ARGENTINA 15345.078v kHz Radio Nacional, Buenos Aires Argentina, nx at
19 UT on Aug 8, noticias in Spanish, weather report at 1902-1903 UT, S=7-8
in Germany SDR unit. Argentine LRA36 Antarctic radio stn on 15476v only
scheduled on Mon-Fri, but downwards summer
season 2015/2016 not started yet. Closest stn is AWR in Arabic, on 15480.005 kHz from Talata Volondry Madagascar at 1905 UT. (wb, wwdxc BC-DX TopNews Aug 8) ASCENSION ISL 7415 Dandal Kura Radio via Ascension relay site noted at 0643 UT, S=6 signal in southern Germany, little bit lower strength, compared to the armada of BBC Ascension signals in 49, 41, and 31 mb in the UT morning. AID organization of Babcock brokered transmission. (wb, wwdxc BC-DX TopNews Aug 5) AUSTRALIA 9580 // 12065 // 12085 kHz, RA Shepparton, at 0900-0905 UT on Aug 10. In French, which is a language I rarely hear on SW anymore; at 0905 UT suddenly into English; fair. (Ron Howard-CA-USA, dxld Aug 10) AUSTRALIA 15199.981 odd frequency fingerprint "Reach Beyond Australia", Vietnamese female singer, at 1112 UT on Aug 11, poor S=4-5 signal here in Germany. (wb, wwdxc BC-DX TopNews Aug 11) BELARUS 11730 S=9+15dB at 1135 UT, Radio Belarus and THEIR AWFUL TERRIBLE accompanied spurious signals of S=7-8 audio level: 11669-11681 11697-11708 11752-11763 11780-11791 kHz (wb, wwdxc BC-DX TopNews Aug 11) BHUTAN 6034.96, BBS, Sangaygang, at 1248-1430 UT on Wed July 22, unique indigenous music/singing, monologue and phone conversations. Some mixing with Yunnan PBS (China), in Vietnamese and Chinese, but most of the time BBS was stronger. The last I knew BBS signed off about 1300 UT, so they really were on an extended schedule today. (Ron Howard-CA-USA) Strong signal also here in Finland now at 1615 UT on July 22. (Mauno Ritola-FIN). Also heard July 23 at 1100 UT on remote SDR units in Nagoya Japan and Brisbane Queensland, S7, footprint 6034.951 kHz. (Bueschel). I heard it after 1200 UT, but not after 1230 UT. (Ritola). But not heard on July 23 at 1242-1350 UT, no BBS was audible! Yunnan PBS was doing fairly well on 6035 kHz, in Vietnamese till 1300 UT, when they switched to Chinese. (Ron Howard-CA-USA) (via Anker Petersen-DEN, dswci DXW Aug 5) BOLIVIA/CHINA two stn heard on 6155 kHz at 1030 UT in Alberta Canada. Even frequency CNR2 program from Beijing #491 site. But on DARKZONE morning path from Bolivia heard stronger - probably - CP12 Radio Fides, La Paz in Spanish, on exact 6155.140 kHz, S=6 in Alberta CAN remote SDR unit. (wb, wwdxc BC-DX TopNews Aug 5) BOLIVIA 5952.446 CP60 Emisora Pio XII, time announcement in Spanish at 1042 UT Aug 5th. Excellent S=7-8 signal noted in Edmonton Alberta SDR unit. (wb, wwdxc BC-DX TopNews Aug 5) BOLIVIA 6134.6 Radio Santa Cruz, at 0010-0032 UT on Aug 3, man announcer with brief Spanish talks, IDs hosting a nice program of musical selections. Another ID at 0020 UT followed by a quick announcement. Fair. (Rich D'Angelo-PA-USA, DXplorer Aug 12) BOLIVIA Medium Wave stations in La Paz. Boa Vontade is the one on the low side of 6160 kHz. Drifting around a bit, sometimes below CKZN and sometimes just above. Rio Mar is the one on 6160.08 kHz closing one hour earlier (arond 2100 UT) than Boa Vontade (sign off normally 2159 UT). Cairo is S8 with Arabic music, and not very distorted, so that's an improvement; but 11935 kHz is JBA at S1-S2; 9965 kHz is S9+ with whine and no other modulation; 9315 kHz at 0047 UT is open carrier/dead air at S9+. Tarek Zeidan in Cairo has forwarded complaints about these to station and may meet with them about identifying or solving the problem; further reports wanted. Well, I've been logging this mess several times a week for months, so how much more do they need? (Glenn Hauser-OK-USA, dxld Aug 13) Haven't even tried to hear Radio Cairo since early last year got a so so signal but the audio was terrible wanted to bang our head on the table so we gave up trying to listen. Seems the best I can remember it was in early 2013 the last time we could really understand their broadcast. (Thomas Dorman, dxld Aug 3) EGYPT Radio Cairo. Hello DXers Been following the notes about the reception of Radio Cairo and decided to pass all of them to an e-mail I got for Radio Cairo. Yesterday I got a call from the engineer responsible for the frequency manager and she informed me that, she passed all the comments to the manager and they had a meeting about these e-mails. I may have a meeting with her and try to know more about the reason of this muffled audio transmissions. In the meantime she asked me to check with you about the reception of the following transmissions: 9965 kHz from 23:00 to 04:30 UTC 9315 kHz from 00:45 to 02:00 UTC 11935 kHz from 00:45 to 02:00 