ALBANIA 7389.981 kHz Albania 7389.981 kHz on December 4
at 0940-1000 UT time slot.

Hello dear Drita,
came across of Radio Tirana's Albanian morning service to southern
Europe/Balcan target, scheduled 0800-1000 UT, this morning Dec 4th.

Radio Tirana Shijak broadcast transmission heard here in Stuttgart
southern Germany with more than fair S=9+10dB signal strength.

A little 50 Hertz audio buzz tone underneath, came from the Shijak
transmitter
p e a k signals of ± 25 / ± 50 Hz like a garden fence, symmetrically
visible on software defined receiver radio browser screen in PC at

± 25 Hz, 50, 75, 100, 150, 250, 450 Hertz.

At 0940 UT program talk in Albanian was on "melodia flute music" by male
presenter and performed some flute music "cope te muzikes".

I believe subject was talk on Albanian's Partizan music in WW II ?

Compared or influenced? by Tito's, Soviet Russian and Anglo-American army
musican contacts these WW II days.

Radio Tirana station identification by female presenter concluded this
morning transmission from Shijak at 09.59:29 UT, and transmitter switch-
OFF at 09.59:40 UT then.

ANGUILLA [and non] Caribbean Beacon, 6090 suffers a lot of this
vagabonding shrap shrap noise signal, likely strange Cuban jamming
spurious? - or also "TADIL-A bonker" digital signal of Air Force or
Marines? on 6084.95 to 6089.3 kHz strings visible range? Signal strings
looks like same as jamming visible on 7405 kHz though. Noted on some
Boston Massachusetts remote SDR unit logs.

Brasilia on 11780v kHz at same time.

reported change in foreign language schedule timing at RAE. At 0201 UT
French ID and service started with tango music from 0202 UT.

ARMENIA/GEORGIA{Abkhazia}/GREECE/HUNGARY/ITALY 1350 On a very
interesting frequency MW 1350 kHz here are observed regularly many

Azerbaijan ? Heard in June 2014:

AZERBAIJAN [Nagorno-Karabakh] 11760-11761 I received e-mail from
Mikhail Timofeyev: Ivo, I have one question: one unidentified ME/SoAS
station is on 11760 kHz with awful modulation/audio during the evenings
at 1700-2000 UT at least, and at other time, maybe even 24 hours. Their
transmitter is faulty and their wide signal is between 11750 and 11770
kHz. Do you have any info about it?

Looks like as Radio Karabakh on 9677 kHz, or faulty Egyptian tx, etc.
Thanks!

Further chex of 9465 kHz for the Global 24 test via Spaceline, Kostinbrod,
UT Nov 22 only: at 0712 UT, 9465 is a JBA carrier, while sufficient 9395
kHz WRMI has Bob Zanotti interviewing Andy Sennitt about how he became
WRTH Editor (no one else applied for the position, AFAHK). That would be
on 'Switzerland in Sound', probably recorded a long time ago.

At 1318 UT on Nov 22, 9465 kHz is inaudible, and 9395 kHz has Keith Perron
speaking informally (how else?), during scheduled 'Happy Station' during
this hour on Saturdays. At 1321 UT I note there is ute clatter on 9460
kHz.

Next check at 1346 UT, 9465 kHz is occupied by FEBC Philippines in Chinese
and music: only this half-hour has a conflict, and I assume it's
overridden in Europe at least by G24. FEBC IS plays after 1400 UT until
cut off at 1402.3* UT still no G24 audible, and a semiminute later at
*1402.8 UT, WTWW-1 cuts on 9475 kHz, blasting away any possibility of 9465
G24 here.

At 1709 UT, 9395 kHz is very poor, and 9465 kHz is totally inaudible but
seems to be getting good results in Western Europe.

