ALASKA From Rob Scobey, Senior Producer for International English: As I
write this-our engineers in Anchor Point, Alaska are in the final stages
of completing repairs to the mesh antenna that sends the signal of KNLS to
the Eastern Hemisphere. Weather conditions finally improved enough to
allow repair crews to have access to the site. For the time being-KNLS
will operate off of one transmitter and antenna. So the English hour will
be broadcast three times a day rather than the normal four broadcasts plus
one simulcast. Our next step is to get the new transmitter-that is, the
second of two transmitters-hooked up to the second antenna. Once that's
done-the English hour will be back to our full schedule.

9920 at 1522- UT, KNLS on June 20. Very nice to see them back. Lovely
S=9+20 signal. This is my favourite religious broadcaster, since the
departure of HCJB. They actually have enjoyable programming and nice
music. Not at all like the usual paid programmers that ramble on and on!
Paved Paradise and put up a parking lot until 1525 UT. Then into a movie
review.

ARGENTINA 11710.774, at 0430- UT, Radio Argentina al Exterior on June
20. Fair signal with weak modulation, but mainly marred by splatter from a
sick transmitter, presumably Brasil on 11780. On the Perseus I can see the
noise way above and below the frequency. Buzzy, hash sound. Too bad, as it
makes most of the 25 meter band unuseable! Listed Chinese at this time.

ARGENTINA 6056v RAE / R. Nacional Off-freq again at 0954 UT with start
of the RAE IS routine. Strong at t/in but weakening. Drifting down as well
and only 1 kHz away from 6055 kHz Nikkei Japan by 1001 UT.

15344.13 RAE / Radio Nacional 1208 UT Tango mx. 1211 UT tlk by W anncr in
PT. Later at 1300 UT, caught time ticks and IS routine briefly and SP ID
by W. Weak. Went off the air at 1530:32 UT. Signal came back on at 1646:11
UT on 15345.14 kHz, but Egypt was on until 1754:39 UT. Could then hear
just bits of audio. Finally able to recognize EG at 1848 UT. Went into the
usual IS/ID routine at 1855 UT. Finally up to good level by 2145 UT.

On late tonight on both 9420 and 9935 kHz with the latter free of tones!!!
So, I guess the transmitter or whatever the problem was has been fixed.
The two frequencies were noted with about equally good strength at about
0150 UT here in New Brunswick.

International Radio Serbia is closed [on shortwave Bijeljina-Bosnia]. Only
the Serbian radio station broadcast on the leading foreign countries in
12 languages and its website, most likely, will be closed on July 1. The
closure comes just in time for the 80th anniversary of the shortwave radio
Belgrade, many times to change the name and is now known as the
International Radio Serbia (and in securities still Radio Yugoslavia).

For several weeks the radio station employees hold protest actions in
front of the Serbian government, trying to bring the problem to the
attention of the public, supported by the International Radio Serbia as
representatives of the embassies of Serbia abroad and foreign diplomats in
Belgrade, but all their efforts proved fruitless. The Serbian government
has worked in its decision to withdraw from the media and the closure of
the radio station.

During the bombing of Yugoslavia in 1999 the radio transmitter from the
early days became the target of attacks of the aggressor. Employees of the
station in a letter sent to the Government reminded the Prime Minister
Alexander Vucic, then headed by the Ministry of Information and later the
Ministry of Defence about the events of those years.

"Our short-wave transmitter in Stubline" bombed and razed. Probably
because he "was not strategically important." We are confident that, as a
former minister of defense, you understand what is the meaning of short
waves in this region", - stated in the letter.
(RuSerbia.com, OnAir.ru, RUSdx June 28)

The interested public and students of the International Radio Serbia
(Radio Yugoslavia) act with a petition to prevent the closure of this
important Serbian media. International Radio Serbia is broadcast daily to
broadcasts in Serbian and 11 other foreign languages, and its programs
available on the Internet
<www.glassrbije.org> and <www.voiceofserbia.org>

Television, which is a kind of informal diplomacy, and today an
indispensable means of promoting the country's image. It should be noted
that the International Radio Serbia is a one!

th of the oldest short wave radio stations in the world. It was founded
six years earlier, "Voice of America". Foreign broadcasts began March 8,
1936 in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. (Info Station)

No hope for Radio Yugoslavia, Mon 29 June 2015.

The new deadline for the privatization of media will be October 31 this
year, it has been concluded in the amendments to the Law on public
information and media, which have been passed today in the Serbian
Assembly. Despite the heated debate and several suggested amendments that
asked for the deadline to be extended until October 31 for the Radio
Yugoslavia, too, the MPs have not accepted that suggestion. The report of
Mirjana Nikolic.

