ASCENSION ISL/OMAN/SINGAPORE/THAILAND BBC WS unlisted frequencies. BBCWS
English and BBC Uzbek services are object of "China Mainland White Noise
Scratching Jamming" behaviour. (wb)

15150 Just heard BBCWS English Newshour then sign-off at 1359 UT Monday
Aug 25 on unlisted 15150 kHz. Does anyone know the TX site please?
(Jonathan Kempster-UK, BrDXC-UK Aug 25)

Yes, via Thailand relay - 15150 kHz is one of the variable frequencies
used by BBCWS in the 1300-1400 UT slot on Sundays and Mondays instead of
scheduled 15310 (other days on 15660 or 15310) kHz.

There is a full list of these variables in the June issue of Communication
(DX News) - page 35.

BBCWS are switching certain frequencies around from day to day to try and
combat Chinese jamming but its seems guaranteed to confuse listeners...
(Dave Kenny-UK, BrDXC-UK Aug 25)

[U.K. non] BBCWS, 15650, [Mon] Aug 18, heard at 0010 UT, fair to poor
reception. Listened to news with stories about ISIS in Iraq and Michael
Brown situation in Ferguson, MO, USA. 0030 UT with news headlines followed
by Business Matters program.
(Larry Zamora-TX-USA, dxld Aug 20)

Site? Probably not UK. HFCC as of August 3 has nothing on 15650 kHz. Aoki
Nagoya list however shows via THAILAND at 00-01 UT but only on Mon/Tue/Thu
since May 15, because it's jammed by the ChiCom, 25 degrees so also
USward. Some other frequencies are non-daily, but they don't add up to
cover all 7 days.

AUSTRALIA 2368.48, Radio Symban / Radio La Manamea Samo on Aug 9 at 1127
UT, R Symban at barely threshold level at 1127 UT tune on Aug 9 from
Perseus site in Edmonton AB. By 1145 UT segments of Greek music were
identifiable to past 1200 UT but reception could only be described as S-1
with an occasional foray to S-2 after 1145 UT. The gray line passed
Edmonton between 1145 and 1200 UT so reception started getting noisier
after 1200 UT. Cannot match Ron's excellent recordings from either
Edmonton or my home QTH - I need a good beach site, Hi!

Von Einschraenkungen bei der ueberwiegenden technischen Verbreitung bei

CHINA 5860 / 6200 Voice of Jinling - Advantage within the agreed return
time of day, in case they succeeded stations on the same channel and time

frequencies and in many moments of the day. Among other things, the QSL

(Link "QSL Manager" in the upper right corner) track, showing the
relationship of listening, I politely asked to know the community of
radioascolto of this opportunity, of course, well detailed. I waited again
in October, the best time for listening, but I think in July, the
irreparable has happened: Voice of Jinling from 5860 kHz has shifted to
6200 kHz, where there is also Tibet.

In the USA, correctly, argue that they are dominant Voice of Jinling, but
we are more 'close' to Tibet, then to the maximum hear in the background,
unless a miracle of propagation. At the limit, it is known that transmits
Voj often jazz music. But you also know that Jonathan wants to register
and amateur, so if you use web-sdr receivers do not think local noticing
easily.

GREENLAND Greenland to return to MW.

Stig Hartvig Nielsen writes in MWDX:
Good news from Greenland. It has been revealed a few hours ago, that KNR
is to return to three Medium Wave frequencies following a lot of criticism
about the lack of reception of KNR on the sea and outside towns and
villages in Greenland.

Three MW frequencies are expected to return:

Qeqertarsuaq - anytime between October 1st and December 1st 2014
Nuuk - anytime between January and March 2015
Simiutaq, Qaqortoq - approx. June 1st 2015

No frequencies nor powers were quoted, but previously they were:

Qeqertarsuaq - 650 kHz ( 5 kW)
Nuuk - 570 kHz ( 5 kW)
Simiutaq, Qaqortoq - 720 kHz (10 kW)

And 650 kHz is of course the most commonly reported KNR frequency reported
in Europe.

[later] GREENLAND KNR Greenland. I had news from Greenland today
confirming frequencies and power of the three Medium Wave transmitters
which are due to reopen in the next months:

Qeqertarsuaq - 650 kHz (5 kW) - due on the air in Oct or Nov 2014.
Nuuk - 570 kHz (5 kW) - due on the air in Jan, Feb or Mar 2015.
Simiutaq, Qaqortoq - 720 kHz (10 kW) - due on the air around June 1st
2015.

