9645.3 Radio Bandeirantes, Sao Paulo, SP, 0058-0138, Sept 30, no signal,
when 9630v and 9665v kHz stations are confirmed. I logged it last week,
Sep 21 at 0545 UT with that quarter-hour timesignal, but Brazilians on the
radioescutas group have been concluding the station has quit SW for good.
We hope that's premature, as lots of stations break down for some reason
and come back; let's keep checking.

But this from Lenildo da Silva, No Mundo do Dexismo, via Daniel Wyllyans,
HCDX on Sep 26 [my improved Google translation]:

"Apparently, Radio Bandeirantes of Sao Paulo, ended its SW transmissions,
since it is no longer captured on 9645 and 6090 kHz; transmission on 11925
kHz had been suppressed for several months. Affected by a financial
crisis, the Sao Paulo station began a wave of layoffs in its workforce in
August, not even sparing established names from the sports department. The
obstructive cuts, which have reached other parts of the Bandeirantes
Group, seem to have come now to SW transmissions. We hope, however, that
the traditional broadcaster of journalism and sport, can overcome this
crisis and re-operate on SW soon".
(Glenn Hauser-OK-USA, via dswci DXW Oct 14)

4875.08 Radio Roraima, Boa Vista - RR. Oct 20 *0905 UT - transmitter on
at 0802 UT and running an OC until finally modulating at 0905 UT with
Camargo & Luciano pop music in progress. Canned ID at 0908 UT, more
Camargo & Luciano into live Bom Dia talk by two DJ's with lot's of echo.
Excellent signal.

4885.01 Radio Clube do Para, Belem - PA. Oct 20 0640 UT - after being
absent the past 24 hours, very pleased to hear this one back with a crash
start at 0640 UT with programming in progress. Excellent in lECSS
bypassing ever present CODAR, huge by Belem 0854 UT sunrise!
(Brandon Jordan-TN-USA, dxld Oct 20)

BULGARIA QSL 15640 kHz, BVB relay, Sofia Kostinbrod, full data card in

CANADA 6030 Calgary - CFVP relaying CKMX (AM 1060 kHz) on Oct 20. Must
have been unusually good propagation today, as 1211-1223 & 1335-1342 UT
heard intermittently under stronger CNR1; comedians with lots of laughter;
"Laugh your ass off ... with Calgary's all new 10-60 AM. Now Brian Regan";
series of ads (Glass Masters Autoglass, homeowners loans, etc.). Very
respectable reception being generated from their *100 watt transmitter*.
Calgary sunrise was at 1408 UT.
(Ron Howard-CA-USA, dxld / DXplorer Oct 20)

On Oct 20, at 0233-0337 UT, election coverage of Liberal Party win, with
same programming from both Vancouver and Newfoundland, producing an
interesting echo effect. Echo ended at 0337 UT after some speeches, when
they started to carry different programs.

Thanks to Brandon Jordan for frequencies - "As of last night I had CKZN on
6159.966 kHz and CKZU on 6159.978 kHz."
(Ron Howard-CA-USA, DXplorer Oct 20)

Re: Calgary CFVP on 6030 kHz.
Hi Ron. After seeing your log I went back through my overnight recording
to see if I could catch any hints of CFVP. Amazingly, at the 0504 UT start
of the SDR recording I have definite comedy, laughing etc under R Marti
and the Fidel jammer. No other sign of them overnight up to 1108 UT end of
recording. This is pretty amazing as the SAL-30 loop was aimed SE directly
toward Cuba. If it was aimed NW at the time, may have been a decent log.
Also, no sign of R Madang this morning, but I didn't check until about
1220 UT which may have been after their s/off.

[later] Afraid NBC Madang (3260 kHz) was indeed off the air by 1216 UT.
This per info from Hiroyuki Komatsubara (Japan), as I did not check today.

CHINA/KUWAIT/MARIANA ISL Re: Firedrake jamming.

Noted Chinese classical music Firedrake jammer yesterday afternoon (19
October) here in New Brunswick using a Tecsun PL-880 inside the house with
just its whip antenna at listenable level around 2030 UT on 9745 kHz
presumably directed against the Taiwanese military station Kuanghua Chih
Sheng (Voice of Kuanghua or, as suggested by a department colleague, Voice
of Shining China).