9465.002 probably old Soviet USSR transmitter hardware gear at Spaceline

quality. Noted on November 22 at 10 to 12 UT hour, here in central Europe.
Played "Jazz around the hour" followed by "Rock Pile" mix program of 1966
year. Joe Cocker "Feelin' Alright" and Spencer Davis group followed in
12-13 UT slot.

"Propagation Sofia - to Germany -, signal in 31 meterband will expected to
be increased in our midwinter noon after 14 UT"

At 1500 the signal was indeed pretty good, except for the less-than-ideal
quality of the modulation. But at 2000 UT it already had faded out almost
completely and 9395 kHz was again stronger (as such still being poor and
unlistenable). Of course it's rather trivial: At noon 11 or even 15 MHz
would have been the right choice, now at night nothing above 7 MHz.

flute/violin tune & (pres) ID/sked in CH at 1605* UT. Better on 31mb (esp.

9520 Nei Menggu PBS, Hohhot. Have been trying for this one for several
mornings, and after hearing Myanmar, checked this frequency ... and whoa
... a really nice signal coming in with long talks and language lesson of
some sort, with musical breaks. Dispute the very strong presents of CRI on
9525 kHz, best in LSB with 2.4 filter helped to bring a nice recording.
I checked their // but a unstable signal and could not confirm if in
parallel. Again nice s2-s4 and just like that gone by 1551 UT hrs.
Very unusual propagation conditions to say the least.

re 7420.0 Nei Menggu PBS, Hohhot check at 1530 UT today Nov 27:

COLOMBIA 5910-, Nov 30 at 0607 UT, HJDH is active again, song in the

GERMANY 6110drm Radio Andernach, Nauen testet heute Morgen ?

Guten Morgen allerseits, z.Zt. um 0930 UT Dec 4, DRM Signal auf 6110 kHz
zugange, die Sendungen laufen aber nachts 02-04 UT ins Seegebiet vor
Somalia, Kenya, Oman etc.

GREECE Yes, really only two! of three transmitters at Avlis Greece on
air, Nov 23 at 1505 UT. Noted 9420.004 kHz powerful outlet transmissions
towards western Europe, Atlantic and further towards North America across
Atlantic Ocean.

But also on 11644.986 kHz transmission likely north-south towards
Africa/SoAmerica?, with propeller airscrew noise disturbed by broadband
OTHR 11657-11682 kHz centered, and wider sidebands also on 11631 to 11702
kHz range !!! Strings on like garden fence every ±88 Hertz distance apart
distance, 8 times seen each sideband, visible on Perseus browser window,
these belong also to 11645v Avlis transmission, NOT OTHR!

11644.986 kHz ERT-open stopped transmission at 1556:40 UT today Nov 23.
And appeared when tuned in around 16 UT on both (!)9415.004 and 15630.035
kHz, latter much stronger than 11645v before.

And surprise also 3rd Avlis unit (accompanied with propeller airscrew
sound!) appeared from 16 UT on 9934.994 kHz, but wandered upwards
to 9935 kHz even frequency.

Avlis at 22-23 UT Nov 24, only on 9935 and 15630 kHz, but not on 9420 kHz.

Noted ERT-open with classical music "The Flower Duet" from Léo Delibes at
0535 UT on Tuesday Nov 25 morning. Later much great Greek music was
played. On quick check ERT-open via Avlis site was heard very early before
and around 0450 UT on 9420, 9935, and 15630 kHz.

But next check at 0515 UT frequencies had changed and measured as
11645.009 kHz - NO PROPELLER SOUND ANYMORE - proper S=9+20dB noted with
clean fine audio signal, heard here in southern Germany

and also powerhouse 9420.005 kHz S=9+35dB, as well as

15630.034 kHz, weak - is a skipped signal here in central Europe.
But heard well at Moscow and also at Nagoya Japan premote SDR post,
about S=8-9 signal.

Latter likely eastwards ERT-open Avlis via antenna 105 degrees, - or even
46 or 80degrees curtain are in use?