The resolve of the Ministry of Culture and Information to have the changes
to the law adopted in the exact form that had envisaged was evident from
the beginning of the session, when it was communicated that the Government
had not accepted any of 35 proposed amendments. Three of those amendments
were relation to our radio, so several delegates from both the ruling
coalition and the opposition parties have asked that the International
Radio Serbia be offered the chance to survive. The longest and best
supported case for our house was presented by the whip of the Socialist
Party's MP club Dijana Vukomanovic, who reminded of the significance of
informing the world public and Diaspora in 12 languages. She has pledged
for pondering one more time in the ministry on keeping the media house,
whose expenses are multiple times smaller than the Tanjug Agency, but the
response was clear. Minister of Culture and Media Ivan Tasovac has
underlined that we live in a digital era, the short waves being a matter
of the past, and while there was readiness to do it, the solution could
not have been found. In order to dispel any dilemma, he stressed that the
employees should not be offered false hope, i.e. that with the modest
social program all 96 workers of the International Radio Serbia will be
rendered jobless as of August 1.

Our case was also discussed by the president of the Board for Culture and
Information, Vesna Marjanovic of the Democratic Party, who asked for the
equal treatment, and why do reporters in the local media or Tanjug have
wider rights than those in the state-owned media. The independent MP from
the Movement for Turnover Janko Veselinovic also stood in defense of the
amendment by raising the question of who will get the short wave frequency
of Serbia, but his question was not answered. The only thing sure is that
the property of the Radio Yugoslavia is yet to be decided upon by the
Serbian Government. The delegates of the Progressive Party have supported
the extinguishing of our radio, albeit admitting they do not exactly know
what is at issue. On the other side, it was noticeable that the same party
was in favor of keeping the Tanjug Agency within the state ownership.

That way, the current Serbian Government, just like all those after 2000,
has shown they are only interested in the interior political influence,
while the promotion of the country abroad is not the priority. The MPs
have been told that numerous eminent people from the domains of sport and
culture, as well as many listeners had signed a petition to preserve the
International Radio Serbia, but to no avail. In the end, the employees of
the Radio Yugoslavia are neither the first nor the last to fell the burden
of the saying "fish begins to stink at the head, but it is cleaned from
the tail".

Rádio Integracao, Cruzeiro do Sul has reactivated 4765 kHz, but

(WRTH A-15 Update June 25)

Radio Marumby (Sistema Iensen de Comunicacao, Avenida Parana No 1885,
Bairro Boa Vista, Curitiba - Parana) hat die Kurzwelle 11725 kHz
reaktiviert.

Die Frequenz wurde ab dem 9. Juni 2015 international // zu 6080 und 9515
kHz gehoert.

<http://www.radioevangelismo.com/radionline.htm> bzw.
<radionline730.htm>

FRANCE Nigerian Armed Forces SW test next week.
From F_B site of RMI brokery.

WRMI Radio Miami International - Radio Miami has arranged for a one-week
test transmission of the Armed Forces Radio of Nigeria from the Issoudun,
France relay site beginning Tuesday, June 30. The transmission, which will
be directed to West Africa, will be from 0600 to 0700 UT on two
frequencies. 11825 kHz will carry a Hausa-language program, and 13775 kHz
will carry an English-language program.

13775, June 30 from *0600 UT carrier on a few seconds early, then
cacophony of crowd noise and drumming, fair signal, OM English
announcement "This is the Nigerian Armed Forces Radio, on 11625 kHz, 25
meter band, and 13775 kHz, 21 meter band" and then something about news,
but all we hear is music interspersed with IDs. 0601 UT yelling and drums,
song; 0606 UT YL ID with meter bands only, more song, "stay with us";
06.08:20 UT OM ID, "This is the Nigerian Armed Forces Radio", different
music; dozing off, I quit at 0617 UT when signal is still fair.

Tnx to tip from Jeff White, this is a test via Issoudun, FRANCE, first
airing this date, for seven days? It's brokered by Radio Miami
International, which does other Nigerian SW business, but no mention of
RMI heard.
From WRMI F_B June 26:

"Radio Miami has arranged for a one-week test transmission of the Armed
Forces Radio of Nigeria from the Issoudun, France relay site beginning
Tuesday, June 30. The transmission, which will be directed to West Africa,
will be from 0600 to 0700 UT on two frequencies. 11825 kHz will carry a
Hausa-language program, and 13775 kHz will carry an English-language
program"

On 11825 kHz, there was only a much weaker JBA signal, presumably that,
but Bill Bingham in RSA says it was in fact English // 13775 kHz, fading
out before the hour was over. They were certainly confused about being on
11625 kHz, where I continued to hear Vatican in French. Or did he really
say 11825 kHz? I don't think so, but no further frequency mentions heard.