UTC 9315 kHz from 02:00 to 03:30 UTC Looking forward to hearing from you and your reports are highly appreciated. This will save 13 million EURos annually. Last week the details were announced: At the end of this year, the two mediumwave transmitters of France Bleu (864 kHz and 1278 kHz) and the remaining nine mediumwave transmitters of France Info (603, 711, 1206, 1242, 1377, 1404, 1494 and 1557 kHz) will be silenced. Last year, three high power stations of France Info were already closed. At the end of 2016, France-Inter will disappear from the longwave frequency 162 kHz. (Prof. Dr. Hansjoerg Biener-D, via wwdxc BC-DX TopNews Aug 7) France: [It seems that two items in the WRTH concerning Radio Maria France need to be corrected].According to the WRTH 2015, Radio Maria France (address according to web site: 230 rue Marc Delage, 83130 La Garde, not the address given in the WRTH) broadcasts 0500-1900 hrs UTC on 1467 kHz (40 kHz). In reality, the Catholic station has been broadcasting 0600-2000 h local time on 1467 kHz since its inaugural broadcast in late 2007. [So there needs to be a reference "in summer one hour earlier".] The transmissions on 1467 kHz are meant to cover the "Région PACA" (Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. See <www.regionpaca.fr/> ). According to the web site <www.radiomaria.fr> there is only one more frequency for terrestrial reception: Monaco 88.2 MHz. Otherwise, the audience of the Catholic radio station is dependent on transmissions via the internet at <www.radiomaria.fr/player/> (noticeable delay in comparison with terrestrial reception) or via apps for mobile devices. This is Athens - You are listening to the Voice of Greece"). Und mein A1-TV ueber ADSL hat auch kein griechisches TV aufgeschaltet. vy 73s und Gruss aus Tirol Wolfgang (Gargitter-AUT, A-DX Aug 6) Sorry if this is old news, but I just noticed that the ERT Voice of Greece now has an online programme schedule available. Tuned in at 0944 UT to UNID open carrier; 1000 UT first positive audio; in English; sounded very much like the "Exotic Indonesia" program that in the past was always only on Tuesday and Thursday; many segments of chatting, along with usual back and forth banter; poor reception and at times unable to make out any audio; 1100 UT ID and station slogan; into stilted Chinese; 1204 UT also noted in Chinese; 1300 UT Chinese ID, as well as English ID & slogan; continuing on in Chinese. So their first day back was certainly not their typical schedule; would have been normal for English 1000-1100 UT, but "Exotic Indonesia" program would have been an anomaly for Wed. in the past. Reception after 1300 UT was at times almost fair, so if they go back to 1300-1400 UT in English, this could perhaps be reasonably heard? Of course Atsunori Ishida <http://rri.jpn.org/> also has reported this reactivation. With the poor reception, hard for me to get a very accurate measurement, so perhaps Wolfy or others can determine a truer measurement. On August 15 North Korea is to move its time zone back by 30 minutes, so that local time will be UT+8.30 hrs/m. Damit hinkt Nordkorea seinem Nachbarn Suedkorea demnaechst 30 Minuten hinterher... The DPRK is to reset its standard time, which has been in effect since Japan altered it during its unprecedentedly harsh military rule over Korea, in the run-up to the 70th anniversary of Korea's liberation and Japan's defeat in World War II, according to a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK. New standard time is based on 127 degrees 30 minutes east longitude (current time minus 30 minutes) and it is named Pyongyang Time, which comes into effect on coming August 15, the decree said. There is now a campaign to put Willis Conover on a USA postage stamp in recognition of his role in helping to win the "Cold War". They discussed the continuing battle Conover waged against the VOA suits who wanted him to play rock music. The "Jazz Hour" was also my first exposure to serious jazz music (even though I lived within sight of the Empire State Building) as I tweaked my home-made regenerative receiver in defiance of the US Congress's directive to VOA to not broadcast to the USA. Little did the Congress know that one hop skip from southwest Ohio, upstate New York, or ground wave from New Jersey could be heard by a kid who new how to string an antenna, wind a coil, or solder a tube socket. Just to balance this memoir, I first heard of singer Paul Robeson on Radio Moscow as he had been banned on US radio because of his open support of Communism. I have lived in interesting times. There is a link to the program on the show's internet link above. Enjoy (Joe Buch-USA, dxld Aug 