11645v best signal in Moscow / St.Pt., so seemingly the 004/184 degrees
antenna is in use at this hour in 25 mb.

9420 & 9935 kHz, on Nov 26 at 0332 UT, ERT-open is on 9420 kHz on Nov 27
at 0624 UT, Greek talk and music, good with flutter. Not audible on 9935
or 11645 kHz; suspect not all three transmitters are simulfunxional any
more.

ERT-open via Avlis playing very nice Greek folk music at 0450 UT Nov 24 on
15630.037 kHz, and more powerful in Germany in 04-05 UT slot on 9420.005
and 9934.988 kHz

15630.038, 'Kalimera' given at 0621 UT Nov 24 of ERT-open Avlis, noted S=8
or -74dBm signal downunder in Queensland Australia remote unit.

// 9420.004 and 11644.976 kHz. Latter broadcast suffered again on faulty
audio modulation of propeller airscrew tones at the station, visible 12 x
each sideband a ±106 Hertz distanz apart tone strings on Perseus browser,
in 11642 to 11647 kHz range.

Sorry, Propeller sound is back on ERT-open broadcast, when checked at 0620
UT Nov 25. And transmitter moved now down from 11645.009 kHz to 11644.973
kHz on lower side. Frequency measured is unstable, hopps up/down 2-3 Hertz
now. In the first hour from 05 UT on 11645v kHz I heard a clean audio on
this frequency.

11645v kHz broadcast suffered again on faulty audio modulation of
propeller airscrew tones at the transmission. Browser signal screen shows
a heavy garden like FENCE of peaks visible, like 16 x ±120 Hertz on either
sideband, also well more 8 x ±60 Hertz - midst - apart distance too,
on ±60, 120, 180, 300 Hertz distance etc. Signal is up to 24 kHz wide.

ERT-open, music stopped at 0810 UT, - for Tuesday engineering
maintenance procedure? Heard only 'empty carrier' and test tones now.

15650.034 kHz.

Between 18 and 19 UT on Nov 27 heard ERT-open on air 9420 kHz, with
propeller airscrew noise sound ! and // 9935 kHz, 15630 kHz too.

At 23-04 UT, noted at 0135 UT Nov 28 on 9420.005, 9935.006,

AIR Jeypore on 5040 kHz operating on lower power.

In reply to my detailed monitoring report on reception quality covering
last night and this morning's transmission of AIR Jeypore on 5040 kHz,
D.R.Praised, Dy.Director General (E) I/c AIR Jeypore promptly wrote me -
"I thank you very much for the feedback on our transmission. We are still
struggling to improve the performance of this 50 kw shortwave transmitter
manufactured by continental Electric Corporation of USA. Due to
nonavailability of spares, it is being operated at 25 kw power. We look
forward to get your feedback once it is right fully." Hope my Dxer friend
will enjoy sharing this information.

4850, AIR Kohima on Nov 30 with one of their rare SW broadcasts; special
transmission on the eve of the Hornbill Festival and 50th anniversary
celebration of Nagaland Legislative Assembly. To mark these special
events, India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi is currently visiting
Nagaland. Should be on the air again tomorrow.
<http://www.hornbillfestival.com/>

Highlights from tune in at 1212, to tune out at 1425 UT:

1212-1258*: Program of typical Christians songs; it should be pointed
out that Nagaland is predominantly Christian. Went off the air for some
minutes.

1304-1315: Back on with program schedule in English; Hawaii style
songs.

1315-1340: Indigenous language (Naga) program; jingle in Hindi for
advertisement; started and ended with unique stringed indigenous
instrument.

1340-1400: First news in Hindi, followed by same news in English;
info about all the dignitaries visiting Nagaland and the special live
Web feed from the Hornbill Festival.

1400-1425: Long series of speeches in English; starting with one
by the "Honourable Governor of Nagaland"; played National Anthem.

Poor reception, but at times semi-readable; many IDs; almost no QRM
from Xinjiang PBS, also on 4850 kHz.

