BANGLADESH 15105 QSL Bangladesh Betar verified anelectronic report with
a full data "Bangladesh Countryside" card and shortpersonal cover letter
from Abu Tabib Md. Zia Hasan, Senior Engineer, Researchand Receiving
center in 54 days who encouraged further reports - "Your reception report
on our frequency obviously helps us to evaluate our performance and
thereby we can implement to find the way out to quality improvement".

Best part about a reply from Bangladesh is the outside of the envelope
covered with 21 postage stamps.

BELARUS   {not a log, yet, but in case you haven't heard}
11730, R. Belarus, is allegedly having its SW, MW and LW transmitters
closed down permanently at local midnight, at 2100 UT on March 31.
I never have any luck hearing this but will try one last time.
On Thursdays, 2000-2020 UT in Spanish, 2020- UT in English normally

BELARUS Just finished writing a report about the visit of a unique
object - the radio center "Pine" in the Mogilev region of Belarus.
Unfortunately, on the night of April 1, the transmitters 279 kHz
(Belarusian Radio) and 1170 kHz (Radio Belarus) must be stopped.

Me and my colleague on hobbies, journalist Dmitry Suslov was able to agree
on a tour on the radio center before closing it, which was done on the
last Sunday, March 27, 2016.

I bring to your attention a report in two parts on my blog. If photos are
not loaded - check to see if you have blocked access to the domain and its
subdomains vk.com. Physically, all pictures are on these servers must be
loaded, even for those who do not have a profile on the site. Contact me
if you have problems.

Of course, the last off the long and medium wave radio center in Belarus -
this sad event. Note worthy is his report, which I hope will be many
interesting from the point of view of the history of radio.

BELARUS Reaction to closure of Belarus: I read with sadness that Belarus
will close its transmitters. The truth is that Belarussian transmitters
are not in a good technical health.

The 279 kHz transmitter's audio is undermodulated compared to its carrier
and the other transmitters aren't better too. Unfortunatelly the economic
state of Belarus doesn't allow them either to repair or replace these
aging transmitters.

In the years of 1990s and 2000s they were loud and clear in Hungary, even
MW 1170 kHz transmitter were heard conveniently in an armchair. Their
English language programmes were structured to raise attention of youth
people like I was at that time. At the peak their English programme lasted
for 2 hours. Then all disappeared and I cannot hear that powerful
mediumwave transmitter anymore. I wish Belarus would reverse its decision
of the closure.

BELARUS/TURKMENISTAN Re: Belarus to stop SW, MW and LW 279 kHz
broadcasts on 1st April.

Checking the Twente receiver around 2130 UT on April 1:
I'm not hearing Belarus on LW 279 kHz, but do hear an extremely faint CW
beacon, which sounds like "ND" occasionally rising above the noise floor.
Used to be able to hear Belarus reliably at a fair level.

Turkmenistan would be the only remaining broadcaster on the frequency, and
there are a few times when what sounds like very, very, very faint music
fades up on the frequency, but far to weak to tell if it is really Asgabat
or my imagination.

Updating before I hit the send button: I think there is something actually
there, now hearing a voice rising above the noise floor in what sounds
like a southwest Asian language, but still extremely weak. This followed
some music. Will have to check later as night deepens in that part of the
world.
(Stephen Luce-TX-USA, dxld April 1)

Music definitely heard on 279 kHz via the Twente receiver on April 2 at
0053 UT, sounding almost like a Mideastish version of a bagpipe moderate
fade at 0055 UT; signal back up with minor-key flute & strings selection
at 0057 UT; strings sounded like Persian-style instrument. Femme talking
at 0059 UT in unknown language, sounded like the end of a program, tailing
off with more music in fairly weak signal. Time pips heard at 0100 UT,
through again-fading signal; obviously no station ID was comprehended, but
that doesn't mean it wasn't there. No beacon/CW QRM noted. Signal back up
some by 0103 UT, with female doing news or some kind of narrative in
unknown language.

Offhand, I'd say we're getting here what we can out of Turkmenistan.
(Greg Hardison, dxld April 2)

re 279 kHz Asghabat TKM, surprisingly heard with tremendous signal around
17 UT / 7 p.m. Spain local time, some decade ago, during May whitesun
holiday tour at north-eastern Mallorca Island beach resort in Spain.