The Firedrake transmission stopped at about 2100 UT. Couldn't detect
Kuanghua Chih Sheng underneath Firedrake or after it had signed off.

Hoert man anderenorts

(Albert Kosnopfel-D, A-DX Oct 18)

5005+, Oct 16 at 0540 UT, JBA carrier, slightly on hi side. Checked after
Stig Hartvig Nielsen's HCDX report from Denmark that Radio Bata has been
signing on around 0500 UT, i.e. Oct 13 at tune in 0505 UT on 5005.02 kHz,
and about the same time next mornings, 5005.05 kHz on Oct 16. For him, it
starts fading out around 0515 and is lost by 0545 UT. So I must try closer
to 0500 UT subsequently.

Other recent reports of the reactivated Bata are as early as 0425 UT,
which would be propagationally better for all concerned, and on the low
side, 5004.9 kHz.

I see some spellings as Bata, but not so in atlases. Based on monitoring
in the evenings, when SHN can't hear it, Arthur Miller in Wales says in
Communication of the British DX Club that the 5005 kHz station he heard
Sept 24 was Radio Malabo but after mentioning Bata, Malabo went off at
2058 UT, and another weaker signal came on 5005 kHz at 2102 UT, leading
him to suspect that both stations are sharing 5005 kHz. I also frequently
check the old Malabo frequency, 6250 kHz, last heard in May 2011 per dswci
DBS, in case it be reactivated.
(Glenn Hauser-OK-USA, dxld Oct 16)

Radio Bata 5005 kHz.

Radio Bata from Equatorial Guinea can now be heard mornings on 5005 kHz
signing on around 0500 UT. First noted on 5005.02 kHz at tune in 0505 UT
on Oct 13 with non stop music only. Also on October 14 from sign on at
0501 UTC with non stop music. And on October 15. Today October 16 the
transmitter was switched on at 0505 UT and soon followed by at least three
clear station ID's and announcements in Spanish. Today heard on 5005.05
kHz. Signal strength at sign on is fairly good, but at my receiving
location the signal starts fading out around 0515 and by 0545 UT the
signal is lost. I haven't been able to catch Radio Bata - or even a trace
of a carrier during evening hours.

I am using 250 metres beverage aerial towards south
(Stig Hartvig Nielsen-DEN, hcdx Oct 16)

5005+ on Oct 19 at 0459 UT tune-in, JBA carrier is here from presumed
RNGE Bata, after no such signal on Sat or Sun, Oct 17 or 18. It's very
very slightly on the hi side, on the FRG-7 comparing BFO pitches with 6005
BBC-Ascension presumed to be 6005.000 kHz. This carrier is constant, but
far too weak to detect any modulation; still there at 0538 UT. Wolfgang
Bueschel agrees that it was back on air today and his fingerprint of +4 Hz
off matches closely my observation:

"On Monday Oct 19 at 0502 UT tuned-in, RN Guinea Equatorial Bata was
already ON AIR on 5005.004 kHz footprint, played a lot of African fast
music, in southern Germany, Belgium and France not much strong signal this
morning, at selected SDR options, span 12.5 kHz RBW 15.3 Hertz approx.
signal strength of S=5 or -94dBm.

GNE signal strength lowered more and more to fade-out around 0535 UT, best
signal noted at transmission start at {varies} 0458-0500 UT. RN Equatorial
Guinea Bata widely reported in Austrian A-DX newsgroup in past days, BUT
IRREGULARLY time on air".
(Glenn Hauser-OK-USA, dxld Oct 19)

Good morning. Tip of Stig Hartvig Nielsen in Denmark and Michael Haun on
Menorca Spain islands posts reported recently GNE Bata on air again, - but
irregularly - in European mornings from 0500 UT onwards and evenings from
1715 UT too:

History AFN Stuttgart,

On same tx location Deutsche Telekom (ex DBP Deutsche Bundespost) is
running a 10 Kilowatt sender on behalf of AFN - American Forces Network -
Stuttgart (Program from Heidelberg studio) on 1143 kHz. AFN Hirschlanden
stn is on the air since 1963. In 1945-Oct 1962 AFN used exReichspost MW,
SW & FM site at Muehlacker, now public bcer SWR (exSDR) Baden-Baden
Stuttgart.