INDIA 4850 AIR Kohima. Dec 3 - Have not heard Kohima's evening
broadcast again, not since Nov 30. Seems they only broadcasts the Hornbill

Fortunately Gautam Kumar Sharma (Abhayapuri, Assam, India) was able to
hear their morning broadcast the next day starting at 0129 UT on Dec 1.
His blog has some nice audio clips, which are much better than my recorded

INDIA ALL INDIA RADIO Closes Five Shortwave Stations.

Last month, All India Radio announced the closure of five of its shortwave
facilities, located in regional areas of India. These five transmitters,
each rated at 50 kW, were located at Gorakhpur, Gauhati, Jammu, Mumbai and

All of these transmitters, each operating at 50 kW, were officially

IRELAND Calls for RTÉ to retain longwave 252 kHz radio service.

Ministers are being urged to intervene and work with RTÉ to retain the
broadcaster's longwave radio service.

The service is due to end early next year after RTÉ postponed a decision
to close the transmitter until 19 January.

Minister for the Diaspora Jimmy Deenihan, Minister for Foreign Affairs
Charlie Flanagan and Minister for Communications Alex White are being
asked to step in and get the national broadcaster to continue the service.

Founder of Globalirish.ie Noreen Bowden said it had received thousands of
names as part of a petition to keep longwave.

Ms Bowden said the organisation had received around 1,000 names from
Manchester in the UK alone.

She called on all the ministers involved to intervene and work with RTÉ to
keep the service.

Fr Brian D'Arcy called for the service to be extended for five more years
to facilitate some of those who still use the service.

He said it would be a Christmas present for a lonely man or woman sitting
in London to know they will be retaining the service.

In a statement, RTÉ said it has met representatives from Irish community
groups in the UK on the issue of transition from longwave and is
considering their submissions carefully.

Mr Deenihan said he has written to RTÉ's Director General to make him
aware of the depth of concerns among the Irish community in Britain
regarding the longwave service.

In a statement this evening, Mr Deenihan said while he appreciates this is
an operational matter for RTÉ, he hopes a way can be found to address
these concerns over the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, Mr White said that while the Government has no role in RTÉ's
operational decisions his department has been briefed on the rationale for
the cessation of the service.

Mr White said he is assured that RTÉ is working with the Irish Embassy in
London to ensure it's audience in Britain is aware of the various ways to
enjoy Radio 1.

<per -at- eriksson.eu>
checked 4760 kHz last night Nov 25, but signal was very weak, and only
communication talk each other of two Italian fishermen(?) could be easily
heard on this channel.

But according to Aoki list, ELWA on program schedule start from 0600 UT,
program from Liberia could be heard at 0620 UT on Nov 26 as tiny signal
precise 2 Hertz upper side. After 0645 UT tiny signal fade-out again.

Mostly a female voice reader could be heard, small piece of music, but due
of very low signal strength, nothing real word content could be traced so
far. But I guess, in coming months - til end of February - we will be
happy to hear this station more properly 'now and then' here in Europe in
our mornings.

Procedure: I had to select only the upper sideband flank, due of permanent
CODAR wiper signal moving up and down in 4741 to 4759.3 kHz frequency
range. Also a CW morse code signal noted short pieces of 20 seconds each
on 4762 kHz, - but not real a disturbtion.

Maybe our German pensionists and Dxers at Denia Spain and Menorca island
will hear more positively on this matter.

PAKISTAN 585 Radio Pakistan installs modern digital
500 kW transmitter at Faqeerabad.

Radio Pakistan has installed a modern digital 500 kW transmitter at
Faqeerabad to multiply the outreach of its medium wave broadcasts
on 585 kHz.

The transmitter, along with renovation of studios at National Broadcasting
House, has been installed with the technical and financial assistance of
Japan.