CHINA/MYANMAR 7200 CNR1 jamming. With the new A-16 schedule, they are
now signing off at 1300* (ex: 1400*) UT, just after their time pips (RTI
signs off just before 1300 UT). This makes it possible to now check after
1300 UT for Myanmar Radio on 7200.09 kHz. {Burma heard lately on odd
7200.104 kHz, wb.}

FRANCE [from TAIWAN] 15375? Radio TAIWAN International,
at 1800-1900 UT Suns only, French service, 300 kW 190degr from
Issoudun F TDF.
{no further details given, could be a Sunday only DRM outlet
with decreased 500kW power to 300 kW of RTI French service?  wb.}

No -- , thanks to Christian's recent explanation:

15375 R Taiwan International, via Issoudun, from Sunday March 27 at
1800-1900 UT there will be a "weekly broadcast" in French to Africa.
But the programme is the Saturday one !!!
(Christian Ghibaudo-F, dswci DXW March 30)

FRANCE 15375 Radio Taiwan International "weekly broadcast" in French on
Sundays only at 18-19 UT via TDF Issoudun relay site, on reduced 300 kW
but in 190degr azimuth towards West Africa / all Africa.

Noted in southern Europe like at remote SDR stations in Madrid Spain, in
Calabria southern Italy, and Zakynthos island in Greece, at S=9+10dB
signal level, which end the nearby skip zone some 600 kms around Issoudun,
but will be on full receive power in Africa target, I guess.

MADAGASCAR 9480 African Pathways Radio on 30 March from 0359 UT tune
with armchair-quality signal into Fallbrook. The carrier first appeared at
about 0359:15 and at 0400 UT I heard trumpets playing an opening tune
followed by a man announcer with "Welcome to African Pathways Radio" and
an introduction of the co-hosts including Henry Huffard. Opening
announcements went on with the broadcast's program schedule. Then a song
was played from Guinea until 0407 UT. Then I heard another song on a
marimba introducing a new program "Pathway to Happy Homes" about marriage
opened by an African man and woman.

The program was narrated by another American couple. An e-mail address was
given as <Amifradio -at- gmail.com>

The program was closed by 0412 UT by the African man and woman who opened
the show. Then I heard John Reed, President of World Bible School talking
about Bible courses. At 0415.5 UT another program started "Immersed in
Life", narrated by a man and talking about children until 0424 UT. This
was followed by a very lively African vocal to 0429 UT and then a program
"This Day in History" narrated by a man. SINPO 55555.

MADAGASCAR 9480 QSL African Pathways Radio / Madagascar Radio World
Voice, via Mahajanga (presumed), Madagascar. E-mail letter in 4 days,
for a report to
<info -at- worldchristian.org>
from Henry Huffard, Host, who says my QSL is on its way.

I heard five different broadcasts on March 27, the station's first day of
broadcasting, with surprisingly strong signals. Signal strength was
excellent during four of the broadcasts and fair for the fifth.

But I can no longer hear this station, and Mr. Huffard explains why:

"Unfortunately, in our fifth day of operations, a defective part shut us
down - so you will not be able to receive us now. Everything at the
station is new and under warranty, so it is just a matter of getting the
part to Madagascar and having it installed. We will let you know when we
resume operations."

9600 Madagascar World Voice was observed signing-on at 0000 UT
on 31 March, as follows:

"From the beautiful region of the Indian Ocean, this is Your New Life
Station [I take that capitalisation from references on the KNLS website
"What's Going On?" page] This transmission starts in one minute".

After promised minute of the 'Chariots of Fire' IS (as used by KNLS) came
their signature tune and introductory announcement:

"From the top of the world and from the beautiful region of the Indian
Ocean, this is Your New Life Station, broadcasting over the air and
online".

It seems that World Christian Broadcasting's new station identification
varies according to language and target area - I've only observed the
1800 UT transmission in Russian IDing on air as "MWV"
and "Madagascar World Voice".

The 1800 UT broadcast in English to Africa (17640 kHz) IDs as "African
Pathways Radio" whereas the 0000 UT English to India is "Your New Life
Station". It'll be interesting to know how the Arabic, Chinese and Spanish
broadcasts identify.

Later today I'll be uploading examples of these various IDs to Interval
Signals Online.

On 27 March around 1940 UT while briefly checking their Arabic broadcast
on 11945 kHz I heard them giving ID something like "Radio Feda" or "Radio
Veda" or similar. Unfortunately I didn't record at that time. Maybe just a
program name.

