the heads-up on this one!

Sign-off was at (or near) 2139 UT -they were still playing nice
instrumental music at 2130 to about 2134 UT at a good S3 level...

Re LRA36 15476 kHz, dear Bruce,

remote posts in central and eastern Europe 'across in-land' as well as
SWE/FIN deliver mostly poor tiny signals, or just a poor string on screen
only.

Not bad are the U.K. remote stn reception posts, which get propagation
across the Atlantic Ocean.

Best remote post to listen too was always of Thorvaldur Stefansson in
Iceland TF4M, he gave me the permit password in May 2013.

But unfortunatelly TF4M selled all his SDR gear like Perseus and HDSDR
etc. etc. recently and stopped using Perseus net too. That's a pity.

My wish would be Perseus remote units in access, permanently in Perseus
net like from SP Brazil, western South America BOL / PRU, western and
south Africa, and south Asia too. All they have a white spot on the map
unfortunately.

15476 LRA36. April 24 again heard an open carrier with no audio, but
weaker than yesterdays decent signal strength; heard as early as 1258 and
still on at 1435 UT. Believe my reception on 23rd was strong enough that
if they had audio I would have had some trace of it, so this is just a
case of the tx being on for an extended time? April 25 no carrier heard,
with propagation that seemed normal; checked at 1306 and 1334 UT.

COSTA RICA Future of Cariari site still unknown.

¿QUE PASARA CON EL CENTRO TRANSMISOR DE RADIO EXTERIOR DE ESPANA
- REE - EN CARIARI?

According to an unofficial source-expected a government decision of newly
elected President Luis Guillermo Solis, to decide what they will do with
transmitters and antennas from decommissioned Spanish broadcasts Tico
territory. Apparently the SINART NATIONAL BROADCAST SYSTEM, its budget has
dwindled to take the initiative to take care of that issuer center located
in Cariari, which by its geographical location would be assured of radial
coverage of the Americas and of distant continents.

These are, again, unofficial information, because until the sun today,
nothing else is known about what will happen in the future. Ideally
Costaricense the new Government will take care of that initiative, through
an agreement with the Spanish Government, if there is already a pre-
subscribed and can transmit programs to raise awareness of the culture and
the reality of this beautiful country. Squander that opportunity would be
priceless, considering that at this time no station broadcasting from the
Central American country to the world, via shortwave broadcasting.

Back was the memory of the famous Clock Radio from San Jose, World Radio
and Radio Lira Advenista International from Alajuela, Radio Casino of
Puerto Limon, TILRL Radio News Continent and many more for years allowed
us to know this part of the world. Sun rose, God will become a reality and
the new government of Costa Rica surprise us with good news!

Meanwhile, as the Ticos, Pura Vida! Say. Dawn and see!....

UKRAINE/RUSSIA In Crimea, Ukrainian FM-station was replaced by Russian.
State Special Communication Service of Ukraine will complain to the
International Telecommunication Union.

Instead Ukrainian radio stations began broadcasting in the Russian Crimea.
In the FM-band radio Russia appeared such as "Vesti FM", "Europe Plus",
"Russkoe Radio", "Autoradio", Energy, found "Capital" promonitoriv range
radio-ether. "You listen to us online?" - Asked yesterday leading radio
"News" from the caller to the radio listener from Sevastopol, not knowing
that they are already on the air.

On the radio goes both local and Russian advertising. In addition, in the
Crimean air continue to broadcast local radio stations such as, for
example, Leader FM.

General Director of "Kiss FM" Anton Tseslik says that "for good" must be
issued new licenses for broadcasting (new Crimean regulator or Russian).
But such information, he said, have neither the Crimean local broadcasters
or Ukrainian.

Official information on tenders for radio frequencies under the FM-radio
station in site Minkomsvyazi Rossii these did not appear. Minister of
Information and Communications of Crimea By Dmitry Polonskiy on a business
trip, said yesterday his assistant. At the request of the Ministry by e-
mail yesterday, no response.

Recall that in early April in the Crimea from ether lost a number of
Ukrainian radio stations. 6 In particular broadcasters "Taurus Media" -
Russian radio, Hit FM, Kiss FM, Radio Roks, Relax, Radio Melody, as well
as holding UMH - Autoradio, our radio, Europa Plus, etc." Radio Chanson
"and" Favorite Radio" (Jukebox), are included in the Business Radio Group,
and were forced to stop broadcasting in the Crimea on the background of
the situation, said yesterday, "Capital" in the source group. According to
research company "GFK Ukraine", in the southern region of Ukraine
(including Odessa, Nikolaev and Kherson) at the end of the first quarter
of 2014, there were about 1.4 million listeners aged 12 to 65 years.

According to the director, "Taurus Media" Igor Chernyshev, their partners
in the Crimea forced to disable the radio. Press secretary UMH Julia
Vasilenko added that further radio group is not technically feasible.
Yesterday, representatives of the media groups noted that the situation in
Crimea has not changed. Sales Representative Europa Plus (Ukraine) said
that some residents of Crimea listen radio online mode call and
participate in quizzes.