With the reopening of these three MW frequencies, all plans about the
launch of a Short Wave transmitter in Greenland have been given up for the
time being.

When all three MW transmitters are back on the air, it will decided if
more MW frequencies are to be relaunched.

Taken from Wiki:
Polish people are the sixth largest national group in the European Union.
Estimates vary depending on source, though available data suggest a total
number of around 60 million people worldwide (with roughly 21 million
living outside of Poland, many of whom are not of Polish ethnicity, but
Polish nationals). There are almost 38 million Poles in Poland alone.

There are also Polish minorities in the surrounding countries including
Germany, and indigenous minorities in the Czech Republic, Hungary,
Lithuania, Ukraine, and Belarus. There are some smaller indigenous
minorities in nearby countries such as Moldova and Latvia. There is also a
Polish minority in Russia which includes indigenous Poles as well as those
forcibly deported during and after World War II; the total number of Poles
in what was the former Soviet Union is estimated at up to 3 million.

The term "Polonia" is usually used in Poland to refer to people of Polish
origin who live outside Polish borders, officially estimated at around 10
to 20 million. There is a notable Polish diaspora in the United States,
Canada, and Brazil. France has a historic relationship with Poland and has
a relatively large Polish-descendant population. Poles have lived in
France since the 18th century. In the early 20th century, over a million
Polish people settled in France, mostly during world wars, among them
Polish émigrés fleeing either Nazi occupation or later Soviet rule.

Nice to see we checked out many of the same stations today. Overall
conditions were very poor, except for stations from Malaysia. They were
very strong today (except Traxx FM remains silent on 7295 kHz). Asyik FM
and Radio Klasik (5964.69 kHz) were especially good.

One other station of note that was doing well today was AIR Aizawl on
5050 kHz. For several days they have been heard with the news in English
at 1230 UT; even stronger than, but mixing with BBR (China). Will be a
serious challenge to hear Craig's Australian transmitter when he resumes

4755.54 PMA, The Cross R, Pohnpei, at 1206-1417 UT on Aug 06 and 07,
strange happenings here: I heard strong open carrier after their usual
sign off time at 1200 UT with no audio at all; normally the transmitter
automatically goes off after the DTMF tones, but not so these days. On Aug
07 good audio from 1334 UT mostly contemporary Christian songs, 1355 UT:
"It is one o'clock and this is the Cross Radio, 88.5 FM." Why are their
IDs so far off from top of the hour? Almost fair. Since Aug 06, through
Aug 12, have found the station has either turned off the DTMF tones or the
tones are simply not working any more; heard long after their normal sign
off time (1159* UT); often noted as late as 1400 UT. But at 1300 UT on Aug
13, not heard, so the DTMF tones must be working again to automatically
turn off their transmitter.

MYANMAR/NORWAY Democratic Voice of Burma to end radio broadcasting.

At the end of October, the Democratic Voice of Burma (DVB) will stop
producing its ethnic language radio program after 21 years of
broadcasting, a decision revealed yesterday during a meeting of staff
members from DVB's Ethnic Groups' Program.

"Because there are more and more magazines and journals [being
distributed] in the country, the audience [listening through] short-wave
radio has become smaller. We broadcast the news at six in the morning and
nine in the evening, but at those times the audience has demonstrated a
preference for newspapers and journals instead of waiting for us," said
DVB editor U Khin Maung Soe.

According to a US-based group which collects data on short-wave radio
audiences in Burma, the DVB's short-wave radio programs only attract 2% of
the Burmese exile radio station audience, the smallest percentage among
the four exile stations.

Due to such small audience numbers, DVB donors have suggested that the
organization stop broadcasting radio programs and produce TV media
programs instead. However, changing from radio to TV broadcasting may pose
challenges and difficulties for those in charge of the DVB's Ethnic
Groups' Program.