Btw, are they producing all programs by themselves or is there also some
brokered stuff?

{later} Well, I sent an inquiry to MWV about their Arabic ID. It is Radio
Feda, meaning of Arabic word feda is redemption.

The reply came from Tony, <contact -at- radiofeda.com>

MYANMAR Believe "5980" kHz must be a typo (a mistake!).

Think it should be "5985" kHz, as it has always been. Recently still heard
the NHK show "Friends Around The World" on Thursday and Friday on 5985
kHz, in English around 1535 UT. Also on 5985 kHz, I only once heard a NHK
radio drama presented in Burmese. But always on 5985 kHz.

I would be surprised if Myanmar Radio suddenly moved to 5980 kHz, but will
keep an eye out for them this week and see if I note anything different.

Re: NHK via Myanmar on 5985 kHz.

Hi Wolfy, "5980" is definitely wrong.
That is in error, should be *5985 kHz*.

Confirmed this on March 30 (Wed), when I heard Myanmar Radio, as usual, on
5985 kHz.; 1445-1500 UT with NHK program in Burmese language; intro with
several mentions of "NHK" and "Konnichiwa"; seemed to be a radio drama;
closing announcement with "1508001 NHK ... Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, Japan" and
several "NHK Radio Japan"; fair-good. Nothing at all heard on 5980 kHz.

My audio of closing announcement at <https://goo.gl/a5t3Dl>
Thanks again for bringing this to my attention.
(Ron Howard-CA-USA, wwdxc BC-DX TopNews March 30)

Yes Ron, thanks, all appreciated, and also confirmed here on this side,
"5980" print-ou in NHK pdf.format leaflet is definitely wrong. That is in
error, should be real *5985 kHz*.

Monitored locally via remotedly monitoring on Uwe Volk's SDR Perseus unit

The Perseus SDR unit in Eastern Thailand is located some 790 kilometers

At 1500 UT I checked also both Myanma Radio relay on MWs,
some 790 kilometers distance away.

Same programs heard in // on 5984.9975, and
576.000 kHz S=9+45dB or -34dBm POWERHOUSE from Yangon Yaegu site,
clear channel, no QRM at all at this 1445-1500 UT hour.

... and also bad mixture of five different stations, five signal strings
visible on 594v kHz, like Myanma Radio Nay Pyi Taw, the northern capital
on exact 593.995 kHz, power measured as S=9+30dB or -45dBm.

Latter 594v kHz, I'll check accurate fq again tomorrow on daylight,
when Nay Pyi Taw is alone on the channel swing...

There is a 1.5 second time delay on 576 kHz outlet, compared to 594v. So,
- the Myanma Radio local domestic program originate real from new capital
Nay Pyi Taw.

PAKISTAN Radio Pakistan probably off short wave, but on newly developed
beta internet site.

Although <http://www.radio.gov.pk/externalservice>
lists a nominal summer schedule for 2016, Radio Pakistan seems to have
left short wave. Searching for web audio streams you do find FM 101, but
not the World Service.

There is however a beta-site <http://beta.radio.gov.pk/pbc-stations>
being tested. This site includes a radio player of ten streams. While some
streams remained silent when checked, clicking on World Service produced a
programme stream which was not in // with any of the other active streams.

PAPUA NEW GUINEA 3260 NBC Madang, at 1131-1200* and *1204-1215* UT on
April 3 (Sunday). In Tok Pisin/Pidgin with what seemed like religious
program (religious songs?); ID 1159 UT; audio ended 1200* UT and then just
dead air (open carrier). Was disappointed, as was hoping to hear a certain
Sunday show. Fortunately I did not tune away, as at *1204 UT the audio
came back on with Stacy Rose's distinctive voice with the intro to her
"Island Praise" syndicated (Florida, USA) Sunday show of pop Caribbean
gospel music (reggae, soca, calypso, hip hop gospel, etc.) till suddenly
off at 1215* UT. Very pleased to hear her unique show again!

BTW - Did not hear // NBC Bougainville (3325 kHz) at 1204 UT, as they were
not on the air then; they usually cut off their broadcast just before
1200 UT (April 2 closed down at 1157* UT).

7324.95  Wantok Radio Light, at 0900 UT on April 1. NBC news in English;
// NBC Bougainville (3325 kHz). Later at 0931 kHz with promotional spot
for "Ninety-Nine Ltd., is a company that introduces natural health
products to keep the family healthy and strong. We also give free health
education nation wide," which is the sponsor of "Focus On The Family"
program that followed; CRI transmitter turned on at 0953 UT (not the usual
0957 UT).