4) WILLIS CONOVER TO BE STAMPED. For anyone who missed it: the campaign to put Willis Conover on a stamp: Many of us have fond memories of listening to Willis Conover and the VOA Jazz Hour. There is currently a drive underway to put Conover on a stamp, in recognition of all he accomplished by presenting American jazz to people around the world throughout the Cold War. For many years this music symbolized freedom to the folks who listened beyond the iron curtain. Conover was a true jazz expert, and drew most of the material for the show from his personal collection of 60,000(!) records. The address for the USPS Citizens' Stamp Advisory Committee is 475 L'Enfant Plaza SW, Room 3300 Washington, DC 20260-3501, USA More details are available on the Willis Conover page on Facebook (run by members of his family - I think the main editor is his niece?). 73 (Tim Hall-CA-USA, Aug 5, ABDX via dxld) Remembrance - Often relayed the great VOA program "The Jazz Hour" also on the longwave beast 173 kHz 1000 kW of power near Munich Bavaria. wb. Assuming it's really on the air, must be on a hi-angle, short-range antenna just right for max signal into Cuba, not here. At least I detect no jamming, either. 5850 kHz WRMI on its NW antenna is much better but still only poor this early. I've yet to check for the other AWR 5950 kHz broadcast at 1100-1130 UT, but that must have been Mark Taylor, Wisconsin's poorly audible unID in the NASWA Flashsheet. Or rather, a full hour each for System H per WRMI frequency grid; maybe for expansion or some other program? (Ivo Ivanov-BUL, hcdx via wwdxc BC-DX TopNews Aug 12) ZIMBABWE ZBC desecrates Gweru station, fires all journalists. The Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation today fired all journalists and majority of supporting staff at its Gweru based Voice of Zimbabwe station. The development could literally means the station has been shut down. The station was in the build up to the 2002 elections during the first stint of Jonathan Moyo as Information minister. It was accessible on the short wave band and it is understood its establishment was meant to jam foreign-based stations that the Zanu (PF) regime believed to be hostile towards it while sympathising with the MDC ahead of the watershed polls. Sources at the station today pointed out that all employees working on the current affairs department that comprised of about 20 journalists were given letters informing them that their contracts had been terminated on three months' notice. Joseph Nhara, the station manager, is understood to have also been fired together with employees from other departments like news production, engineering, security and drivers- bringing the total figure of the affected workers to about 50. "We write to advise that the employer has decided to exercise its right in terms of the Common Law and Section 12 (4) of the Labour Act (Chapter 28:01) (Hereinafter referred to as the Labour Act to terminate your contract of employment in notice with immediate effect," reads part of a letter addressed to one of the sacked workers. It is dated 11 August and was signed by ZBC's Acting Chief Executive, Patrick Mavhura. The correspondence also demanded that the sacked workers today surrender identification cards and properties that they used as ZBC employees. "Please ensure that you surrender the ZBC identity card, information relating to your responsibilities and any other ZBC property in your possession to the undersigned by 12 August 2015." A few employees numbering about five were spared and sources said they are next line but only survived in order to safeguard equipment and properties at the radio station. When this reporter arrived at the station, there was sombreness among the affected workers who were packing out. "We have been caught off-guard. The ZBC had given us assurances that our jobs were safe. There is desperation here," said one of the affected employee from the current affairs department.Last week ZBC fired its embattled chief executive, Happison Muchechetere and three other top officials who were on suspension over corruption-related charges. According to the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions, about 20 000 employees have lost their jobs since deliverance of a Supreme Court ruling that gives employers the right to fire employees upon giving them three months' notices. <http://www.thezimbabwean.co/2015/08/zbc-desecrates-gweru-station-fires-all-journalists/> (via José Miguel Romero-ESP, dxld Aug 13) #*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*# GERMANY Besuch der Grossfunkstelle Nauen & Stadtrundgang, (Sightseeing Tour to Media&Broadcast transmitting center Nauen.)