From a visit to Muehlacker site on July 24, 1999: rdl00316.jpg the GREY
metallic structure tower in the foreground show the ex-AFRTS / AFN
American Forces Network mediumwave tower, which was in use from June 1945
til October 1962 with 100 Kilowatt of power, mainly on mediumwave 1106
kHz. Is now in use at maintenance days as replacement of the main 260
meters tall mast only.

AFRTS/AFN left that site in 1962 for another Stuttgart Hirschlanden site
by German FCC 'Deutsche Bundespost' then - now 'Deutsche TELEKOM' - on

INDIA 4760.00 AIR Port Blair, -1700* UT on Oct 8, I have been
monitoring this frequency for a while both in the afternoon and at night
here. Weekdays sign off at ~1700* (1700:45) and Sa/Su at ~1730* UT. The
signal at 1730 UT is remarkably weaker than at 2400 UT. The ID heard on
Oct 8 at sign off sounded like "Akashvani Radio Port Blair". Also heard at
*2356 UT on Oct 8, the signal here has improved day by day. ID is given
after the same piece of music each day at about 2356 UT. ID as "Akashvani
kabli Port Blair Kendra Hey" or as a plain "Akashvani Port Blair Kendra
Hey". The ID also repeated just before 2400 UT. On Oct 9 no signal noticed
at this time, but the station was heard at sign off 1700* UT.
(Thomas Nilsson-SWE, dswci DXW Oct 14)

4760.00 Also heard via Perseus site in Central Germany at 2348-0025 UT on
Oct 11, but fading fast as the gray line had passed Port Blair after 0000
UT. Decent signals today with vocal/instrumental music, woman ann between
songs. At 0025 UT there was a short ann by woman and then a man announcer.
From 0001.5-0007 UT there was a group singing with drum accompaniment -
not a typical Hindi vocal, but sounding more indigenous, 33433 using a
Beverage covering So and SoEaAsia. A 2-20 MHz vertical at the same site
gives similar results but with increased atmospheric noise.

INDIA 4970, AIR Shillong, at 1434 UT on Oct 21. In English; program
schedule & local IDs; Delhi produced "Sports News."

Unfortunately the local Shillong studios normally produce a somewhat weak
audio (low modulation). Is amazing to hear the difference between the
local Shillong audio compared to the stronger audio provided from New
Delhi. A very significant jump in the audio level when they picked up
"Sports News" from Delhi, as noted.

LUXEMBOURG 234 Longwave RTL noted on rather low signal level in 23-24

I guess never 1500 kW at night anymore.
RTL MW 1440 kHz will be ceased MW sce for ever on Dec 31, 2015.

TERRIBLE kind.

As far as I know, this is one of the repaired 250 kW units of 1960
vintage. There appears to be only one of them working. The distortion
problem has been on-going for years now, and despite several attempts to
improve audio, they have never completely succeeded.

I've asked for information about the two 100 kW transmitters that were
delivered to Karachi, but I don't get an answer. I can remember being told
several years ago that the old 10 and 50 kW transmitters had been removed
to make room for the new ones. But then, nothing more. However, I
understand that they intend to continue broadcasting into B-15.

SOLOMON ISLANDS 5020.0, SIBC - Voice of the Nation, Honiara, 0758-0910
UT on Oct 3, heard from Perseus site in Edmonton AB at virtually local
quality - this with 20 db attenuation set to minimize Radio Rebelde on
5025 kHz which usually overpowers SIBC. Tonight, however, SIBC was
overpowering Cuba with armchair listening - the best I have ever heard
SIBC. Many interesting programs in Tok Pisin and English, 4+4444 with
gradual improvement over time.

There is also color-coding which is not explained on the same page!
Everything in blue except: Red for Cinco Continentes, white for EELM.
Presumably referring to different domestic networx.

FWIW, times shown for foreign languages, in UT, Tue-Sat only, are, each

SYRIA [presumed or non] Observations in period 5-12 October 2015 with
tube receiver and 1x1 loop antenna on eastern located slope and on Sony
ICF2001D with rod antenna:

at 0000-0300 UT
on  990 Radio Sawa Cyprus in Arabic, plus noise jamming;
on 1431 Radio Sawa Djibouti in Arabic, plus bubble jamming ;
on 1548 under Radio Gold, Radio Sawa Kuwait, plus police alarm siren
jamming;

at 0250-0330
on  630 under Romania, Turkey in Arabic, plus noise jamming;
on 1062 Turkey in Kurdish, plus motor boat jamming.