Meanwhile, RFI's sole English broadcast on 13725 kHz cut on in progress at
*0559 UT with a somewhat stronger signal from same site.

It seems the Nigerian Armed Forces have caught the shortwave bug. See also
this story about cooperating with Voice of Nigeria, seemingly more about
programming, without any time or frequency details and not referring to
the RMI deal, which Jose Miguel Romero2 sent to the dxld yg on June 27:

Nach der salafistischen Izala-Bewegung - und es draengt sich der Eindruck
einer unmittelbaren Reaktion auf deren Sendeaktivitaeten auf - hat in
Nigeria das Militaer das Medium Hoerfunk fuer sich entdeckt. Ab dem 30.
Juni 2015 will es zunaechst fuer eine Woche Testsendungen ausstrahlen.

Die Abwicklung uebernimmt wiederum Radio Miami International, das den
anstehenden Betriebsversuch in diesem Fall selbst ankuendigt.

of Nigeria, dem staatlichen Auslandshoerfunk in Abuja, dessen eigener
Sendebetrieb auf den Frequenzen 7255, 9690 und 15120 kHz sich
ausgesprochen unregelmaessig gestaltet.

FRANCE [to wider NIGERIA ] 13725, on July 1 at *0600 UT, good signal
from Issoudun, FRANCE, cuts on just before cacophony of modulation starts
like yesterday, sign-on in English of "Nigerian Armed Forces Radio; we
bring you news, views and comment on matters of the moment", announcing
frequencies as 11825 and 13775 kHz, I think. (Yesterday it sounded like
11625 kHz, and the accent still makes it hard to distinguish "eight" from
"six".)

11825 kHz also audible better than yesterday, poor level now, also in
English, but NOT // or not synchronized with 13775 kHz. At 0604 UT on
11825 kHz is announcing a long text message number for listeners.

I could not copy all the digits for sure, but something like

At 0606 UT announcement by YL on 13775 kHz; while 11825 kHz is repeating
the OM announcement about texting. At 0640 UT I awaken to hear on 13775
kHz the same sign-on announcement where the OM announcer stumbles over the
13775 kHz frequency mention, repeats it. In between it's just music on
these tests arranged by RMI for a 'week' starting June 30.

FRANCE WRMI proxy QSLs [of TDF Issoudun relay bcasts].

Does anyone know if QSLs will be available for reception reports of the
Nigerian Armed Forces Radio Test Broadcasts? If so could you please
provide information and address. I did a late night/ early morning
monitoring session for both frequencies on 2 July, and they came in pretty
clear in Eastern PA. I realize I'm not the intended target of the test but
it was a pretty decent program with great music. Thanks in advance for any
help in this matter.
(John Cooper-PA-USA, swl at qth.net via dxld July 3)

Hi Jeff, Wonder if you are issuing proxy QSLs for this or any of your
other Nigerian business? Or I am sure direct contact with stations would
be preferable if you can provide e- or p-addresses.

Do you still have any World of Radio QSLs available?
(Glenn to Jeff White-FL-USA WRMI, via dxld)

Glenn: WRMI will provide QSL's for the Nigerian broadcasts if requested.
These would be standard WRMI QSL's with a notation of the relay site -
nothing special for the specific programs. I honestly doubt that Manara
and Nigerian Armed Forces would QSL at this point because they probably
don't have any notion about this. But if they continue past the initial
tests I will at least broach the subject with them.

We do still have some WOR QSL's available for anyone who requests them.

But location Naypyidaw mentioned in Aoki list is wrong,
not exactly enough, see detail:

Southern 'Naypyidaw' site contain only a single antenna of 5915 kHz
channel.

Northern 'Pyin U Lwin' site, see 4 frequency channels below.

The Myanmar public radio has three shortwave installations on air

at Rangoon - old capital site of British Empire era,
some older 30 and 50 degr antennas,
but mainly on 356 and 176 degrees now.

But never have been realized the PLANNED 60 mb antenna installation at

at northern Pyin U Lwin site.

NIGERIA Re: tentative schedule of Voice of Nigeria.
It seems that VON has recently concentrated on 9690 kHz. 7255 kHz unheard,
and 15120 kHz seems to be on air only for DRM 1800-1930 UT on a regular
basis. I never heard the combination 9690 / 15120 kHz for Hausa as you did
...