"Although at the previous meeting it was mentioned that TV training would
be conducted, and assistance for any necessary technical training would be
provided, nothing has been implemented yet. And now, in the past 1-2
months the situation has changed and we haven't had time to prepare," said
the director of the Karenni ethnic program. During yesterday's Ethnic
Groups' Program online meeting, broadcast directors from the DVB's Ethnic
Groups' Program discussed common difficulties posed by TV production. For
example, given the fact that the directors live on the Thai-Burmese border
they find it difficult to obtain video footage and voice recordings. They
also mentioned the lack of video-editing devices and materials as well as
technical IT knowledge. The DVB's current ethnic language radio program is
broadcast in Kachin, Karenni, Karen, Chin, Mon, Rakhine, and Shan
languages.

The Democratic Voice of Burma is a non-profit media organization based in
Chiang Mai, Thailand. Run by Burmese expatriates, it makes radio and
television broadcasts aimed at providing uncensored news and information
about Burma (also known as Myanmar), the country's military regime, and
its political opposition.

In July 1992, DVB began broadcasting programming into Burma via shortwave
radio. According to DVB, these broadcasts reach millions of listeners. On
May 28, 2005, DVB expanded its programming and began satellite
television[!] broadcasts into the country. The organization stated that it
hoped to reach some ten million Burmese through this new effort (which it
claims is the first free and independent Burmese language television
channel), which was funded in part by non-governmental organizations such
as Free Voice of the Netherlands, the National Endowment for Democracy,
and the Freedom of Expression Foundation.

PAKISTAN 100-kW digital transmitter operational at Radio Pakistan
Hyderabad

<https://www.facebook.com/DGRadioPakistan>

Radio Pakistan Hyderabad went on air with its new 100-kilowatt digital
transmitter on its 59th founding anniversary on Sunday.

Director General Radio Pakistan Samina Parvez unveiled the plaque marking
formal commissioning of the transmitter at an impressive ceremony. She
also cut the anniversary cake on the occasion.

Addressing the audience, the director general expressed the pleasure that
Hyderabad radio which has a glorious past, has entered into the age of
digitization. She hoped that the station would go a long way to promote
both Pakistani and Sindhi cultures in a vast region.

Samina Parvez hailed the role of Hyderabad radio in the construction and
development of the region, promotion of culture, and welfare of the people
particularly during wars of 1965 and 1971, and natural calamities such as
hurricanes and floods. In this connection, she particularly quoted setting
up of "Mehran Mauj Studio" during super flood.

The Director General was happy that Radio Pakistan Hyderabad had produced
legends like film star late Muhammad, Mustafa Qureshi, Reshma, Ibrahim
Nafees and Himayat Ali Shaer.

Similarly, it introduced prominent Sindhi artistes like Ustad Umeed Ali
Khan, Ustad Muhammad Jumman, Robina Qureshi, Abida Parveen, Mai Bhagi,
Alan Faqir and Sanam Marvi, who acclaimed the international repute.

Later, a musical evening was also held in which Ambar Mehak, Akbar
Khamisu, Faisal Aziz, Abdullah Khan, Diba Sehar, Muhammad Aziz, Taj
Mastani, Amir Ali Haider Ali and other artistes performed.

Hyderabad radio had initially started its journey with a two kilowatt
small transmitter 59 years ago. After installation of 100-kilowatt
digitized transmitter, quality broadcasts of Hyderabad station would be
listened in a radius of 150 kilometers during the day and up to 250
kilometers at night.

Launching of new transmitter at Hyderabad is part of gigantic program to
replace the old transmitters of Radio Pakistan. Transmitters at Peshawar
and Dera Ismail Khan stations have already been replaced. (12 Fotos).

SOLOMON ISLS 945 (Gizo, Western Province) and 1386 kHz, (Lata, Temotu
Province) have been off the air for quite some time. Personally, I doubt
that they will ever return to MW again.

It's simply a matter of expense; essentially the cost of diesel to run the
generator. The SIBC doesn't have the cash. FM will become much more
common. This is partly due to the fact that many more mobile phone
transmission sites are appearing across the country (both Telekom and Bee
Mobile) and FM antennae can co-site with this equipment.

In fact, the Chairman of the SIBC happens to be the former Chief Engineer
of the SIBC, and now the CEO of SI Telekom. While I regret the demise of
the MW stations (because they had greater reach, especially at night), I
rejoice that SW is still operational and has been upgraded. Likewise,
better that many listeners have access to an FM signal (which is within
the SIBC's budget) than people have nothing. By the way, if you have a QSL
from Gizo or Lata on MW, I think you are holding a rarity in your hand!