The primitive loop antenna gives Syria-Lebanon-Israel for all jammings.

Or they are some intermodulated sound on both receivers?
As usual there is Iran jamming (irregulary) on 1575 kHz.

TAJIKISTAN/OMAN/THAILAND 4790 on Oct 14 at 1255 UT very poor carrier vs
CODAR, 1259 UT BaBcoCk IS for a bit, 1259.5 UT announcement, 1300 UT 5+1
timesignal, i.e. BBC Uzbek relay for half an hour, but it seems the
carrier comes on way earlier. I imagine it's quite a bigsig into
neighboring Uzbekistan, but why don't the ChiCom jam it? It's only 307 km
191 miles from Dushanbe to Tashkent, unless you're driving:
423 km/263 statutes.

No second carrier audible now, but less than a semihour after 1238 UT
sunrise here, between 1300 and 1304 UT, I get lots of JBAs on 60mb, a few
with bits of modulation, mostly matching Tibet/China/India frequencies,
except for two on 4750 kHz: Indonesia/Bangladesh/China? 4760, 4800, 4810,
4820, 4835-Australia, 4870, 4880, 4895, 4910, 4920, 4940-China, 4970,
5040, 5050 kHz.
(Glenn Hauser-OK-USA, dxld Oct 14)

4790-, Oct 11 at 1309 UT, very poor signal with talk, presumed BBC Uzbek
relay. No ChiCom jamming reported anywhere I've seen, so maybe this tactic
is working. Over here, CODAR is the enemy.
(Glenn Hauser-OK-USA, dxld Oct 18)

4790 kHz 1300-1330 UT TJK * BBC in Uzbek from Dushanbe, Yangi Yul, marked
with * asterix in Aoki Nagoya list, - I guess - likely jammed by western
China mainland in Kashgar? This 4790 kHz TJK transmission IS NOT
registration requested in ITU / HFCC list in A-15 and/or B-15 lists, maybe
is a VEILED target service towards Kashgar western China area?

In winter B-15 season on shortwave relays
13865 1300-1330 30S,40NE SLA 250kW 10deg -25 211 Uzb OMA BBC BAB

17780 1300-1330 30S,40NE SLA 250 10 0 146 Uzb OMA BBC BAB

re BBC Uzbek 1300-1330 UT transmission. Yes, heard and visible the 4790
kHz outlet from 13 UT onwards, on remote SDR unit posts in Tokyo and
Qatar.

In Tokyo scratching noise jamming signal heard on 4790 kHz, but need more
monitoring in coming [northern] wintermonths,
but NOT in Doha Qatar the fundamental 4765 kHz Tajik R Yangi Yul signal
was little stronger than 4790 kHz channel.

Only the Aoki Nagoya list give the extended - freq hopping day by day
change - BBC Uzbek sce schedule from August 1, 2015.

Today Wed Oct 21 // channels observed, mostly CNR1 word and additional
scratching noise jamming signals:

15180 kHz OMA S=9+10 sidelobe signal in Germany, but that could be the
jamming signal from mainland China, broad 15.4 kHz wide jamming signal,
central different coloured signal visible like 7.4 kHz broadband, that
could be probably the fundamental Al'Seela OMA signal ?

17510 kHz SNG the - probably Kranji relay -, but the jamming was strongest
- of all three signals on BBC Uzb shortwave sce - here in Germany,
S=9+30dB CNR1 jamming, 13.4 kHz wide broadband.

17760 kHz THA Udorn Thani not really heard, rather CNR1 word and
scratching jamming from China mainland, S=9+20dB, wideband 18 kHz
scratching visible.

re 4790 BBC Uzbek white noise scratching jamming.

I think, when Uwe will go to his remote SDR Thailand again in November,
or even when heard on Moscow Russia remote unit too, we will have real
BETTER 60 mb winter signals in future, also on 4790 kHz channel.

USA 15555 Found them on 15555 kHz USB-mode this morning at 1740 UT.
Usual fare. Well heard in my local afternoon around 2000 UT on 15555 kHz.
I rechecked, too.
(Walter Salmaniw-Masset-BC-CAN, dxld Oct 22)

I'm in Southwest Arkansas and can barely hear them. My friend Just outside
Mobile, AL can't hear them at all and they're pretty close to him, in
Pensacola Florida.

So I wasn't crazy last week when I emailed a friend and said I'd heard a
vey faint WJHR ON 15555USB instead of 15550USB.
(Paul B. Walker-FL-USA, dxld Oct 22)

It is not the "wrong" frequency but the right frequency where they should
have moved long ago to avoid conflict at 1500-1630 UT with Vatican
transmitting Radios Tamazuj and Dabanga, which is to continue in B-15.
Maybe they finally noticed my log reports about this collision? And HFCC
B-15 does show WJHR on 15555 instead of 15550 kHz, so it's just a head-
start.

[later] 15555-USB, on Oct 23 at *1402:20 UT, WJHR Milton FL pops on the
air with music already playing (seems it's always 2+ minutes late), sign-
on with contact addresses, but missed whether George Scott Mock now
announces 15555 kHz instead of 15550 kHz. Then playing theme music 'Rock
of Ages' and joining deceased John Hill offensive preaching in progress.
The station exists only as a memorial to him.

This replaces 15550-USB kHz, noticed by Walt Salmaniw yesterday and before
that "last week" by Paul Walker, as now on the "wrong" frequency. Sheryl
Paszkiewicz, Wisconsin, tells me she had it on 15555 USB kHz, already Oct
15 at 2144 UT.

Axually, it's the *right* frequency, where they should have moved long ago
to avoid conflict at 1500-1630 UT with Vatican transmitting Radios Tamazuj
and Dabanga, which is to continue in B-15. Maybe they finally noticed my
log reports about this collision? And HFCC B-15 does show WJHR on 15555
kHz instead of 15550 kHz, so it's just a head-start. Wolfgang Bueschel
found that they had already requested 15555 kHz from FCC as of August 12,
before the Brisbane HFCC B-15 conference.

15555 kHz should encounter no direct collisions in B-15 unless Voice of
Tibet via Tajikistan, and consequent CNR1 jamming happen to land around
there. Current Aoki shows *15557 kHz at 1230-1235 UT only, but you never
know where they will go next, and at later hours. DW, RFI and Radio Biafra
will be on 15560 kHz during the 16-20 UT span amid the WJHR span of 1402-
2202 UT. So from 1600 to 1627 UT at least, WJHR will be squeezed from both
sides.

WJHR started on 15550 kHz circa Xmas 2009y; it remains quite an anomaly,
USB and no carrier (which delayed my zeroing in on it at sign-on), and
obviously a weak transmitter, but claimed to be 50 kW, which maybe they
attain only in terms of PEP, and thus supposedly comply with FCC
requirements; azimuth 5 degrees, pretend-target CIRAF 4 only Ontario,
Quebec and northward.
(Glenn Hauser-OK-USA, dxld Oct 23)

Yes, WJHR requested registration of 15555 kHz by FCC already in August 12,
before the B-15 conference in Brisbane Australia started.

At 16 UT on Oct 23 only Radio Dabanga, southern Sudan outlet from CVA SMG
site on 15550 kHz, nothing heard of WJHR 15555 or 15550 kHz on Oct 23.

re 15555 nothing heard today Oct 23 at 1605 UT.
Only Sudan Dabanga CVA SMG heard on 15550 kHz at around 1600 UT.

But when checked at 1748 UT on Oct 23 again,
WJHR Milton FL on air in USB mode, heard at S=8 or -80dBm signal level in
Michigan, and also in Fl and MA/NJ remote units.

15555 kHz nominal frequency no carrier visible, but range of USB mode
'AUDIO visible' on screen on 15555.200 to 15557.700 kHz range !

Re: WRNO running 7504.8055 kHz.
Hi David, Back in June 2010, Larry Thom (former Chief Engineer WRNO) wrote
to me:

"The frequency is actually off a little due to a defective oscillator, and
the replacements turned out to be too large to fit in the driver area of
the transmitter. We are working to get new ones but so far they have not
arrived."

So still not fixed in 2015 year. Larry left the station years ago and
wonder what their engineering department looks like now without him?
(Ron Howard-CA-USA, dxld Oct 21)