The signing ceremony to hand over renovated studios and transmitter to PBC
was held at National Broadcasting House Islamabad on Thursday. Director
General PBC, Samina Parvez and Department Manager of Yachiyo Engineering,
Kiyofusa Tanaka signed the documents.

In her remarks on the occasion, Director General PBC thanked the Japanese
government for helping PBC in strengthening its signal and modernizing its
broadcasting system.

She said induction of new transmitter is another milestone reached by the
PBC management in its endeavour to replace its obsolete and aging
transmitters to cater its audience. The listeners in several parts of the
country will enjoy radio programmes in clear voice. She said it is a
matter of pride for PBC to have completed the project on time.

Addressing the ceremony, Kiyofusa Tanaka said the completion of this
project marks is yet another milestone in Pakistan-Japan relationship. He
appreciated the effort put in by the staff of PBC for timely completion of
this landmark project.

The objective of 'The project for rehabilitation of medium wave radio
broadcasting network' executed with grant-aid of 'Japan International
Cooperation Agency [JICA] was to rehabilitate dying medium wave service of
Radio Pakistan Islamabad for effective coverage in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,
FATA, Punjab and Gilgit-Balitstan.

Under the project, 38 year old medium wave transmitter at Faqeerabad was
replaced with a new 500 kW medium wave transmitter, based on latest
digital technology. Besides, five Studios and master control room at
National Broadcasting House were also digitized.

JICA provided grant-aid of 1,385 million Japanese Yen while Pakistan's
government's share was 85.761 million rupees.

M/s Yachiyo Engineering Company of Japan executed the project while M/s
NEC Corporation, Japan supplied and installed equipments.

On-job training was also given to the PBC engineers to effectively run the
system.

Programme in seven language, including Urdu, Punjabi, Potohari, Hindko,
Pushto, Shina, and Balti will be aired on 585 kHz for listeners in 500
kilometer radius as compared with 70 kilometer radius in past. However,
this transmission can be heard in a radius of up to 1,200 kilometers at
night.

Fourteen hours programmes will be aired from the transmitter on 585 kHz
from tomorrow.

USA 7490.291 [correxion] Very odd frequency WHRI {sic, thanks to Glenn
which explained that WBCQ worked overtime, is here instead on this
channel, wb.}

Heard with in English at 0600-0603 UT on Nov 30,
hopping around approx. 5 - 10 Hertz, tiny S=4-5 signal, compared signal
to Cuban jamming 7485 kHz and WRMI 7570 kHz TOM S=9+5dB. When checked
again at 0610 UT Nov 30, W... - station had disappeared, NIL signal
anymore.
(wb, wwdxc BC-DX TopNews Nov 30)

WHRI? Are you sure? I was listening to 7490v and it was WBCQ {program}.

And it's WBCQ that is always off-frequency.

7490, then I tune down to WBCQ and find the STF closing beeps still going
past 0600 UT, so must have started late: 0604 UT finally sign-off by Allan
Weiner. This one had some Cuban pulse jamming as usual from the lo side
circa 7488 kHz.

[later] As for the jamming, I've only heard the Cuban pulsing kind just
on the lo side of 7490 kHz. 7405 jamming would sound different, because
right on Marti frequencies there are multiple jamming transmitters
overlapping, going full-bore.
(Glenn Hauser-OK-USA, dxld Nov 30)

Signal strength was very low for such a South Carolina signal ... okay,
right WBCQ matches the low power.

Cuban jamming like type on 7486 to 7490 kHz, scratches measured, center
7488 kHz. Or is military ? border radar ? sound like anvil-banging around
6135 kHz like TADIL-A bonker. 7405 jamming sounds different at same time.

Interesting at 1930 UT Dec 3 I am hearing a station with music only on

here indicate some station on that frequency. Anyone has an Idea ?

[later] 9930 kHz carrier high pitch tone. Another weird transmission at
2120 UT 9930 kHz ... carrier with a high pitch sound ... it seems to get