I think, this transmission is from Abuja, and power and beams might be of
course different than before from IKO. But I believe it is a strong
western beam, as reception in Europe is very modest compared to other WeAF
transmissions on 31m I heard in the past (and are very scarce now - for
example Niger which was significantly stronger before 0700 UT, or Mali
which was MUCH stronger after 0800 UT in their best times).

Hi Rodney,
Was interested in your log of Wantok Radio Light, as I often monitor WRL
myself. Recently has been off the air, so would indeed be good news if
they are back again. Perhaps you could listen in again to confirm your
log?

When I check on WRL, I always find powerful CRI totally blocks any
possibility of my hearing low powered WRL, per the Aoki schedule:

It is only after 1357 UT, when CRI signs off, that I have any possibility
of checking on WRL, as it's then a clear frequency till about 1430 UT.

Was there no CRI broadcasting at 1301/1303 today?

5020 Cyclone Raquel - SIBC - Solomon Islands, at 1200-1312 UT on July 1
anomaly. SIBC programming did not end as usual at about 1203 UT, therefor
did not switch over to "Wantok FM" relay today as they normally would
have; instead, in Pijin, gave regular "cyclone warnings for all of the
Solomon Islands" for Cyclone Raquel, weather updates, phoned in reports
from various villages, as well as playing some pop songs; played song
"Falling Rain" and after it said "is raining here"; warned of "heavy
rains, flooding, landslides"; "Stay safe, stay calm"; many IDs for "SIBC,
National Radio"; will probably carry live SIBC programming (not Wantok FM
relay) for the next 24 hours or longer; almost fair with QRN (static).

SOMALIA Radio Puntland 13800 kHz heard in Italy [1 Attachment 6 mins].

Radio Puntland on 13800 kHz, heard in Taranto (South of Italy) on 23rd
June 2015, from 1423 to 1537 UT when it signed off abruptly. The programme
was most in Somali but at 1457 UT there was some kind of announcement in
English. Not an ID rather it sounded like commercials with some African
cities and internet website mentioned. Reception conditions fair, no QRM,
some fading. At 1700 UT there was what it seemed to be an extended
bulletin of news. The voice of speaker in the studio was loud and clear
but spoken reports from outdoor were very poor.

Here is a log about Radio Puntland. At 1457 UT there was an announcement
in English. Not an ID but rather some kind of commercials with a number of
African cities mentioned and a website. I enclose a short recording of the
station which include that English announcement. To fully understand what
is exactly said in that announcement is a little bit hard to me but I
guess it would be easier for you whose mother tongue is English. So I am
attaching a file with mp3 extension with a short recording of Radio
Puntland which includes that English announcement. Unfortunately I was not
able to catch any announcement in Italian ;-).

"Hi Anatoly
Thank you for your email and (impressive) report.

However, the BBC World Service doesn't send QSLs as we simply no longer
have the staff resources to verify reception reports and, hence, no longer
produce the cards. Also, our engineers now have their own monitoring
systems though all information about unusual or persistent interference on
specific frequencies at specific times can be very useful.

I shall forward your message to our engineers who shall no doubt find it
both informative and useful if for no other reason than as a means to
check their own monitoring systems of our signal(s).

Once again, many thanks and all best,

A legend of late night paranormal talk radio is returning to the air

of many mediums the show will be broadcast. Bell will be broadcasting out

This is also confirmed on the Art Bell web site which states that "We have

good frequency to be heard at that time of night. They will carry just the
LIVE portion of the show. See our Radio Stations page for more" [this also

We have uploaded a pdf update to the A15 schedules and this can now be
downloaded from this link WRTH2015IntRadioSuppl3_A15SchedulesUpdate
(bclnews.it June 27)

I see no pdf.file download anymore.
Somewhat integrated into WRTH SHOP browser window ...

Old cut and paste procedure ?
fetch the data on

<http://www.wrth.com/_shop/?m=201506>

My browser shows

International data access
<http://www.wrth.com/_shop/?p=2073>

<http://www.wrth.com/_shop/?cat=36>

National data
<http://www.wrth.com/_shop/?p=2069>

<http://www.wrth.com/_shop/?cat=37>

[later] Oh yes, I see,
excuse, a three step procedure via integrated text line

"We have uploaded a pdf update to the A15 schedules and this can now be
downloaded from this text link

WRTH2015IntRadioSuppl3_A15SchedulesUpdate "

very cumbersome procedure

rather easy direct link via

I saw it last year at a private showing at Robbie Owen's home in Hertford
when the director, producer and one of the researchers came over. Those
interviewed include Yoko Ono, Shimon Perez, Zubhin Meta and Daniel
Barenboim, offshore radio historian Hans Knot, Voice of Peace engineer
Bill Danse and broadcasters Don Stevens, Alan Roberts and Robbie himself.