*So have all the CRI transmissions been re-programmed * *with this
new xx53 time, instead of xx57?*.

ROMANIA 11870 Both at same time, AM and DRM mode clash from RadioCom
Tiganesti bcast site in Romania in A-16 season at 2030-2100 UT.

11870, April 1 at 2052 UT, today I check the 2030 UT English broadcast,
and amid the DRM noise from 11865 to 11875 kHz I do detect an AM carrier
on 11870 kHz and trace of modulation; as RRI is QRMing itself from its two
sites, one in DRM and one in AM both toward western Europe and North
America!

Fortunately, // 13650-AM kHz is clear at S8-S9, caught at sign-off
2055 UT, goodbye. I would like to hear a frequency announcement about the
2030 UT and whether the announcer does a double-take at 11870,
and 11870 kHz.
(Glenn Hauser-OK-USA, dxld April 2)

Re RRI Tiganesti clash 11870 AM a n d co-channel DRM mode.
Hi Glenn, complaint already to RRI Bucharest by their e-mail website four
weeks ago, but no answer reply from Romanian Radio organization reached me
yet.

One year ago in A-15 northern summer season, RRI Bucharest's English
service used the 15170 kHz channel in 19mb to NoAM target instead, --

like Spanish section does in present A-16 season at 21-22 UT again.

I guess RadioCom TX provider is a totally different public organization ?
(wb, wwdxc BC-DX TopNews April 2)

And re Romania co-channel clash 11870 kHz both -,
I can recall making a remark about their Frequency Manager that Drita
"broadcast" worldwide, and it seems they have made a very big error again
on 11870 kHz. I'm still convinced that some Frequency Manager's think
their signals will only go as far as the Ciraf Zone they select.

TURKMENISTAN Ashgabat on LW 279 kHz on 2 April hrd from Perseus site in
Ea. Finland from 2339 UT tune. Weak modulation at SINPO 35443 but
otherwise clear signal. Increasing noise lvl after 0015 UT. Recognized
program format and language from previous shortwave logs in 2005 on 4930
kHz and 5015 kHz and visit to Ashgabat in Oct 2006. Woman annmt in Turkmen
with occasional music in background to 0000 UT.

Program of inst music on a solo stringed instrument at 0000 UT w/ man
ancr. At 0033 UT after a man ancr, the music switched to more elaborate
instrumentals with multiple instruments and akin to Turkish folk music.
The same man ancr was hrd in this segment that went to 0059 UT. A woman
ancr was hrd at 0059 UT and some inst music to 0100 UT fol by 5 time pips,
a man ancr and the Turkmenistan National anthem by a choir to 0102.5 UT.
Man and woman ancrs w/ dramatic tone and martial music mixed - many
mentions of "Turmenbashy" and "Ashgabat" to tune out at 0109 UT.

This segment used to be hrd on 5015 kHz shortwave in this time frame.
Stringed instrument sound was most likely the "Dutar", the most popular
stringed instrument in Turkmenistan and similar to the Kazakh "Dombra"
which I heard many times in trips to Kazakhstan in the mid-2000's. These
are 2-3 string instruments with long narrow necks and in somewhat
different form factors and names, popular throughout Central Asia.

TURKMENISTAN/BELARUS After the closure of the Belarus station on LW 279
kHz. I hear Turkmenistan on the same frequency. Here in Romania the signal

The modulation is rather low. I'm expecting the signal to improve a lot in
the evening.

6135v odd fq BBC Woofferton, - to blame Marconi B6124 units.

Kind answer by former Babcock WOF engineer Dave g4oyx,
and now on retirement, with helpful friendly reply explanation:

" Hi Wolfie, - Thanks for all ...

Regarding last week and WOF the reason that 6135 kHz was off freq was,
that a Marconi B6124 was carrying the service as the normal RIZ sender was
being maintained. The Marconi B6124 sometime do lose their freq lock from
the 1 MHz standard.

RIZ Zagreb senders are locked to GPS.

Thanks again,
73 Dave (March 30)

USA 5050 on April 3 at 0126 UT, WWRB has reactivated this frequency,
very good, found after checking 90m, 3185 kHz with BS, 3195 kHz not on.
Presumably a summer-thing, and registered available 2200-1300 UT,
100 kW at 45 degrees.