Head of Administration of State Special Communication Service Vladimir
Zverev notes that in the Crimea from the Russian broadcasters (including
television) not included in the broadcast rights, as radio frequency
assignment of equipment, and the equipment itself is the property of
Ukraine.

On this issue, the agency appealed to the International Telecommunication
Union and finds this flagrant violation of their rights. FM-wave in close
proximity to the warm sea can be spread over long distances and interfere
with communications of other states, if their use is not pre-harmonized at
the international level. Press secretary Roskomnadzora Vadim Ampelonskiy
said he had no information on the use of radiofrequency - one in the
Crimea, and added that such data can only clarify a few days.

USA BBG Governor Matt Armstrong Visits Edward R. Murrow Transmitting
Station at Greenville NC-USA.

On April 6-7, BBG Governor Matt Armstrong visited the Edward R. Murrow
Transmitting Station outside Greenville, North Carolina. Armstrong toured
the property and met with staff to learn more about the operations of the
facility.

"Meeting with this hard-working and dedicated staff was an honor,"
observed Matt Armstrong. "It was a valuable opportunity to have a up-close
look at the complexities and challenges of operating this historic
transmitting site."

The visit was an extension of Armstrong's work as the chair of the BBG's
Special Committee on the Future of Shortwave Broadcasting. To learn more
about the work of the committee, visit us here

UZBEKISTAN [and non] Statement regarding blocking of BBCUzbek.com
website Date: 02.04.2014 Category: World Service; Corporate
<http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/statements/peter-horrocks-uzbek.html>

The Director of the BBC World Service, Peter Horrocks, has issued the
following statement regarding the blocking of the BBCUzbek.com website.

"The BBC is committed to providing an impartial and fair news service to
its audiences in Uzbekistan and is asking Uzbek authorities to stop
blocking the BBC Uzbek site without delay. Over a period of months, BBC
Uzbek pages have become unavailable in the country, and users in
Uzbekistan want to know why the service is no longer accessible."

The BBC wrote to the Uzbek authorities about blocking, which began in
November 2013, but have had no response and no explanation. PR
(via Prof. Dr. Hansjoerg Biener-D, dxld via RUSdx April 6)

Uzbek SW broadcasts from BBC, and VOA (at least) are also jammed by the
Chinese Commmunication - on behalf of Uzbekistan, or because Uzbek is a
Turkic language understood by some in China, such as Uighurs?

ZAMBIA Ivo's blog in Bulgaria is still listing Zambia Radio 2 on 6165 as
active in A-14 (although listed as Radio 1). Keep in mind this station
has been off-air since late 2012. To narrow it down a bit, it disappeared
sometime between September 5, 2012, and January 7, 2013.

Despite regular checks I have not heard it since then and it is not there
as I write this.

#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#

Retro Radio Free Europe and News.

Our latest Retro Radio 1953 features should be online very shortly now.
There are three of them, all covering Free Europe:
Longwave/Mediumwave [AM], FM, and Shortwave.

These are fascinating ... the early days of massive shortwave broadcasting
from western Europe, Radio Andorra, Radio Luxembourg, Radio Monte Carlo,
the freedom stations, the low power Germans and Austrians on shortwave,
the start of Deutsche Welle, the large scale introduction of FM across
then Western Germany, US Armed Forces Radio stations across much of the
continent, and the strength of the BBC broadcasting to the colonies across
the world.

These new features are balanced by Retro Radio Nordic Europe 1953 and
Retro Radio Iron Curtain Europe 1953, and together cover thousands of
radio stations from Europe at a crucial time when the Cold War with the
USSR was heating up, the Korean war ending, Stalin died, Queen Elizabeth
II came to the throne ... we really do recommend the entire series.

We're now working on Retro Radio South America 1953 and Central America
1953 as well as some more new features ... and very good news, a new
scanner has been made available to us and so we can finally begin to share
more treasures from our growing archives. It's been a year without one, as
we couldn't afford one.

We ended our financial year on March 31 with unpaid operating expenses of
$5,341 which was very disappointing. But, on the bright side, we're still
here. This April we're still looking for $529 to reach our objective of
fully paying our operating expenses for the month. If you can make a
donation towards this amount this month, thank you. Remember, the whole
project [of which

<www.radioheritage.net>

is just the window into our collections of physical ephemera] is funded
only by interested supporters around the world, and you can always read
our annual reports and financial reports by clicking on the link to our
regulator at the bottom of every page.

We're thankful to all those from around the world who make donations large
and small to keep us going in this, our 10th year. Other projects have
come and gone, and many websites have just disappeared as people found
them too hard to maintain after initial bursts of energy. We see many
things come and go on Facebook as well...speaking of which, come and like
us ... we're now over 1,000 likes and growing...

As well as the Australian and New Zealand Radio Guides, work will start
again soon on the new Hawaii and Pacific Island Radio Guides ... it always
depends on volunteers. There is so much to do to keep the memories safe.

We're open 24/7 so come along and enjoy our exhibitions, features, guides,
reports, and hundreds of memories and thousands of images ... from
anywhere in the world. Still free thanks to our good supporters.

To make a donation this April, just visit
<www.radioheritage.net> and use the secure Paypal system ... and in the
meantime, look for Retro Radio Free Europe 1953 online very soon.