(US SW stations are supposed to pay a fee to FCC for hours reserved,
whether used or not? But I hear that a lot of them are in arrears,
FCC not enforcing that like so many other rules.)

And it's a hard rant from Dave F-RANTz! Oh boy, in fine form tonight:

He's full of disgust, extreme mocking sarcasm, expletives against
preachers!

Summarizing: He has 5 x 100 kW transmitters, mostly idle, as Christians
are fighting over doctrine. If he has one sect on, others object and won't
go on. "All I've heard for 20 years, Christians making excuses" for not
purchasing airtime.

Also complains of preachers requesting free private charter jet transport
for ailing parishioners to medical facilities. (His main business is air
transport. This is safer than mass transport subjecting victims to who-
knows-what from other passengers). He used to do this and covered the
cost, but no more!

Because all the preachers will do in return "when we need help" is *pray*,
nothing tangible, no reciprocity, just lip-service. Lately he decided to
pray real hard, raising his hands higher and higher, asking God for his
fuel tanks to be filled with 400 gallons of Jet-A, in order to comply with
the latest request, still willing to cover remaining expenses. "Prayer
doesn't work!" No increase in fuel levels per the dipstix. "This is why
Christianity is dying," he asserts at 0148 and later.

"WWRB is no longer a religious radio station. It's commercial, for
profit", no more subsidizing by his aviation business. Now in negotiations
with "an Islamic group who want six hours of airtime in English because
they feel their religion is being maligned", and is seriously considering
it.

If any of his remaining Christian clients heard this, they may not stay
around much longer but unlikely any of them axually listen to SW WWRB,
especially on a frequency which just came back. He's still ranting past
0200

         on S=8 or -78dBm strength.

Latter as usual carried the faulty accompanied 197 Hertz spur
BUZZ signals outlet, visible on screen like a garden fence,
13 x spur strings each 197 Hz distance apart each other
visible (and buzz heard) either sideband.

9180.172 TWN SOH Chinese noted at 2240 on March 30, S=6 or -94dBm.
9200.162 TWN SOH Chinese also here at weaker S=4 or -102dBm.

The "DOMESTIC BROADCASTING SURVEY 18 (DBS-18)"  of April 2016;

edited by DSWCI Chairman, Anker Petersen. ISSN 1399-8218

The 59 years old DSWCI, which counts experienced DX-ers in 33 countries
all over the world as members, will in April issue the 18th edition
of its annual
"Domestic Broadcasting Survey". This survey is divided into three parts:

Part 1: The 44th edition of the Tropical Bands Survey covering
all ACTIVE broadcasting stations on 2300 - 5700 kHz, including
clandestines.

Part 2: Domestic stations on international shortwave bands
above 5700 kHz broadcasting to a domestic audience.

Part 3: Deleted frequencies between 2 and 30 MHz which have not been
reported heard during the past five years, but may reappear.

This new Survey is based upon monitoring by our members, many official
sources and DX-bulletins. A-16 schedules are included when available.

About 65 domestic shortwave stations frequencies have left the bands.

In order to make the DBS reliable, our own monitors around the world
have checked throughout the period April 2015 - March 2016,
if each of the 500 station frequencies is on the air.

ACTIVE stations are marked with an A ("Regular"), B ("Irregular") or
C ("Sporadic") in the list. D means "Likely inactive".

A unique feature is the right column called "Last log".

It shows the last month and year before DBS deadline on March 31, 2016
when the particular station was reported logged by a DX-er somewhere
in the world. This is another way of indicating the current audibility
of the station.

To avoid inactive stations in this DBS, most frequencies which have
not been heard during the past year, have been deleted -
and are moved to Part 3. No other frequency list has this feature!

Other useful features for easy identification (ID) are the
// frequencies and reference to Station ID slogans.

Four sample extracts from the DBS-18 are shown on the next page.
Reviews can be found on <http://www.dswci.org>

All buyers of DBS-18 will get a username and password to the monthly
updates on the tropical bands published as

"Tropical Bands Monitor"

on our website. The similar, historical data from 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008,
2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015 are available to anybody at
<http://www.dswci.org/tbm>

The 18 pages A-4 size DBS-18 is available by e-mail as pdf-format file
(about 350kB).

A limited number is also available printed on paper for the last time,
because the DSWCI is dissolved at the end of 2016!

Both are sold by the treasurer until December 01, 2016:
